[X] Purchase the title of a Border Princess (300 gc).

This is a must for any who abide by the rule if cool. This title is cool as hell and I am very interested in how far we can take our new province.

We are a magister of the Grey Order a certified baddass and have quite a few friends in high places. We can bribe and cajole our way to some military help after the K8P campaign. I am also thinking about the future and a strong base for us to experiment outside of those asshole Witch Hunters domain will be beneficial in the future.

In the end who knows if we hit a couple 100 crits (by Ranalds grace) we could upgrade to Elector Countess Mathilde Weber......

Can someone tell me what the effects of the base runes on our belt are? Like, what would they do in the tabletop/P&P?

Gladly.
First, the combination is pretty much impossible in TT - we have, basically, 6+ runes worth of effects on us squeezed in 3, and not all of them can be placed on talismans or used by non-runesmith.

Spelleater - that is basically effect of two runes of spellbreaking, only even better. Two runes of spellbreaking on talisman allows you to auto-counterspell once per battle (thus "12 hours recherge" restriction) and burn the spell from enemy mind with 50% chance. In TT it also usable only by runesmiths. Our version only protetcs us instead of general dispelling, but does it passively and burn spells from enemy minds 100% of the time.

Master rune of spite - in TT it is another talisman rune, every time you suffer an unsaved wound (one that penetrated your armor, toughness etc.) you retaliate with an S5 hit. S5 is a "human with greatsword" level (humans have S3, great weapons add +2S). Ours seems better - returns "every strike", so maybe even one that got stopped by armor and "twofold" is better than S5 - it will really hurt monsters and heroes.

Fortitude is a pretty basic rune, but it is an armor rune, not a talisman one. Basic variant gives +1T (elevating toughness from human level to dwarf level, for example (T3 to T4)). Stacked it also grants ward save and "almost always ignore multiple wounds rule", i.e. resistance to massive damage. I don't know which level of benefit we got, but I assume only first until proven otherwise.

Rune of the furnace - on TT grants 2+ ward save against flaming attacks (i.e. 83% chance to resist such attacks). Our version seems to grant outright fire immunity.

Unnamed rune against chaos - seems like GM's own invention, doesn't have analogs in the TT (at least in 8th edition). TT has Rune of Valaya, but it does very different thing, so it is probably some other Valaya-granted rune (I suppose Ancestors invented more than one rune each).

The title is stupid as we can't invest in it.

Sure.

He points to the first rune. "This, as I understand it, is a variation on the Spelleater Rune. When a hostile spell is targeted against you, it will not only counter it but also burn - literally burn - the knowledge of it from the mind of the caster. It will be dormant for twelve hours after each use."
That's a talisman rune in tabletop that works only once (there is no fluff if it's per battle or just once). For 45 points it takes 2/3 slots on an item and can be used to dispel any spell (not just one targeted at you) but has a 50% chance of making spellcaster forget the spell. Literally burning is a novel feature. TLDR: less agile, more effective, takes half as much slots, overall superior to tabletop version.

He points to the second. "This appears to be based on the Master Rune of Spite, but somehow combined with the Rune of Fortitude. It will grant you the strength to withstand wounds, while returning twofold any strike against whoever dealt it to you."
Rune of fortitude comes in three levels, a single level costs 30 points grants +1 Toughness, nothing to write home about. It is an armor rune and cannot be placed on a talisman. Top version of this rune grants ward save and reduces the number of wounds you receive. Rune of spite is a talismanic rune of 25 point cost that makes anyone who wounds you to suffer a moderately dangerous attack. How impressive this combined rune is depends on the level of Rune of Fortitude used, though it's impressive either way.
And the third, the largest and most intricate of the three. "This one incorporates elements of both the Rune of the Furnace and the Rune that Valaya gave to us that allowed us to weather the coming of Chaos. It will grant you such resistance to flame that you could wade through lava, and burn off any taint of chaos before it could even touch you."
Armor Rune of Furnace costs 5 points and grants almost immunity to any fire. Master Rune of Valaya is a banner rune of 65 points that makes dispelling easier for the whole army and regularly tries to autodispel lingering spells. We've got full effects of the first one (or more than full) and toned-down, tailored effect of Rune of Valaya. Also we get a second Master Rune in an item, which is forbidden.

Total value of all runes combined is 170 to 215 (depending on fortitude rune level) but at least one of them is toned down. Also we get 6 runes combined in a single item, two of them master runes and three not suitable for a talisman. In other words, it's OP.

A thought on the lustrian eggs, even if we don't personally use them, they would make amazing familiars and we can probably send them off to the Ghur college for some favours.
What Amber college? The Amber order is absurdly decentralized. Their "college" in Altdorf is basically a totem pole that they argue around in times of crisis. You literally have to send up a smoke signal if you want an Amber mage for anything

I would much rather not get involved in Border Prince politics. I like Mathilde as a Empire aligned agent. Doing what she can, where she can, to help people and going back home to rest and recuperate inbetween.

Getting involved in the Border Princes would probably involve a lot of politicking, a lot of suspicion from everyone back home, and probably fighting other humans for nothing more than farmland or slights or whatever. It's not the kind of thing that interests me or my mental framework of Mathilde. And yes I'm aware she was a spymistress.

Being a Border Prince is little better than being a village eldar because that is what most Border Princes are random people that run small villages that usually don't last longer than a decade why would we waste 300 gold on this shithole when we already have a fief to run and manage?

And if the Empire wanted the borderlands they could have taken it by now but they don't because it's not worth the time or effort to defeat all of the orcs and goblins living there when they could be spending time secureing Sigmar's Empire.
Alternatively it's the deeds to all of not-Albania or even all of not-Serbia.

