Yeah, cordon is still in absolutely horrible idea, no worries. Skaven uniting in context of murdering each other for hours is End Times lolskaven scenario.

Not really? I'd agree with you if the Dragon didn't show up, but "We may hate you, and you hate me, but this giant lizard will eat both of us, so truce?" isn't a hard stretch to make.

@Alectai, I'm coming around to the anti-skaven-escape cordon, but I really don't think Kragg should be on the front lines. He should be back in the Caldera with the rest of our siege in the event that the dragon decides to cause us trouble. I don't want him in a place where a lucky Eshin can kill him.

You never gave too much attention to philosophy, but the Grey College covered it a little in the hopes of heading off any doubts their graduates might encounter. A being that does evil because it's all they know, goes the Grey College's position, is no less evil than one that embraced it willingly. The point where a difference might have been made lies in the past. It's natural to mourn the tragedy of those circumstances, but if you let it still your hand, the victims of future evils will not find solace in the perpetrator's lack of agency.
As definitions of evil goes, thats practical enough.
Guilt and innocence is for others to determine, the Grey Order's position is to judge how best to stop things from hurting even more.
You do your best to keep that in mind as the first of the attendants throws themselves at you, and though the argument rings hollow, focusing on it lets you not focus on what you're doing. The attendants are fanatics, chosen for their piety and indoctrinated even further into something akin to a religious order. But what they aren't is warriors, and Aethyric Armour alone renders you immune to their fangs and claws. That doesn't stop them from trying, even after they see what happens to the first. There are places in the room that could conceal a Skaven, and the door behind you remains open. Any of them could run or hide. Not one of them does. You can respect that.

Sort of reminds me of Flagallants, oddly enough.
The grim business is quickly done, and you take a moment to catch your breath as best you can amid the overwhelming smell of blood and chemicals, regathering your willpower for an even grimmer business. The nearest Rat Mother lifts a head at your approach, baring her teeth at you. Maybe she has enough wits remaining to recognize you as a threat, but most likely she's expecting to be fed, and when no food is forthcoming her head slumps once more as she returns to the embrace of her chemical slumber. Skin hangs in folds from her massive frame, Mors' recent desperation freeing her from pregnancy for what must be the first time since she was transformed into what she now is. This is a much more straightforward philosophical question, as the chemicals that make her unnatural gravidity possible will soon begin to dissipate, and nature cannot sustain what warpstone has created. Those that know the secrets to maintaining her system are either already dead or soon will be, at the hands of men or Dwarves or Clan Eshin. The only difference you can make is to grant her a quick, painless death.

You wonder if she'd prefer it, if she was lucid enough to understand. Or if she was faithful enough to the Horned Rat that she'd want to suffer those future agonies in the faintest hope of some other Clan discovering her and using her to produce future generations of Skaven. Or if the process of transformation into a Rat Mother begins early enough that she never had a chance to develop enough to understand such matters.

You give her what peace you can, then move on to her sisters.
And interestingly Mathilde found far less difficulty with a mercy kill. There is no doubt, compared to the attendants, who were to the end, only seeing their sacred duty through.

And hmm, on the age of transformation, I'm guessing given the sheer size differences, its likely from infancy, where theres no allies, and no feuds which might complicate their function.

As expected, the Trolls had moved into Karag Rhyn, and appear to have thrown themselves wholeheartedly into a chance to fill their bellies. The Crooked Toof and Broken Moon appear to have been engaged in a spirited argument over territory when the Trolls had arrived, and were more than willing to turn their anger against these new interlopers, and greenskin Waaagh clashed with Trollish appetite and both sides lost. The mere dozens of Trolls remaining apparently consumed their fallen comrades to keep the feast for themselves, and all indications are they won't be bothering anyone for quite some time as they work their way through their feast.
So as I understand this:
-Orcs vs Goblins - Inconclusive
-Trolls arrive, Orcs and Goblins form temporary alliance against the Neutral Hungry faction.
-Trolls horribly mauled but victorious, other trolls expected to regenerate.
-Trolls decide that the best way to have enough food is to eat the fallen trolls before they can regenerate.

...just...we've been starving them out for years, and their regeneration just won't let them DIE from it.
The first chance at food they go completely mad.

And on the plus side, they're busy feeding, which means that instead of facing trolls ready to battle packed in tightly, you're facing lone trolls eating, which you could fill with crossbow bolts as your introduction, then advance and hack the body apart while its regenerating that.

Thats great.
Thats also probably going to give us a bunch of miffed slayers come the next turn, when they arrive for the troll fighting and theres none left.

