If you want peace, then you must prepare for war.

They could feel the cold touch of the rain as it landed on them, each drop of water felt like a tiny needle that cut into them.

The red unnatural sky was still visible despite the thick black storm clouds that didn't show any signs that they would be leaving anytime soon.

The messengers had returned hours ago and it was only now that the realization of what they had done began to set in, but what else could they do when things had become so desperate?

The rain was becoming stronger now and everything in front of them was consumed by the darkness of the storm, but that didn't stop the men and women of the village from burning their homes.

No one said anything, not even the older animals dared to make a sound.

the only ones that bothered to make any noise, were the infants that cried because they felt the cold rain covering their tiny bodies.

It was odd knowing that in this moment of pain, they all felt the same, empty hole in their chests, some cried quietly, and their tears were nothing more than another drop of rain amongst the many that landed on their faces.

They could see the light of tourists coming closer, and without knowing when they all either held hands or tightened their grips on the ropes that kept the animals from running away.

The sound of the armored boots followed and despite the well-trained nature of the army's footsteps, they could still hear them coming closer.

The next thing that they heard was the rain hitting the armor of the soldiers, the silence seemed to stretch for hours despite it only being a few minutes, and yet the silence felt as if it could swallow them.

None of them had the chance to say anything, as the knight that had separated himself from the rest of the army signaled to them that it was time and they did as they were told.

None of them said anything when the knights picked up one of the chickens or fully grown chickens that couldn't keep up with the group.

It wasn't that they didn't want to thank their new masters for their kindness, but they didn't know if it was safe for them to do so.

They reached the hill that separated their homes from the forestand while most didn't dare to look back, those that were either too young or too foolish did so and they saw dozens of villages burning one after another.

The yellow orange and red lights of the fires made it possible for them to see the shadows of the people and animals heading in their direction, all of them were just as quiet as they were.

They had reached the edge of the forest now and while they hesitated to step into it, they didn't have any other choice they had to follow their new masters to where they would live.

They could hear the cats, dogs, horses, and all of the other animals whimpering as something walked amongst the trees, but none of them dared to run away, and those who tried quickly stopped.

Something was watching them, but it hid itself when the next group of knights walked in as they guided their village into the forest.

They silently marched through the forest as things moved through the darkness, sometimes they would see a par or several pairs of red, purple, white, or yellow eyes staring at them.

Sometimes they were forced to stop and they watched as a group of knights walked into the forest before the sounds of battle followed.

It was the light of the storm that showed them what they weren't supposed to see and while they wanted to scream and cry in despair, none of them did.

They kept quiet despite seeing the group that separated itself come back, they should have cheered, they should have felt hope, but none of them did.

They finally reached a massive stone wall that should have never been in a forest, it was guarded by several creatures that could swallow a man in a single bite, and yet none of them reacted to their presence.

It was as if they were so beneath the creatures that they couldn't be bothered to care.

The massive stone gates opened and they walked in, now their suffering would begin.

Soon the knights will choose the men and women that they want before taking them and enjoying themselves.

Soon all of the men and boys will be put to work and either die from exhaustion or because they failed to notice that something was staring at them with hungry eyes.

They never expected to have a warm meal and drink nor did they expect to have a roof over their heads with a fire that helped them recover from the cold touch of the rain.

The gates were closed now and the knights separated all of the men and boys who weren't married or were orphans, no one said anything this was their fate.

it was morning now and the sound of the gates opening made them walk outside, and they nearly gasped at the sight of several knights covered in blood and organs, but the knights weren't alone.

There were dozens perhaps thousands of frightened men, women, and children alone with animals walking into the city.

'Kirito!" they heard the voice of a young woman say to one of the knights.

they watched as a thin, woman walked up to a knight who wore black armor, but what caught their attention was the child at her side.

"Daddy!" the girl happily said to the black armored man.

"How many more?" the woman asked the knight.

"That's all of them." the man named Kirito says to the woman.

"What do you mean, where should be?" the woman asks her husband, but the man's cold stare silences her.

'This is it, we circled everything. They are everything and everyone that isn't a monster.' Kirito says to his wife who lowers her shoulders when she hears his answer.

"What about the castle?" They hear her ask him and they can't help but shake their heads, the poor fool has the same hope that they did.

"They said that they can't help. They're in bad shape too and their city is as crowded as ours." Kirito answers his wife who hugs him despite the filth that covers him.

