Clearly now is the the time for the theoretical cat project to shine!

Even if not intergrating them finding out what exactly about them scares Skaven should be interesting!

[ ] FIEF: Leave the current and future money be.
Let's give the steward opportunity to make our little fief better.

[ ] [TOWER] Complete
Our tower is done, I'd say. It works at day, it works at night, it works with bad weather.

[ ] PROJECT: Skaven Politics
This is really something to look at. A united Skaven underground would suck.
[ ] PROJECT: Dragon
This has to be done before it wakes up. And we do not know when it will.
[ ] PROJECT: Karag Mhonar
Weird stuff is the Wizard's job.
[ ] PROJECT: Cartographer
This would be nice, but isn't a priority
[ ] PROJECT: Kvinn-Wyr
Also nice, but it does protect our flank nicely till we know what is going in at Mhonar.
[ ] PROJECT: Defence
This is always something to think about. Perhaps couple it with some more enchantment training.
[ ] PROJECT: Offence
Let's give Silvania time to fully finish up before we do that.

[] Plan Mysteries
-[] PROJECT: Skaven Politics
-[] PROJECT: Dragon
-[] PROJECT: Karag Mhonar
-[] PROJECT: Defence

The three mysteries and a more traditional add to the defences option.
The bonus with our defenses is, that they will not be typical dwarven defenses. :)

Not sure about the dragon stuff, that's a lot of money we're running out of fast, especially considering we're going to be getting a new tower most likely.

Everything else looks good.
Personal Wealth: 255 Stirlandian gold crowns, 342 K8P gold coins, 442 silver ingots to be spent within the Karaz Ankor, 322 silver ingots that can be spent freely.

we've 1500 dwarven GC that can only be spent in the Karaz-Ankor. My plan proposes to spend 200 beyond the budget we're given each turn.

Pickle's Promised/Threatened Library Effortpost
Here's a rundown of things we might be doing next turn and what library topics might be useful for each. Due to the stipend mechanic, we are rewarded for planning carefully and not stocking up too much ahead of time -- overspending our stipend with stuff we'll want three turns from now is a waste of our stipend two turns from now. Obviously, we don't know yet what our task will be next turn, but we have some ideas of things that are happening in the Karak and what our personal projects are.

Skaven Politics/Queekish
Useful library topics: Skaven (general), Anatomy (Rosetta stone for the Moulder book), Linguistics (building a Queekish lexicon)
Currently: Skaven +11 - Extensive and Esoteric Imperial / Extensive Bretonnian / Extensive and Antiquarian Dwarven; Anatomy +6 - Extensive Imperial / Extensive Bretonnian / Extensive Dwarven; Linguistics +9 - Extensive and Esoteric Imperial / Extensive Bretonnian / Extensive Dwarven
Proposed purchase: Skaven (Dwarf Esoteric): 50gc, 2DF; Anatomy (Imperial Esoteric): 150gc

We can't increase our Linguistics bonus without paying Favour. We could use our stipend to gain +2 more in Linguistics rather than +1 more in Skaven, but Skaven is a more generally applicable bonus , so I think it's actually more efficient when you consider how many rolls it applies to. Spending to bring Anatomy up to its pre-Favour maximum seems wise, since that book is a big project with a lot of rolls.

Aethyric Vitae
Useful library topics: Daemons (theoretical basis for wtf it is), Sevir/Winds of Magic (inducing transformation into Winds), Aethyr/The Warp (more theory), Chemistry & Physics? (states of matter)
Currently: Daemons +4 - Extensive Dwarven & Imperial, Sevir - The Winds of Magic +6 - Extensive and Antiquarian Imperial / Extensive Dwarven, Aethyr - The Warp +2 - Extensive, Chemistry +2 - Extensive Dwarven
Proposed purchase: None
Some relevant Word of Boney citations:
In Mathilde's in-character opinion, what topics from her library are likely to be applicable to snake juice study?
Daemonology, Aethyr, the Warp.
Are there purchasable dwarf books on The Warp?
A lot of these run into the "have to spend Favour to get more books" problem, so I think boosting our Aethyr bacgrkound is the best option available to us. It doesn't cost any Favour and it's likely to be relevant -- we didn't roll with it last time, but Boney did say it was something Mathilde would consider likely to be applicable, so beefing it up before further work seems nice. EDIT: @DarkLight140 found me a followup question I'd missed and pointed out that Aethyr used to be the topic that our library now calls Sevir, and that Dwarves lack books on the Warp.
Chemistry/Physics I'm unsure about; we didn't roll with them last time, but they did feature in the narration, and if we do the transformations option it may be relevant.

