Hmm on the same front what about asking for time off to head to the colleges of magic and bone up on our enchanting skill and other extra-curricular magic skills.

Stealth murder bootcamp is an option solely because stealth murder has been Mathilde's most useful contribution since the beginning of the Expedition and there's a reasonable expectation that it will continue to be the case.

The thread voted to make a commitment to Belegar and to the Karak. If the thread would rather have full control of Mathilde's time and priorities once more, the way to do that is to resign.

@BoneyM on another note, would Mathilde upping her diplomacy and trekking to Kislev for Asarnil count as Dragon AP appropriate?

I reallyyy want to see if we can get Mathilde a dragon fren. Just to add to the whole 'it followed me home'.

Wolf, dinosaureggs, spiders, rattling pups,... Dragons?

Yeah, I think the time for breaks is when all of the Karags are under King Belegar's control, as well as the Grand Avenue, and all concentrations of Skaven, greenskins, and other horrors have been evicted for not paying rent for the past 3,000 years.

Huh, I figured Belegar would rather give Mathilde a sabbatical if she requests it to bump her skills than lose her entirely. Fair enough.

Most of all what bothers me with this, is the angle of how if Mathilde does this as a councilor it won't be her discovery. Nor will it be Mathilde sitting down with her kinda friend Kragg to figure out what Ranald threw into her lap.

This is a personal project for Mathilde, she were hounded by that Snake daemon for years. With the luck of the dice and smarts to figure out how to solve it.

It truly grates if Mathilde won't be acknowledged as the woman behind this extremely lucky find.

Heck the Vitae weren't even discovered in K8P! It were discovered in Stirland and her hidden Ranald base.
To add on to this, Mathilde is prepared to make significant investments into this substance, culminating into divine intervention. It is a Magnum Opus that will stand in preeminence for generations, and I really don't want to hand it off.

I'm positively anxious to see the reaction everyone's reaction to the tower of DOOM!

I wonder, does Kragg have anything that could make even Emperor Dragon think twice about messing around with us? Or are Anvil of Doom runes mostly massive scope of effect, but not actually God tier concentrated firepower kind of thing? Not familiar enough with Warhammer to know.

@BoneyM
Since Cartographer doesn't seem to have a shot and Deceiver only works prepared ahead of time, I'd like to suggest "I need to recuperate a bit after that mountain enchantment project" as a harmless white-lie if Belegar wonders where it went in Mathilde's project pile. It beats the truth of "I don't feel like it right now."

Assuming he even calls Mathilde out on its absence. I don't even know what to expect from him, after his support for Experimental Wizard Magic Mountain.

Its not like Belegar ever indicated he wanted us to do cartography. Why are some people so nervous about this, gosh.

Diplomacy is Kazrik's job, if it requires careful talk he should be going to Kislev. If it's based on a pre-existing relationship instead of Mathilde's charm, it could be part of the dragon project, assuming the Books of Grudges turn out to be free of the ice dragon.

He'd only 'call it out' if he suspected it was missing for nefarious reasons.

Yes, they are called Ancestor Runes.

If only he had some way of quickly recharging them, but alas, t'was not to be.

I think the interpretation is more that he'd really like to, but he needs stuff done constantly in order to not get wrecked the next time trouble flares up in this mad adventure of his that's somehow working out. He'd be willing to let us go prepare to be better at our answers to flares of trouble, because he trusts that it will increase our ability to be useful, but if he's not sure he'd really rather we were working on something that was useful in that manner.

Of course, given that enchanting and arcane architectural work made the Karak functionally immune to arbitrary amounts of Orcish armies coming down Death Pass, he might change his mind about those priorities after he learns what we've done; Enchanting would turn from self-improvement for Mathilde to Mathilde talking about opening up a potential new Great Works tech tree, as far as Belegar quest might read it. Something for the thread to think about in the turns to come, I guess (but of course, not as a main thing we'd expect Belegar to spend money on; if we did that, we wouldn't be able to resign for decades without looking like we were scamming him).

Ancestor Runes. They're Fulcrum-Of-Magic level stuff; that's the level beyond mundane Battle Magic.

Why? If he asks why it's fine we can just say the truth. With the other peaks Having been poked in and threats mostly figured out we thought it best to move onto more pressing concerns.

The only ancestor rune so far we saw caused earth to split and great courage and fortitude in line of pikes. Dragon don ´t give a fuck about either, because it flies and no amount of courage beats fire (or ice in this case i guess) that literally halts greater daemons in their tracks. Is why i am asking, what can they do? Because so far what we saw of them was wide, battlefield changing effects that are powerful, but don ´t focus on direct firepower which is kind of what you need against a dragon. Also, could you tone it down with the passive aggressiveness maybe?

Yeah, I think the in-character reasoning makes perfect sense. When we proposed it, we didn't know scouting would be Dreng's task for the turn or what he would find. Now that he's found stuff, it makes in-character sense for Mathilde, instead of proposing Cartographer again, to instead propose magical solutions to the things he found: dragon, horror movie, suspiciously quiescent skaven.

So the thing is, in-setting, dwarves must have an answer to dragons, because Emperor dragons do not make a habit of taking over Karaks. I asked the thread if there's any lore occurrence in which a karak has fallen to a dragon, and the only thing people could cite was Thunder Mountain. So we're missing something about dwarf capabilities: obviously a dragon is a problem, but historically speaking greenskins and skaven are way more threatening to dwarfholds than dragons are.

In his place I'd assume it was superceded by two in-depth scouting projects (Silent Karag and dragon).

Because it was.

I'm not entirely sure he would not, given that stark a choice, but doing so in the first place would be a significant blow to his trust in Mathilde. More to the point I would go so far as to call effectively blackmailing Belegar this way out of character as much if not more than using the Deciver on Kragg.

Would be fun if they were in the book of grudges but for a relatively minor thing, like mocking a perfectly normal beard, or hunting on some hold's goats.