The gates finally close again, but this time the massive creatures that guarded the gate from the outside walk in before the door closes.

they can hear the creatures that tormented them for years man and roar outside, their voices are a mix between the voice of a man, the oar and moan of an animal, and something else something evil.

She cowered beneath the creature's gaze, its gleaming red eyes bearing into her very being as she tried to use her body to protect the children that she had brought to the forest.

She had come here hoping that the stories that she had heard, weren't just stories.

She had traveled through mud, rain, and even under the hot sun, but she did this so that the children had a chance to live.

The tiny feet of the children had forced her to walk slower than she would have normally done, but she happily lowered her speed. Because she knew that despite moving so slowly, the little ones were doing everything that they could to keep up with her.

She could feel the creature's hot breath and the sound of the creature breathing mixed with the whimpering of the children.

They would die here, she didn't know why the beast hadn't killed them yet, but she knew that she had killed them, by bringing them here.

"Hie." she heard the soft voice of a girl say to her before she felt something or someone tapped on her shoulder.

She instinctively tightened her grip on the children and lowered her head as much as she could, so she could cover them and protect them from what was about to happen.

"Gleeming did you do something to them?" the girl's voice asked someone.

"No." a powerful but soft voice answered the girl, before she felt something pick her up.

She would have screamed, but the terror of the situation had forced her to keep quiet, and even if she had screamed, her voice would have only made the screaming voices of the children sound louder.

"Hey, we're here." the girl's voice said to her as the feeling of weightlessness took over for a moment before she fell on what she soon realized was a stone floor.

She slowly raised her head and found a young woman, that had short blue hair staring at her, the girl had a pair of dark brown eyes that could have easily been mistaken for black if a person looked at them without enough light.

Yet what caught her attention was the girl's armor, it didn't have any of the insignias or markings that someone from a noble house should have.

She briefly wondered if she had already been eaten because the girl in front of her looked well-fed, and while she didn't have the hips or breasts needed for marriage just yet, the girl was getting there.

She swallowed and slowly let go of the little ones so that she could stand up and greet the person who had saved them.

Se felt the small hands of the boys when they grabbed her hand and felt the girl when they ran behind her to hide from the stranger.

She wanted to scold the children, this girl had somehow managed to save them and they were disrespecting her by acting this way.

"Forgive." she began to say, but the girl raised her right hand and silently told her to stay quiet.

The girl in front of her pointed at something and she turned to see what looked like a pair of massive stone doors that were guarded y several monstrous creatures.

Just behind the creatures, there was a massive wall that protected what looked like a city full of people, people that looked well-fed.

"Go" she heard the girl say to her.

She briefly turned and saw the massive creature staring at her, its Gleaming Eyes stared into her very being, but she couldn't feel any malice coming from it.

In front of the creature was the girl who had saved them and for whatever reason the creature didn't try to reach her, nor did it chase after her and the children.

It was as if the girl was acting like a guard that kept the beast away.

The sounds of dogs barking caught her attention and she was surprised to see, several large dogs running towards her.

This was surprising, not because the dogs were puppies whose playful nature made the children lose their fear, that was only natural.

What didn't seem real was the size of the dogs, they were already the size of a full-grown dog, despite having the voices of infant dogs who were still curious about the world around them.

She slowly walked closer to the gate, where the gold lion and massive hound stood at each side and she began to think that maybe, they had died and they were being judged.

It was possible that the city beyond the gate was heaven and they had just past the first trial, now came the second and third.

She silently prayed and if she was dead, she didn't know if it would help her and the little ones, but she did so anyway.

She felt the beast's eyes as she walked past them, she made sure that none of the little ones separated from her and she let out a breath when they finally made it past the doors.

Their small group looked at the city filled with people and as they looked at their new surroundings with curiosity, they realized that they didn't know what to do.

She looked down and smiled at the children who looked up at her, hoping that she still knew what to do. She smiled at them and hoped that they interpreted her gesture as an act of confidence.

"Miss this way please." a knight that wore an armor that was painted white said to her and without knowing what else to do she followed the man to a nearby building.

He stomach growled when she smelled the food that was being cooked inside. She pushed open the wooden door and found the knight was already sitting on a wooden chair.

"Please sit down." the man says to her before a woman places several wooden cups on the table and then fills them with milk.

"Go on, I'll drink." the woman says to the kids who turn to look at her. She nods and the children eagerly drink the milk.

"Tell me what happened and why are you here." the knight says to her.

