Empire Rumor Mill
Large Norscan Fleet Sails…To Estalia??: Yes it's true that the coasts of the Empire are not the only ones targeted by the ravaging and seemingly endless hordes of Chaos, but this year it was never more apparent. Sighted in the dawn of summer this year came a large Norscan fleet that some quaked with fear of due to its size and armament, only for it to sail right out of the Sea of Claws and then right past Westerland. It then continued on, out of sight, until rumors came that the most dis-unified nation in the Old World had come under assault. The coasts of Estalia were ravaged this year by a variety of warbands, all serving some dark entity or another. Historically Estalia has been left largely alone by the forces of Chaos, and so this sudden reversal has greatly confused many. Worse, for the Estalians that is, without a strong unifying force to keep them together and fight off Chaos, they were more than ripe for the picking as they dithered and argued about who should lead resistance efforts. In the end, no one was able to reach the top of the pile, and so for the whole of this year Estalia was defenseless while the Norscans gorged on the land of duelists and passion. Bad for the Estalians, sure, but on the other hand this greatly reduced the pressure of raiders in the Sea of Claws for the Empire, so it all worked out in the end, right?
Beastmen Raids From Drakwald Repulsed: The foolish and abominable creatures known as the beastmen made a fatal mistake this year. Though it has long been known that the Drakwald is essentially the largest hotbed of beastmen in the Empire, no great leaders have arisen among them in some time to properly make use of this. However, this does not preclude them from making raids to destroy villages and attack the walls of smaller cities with their primitive weapons and dark sorcerous magic. This year, a large raiding force set out to presumably spread death and destruction as is their wont, only for them to run into a force of the slowly rebuilding White Wolves. Though the beastmen included in their ranks one of the fearsome and mighty minotaur, they were no match for the ferocious sons of Ulric who sustained comparatively light casualties as they charged down from the sides of the road to slam into the moving warherd. Glory to Ulric! As the Wolf Crusade ended as a nominal success - though they did not actually succeed in their goal of purging all greenskins from the Empire – the recent years have been spent entirely on building the White Wolves up, training them to the highest standard regardless of their blood. Interestingly, the chance for the disaffected or inescapably poor to join up and
fight instead of wallowing in the slums has significantly reduced the actual population of such in the whole of Middenland. Those that cannot manage to become full White Wolves for any reason or another have been relegated to a sub-group that is still connected to the Order, called The Grey. Both groups have done a very admirable job at patrolling Middenland, though the majority of the Drakwald remains as foreboding and impassible as ever with its seemingly infinite beastmen occupants.
Post-Purge Cleansing of Sylvania Continues: It seems that the communal effort of the Cult of Ulric and the Cult of Sigmar has continued as Sylvania continues to be almost savagely purified and consecrated over and over again. Wandering priests of both Gods have arrived from all around the Empire to lend their aid, while donations drawn from the faithful have ensured the building of dozens of shrines large and small to the Gods of the Empire – though Sigmar and Ulric obviously take precedence – including Verena, Shallya, and even Morr thanks to the proselytizing efforts and sheer utility of the servants of the God of Death and Dreams during both the Vampire War of 2315 and the Purging of Sylvania. The dark land of Sylvania
will be brought to heel, even if it takes the combined effort of all of the Empire's faiths and all the fire that can be brought about by the burning of holy light and magical flame. Even now corpses across the territory are still being unearthed, burnt to ash, and then finally thrown to the Sea of Claws such that even said ash will not be present in the Empire. Despite the issues of last year with the Jade Wizards being used in Ostermark in such quantities, a small number of the Jade Order has been contracted out to work over the terribly cursed soil in search of solutions. At the moment, the two Orders that stand most prominently in the Empire in terms of acceptance are the Bright Wizards and Light Wizards – or Hierophants as they apparently wish to be termed. The first lay down continual gouts of flame over every piece of corruption the Witch Hunters and priests find – which is essentially almost all of Sylvania – while the second are working hard every day to lay down purifying and cleansing magic or alternatively enchanting posts with their magic that shall be laid out all along the roads. In truth, this is only possible due to the Cults funding these efforts so well through donations from most of the Elector Counts of the Empire and even the notoriously hard to open coin purse of Westerland.
