[X] Speak honestly of everything not explicitly secret, including rifts within the Karaz Ankor
We owe The Empire enough to be honest but we owe the dwarfs enough to be keep their secrets.

[X] You've got a puppy, he's got several. Easy. Spend time with him as your pup plays with his.
puppy date, puppy date.

[X] Panoramia currently calls a small cottage somewhere in the Eastern Valley home, help her expand it into a proper tower.
Panoramia probably would not appreciate this as much as the others but I think it is in character to presume she would want a tower.

That's a good point. @BoneyM , would saying that we are taking all our oaths seriously be insulting to him? Rationally, it should be calming, cuz it means we are loyal to our Empire's oaths too, and its not like all humans are perfect rational machines, not even grey magisters, especially since grey magisters have been conditioned for loyalty to their oaths.
I mean, I think he kinda knows and is expecting given that Mathilde is:

1. This is somebody dealing with Dwarfs, so secrets and oaths will be a thing, and will be held in importance.
2. This is somebody who is from the Grey Order. Secrets and not-being-told-absolutely-everything and confidentiality is double assumed.

I mean, we could mention that keeping confidentiality is important for us, but... yeah. We're a Grey Wizard and we're dealing with Dwarfs.

If this turns into a lecture on Dwarf culture in general -- as opposed to 'just' being a diplomatic briefing, what's-the-situation-like briefing -- we can talk about the importance of secrets and oaths to Dwarfs.

Okay dumb idea that just came to me. Mathilde is basically one of the foremost experts in dwarven culture out there right now.

Couldn't we just like, ask the head diplomat to send us a apprentice to K8P and we help teach them? Just getting the guy/girl a chance to live among the dwarves to some degree a great way to teach them.
Putting aside the appalling AP drain you're proposing, Mathilde is not particularly good at diplomacy, and is certainly not qualified to be training people for the Empire's diplomatic corps.

Yeah its a dumb AP drain, but I don't think we need to teach them how to do their job at all.

We just have the ability to give them a chance to learn about the dwarves in a fashion that's not possible in the empire.

Apparently he doesn't, according to previous WOG, which is why I want to take the "we are honourable" route.

I think in that case, I think it will naturally come out. As part of the briefing and topic. Due to her working for Dwarfs and her being a Grey Wizard. (Though I suppose it couldn't hurt to point out the importance and necessity of the secrets and oaths...)

Though, ah, which particular WOG are you referring to?

"If your palms are getting itchy, watch the rivers."

"Is this about the peat thing? The Grand Theogonist will not shut up about it."
I just noticed this on the reread but is this our peat thing? Why is the Grand Theogonist constantly complaining about us trying to stop peat merchants to starve out the vampires? Did something go wrong or is this just more of him being an obstructionist politician? I could definitely see him making a fuss over it just to spite Roswita for getting rid of his incompetent on her council or just to oppose the college of magics doing anything out of reflex.

Either way our EIC report should be interesting to read as should our next talk with Roswita.

The current Matriarch of the Amethyst order has been alive for centuries, long before the founding of the colleges. Some of Teclis' original sudents are still around as LM and they are more than two centuries old.
Wait, what? How did she get recruited? How did she know to stick to one wind without Teclisian education? How was an Ancient Outsider Death Witch considered anywhere close to trustworthy by the agents of the Empire?
-The vaults Belegar is melting all those old coins from.
@BoneyM This is not an explicit secret? Are you sure?

Even if it isn't, I really dislike the idea of giving them stuff that KaK can explicitly use against K8P. Because they clearly see KaK as the polity that matters and might want to win points with the High King by telling him about weaknesses of his "uppity underlings".

I feel like our answer to this should be to ride back to Belegar as fast as we can and seriously discuss a) revealing that KaK has a waystone root and b) preempting or assisting the Empire's likely attempt to pry apart the Karaks. The first would be useful if Belegar wants to get the Empire's support in the waystone project; knowing that it's possible to have a root other than Ulthuan would immediately put that at the top of their priority list. The second would be useful if Belegar wants to either commit to presenting a unified front (by instructing his allies to not let the empire go around Thorgrim) or accelerate the situation (by reaching out to the Empire himself).

Well... maybe it was the Grand Theogonist raving about how everybody needed to watch the peat-sellers? Maybe he was backing Roswita's findings on this? (I mean, miracles can happen I suppose!)

Could be the other way around, and the GT is pushing to stop the peat and help Roswita. Heidi just said he wouldn't shut up about it, not what he was actually saying.

Given the lack of clarity, it might be the opposite, and he's complaining about Talabecland merchants.

Given his track record so far, maybe it's not likely, but it's at least one way to take that sentence.

Edit: Weber'd. Twice.

He also stated that it's something Mathilde won't mention without being prompted, and he's almost certainly not going to mention it.

Here it is

The counterpoint is "but we could have our cake and eat it too if you tell us and we keep it a secret that you told."
The countercounterpoint is "but you might be shit at keeping secrets."

It could be argued that it's accurate, but it's unlikely to be appreciated.

Huh, this is the first time I've ever had three people quote me in a row to say the same thing... not sure how to feel about it. Anyway I did consider that he might be helping but I just sort of cynically assumed it was going to be the opposite given his actions so far, still maybe I'm wrong. We can hope until we find out more I suppose.
