A Penguin Flailing Against The Keyboard Of Life.
Grey wizards are almost never acknowledged as heros. Free publicity means free Favors and Fame, both of which Mathilde likes.I'm... not sure using the protector coin is really... worth it? If we are going out and getting into fights and other dangerous things, it seems to me it'd be much more helpful to have 2 +20s to help keep us alive than to just make sure people know we helped them.
The go-to example, I think, would be slaying some horrible monster in the hills that nobody knows about. We'd get the legend of having done so without having to go promote ourself and become known as a braggart trying to get everybody to buy her drinks for slaying some monster nobody's heard of before.
To give a less hypothetical example, if we'd had the effect on before entering Karag Nar (and were okay with letting everybody know), we wouldn't be arguing about how we could convince everybody we poked an evil god in the eye, they would just know. If we're expecting to do equally improbable things, we can flip to the protector for a few months and actually get the credit for all our crazy feats.
Dame Mathilde Weber, with a literally supernatural PR campaign, could become a legendary name, and that sort of thing is how people end up becoming supernatural entities of various intensities after they die.
Yeah, I think it's just an acknowledgement that if we get stuck in the chaos wastes for a decade he isn't going to leave us. Likewise, we aren't going to just stop paying homage to him because we no longer need to in order to get our payout from him; we're friends, and that we continue doing nice things for each other is just what friends do.Personnaly, I saw it as Ranald going: Hey, I'll have your back if you go hero hoboing, and you've prove yourself enough that'll I'll even let you choose what kind of blessing you want.