Graf of Guns, Count of Cannons: The numbers are in. After over a decade of intense diplomacy, trade negotiations, and other sundry things, the sheer number of handguns and cannons present in the Empire, nay, the Old World, has greatly eclipsed what was present before. The one responsible? Not, as some would think, the master of Nuln, previously the only major producer of such things in the Empire. Instead, it was the ravenous pace and speed of Ostland which has done it. Trade with the vast Kingdom of Kislev, trade with the majority of the provinces of the Empire, and having spent tremendous amounts of money on expanding their own production facilities whilst selling a substantial amount of product at reasonable prices – in the case of Kislev and Talabecland
unreasonably good prices, has had people giving the mercurial Count Hohenzollern a new name in acknowledgement of this accomplishment. Though Nuln has done much work as well, the simple fact of the matter is that while the individual quality of their handguns and cannons are purportedly stated by Nulner engineers to be better, there are a much larger number of the same devices bearing the seal of Wulfenburg. While this is certainly good for the Empire, this has done nothing to endear the northern province to its 'elder brother'.
Nordland Creates Second Army: Though it has been many, many years since the defeat of the Daemon Prince Gruber, Nordland has been focused on rearming its people, rebuilding its devastated infrastructure, and strengthening the Imperial Navy under their stewardship. The honorable Count Stephan von Kessel, who has labored long and hard for his people and to prove his worth, and successfully so it simply must be said, has chosen to finally make the decision to create the Second Army of Nordland. Unlike the First, which is dedicated to the coast and guarding the internals of the province, the Second has been placed all along the border with Middenland due to the potential for incursions of beastmen now that the barrier of plague mists have disappeared. Over two dozen forts have been constructed, at great expense, while roads and light cavalry ensure that communication remains strong between them all. Though the Graf of Middenland complained that Nordland was overstepping its borders ever so slightly, a furious set of negotiations that took all the way up to the Elector's Meet itself a slight redraw to the maps was accepted. Considering that Middenland had no real settlements up there in the first place, it is not that unexpected. Some questioned it as a measure to expand the territory of Nordland considering that literally no settlements or humans are allowed in the dark Laurelorn Forest which is known to be under the total control of the Wood Elves there, but the amount of territory gained is essentially negligible in comparison. Some, however, are worried that Count Kessel may have been ensorcelled somehow, given that these efforts will also perfectly protect Laurelorn's borders. With nothing at all able to enter the Forest, who
knows what those strange beings are getting up to?
Great Losses At Sartosa: Once again, this year the various Merchant Princes of Tilea attempted to dislodge and/or conquer the well-known pirate haven of Sartosa. And, once again, they met with failure. Just as many other attempts before, the disunity and even outright sabotage of supposed allies allowed the various pirates of the island to surround, flank, and eventually destroy the Tilean ships sent to try and quell the criminals before them. Worse, although the feared Kaptin Bluddflag has not been seen in the coasts of the Old World for some time, that did and does not mean that there are no more greenskins upon the seas. The Tileans, as they struggled to even land any of their mercenary armies onto Sartosa, were set upon by both bad weather and a small orcish fleet which had no problem leaping upon the decks of Tilean ships regardless of their place of origin. In the end, the devastating losses suffered to the naval might of Tilea means that trade across the Old World is likely to suffer, even worse than it already has due to their famine-related issues.
Knights of the Blazing Sun Save Stirland Villages: Terror arose over the course of several months only to be put down towards the end of the year in the province of Stirland this year. Instead of the more 'usual' monsters of undead varieties that the grim eastern province is used to, it was a warherd of beastmen led by one of their vile shamans that had begun raiding the good folk of the Empire. With the armies of Stirland still so greatly depleted following the victory over the dark inhabitants of Sylvania and the loss of their Count, there were few of the land who were capable of standing up to the warherd which struck many outlying villages and dragged away thousands of citizens for sacrifice and consumption. Until, that is, a small cadre of knights arrived, templars of the mostly foreign war goddess Myrmidia. Organizing militia forces, training more regular men and women, and setting up hasty yet effective defenses, these Knights of the Blazing Sun managed to whittle away the warherd before surrounding and finally destroying it in a fire attack. Following this, the knights then moved on and away before they could be 'properly' congratulated.
Famines In Tilea Begin Affecting Trade: Though there has been some cursory knowledge that the land of Tilea has been suffering its own agricultural difficulties, only now has the true damage begun affecting other nations. Due to the enormous famine striking what may be one of the richest nations in the world, trade all over the Old World has begun being affected. There are simply not merchants moving goods, nor customers to buy them, and as such the flow of coin across multiple sectors of business have slowed or outright failed. Even though the city of Marienburg has outright claimed it can offset the slack, and business has in fact shifted somewhat, the fact of the matter is that the economy of many nations is suffering as a result of their connection to Tilea for various goods of one kind or another.

