While I'm sure they are both happy to do lewd things, since the wizard is already there and is available to check some stuff out, checking on her crazy since Ranma knows about it really seems like the more pressing thing.

Time to go back for another year of school. It started with a battery of tests, of homework assignments and other assorted things, so I could concentrate on the more magical side of my education. It was grueling and miserable, but I knew it would be worth it.

"So what's wrong with Kuno?"

Sensei blinked.

"Dissociative disorder, mild lead poisoning, bipolar, a host of alchemical and chemical ingrediants in his system, a few mild curses, and a total nervous breakdown that happened long before I got here...."

Sensei shrugged.

"He's basically a empty shell not even I can fix him now, he's literally too far gone."

"Lead poisioning?"

"The Kuno estate has some very old pipes that were never replaced and gets there water from a private well that has....issues. The place needs some serious work, if you go there never drink the water."

I nodded.

"So his sister?"

"Never met her."

"Could you save her?"

"I'm not a psychologist, it might be possible, but that family has a whole bunch of issues, you're not going to fix them with some drugs and some talk therapy, we're talking about years upon years of work. This is going to be a serious investment in time. You willing to put in that kind of effort?"

"Ranma likes her?"

"Unless Ranma's willing to put a ring on her finger, it's not worth the time and effort."

I stared at him.

"Why are you so fast to give up on people?"

Sensei froze.

"I have been around for a very long time, and have had quite a few students. Some people can be saved, it would take a whole lot of work but they can be saved. Had two students like that, one was an obnoxious little shit. A rich racist asshole, it took ten years of hard work to get him to be remotely good."

He paused.

"The other one was an orphan, proud and egotistical, came very close to sliding down the darkside. It took some effort to get him into a better head space, but some couldn't be saved. One student? I thought I could get her off the path of the darkside. Make her a better person, in the end I had to put her down."

He leaned against the wall.

"So you took away."

"I killed her, she was about to murder thousands of innocent people, so I killed her. Some people can't be saved...I don't know what category Kodachi's in, but Kuno? I can't save him, and any effort to fix him might create a monster."

"It's Kuno?"

"Right now Kuno's an idiot, I fix the led poisoning? He gets smarter and that lets him realize just how much leverage he has. Kid's the richest person in Nerima, he has contacts, if he leveraged them? Well Akane wouldn't have a choice in the whole dating thing."

"He wouldn't."

"Kuno is crazy, forcing a girl to sleep with him or her dad gets kicked out of his own home? He could easily justify that in his twisted mind to make himself the good guy. Right now, he just handles physical attacks on his own. You can advoid him, defeat him fight back, but if he leveraged what he had?"

"He would be dangerous?"

"Kid, he would own Nerima."

"Can you at least take a look at Kodachi?"

Sensei sighed.

"Fine, I will take a look but if she's too far gone just accept it ok?"

I nodded it was as good a deal as I was going to get.

Well that's interesting, not the take I was expecting..

For apprentices I think I got Malfoy, possibly Gutz, and I am not sure who the woman was.

First one's most likely Malfoy, agreed. Actually, I'm betting the second one was Uchiha Sasuke. Anakin wasn't particularly egotistical or an orphan until later in life. As for the woman, definite Star Wars vibe there. Ventress, perhaps?

Kodachi stepped into the circle and Sensei frowned.

"Ohh ho ho ho UGH!"

She fell down, like a puppet with her strings cut, Sensei hummed.

"Lead poisoning, expected but not at these concentrations. We also have some arsenic and other drugs in her system. Not as bad as her brother."

The circle glowed.

"The lead seems to be affecting the centers responsible for emotional control, explains the emotional outbursts and violent tendencies. Has dissociative disorder and bipolar disorder, aggrevated by the presence of lead. Some curses that affect mental stability, but that's more or less being successfully fought off by her soul."

The circle changed color and she screamed.

"Removing lead from her body."

"STOP HURTING HER!"

I restrained Ranma with water.

"You want her to get better?"

Ranma struggled.

"Lead removed, regenerating old brain matter, brain damage is minor, may need to relearn some minor motor skills."

Ranma continued to struggle as Kodachi screamed.

"Removing curses, it won't get rid of the genetic or psychological issues, but should make them less extreme."

She was crying in pain as her skin bubbled, and then returned to normal.

"Mental functionality up 20%, Mental stability up 50%, going for a mental intregation now."

She screamed as her body spasmed on the ground, it was incoherent and blubbering and then stopped.

"Subjects bipolar disorder remains, mental stability at 75% with a medication regiment this should go up to 85%. Should be at normal stability levels with therapy."

"You monster."

Ranma was struggling and I didn't know if I could stop him much longer.

"Ranma?"

The voice sounded broken, tired.

"KODACHI!"

"The fog.... it's gone.... it's gone!"

She was crying, Sensei wrote some stuff down.

