My contention is that the dearth of undead wizards is a function of necromancers having trouble raising wizards, rather than the magic preventing them from being able to cast magic afterwards.
Thats fair, but I take the opposite position and unless BoneyM wants to way in (and I don't think we know the answer IC) then we can't prove who is correct.

At this juncture we could easily afford a Perpetual assigned to the EIC, which would:
-Ease concerns regarding the EIC's long term loyalty with an actual Grey agent on the team.
-Allows for more complex intrigue activities without Mathilde micromanaging it with a personal AP.
-Being a trained wizard adds significant additional utility, even if their spellcasting ability bars advancement, they have a very high level of education, from the only professional spy academy we can trust to uphold Imperial values in existence.

Overall not a bad idea!

Why? It is one of two potential Max actions that work towards our task of tranlating Queekish.
Well, we've already been told we have all the Queekish vocabulary except magical lexicon, and it's a write-in, so the normal guarantees of "options offered to us won't be traps" doesn't apply. Like, there's a chance that Max will find new words in there, but IMO not a good one.

If BoneyM is kind to us, he will interpret the write-in as "translate/sort through the books" and we'll get some progress on that, I guess?

We already have everything except magic terminology, and Moulder is unlikely to have it.

It's also a write-in, and doesn't have the usual guarantees by the author of not being a trap option.

Any other, and I do mean any other option, is superior.

Edit: Eshin'd

And even while options are not traps, they can be trolls.
Write ins can end up as self made traps, trolls, or both at the same time.

It wouldn't surprise me if there are very juicy options in the EIC Network actions if we recruited an actual Grey Perpetual as opposed to a normal Handler whose political reliability are far less secure, most certainly not to the Grey Order. A Grey Perpetual makes it clear to potential future rouge actors EIC we mean business, and we are putting an eye from our order on you. If we are worried that the EIC would misuse things like the Riverine Para-navy in the long run, a line of Grey Perpetual Watchers to ensure the EIC doesn't go Corporate State sounds like a very good idea.

We can quite literally groom a Grey Perpetual to specialize in Corporate Oversight, within one of the largest business concerns in the Empire.

Or we could literally eventually unlock the media tree and create Pro-Imperial/Pro College media through the EIC info services.

My guess is that the Dice get's rolled, and if it's high enough, the action does.... something. At nat 100, BoneyM would go out and stare outside his balcony for awhile.

At Nat 1.....

Finding words to translate will be incredible hard. Queksih seems to be a even more vague language than English or French . So words will have different meaning in different context or where a word is placed in a sentence. Also without the pheromone or body language written quekish must have some way conveying that. So it must either have more words or tenses for words Mathilde knows.

@BoneyM, two related questions about the Max discussion: Is he capable of writing this paper
Translated text on Chaos Dwarf anatomy (TIMELESS)
solo? I know he doesn't have as good a grasp on the language as we do, but he's done most of the work with that book so far, so I thought it might be possible. And, if so, will writing the paper on that book spoil the surprise that we can translate Queekish, or would he write it in such a way as to disguise its source?

Good points. Hmm. But the vote period is almost done and I am loath to change my vote or plan... Oh well, time to make a sacrifice to Ranald or maybe Odin or Loki I'll see what I have/how much I care after dinner.

I will say this. While Boney regularly called votes after 24 hours pre-moving hiatus, he doesn't seem do it anymore.

As for changing votes, it's entirely up to you.

I hadn't realised that the Max option in the leading plan was a write-in either. That's not very encouraging as to it's value. I mean, of course you'll 'find' Queekish in Skaven books... but now I wonder what it's hoping to accomplish?

We're not known to be missing any vocabulary:
You can literally write the book on a topic for the same amount of effort as two papers; this can be split over multiple turns. You don't need to have all the pieces to do so, but it would be more efficient and impressive if you did.

Great, Boney, thank you very much.
It's never too late. And there is little to no value I'd say, we explicitly know we have everything bar the magical vocabulary.
I shall take your advice. Yolo swag it is.

[X] Plan: Spoken Queekish v4 with Better Max
-[X] Contains one Overwork action
-[X][MAX] Write a paper: Translated text on Chaos Dwarf anatomy (TIMELESS)
-[X][JOHANN] Study an artefact: Unknown black gem, stolen from the Skaven.
-[X][DUCK] Johann's investigation into the ratling gun has hit a wall. See if you can help
-[X][EIC] Put policies in place that local news should be collected and sent to you (rumour mill).
-[X] Seek to build a stronger rapport with Qrech, and provide enough sources of mental stimulation that you can turn your attention elsewhere.
-[X] Try to convince him outright to teach you spoken Queekish.
--[X] Deceiver: Continue with the Gambit that teaching you Queekish continues to cause discontent in the Grey Order and of course the Grey Order itself already has Queekish...
-[X] Travel to the Grey College and attend lessons there: Waystones and Waystone maintenance
-[X][AV] Investigate the exact circumstances required to induce a transformation.
-[X] Wolf is fully grown and a Very Good Boy. Train him. (increases his intelligence, he may learn to speak Praestantia)
-[X][PENTHOUSE] Have a gyrocopter landing pad built into your balcony.
-[X][SERENITY] Translated Eshin correspondence on the Skaven Civil War (TIMELESS)
-[X][COIN] The Deceiver: Skaven Gambit

This plan exists because the leading plan is popular, but recent discussion has centered on the fact that the Max action is a write-in that people aren't sure will actually work. So, instead of sending him for more vocabulary he is unlikely to find, this plan has him write a paper that, honestly, he deserves to write because he did most of the actual work for it (we acquired the book and also filled out the library with anatomical texts in other languages, but he did all the translation). Boney has confirmed that this will not spoil the surprise of Queekish, so we don't need to worry about that.

I would encourage people who like this plan to approval vote for both it and the original, and then if this one becomes the second-place option (unlikely at this point, but stranger turnarounds have happened -- remember that the plan we did last turn was a modified version of the then-leading plan to include the "go raid Skryre with Johann" option that caught up after the lead had been established with 50 votes), subtract out the original.

[X] Plan: Spoken Queekish v4 with Better Max and Better Paper
Traded approval votes with @TotallyNotEvil in hopes of a better max action.
[X] Plan Redshirt v2
And my approval vote for my favorite non-Spoken-Queekish plan.

Discussion about the current Max action quoted here for reference:
We already have the books; the thing Max is doing, if I understand @LightLan correctly, is looking for words we don't already know in those books, as opposed to trying to translate them in their entirety, with the hopes of expanding our vocabulary in a useful way.

If it helps motivate you, I dislike Max's current action greatly, and would like it to be different.

Understandable.

He also goes and stares outside for a while, but is cackling maliciously as he does so? :V

Might as well add the 'think of your future comfort' gambit to the second Qretch action.

46 votes right? Let's see if we can get the thread moving, as much as it pains me to withdraw my vote for Power stones. Next turn I guess?