Rejected topics: Chaos Mutants, Beastmen, Powerstones. While @BungieONI did raise a great point about the desirability of researching other kinds of mutation if we do the "test it on living things" action, we can't get the books that actually cover the theory behind Chaotic mutations without special dispensation, for which we would have to justify our interest. Maybe the Chaos Dwarf anatomy text will help? And Powerstones aren't useful to have in our library until we start trying to make some of our own; we might take a class on Powerstones next turn (I know @Quest wanted to find the AP for it), but our library bonus won't help us take the class (when we took Enchanting class last turn, our library bonus didn't kick in).

Karag Mhonar
Useful library topics: ???, ???, Undead??? (???)
Currently: Undead +7 - Extensive and Obscure Imperial / Extensive Bretonnian / Extensive Dwarven
Proposed purchase: None

Some people think Belegar is going to want us to investigate this next turn because seriously, what the actual fuck is going on in there. Some people think he'll be content to let it sit. So far the best theories I've seen for what's going on is "one specific kind of undead called a Mournghul" and "angry dwarf ghosts that never got proper burials." Since we don't know if we'll get this job next turn, and we don't know what's going on in there, and we don't have better ideas than a thing we've already got a lot of in our library, I'm content to let this sit.

Dragons
Useful library topics: Dragons (because dragons)
Currently: Nothing
Proposed purchase: Dragons?

There's a dragon hanging out in the Karak. A really, really, really badass one. Scouting it out might be our problem next turn; we don't know. Our library does not cover dragons at all, so we can spend up to 450gc (EDIT: 300gc) in 50gc increments for up to +6 of reading material without spending Favour. I don't know; I kind of want to spend some money on this, because having zero things in our library on the subject just seems bad and this is the sort of problem that could become a problem more quickly than a purchase cycle can account for, but I don't think I want to spend all the way up to 450 on this. I could imagine an Imperial Esoteric / Dwarf Extensive purchase plan that gets us depth-of-subject on the one side and a broad base of facts on the other side for 250gc. The other thing is that @TotallyNotEvil wants to put out a bounty for dragon bones, and Boney confirmed that knowing more about dragons before placing this bounty will help us.
EDIT: We cannot get Imperial Obscure/Antiquarian/Esoteric without spending College Favour, thanks @DarkLight140 for the citation. I don't think we should spend Favour on dragons until we know if it's our task.

tl;dr:
I think a "just the basics" plan of Skaven (Dwarf Esoteric), Anatomy (Imperial Esoteric), and Aethyr (Dwarf Extensive), which exactly consumes our stipend for 0 out-of-pocket expense, (EDIT: leaves 100gc in the stipend) is solid. But if we want to be prepared for things draconic, we can also invest in that, and need to decide how much money we're willing to throw at the problem -- my take is that Imperial Esoteric / Dwarf Extensive gives us +5 and good narrative depth for 250gc out of pocket.

UPDATE: My current recommendations can be found here:
[][LIBRARY] Skaven - Dwarf Esoteric, Anatomy - Imperial Esoteric, Dragons - Dwarf Extensive
This uses up our stipend exactly. +2 to dragons.

[][LIBRARY] Skaven - Dwarf Esoteric, Anatomy - Imperial Esoteric, Dragons - Dwarf, Imperial, and Bretonnian Extensive
200gc out of pocket, +6 to dragons.

Both of these save us AP by virtue of being things we already plan to do.

[ ] PROJECT: Skaven Politics
[ ] PROJECT: Dragon
[ ] PROJECT: Karag Mhonar
These are investigations I definitely want to be a part of. The dragon idea has the highest upside, I think.

[ ] PROJECT: Kvinn-Wyr
I'm not really sold on whether we are going to do anything special in the taking of this. Trolls are too dumb for us to manipulate, separated from enemies, and we aren't particularly good at fire. Sure, we can help out a little, but not as a project.