"She can't return home not until those pipes are replaced, this has the name of a psychologist, a good one."

Ramna broke free and grabbed the paper.

"I've already used my contacts in the japanese government, Kodachi's therapy is paid for."

He frowned.

"So where will she stay?"

"With Ranma.... if possible."

Kodachi looked shy and tired, Ranma nodded and put her in a bridal carry.

"Yeah...we're going home."

He walked away with her in his arms and I watched them go.

"So it's over?"

"Her medication will have side effects."

He stared at me.

"This is a lifetime committment Hikaru, you already have the knowhow needed to remove said side effects, so they will come to you. I'm not going to be here forever, I have a time limit."

"I understand."

He sighed.

"No, no you don't, the sheer enormity of the situation is completely outside your frame of reference. Not only are you going to be sucked into Ranma's dram-."

"He's my friend."

"He's still got plenty, but you're going to be sucked into the Kuno's drama, and kid, that family is fucked up 6 ways from sunday."

I leaned against the wall.

"I need to make up for Nabiki."

Sensei looked up.

"Nabiki made her own bed, and dug her own grave."

"But the Tendos?"

"Are a sinking ship."

He sighed.

"Soun's probally going to kill himself, right now Genma's trying to prevent that, but he's an innately selfish person. Sooner or later, Genma is going to give up and walk away and then Soun dies. Akane's working on her issues, but she doesn't have any useful skills, and she basically pissed on anything goes in order to learn Kempo."

"And?"

"She isn't nearly good enough at Kempo to run a functional dojo, she doesn't have the kind of skills necessary to make a decent living in the outside world, and she doesn't have the grades necessary to get a scholarship into college."

"She's, um got a lot of guys after her?"

Sensei sighed.

"Do you honestly think that Akane Tendo sincerly wants or is even capable of being a good housewife?"

"Can't you help her?"

Sensei frowned.

"I am not captain save-a-hoe."

I blinked.

"But you helped Kasumi, you helped Kodachi, you helped me."

He tapped me on the forehead.

"What do all those people have in common?"

I shrugged.

"Kasumi wanted her life to change, she already liked Tofu but expected him to make the first move, Tofu was madly in love with Kasumi but didn't want to make a move unless Kasumi liked him. All I had to do was give her a slight push and she took care of everything on her own."

He took in a deep breath.

"Kodachi's in a bad place, but kid I looked into her soul and she wants to change, she wants to get better. She's going to take her medication religiously and go to every session. She's doing this for herself. Not to impress Ranma, not for sympathy for herself."

He got up and started cleaning the circle way.

"As for you, let's be honest, you wanted actual magic and were willing to do anything to escape the hell your life became, and you know what you're doing a whole lot better now."

The circle was gone.

"I don't help people who are not willing to help themselves, it's a waste of my time. If Akane wants my help then she's going to have to ask for it, and she's going to have to want it. If she doesn't then she can deal with her own issues."

"But don't I-"

"You don't owe her anything...don't owe the Tendo's anything, and honestly that family isn't going to get any better until they hit rock bottom."

"I don't help people who are not willing to help themselves, it's a waste of my time. If Akane wants my help then she's going to have to ask for it, and she's going to have to want it. If she doesn't then she can deal with her own issues."
This sums up my opinion on this sort of issue really well. There are a ton of issues that a person can have that aren't their fault (as in, something they inherited or something that happened to them due to someone else's actions), but nobody is owed help simply on the basis of "they can't help it!".

Still voting for Akane.

And just to point it out she started going to therapy on her own, which is a more direct action the Kodachi took which was bang Ranma and get magical help handed to her.

Mcguffin seems to have a irrational dislike of Akane.

Huh

So, this is clearly not canon, which means that canon exists, if canon exists then maybe other Ranma-verse variants exist.

What if he hit a "darker" version before now, and the failed apprentice was a version of Akane?

I can see other reasons why he doesn't like Akane. First, there's the way she was shitty to Kasumi and Ranma, both of whom I think MacGuffin has a soft spot for. Then, there's the whole obsession Hikaru had with her. Even through no fault of her own, she really posed a real risk to his current student. Plus, there's a pretty decent chance that MacGuffin's worried about Hikaru backsliding when he shows interest in her. After all, Hikaru really does have no real business with her, and we have heard that MacGuffin's had some real failures.

My bet for where the person he was tutoring went dark in was RWBY. It works on the right scale for going dark to involve murdering thousands of innocents, it has a decent selection of people who were on a dark path, and we know he was there for sure.

I knocked on the door and was greeted by Kodachi. Her hair was different, more traditonal and less. well poofy. She still had a ponytail, but it was more of a normal one. She looked tired, but somewhat happy and satisfied.

"Hey, um Ru."

I was welcomed into the apartment.

"So how's it going?"