She could feel her heart beating inside of her chest and she was afraid of saying the wrong thing, she struggled to open her mouth and say anything when the woman from before placed a cup of warm milk in front of her.

"Relax. None of you are in trouble, but we can't just let people come here without knowing who they are."

"So let's start with something simple."

"The kids, they don't resemble each other, and considering that their hair, skin, and eyes are all different colors, it's not hard for me to know that none of you are related."

"So what is your name?" he asks her.

She slowly takes the wooden cup and feels the warm wood in the palm of her hands, the milk inside it must have been hot, so she blows on it before she takes a drink.

"Samantha." she answered the guard who writes her name on a piece of parchment, with an oddly shaped feather.

"Did you kidnap the children or did their families ask you to take them?"

"No, we dont have famalies. Not anymore."

'They did for different reasons."

"Tell me why did you come here? What I mean is why would you risk your life, their lives, just to come here?"

She looks at the white color of the milk that is in her cup and takes a deep breath as the small line of steam rises from inside the cup.

The twin moons shined above the city and bathed the world with their strange colors, the white moon seemed to shrink away from the larger green moon, which seemed to be getting bigger with each passing night.

She blew into her hands as she tried to keep them warm, again there hadn't been any food, both the famine and the plague had destroyed the harvest.

And what little food was left had been taken by nobles who couldn't afford to go a day without food, but even their rations had been cut because they had to give some of their food to the soldiers who were still fighting the beast men.

She listened to the little ones coughing while they slept and while she was hesitant to do so, she still threw another piece of wood into the fire, there wasn't much wood left and soon they would run out.

Tomorrow she would head to the alley and join the other women and girls, she hated the thought of doing such a sacred thing with random people, but the kids needed food and if any of them were to live then they would need better clothes.

She couldn't help but frown when the sound of rain reached her, it had been in a night just like this one when the villages had burned their homes and gone to the forest kingdom.

She had called them traitors just like everyone else, the city was dependent on the crops that the villages grew, and now that those villages were gone the people in the city would starve.

Yet none of the nobles called any of the villagers traitors, nor did they declare war on the forest kingdom.

She soon found out why.

The beast men had destroyed the fields with their taint and poisoned the land so that nothing could grow, and if there was a chance that the fields would ever recover it would take years.

The church bell began to ring as it announced to everyone that another caravan had arrived.

This was the reason why the nobles hadn't declared war on the forest kingdom, in exchange for everything and everyone that was in those villages, the forest kingdom had to pay the nobles with goods.

She felt the pain of not having eaten anything for three and while she was tempted to join the crowds that gathered near the church and the cathedral.

The priests and nuns in those sacred places would give the villagers the scraps of food that they could give away, unfortunatly she knew that by the time she reached either building all of the food would be gone.

She lowered her head and decided to get some sleep, at least that way she could dream about living in a better house, one whose roof didn't leak when it rained and there was always food in the pantry.

She dreams about seeing the bright smiles and wide eyes of her brothers and sisters when she bathed them and dressed them.

A loud banging on the door forced her to wake up and she quickly covered the mouths of the children when they nearly shouted with fear.

"It's me open the door!" she heard the familiar voice of her friend.

"It's okay it's Mike." she said to the kids before she rose from the floor and walked towards the door.

The cold drops that fell from the ceiling along with the brief flashes of light told her that it had started to rain again.

"Mike." she said to her friend with the warmest voice that she could make, but she was shocked when she saw the mad look in the man's eyes.

"Here." Mike shoved a sack full of vegetables toward her before forcing himself into the house.

She watched as Mike loudly hit his back on the wall before he slid down and sat on the floor.

Mike didn't say anything, even when he took off his helmet and looked at her brothers and sisters.

She watched as the drops of water fell from his hair and mustache. She could tell that something had happened because Mike looked older, the wrinkles on his forehead had gotten deeper and the air around him felt troubled.

"Mike." she said to the man as she closed the door.

"I'm sorry, I had two more sacs full of clothes and odd." he said to her, but his voice was heavy and she could tell that he was struggling to say anything.

"Mike." she repeated.

"I had to come. I had to see all of you." he said between gasps.

"Children come here." Mike ordered the little ones who quickly did as they were told.

"In two days all of you will come with me, we are leaving the city and we will be going to the kingdom in the woods."

"Tell no one about this, but I swear on Sigmar's name that I will protect all of you." he said to them.