[ ] PROJECT: Defence
So my immediate idea for this is Panoramia making barbed wire equivalents with thorns, which combine well with the grapeshot from Gotri's guns.

[ ] PROJECT: Cartographer
Never really been interested in this.

[ ] PROJECT: Offence
Recruitment drives aren't something we have a comparative advantage with vs. other councilors now that we have access to gyrocopters, and we have worse diplomacy as well. This is not where we can be most helpful.

[ ] FIEF: Leave the current and future money be.

We really, really don't need this money. Leave it for re-investment and/or if an emergency of some kind comes up.

[ ] [TOWER] Complete

We were given a year, and we've used it to the utmost and will be able to wildly overdeliver. No sense in continuing at this point.

[ ] PROJECT: Aethyric Vitae
You're reasonably confident that the magical energies Aethyric Vitae can be made to release could fuel powerful runecraft.
[ ] PROJECT: Queekish
Being able to translate Queekish would be a boon for not just the Dwarves, but for all enemies of the Skaven. And you've already made solid progress along this path.

Both of these are rock-solid projects that will let us make major progress in things we wanted to do anyway.

[ ] PROJECT: Skaven Politics
Clan Eshin aren't moving against Clan Mors. Clan Skryre seem happy to skirmish against Clan Mors instead of applying the full might of their technosorcery. Something's not right.

This is a big one - it's potentially really important, and we can file actions spent learning Queekish under this umbrella as well. In fact, to keep option bloat down, and since we've already made enough progress that dedicating a whole project to Queekish is possibly overkill, I'll advocate for including this over "just" the "translate Queekish" option.

[ ] PROJECT: Dragon
Dragons like mountains and treasure. Dwarves like mountains and treasure. There's a long and ugly history there. Maybe you can provide a solution that doesn't cost thousands of lives.

I'm going to very strongly advocate for including this in whatever plan we end up presenting to Belegar. Even if he doesn't select it this turn, knowing that "Mathilde has a crazy Wizard plan for maybe not getting everybody killed fighting a dragon" is valuable information that will inform what orders he gives other people regarding it.

[ ] PROJECT: Karag Mhonar
It's like a bad horror story, except nothing happens to the Rangers that venture in.

And this falls squarely under our jurisdiction, to the point that Belegar will probably have questions if we don't propose letting us have a crack at it. Because it involves needing to scout out a single peak in detail, I think it makes sense to "replace" Project Cartographer with it on Belegar's voting menu.

I won't be able to argue my case properly for this round of voting, since I'll be in the middle of takeoff at the 12 hour mark, but my preferred plan would look something like:

Spending 2 College Favor on a de-smoking item is pretty critical in my opinion, and I like the idea of buying the Bright Lord Magister who adapted our spell a toast. For books, I'd like to see a bunch of books on Dragons, Anatomy, and stuff relevant to the Vitae - probably Power Stones, maybe Physics?

Books on Dragons are extra important if we want to put out that bounty on dragonbones.

I've suggested a favour less spend for dragon books as I don't think we should make this our first priority. Finishing off queekish asap free up our actions more efficiently and opens up space for more all in action spends if needed in the future.
Hopefully the dragon won't wake up next turn if we do this; we don't know how the dragon is being handled, but if I had to guess it's probably something like the Wisdom Asp, and BoneyM rolls a hidden dice to see if it decides to wake up each turn. And while the odds of it happening next turn specifically are probably pretty low, 'pretty low' isn't zero. So I guess the question is, how likely do we think the dragon is to wake up and cause problems, and how long do we think we can risk holding off on making it priority number one?

Not only would we be able to do go work on a Lexicon and thus put effort towards research or self-improvement, it's quite likely to get picked given we've already made solid progress on it.

I'm gonna confine myself to arguing about the Library stuff this turn (see my rundown above) and let other people make their cases for other spending, but I want to remind you all about this:
After the trouble BoneyM went to give us the exact name and price point, I feel it's important that the purchase vote be specific. And it's easy to incorporate into other things!