"The therapy or the drugs?"

"Both."

She shrugged.

"It's a lot of hard work, I'm told it's going to take awhile for the lithium to kick in, but even with that my head's been clearer then it's been for awhile now. Therapy is going well, I have a lot of issues."

"Yeah,with Kuno."

"Are you talking about my father or my brother, because if it's dad, shit talk away but if your taking about my brother then you're not aloud to badmouth him in our apartment."

I blinked.

"You know Kuno attacks me every day, right?"

She sighed.

"I know but he's very sick, I was very sick too, I'm still very sick but it's more complicated then that. Tea?"

She let me in and I took a seat.

"Ranma's watching TV, please don't interupt his shows."

"Ok, but I'm kind of curious now."

She sat down.

"About my family?"

"Yeah."

She looked sad.

"Mom...was a gold digger, she married dad for the money, had a few kids and left as soon as she was legally allowed to get alimony. She left when I was very young."

"What happened to her?"

"Cocaine overdose, she was a party girl and she partied till she died."

"Oh, and your father."

"Mr. Kuno was just as bad, once I was six he left for Hawaii and left my brother to oversee all of his duties, business, family, cultural, he had to deal with it all, and my brother did do it all. He was a loving, kind brother who was never mean to me, who looked after me and then one day he couldn't take it anymore and he broke."

The tea whistled and she got up, she poured three cups and took one into a room that glowed with life.

"Thanks Kodachi!"

She came out and put the other two cups on our table, she looked depressed.

"My brother is gone now, gone forever, into whatever fog of madness that he's now in, and that hurts because I still remember the kind responsible brother who was there for me in my worst moments. Who held me until I stopped crying when mom left, who was there for me when dad left. Who used to tuck me in and tell me a story every night."

She paused.

"I want him back more then anything, so please in rememberance of that kind little boy, please don't insult him in this house."

I nodded and stared off into space sipping tea.

"I hope you get better soon."

"I thank you for your kindness Ru, but I won't. This is something I will have to struggle with my entire life, it's not going to just get better one day, it doesn't work like that."

"So you and Ranma?"

She smiled.

"I love him, he's...he's my rock you know? I don't know if I could do this alone. Sometimes he says things that annoy me, but he means well....and oh god he is just amazing in the sa-"

"Don't want to know."

She chuckled.

"Sorry."

I looked at my watch.

"Going somewhere?"

"I was going to meet up with Ukyo after closing."

"Go there now."

"But we're talking."

"We can talk some other time, trust me as a woman being late for something because you had to talk to your best friends girlfriend? Well it's a lousy excuse."

I downed my tea and got up.

"I'm glad you're doing better."

"Thank you, Ru."

Mcguffin has just finished with dealing with over 4 years of his apprintice obessing over Akane he just wants to close the books on that whole sad fisaco.

Keep in mind for him this is a firm case of 'not this crap again.'

I sat on my cloud overlooking the school, it was peaceful up here, Ranma sat next to me eating lunch.

"You know, this is pretty good stuff, I don't know why you stick to burgers man?"

I dabbed my tattertots in some ketchup.

"I just prefer western food."

Ranma nodded.

"Yeah I get it."

"FOUL SORCERER!"

I sighed.

"Should you deal with it or me, Ranma?"

"YOU WILL DIE!"

"Eh, Kodachi kind of wants me to stop hitting him, you know?"

"YOU HAVE DEFILED MY SISTER."

Ranma smirked.

"Every night."

"Too much information, also I handled Kuno last time."

We ignored his ranting and raving, just eating our lunch.

"KUNO, DID YOU HONESTLY THINK WE WOULDN'T FIND OUT!"

I blinked, the japanese was terrible, almost like a philippine accent, two voicies in unison, both women, one had a pair of sticks the other had a butterfly knife. Ranma cringed.

"Isn't the Philippines an ocean away?"

I shrugged.

"It is."

"Then why?"

We watched the beating commense and Kuno flee for his life.

"Sensei told me that you should never, ever cheat on a filipina girl."

I blinked as a voice inturupted.

"That goes the same for men too."

We turned around as Hiro Sensei watched the carnage from a nearby rooftop.

"I love my man, Carlos is a sweet kind man, and he's so good with Satchi but he's got a jealous streak and I know better then to ever stray from him."

We watched the beating, Ranma cringed.

"Should we, you know step in?"

I looked at Hiro Sensei and he sighed.

"No...not even the gods can save Kuno now, he's just going to have to accept his beating. Gosenkugi-san, I expect you to fix him up once they're finished with him."

"But he's Kuno?"

Hiro shrugged.

"You're a mage, we expect you to do your duty even if it's unpleasent."

We watched Kuno scream as he continued to run for his life.

I don't suppose you could write omake showing how Ru and Ranma hooking up would have gone? I'm genuinely curious what that'd have been like.