The Empire has no interest in trying to hold and govern the region. That doesn't mean they have no interest in who does. A polity that kills greenskins and bandits and protects traders is a better neighbour than anarchy and one that listens to imperial diplomats is better yet. The poor, doomed bastards might only last a couple of generations but while they do, they matter.

We haven't really interacted with the man leading our fellow countrymen. Countrymen who consider us a war hero. We can give them a pretty substantial morale boost here, let's not skip them over. Also let's put his fears to ease about his Sylvanian name.

Again, becoming a Border Prince does not exclude being an Empire-aligned agent. Renegade Crowns book specifically provides "Being an Agent of the Empire/Imperial Magic College" as a reason for a wizard to be there.

This is in the interests of the Empire and the Gray College. Not in the sense that we're being told to do this, but legitimacy verified by dwarves is high value and they're selling it for a song. Even if we turn straight around and hand it to the college it'll still be worth our money.

Note that the parchment does come with a crown. We can add value to that...

@BoneyM if we give the Border Princes title to the college, how much college favour do we think we can get?

Okay, just the vote first since I got a lot of poking to catch up on and probably want to sleep before that :p

[ ] Forces have been sent ahead to bridge the first inconvenient tributary of the Blood River; join them and aid in standing guard against any that may try to stop you.

Static defense, basically this is guarding the river ford while the dwarf miners build a bridge across. Whether it actually benefits from us is somewhat dubious, dwarfs keep a tight perimeter and around here its all greenskin shamans, who don't do long delayed subtle workings

[ ] Ulthar's Rangers and Petrescu's marksmen are ranging far to ensure that any greenskin that claps eyes on the Expedition don't live to tell the tale. Assist them.

Scouting and slaying. Take No Heed, Shadowsteed are highlights here, since we expand how far the best scouts can range silently.
Not a bad choice to break in our new amulet(which is crazy awesome).

[ ] If any resistance does start to gather, they will be smashed apart by the very heavy cavalry of the Knightly Orders. Stand ready with them.

Cavalry. Get to know the knights in their favored field, show off our chops by choppying orcs.
That said, they may or may not see any action.

[ ] Have Ulthar handpick his best sharpshooters to be equipped with envenomed bolts.

Still no priority targets yet. We probably want to do this before the real hold delving, but no rush.

[ ] You've heard that greatswords and greataxes are near identical in the way they're used, and you happen to be surrounded by experts in the art of the axe. Learn how to use one.

With favors burnt, this is just eking out another +Martial skill type.
Pass.

[ ] Test their skills in battle.

We don't actually know how good they are, but we know ourselves, even journeymen can get pretty badass, especially with mastered spells for their combat style.

[ ] Help Esbern teach Seija to Dispel.
[ ] Ask him to teach Johann to Dispel.

Probably still an important job. Kragg is sort of the best dispeller around, but he can't be everywhere.
We want this done early. It might take a few tries.

[ ] Ask him to reforge your sword into a superior one.
[ ] Introduce him to the dwarven smiths so he can try to convince them to teach him.
[ ] Ask the smiths to teach him as a favour to you (-2 favours)

We probably would find it harder to find smiths with free time once we settle in on the siege, but its just buying rep really.

[ ] Help him find a place with the dwarf artillery crews so that he can supplement their abilities in combat.

As with the poisoned bolts, we want to do this before we get stuck in, but we don't NEED to do it yet.

[ ] Keep tabs on his interactions with the dwarves, making sure he's not fishing for information that the dwarves want to keep for themselves.

Eh, we already cleared the air. Pass.

[ ] Purchase the strange Lustrian eggs (200 gc).
[ ] Do not purchase the strange Lustrian eggs.

Dinosaur eggs! If they hatch on campaign...we DO have Amber wizards right there.

[ ] Purchase the Helldrake scales (100 gc).
[ ] Do not purchase the Helldrake scales.

Enchanter stock. Pretty nice given the rarity, though what kind of craft its good for is a little unclear, since we need to unlock freeform enchantment first.

[ ] Purchase the title of a Border Princess (300 gc).
[ ] Do not purchase the title of a Border Princess.

Sounds cool but:
The third is from very close to home: the dented and tarnished crown of a Border Prince, along with a deed on ancient parchment bequeathing a section of land somewhere in the anarchic region to the holder. Accompanying that is a short note from Barak Varr acknowledging the legitimacy of the claim, and another note acknowledging the legitimacy of the acknowledged legitimacy. Standing next to the merchant is an incredibly surly dwarf who says, before you even ask, that the scroll is genuine; since he's wearing the livery of Barak Varr in full sight of the market's guards without being put to some very serious questions, you're inclined to believe him. From what little you know of the region, the kingdom in question is likely to be the incredibly small, utterly poor, claimed by a dozen other Princes and hosting a greenskin infestation for good measure; but then, Princess would be such a nice title to add to your growing list, and it might unlock certain geopolitical options for you...
A Border Prince title is barely worth the paper its written on(which is why this comes with a crown, and 300gc sounds around a cheap crown range). We'd need to wage a war to take it, and then another war to keep it.
While the College gives us the "y u do dis" face again.

It'd make a great gift except I don't know anyone I hate enough to gift it to.

We could just hand it directly to the Grey College for some potential favor and an explanation for why we are in a habit of carrying several full pouches of gold with us. "When travelling far from home, who knows what we can do for the good of the Empire simply by spending a bit of cash".

But eh. I don't really care so much and it would be more than half our pocket money.