[][PURCHASE] Firkin of top-quality dwarf ale for LM Olenus (5gc)

[][PURCHASE] Plan: Do The Things
-[] Thing 1
-[] Thing 2
-[] Firkin of top-quality dwarf ale for LM Olenus (5gc)
Every purchase plan had better have this! It's only 5gc and it's a gesture of appreciation for someone who did a good turn for us!

pending 2 College Favor on a de-smoking item is pretty critical in my opinion
I don't think it is, really. Boney has said we can get rid of the smell with a bath, and for scouting, Greenskins don't rely on scent as far as I'm aware, and our scent going from 'human' to 'smoke' is an upgrade when it comes to scouting Skaven. Most people wouldn't become suspicious on smelling smoke, smoke is everywhere.

Oh right it might not be super horrifying... but figuring out what the heck is going on with the Undumgi post Rune magic.

We are already locked into a magic style personally but we all know how mutable humans are.

So I guess the question is, how likely do we think the dragon is to wake up and cause problems, and how long do we think we can risk holding off on making it priority number one?

So I feel it's very unlikely to wake up in the next few turns, but I'm of the opinion we'll need to make it priority one Soon. How soon I couldn't say exactly but dragons are the sort to operate on long time frames I expect the Dragon to continue to be a non-issue until we end up poking it and god damn do we want to make sure we're properly prepared when we do that.

The horror peak can also be left alone. It's not hurting the Rangers so for now it's safe to leave be. Queekish is time sensitive and the earlier we focus on it the better. Skaven politics project is premature, with out being able to properly read or speak queekish correspondence or listen in we can't properly manage it. I agree it's important to know but it's not going to help much if we're not able to actually learn anything of value.

This, basically.

Smelling like smoke in tunnels that largely have torches for illumination is an asset for infiltrating Skaven territories, because it means you smell like the background aroma instead of smell like human.

Anyway, at least two Skaven Undercities purged, that's a good job of work, and evidently it doesn't get traced back to us, even if it cost us some overall Favor for the op.

On the other hand, 2 favour is cheap, having the option of not smelling like smoke while we're out and about in everyday life is nice, and there are situations in sneaking where being able to remove our accumulated scent is useful.

It's important because we're likely to raid Skyre this coming turn having a way to deal with poison gas is a must.

It's not a big deal in Eight Peaks TBH, Mathilde's bathhouse mostly covers it, and the important places are rune-lit instead of torch lit.

You're aware that some might be intimidated by wizards, but between your newly-renovated entrance hall and having Wolf deliver the invitation for Francesco to pop around for a chat at his convenience, you're sure that Signore Caravello will be at ease. Who wouldn't like receiving mail from such a wonderful puppy?

Francesco did not budge from the table he was sitting at as the massive beast approached. It wasn't as large as the Giant Wolves of Ulrikadrin, but it was hard to remember that when he was eye to eye with the creature. It eyed him solemnly for a moment, and then turned its head to reveal the letter tucked into its grey collar. Trying to suppress his nerves, Francesco commanded his arm not to shake as he reached over and pulled the missive free. The animal looked at him with unnatural intelligence, nodded once, and then turned and left.

When he arrived at the top of the very long central staircase, he took a moment to catch his breath and noted the recessed portcullis in the roof and the reinforced steel door that barred entry. As he approached, it swung open noiselessly, and the first thing he noticed was the sinister anti-glow of the steel pillar in the center of the room. Scattered around it as if to demonstrate how little the occupant cared about such a sinister force in the room were shockingly ordinary pieces of furniture, and windows opened on all sides to breathtaking views of the mountains. Among all this, the Wizard of Karag Nar sat elegantly by the hearth, flipping her way through a book filled with Dwarvish runes. Her shadow, stretching across the room by the light of the fire, turned to regard him; several seconds later, the Wizard followed suit, and Francesco noticed she was being orbited by the few wisps of woodsmoke that escaped the Runes of the fireplace's flue.
Wolf is a lot larger than I thought he was if he's eye to eye with a man sitting down
Granted I've seen wolves in person before and they can be pretty huge, so maybe Mathilde's puppy vision is infecting me
Also the unintentionally intimidating meeting invitation and meeting with a Grey Magister who was honestly just trying to be casually professional and welcoming

"It seems," he says slowly, "like it may be Skrhund, the Runes meant for work rather than war. But it uses mechanisms I don't recognize, and we don't remember enough of the Skrhund to know whether they worked the same as the Kazakrhun we still have. If they did, then this cannot be Skrhund, and would instead be the work of the Tainted."