I keep thinking back to Belegar's invitation to Kazador. "Come quick or the manlings will get them all first"

That pales to news from Karag Zilfin. In stark and terrifying contrast to the sedate nature of its slumbering form, the Ice Dragon burrowed through every tunnel it could fit through with unnatural celerity, dragging any Skaven seeking refuge in narrower passages with a barbed net of pure light.
Just how mad is the dragon to be literally pulling them from holes it can't even fit into? With, according to a quick google check, Battle Magic.
With the Clan Skryre shattered, it then disappeared into the Underway, flying down the vast tunnel of the Grand Avenue towards Karag Yar. The Rangers have swept Karag Zilfin as best as they can, skirting the areas where the stench of chemicals becomes overwhelming, and found very few survivors, though they weren't survivors as of shortly after the Rangers found them.
Well now.
Its not over till its over, Eshin Assassin and Eshin Sorceror, if they form a temporary alliance against the dragon with Sleek, MIGHT have a chance. Might.

Or the dragon nukes the whole place with Pillar of Radiance.
They've also found Skaven bodies that didn't appear to be the work of the dragon's talons or teeth or spell, bearing signs of bludgeoning similar to what happened to greenskins trespassing on Karag Mhonar, but again, no sign of what might have done it.
...how'd that get to Zilfin without us or the scouts encountering it at any point?
You digest this new information as best you can. The only organized resistance left in the entire Karak is Clan Eshin and Clan Mors, both of whom are locked in a battle to the bitter end, and an angry Emperor Dragon just joined their battle uninvited.
So, Eshin and Mors now DO have an option not to kill each other to feast on the dead because the dragon would have enough flesh for both and wants to kill both.

Whether they can ally up before a lightning fast dragon gets them is another matter.

Vote is simple this time:

[X] YAR: Make no move until you've scouted the Karag Yar battle.
-[X] Personally.

[X] RHYN: Assault the Trolls now.

[X] ZILFIN: Assault the mountain to slay any surviving Skaven.

Yar - Dragon on the warpath. Make sure we got eyes on the situation, do not potentially provoke the dragon. Its not in a talking mood. Yes the Skaven might yet reverse the situation, but this can be anything from a two way brawl to a four way free for all.

Rhyn - Dozens of trolls in dispersed formation mainly occupied with feasting like they hadn't eaten in two years(they really hadn't) is probably as easy as troll slaying ever gets. I think we could probably manage this with the Besiegers and mercenaries alone even.

Zilfin - Somewhat more confused here, but we don't want ANY Skryre left running around after the dragon moved on. They're desperate and the tropes say that letting desperate mad scientists do what they want is how they engage the self-destruct. Clean them out and pull back when the dragon's done.

I don't think we should assault both Zilfin and Rhyn at once, as that will spread our forces thin. Also, there is no hurry with Rhyn. So I think we should attack Zilfin now, then clean up Rhyn after.

There is a fundamental disagreement on the realism of such scenarios here. It is a hard stretch. Not after Black Hunger, not when chaotic melee is still going, not after years of killing each other slowly and hours of killing each other intensively. "But Legendary lords!" is not a convincing argument for me.

Ah, fuck it. Arguing in the state of panic never helped, I'll just wait for the next update. Dice might still save us.

Do we need all our Dwarf forces on Yar? I have my doubts about the ability of human mercenaries (most of which are Border Prince rabble) to both kill a few dozen trolls, and clear out all of Karag Zilfin.

Not to mention the whole 'Ooh, shiny loot' Karag Nar problem the mercs might have in Zilfin. That's where the Royal Treasury and a possible Dragon hoard are after all.

Only if we also cordon off the Yar thunderdome. If we don't, we have more than enough forces to go around; there's only a few dozen trolls left, we can bring up the Undumgi for that, and we have twenty-ish-thousand dwarves to work with.

This is a really good argument for clearing out Zilfin ASAP.

Not sure whether to scout personally or with Rangers, but I definitely want to clear out the Skaven and Trolls while they're at the weakest they'll ever be.

@BoneyM Not related to the current vote, but with the holiday season upon us, are there any days that we shouldn't expect an update due to Social Obligations?

Sleek Sharpwit is an absolute legend from what I've heard of him, but even legends have limits. With only a horrifically mauled force in the tail end of the Black Hunger he isn't killing that dragon, and the assassins are all hard countered because Hysh dragon.

Well now, at this rate conquering the rest of the peaks feels like an actual possibility.

It genuinely looks like at the end of the day Belegar is going to have at least two more sapphires, between Kvinn-Wyr and Karag Rhyn. Yar's sapphire is a strong possibility, but possibly the dragon will claim it as territory. Zilfin's sapphire is unlikely unless the dragon dies in the fighting with the skaven. The Mhonar sapphire should wait until we figure out what the actual fuck.

But yeah, pretty good haul, assuming we survive the Waaaagh coming our way.