'Mike what's going on" she asked the man her voice now filled with fear.

"....They are planning on trading people from the slums for help. I don't know who and I don't dare to imagine what it is that they are speaking to, but I need to get you out of here before they can get to you."

"Two days, our only chance to escape will be in two days."

"Listen all of you, there will be a panic in the city or maybe just a loud noise, when you hear it run. Run out of the city and don't look back." Mike said to them.

"Why two days?" she asked him.

"Because in two days the city gates will be open in preparation for their arrival."

"Even as we speak all of the guards that have a conscious are either preparing for battle or getting ready to leave. So if I fall before I can reach you just follow the green, you'll understand when you see it." Mike said to them.

She watched as he removed his gold necklace and handed it to her.

"That should help you pay anyone to either give you a ride or help them forget that they ever saw you."

"I need to warn the others.' he said to them before she laced his hands on the floor and forced himself to stand up.

She watched as he walked out of the house and never looked back.

She would have cried or said to him that he should stay at least until the rain stopped, but she didn't and she still regretted it.

"So what happened to him?"

"He died." she answers the guards the image of her old friend briefly entered her mind, she can still remember the the light in his eyes fading as Deah took him.

The sound of the chair moving as the knight stood up caught her attention and dragged her back to the present, she could see the expression in the man's eyes change.

The man looked past her and he focused on the children that were with her.

"....I'll be blunt about this."

"You chose a difficult time to come here, the Players, the rulers of this kingdom." he takes a deep breath, which tells her just how heavy the situation is.

"You saw the creature outside, it stands next to the Black swordsman. It isn't the only one."

'I' telling you this because something is going to happen very soon, it has nothing to do with your arrival, but it will affect you." he says to her.

She doesn't say anything but she unconsciously holds her younger sister's hand before turning to look at the child.

"What do we have to do?" she asks the night.

"Get out of the way and let it happen. We are Humans, they are not, no matter how Human they look, they aren't one of us." he answers her.

Deep within Aincrad Radius gathered the souls of the dead, it looked through the world for anything that could benefit the players and her monsters.

She needed something that would help the Players survive the unseen threats of this world, but she couldn't just allow whatever she chose to manipulate the players and her creations.

So she dove deep into every soul's memory before letting them go to wherever they were meant to go.

It was then that she found something interesting, some souls could not escape this realm, as something had forced them to remain in the mortal realm.

The souls belonged to an ancient race one of those that always grew arrogant because it was blessed with all sorts of gifts.

She would have ignored them and gone back to her work had it not been for something that she found, these souls could use magic.

Not only that but they knew how the enemy manipulated both the souls and the minds of the mortal beings.

She could see the runic writings on the weapons of the beings that the elves once fought against.

Radius found what she was looking for, but she needed a way of stopping the elves from betraying the payers, so she did the only thing that she could.

She soul-boded them to the players, this was both a gift and a curse.

A gift that would ground the elves and keep their obsessive nature under control, now whenever an elf became obsessed over something the Player that it was connected to would dragge him or her out of it.

There would be conflict because of this but it was good for both of them.

The curse would come in the near and distant future.

On one hand, the elves would have to accept that they didn't control anything here and she would make sure of that.

On the other hand, they would have to get used to knowing that the Players that they were joined with would die before they ever would.

Radius began to create the bodies for the elves she took the memories of of how the elves saw themselves along with how others saw them to make their new forms.

She could have just recreated their old memories and be done with it, but that would leave the opportunity for the obsessive nature of the elves to completely take over.

This way they had a chance of controlling themselves even more than they did before.

In the center of Aincrad a bell ran ten times, the first sound it made sent shockwaves through the kingdom of the forest.

The second time it rang every player both young and old felt a cold sensation spread within them.

The third, fourth, and fifth times it rang, carved the smell- taste, and image of the elves into every monster's mind, forcing them to accept the elves as their equals.

The sixth, seventh, and eighth times granted the players all of the elves information, nothing was hidden to the players, as they could now see what the elves knew regardless of how hard the elves may have tried to hide it.

The ninth time forced every player and elf to accept each other as partners, it didn't matter if they hated one another in another situation, now they would accept one another.

The tenth and final time forced the elves, players, and monsters to put each other above the Humans, elves, dwarfs, and other beings of this world.

There was no arrogance or cruelty behind it, as this forced them to protect themselves and not carelessly throw their lives away for a bunch of people who would betray them if it meant saving themselves.