"So what's the next step?" you ask.

"I have sent word to each of the Loremasters and Runelords of the Karaz Ankor, requesting any scrap of information they may have on the Skrhund, no matter how trivial. But if none can tell me one way or the other, I will have no choice but to seal it away."

You wince at the idea of having to cut off a promising line of enquiry because it might have tainted origins, but you understand his caution. Every Apprentice spends weeks hearing the misadventures of their predecessors who thought they had taken enough precautions or thought they were too clever to be caught off-guard, and were proven very wrong. All you can do is clap the Runelord on the shoulder companionably, smile at the scowl he shoots you for doing so, and keep him company as he stares out over the Karak.
Kragg just let us clap him on the shoulder in consolation
...Kragg the Grim, just let us clap him on the shoulder in consolation

"Hard-won, but yes. Konstantin would never allow the Imperial Army within Wissenland, so the Emperor turned his full attention here, and with most of the Battle Wizards off enjoying themselves in Sylvania it fell to the highest echelons to fill the void. Alric's up at the Temple, Mira's seeing to the wounded, and No-Relation Reicthard and Dragomas are still below, ferreting out the last of them." He frowns. "Don't tell Dragomas I said 'ferreting'. He's a bit touchy about that."

You're about to ask him to clarify, but with a faint rumble an enormous creature bursts from the ground, and only Algard's lack of reaction keeps you from trying something desperate and foolish with Branulhune. It seems like an elongated lizard with a moustache, or, yes, like a scaled ferret, and despite its lack of wings it floats through the air with the ease of an eel through the water. It speaks in a surprisingly normal and very familiar voice, "dead-ends on branches 12, 14 and 15. 13 had a chamber with a few holdouts, flag it for searching."

A Lung? Huh, I didn't know Warhammer Fantasy had Eastern style dragons

"It's the flint, m'lady," Rolf says. "Chalk's full of it."

You consider this. "I'd thought we were rather beyond using flint," you say slowly.

"They use it to make some kind of glass."

You stare at him. "Glass?"

"The see-through stuff that they have on the temples in Tarshof," he explains helpfully.

That makes no sense to you, but if there were people buying it, it doesn't have to make sense. You shrug and thank the lad for his hard work, and he blushes, thanks you, gathers up his ledger and flees.

While you were checking the numbering, Rolf's father had arrived, with speed that suggested he must have run but he seems as unperturbed as always. He walks you through the events of the last three years in a slow but terse recital, from the Wild Dog That Was Worrying The Sheep, which was slain with a slingstone, to the Eagle That Almost Got At The Lambs, which was also slain with a slingstone, to the Zombie With One Arm that, as it happens, was also slain by a slingstone. The only problem of late that a sling couldn't solve was a moderate drought two years ago, but no lives were lost due to the well and the flint mine had provided those hit hardest with a way to recover, bypassing the shepherd's doom of needing a herd to make money and needing money to acquire a herd. As far as you understand, in previous years this would result in the poor soul in question travelling to seek work in the lowlands and often never returning.

OK, but
Cleansing Glow: Cleans touched item, unspoils spoiled food or drink.
I'm pretty sure an item of Cleansing Glow, to remove the scent of smoke from our robes, is not going to protect us from poison gas.
Flint Glass, it's a thing, characterized by its luster, clarity and high refractive index
It's a misnomer; the flint has nothing to do with it. Flint glass is just called that because high-quality glass in England used to come from flint as a source of pure silica. What it actually is is leaded glass, often called "crystal" or "crystal glass."

"Well done, Max." He beams.

Today... today, we give out the headpats. A grave responsibility.

You've been watching her out of the corner of her eye and she was about ready to burst. "Great!" she almost yells. "I showed Gotri Flashcook and he's asked me to help him with his prototyping, and in exchange he's teaching me the basics that he says 'Nuln already knows anyway'."

"How does cooking food help with prototypes?" Gretel asks.

"It can boil water too!" Adela shoots back. "They use it the same way steam tanks do."

"To explode?"

You smile as the bickering continues. What a wonderful little empire you've built for yourself.
Loving her enthusiasm.