Sea of Claws Report – 2325: Luckily for the Empire and our new allies in Kislev, the Sea of Claws was remarkably bereft of raiders this year as the Norscans performed the tactically curious measure of holding back their constant yearly raiding in exchange for a single massive burst on the far south nation of Estalia. A fleet of ships that otherwise would have raided all across the Empire, Kislev, and likely even Bretonnia throughout the whole of the year was collected into a single enormous group that then headed to assault the land of the 'conquistadors' – though what the Estalians have ever actually 'conquered' is still up in the air centuries after the nation established itself. As a result, the Sea of Claws was bereft of much damage or destruction for the coasts of the Empire. A good year in all, for everyone! Well, everyone who isn't an Estalian who had to deal with an entire year of Norscans ripping into an entire nation's belly. Honestly, they should just get it over with and
unify all ready, because a nation with every single town and hamlet calling itself 'King' or 'Queen' without anything…well, what does the Empire care for Estalia? All they have is really, really good steel, and even that is hard to get in large quantities.
Elector's Meet of 2325: This was a year of great change for the Empire. Arch Lector Jung of Talabheim attempted to burn Count Hohenzollern of Ostland for heresy and corruption, only for all of Nuln to be stunned as the fires were repulsed by the sheer faith of the Count. Three days of great trials and tests by the greatest of Sigmar and most zealously investigative amongst the Witch Hunters only add to the proven purity of the Count. More, of course, occurred. The signing of the Blue Steel Concordant has bound the nation of Kislev mightily close to the Empire now, again at the behest of Count Hohenzollern, and the effects of the new trade and mutual military exchange, aid, and defense have already begun benefitting the Empire and Kislev alike. The cry of a newborn gryphon was heard in Nuln in the days after the Meet, apparently an egg was granted to the Emperor as a gift by the auspicious leader of Ostland. There is a new Witch Hunter General, there is a new Countess of Stirland, and politically it has been announced that the current Graf of Middenland is intending to retire. Upon doing so, Todbringer shall be succeeded by the brother of Magnus himself. All together the events of this year will likely have great repercussions in the coming days. Still, it is unavoidable that the true star of this meet, though perhaps unwillingly, is Count Hohenzollern, who has steadfastly resisted the now obviously false rumors against him and proven himself eminently to the rest of the Empire.
Reiksguard Victorious In Averland Against Beastmen: The surge of beastmen attacks this year was partially blunted thanks to a reinvigorated Reiksguard and Reiksmarshal Rommel. While in the Drakwald it was the White Wolves, in Averland where a group of centigor had begun rampaging along outlying villages against which no mere militia could fight the Reiksguard fought back and fought back well. A small number of skirmishes reduced the centigor warherd to manageable size, before with expert tactics they were divided and annihilated one piece at a time. Casualties were light, though rebuilding the damage shall take a small amount longer. Still, this bodes well for the Empire that the Reiksguard and their leader are already proving so effective against the various monsters in the borders of our realm. Still, the fact that the new taxes agreed upon in the Elector's Meet are allowing such things is still a bit of a sore spot amongst the common people.
Greenskin Raids Hit Westerland: From the Grey Mountains this year came a flurry of wild raids by goblin wolf riders and the incredibly tough quantity known as orcish boar riders. From the mountains they rode down into the valleys and plains of Westerland, nearly menacing Marienburg itself before defensive forces drove them back. The province, furious at this, marshalled their forces which for the past time since its inclusion into the Empire have gone remarkably undamaged in comparison to their peers to reply in fire and steel. Though the greenskins were pushed back, at some considerable effort from the Westerlanders, now that the blood of the monstrous humanoids is up – and given that Marienburg's forces repelled rather than slew the raiders, it is likely that at some point in the future they will be back. After all, the promise of a fight is more than enough for both orcs and goblins to rally more of themselves. Though the supposed leader of the goblin riders was killed, the orc leader which bore the much darker skins characteristic to the most dangerous of their kind was
not. Styling himself as Gazgan the Pillager, the orc assaulted the hardest targets overall throughout the fights and seemingly came through without any damage at all. The Reiksguard responded immediately, but the greenskins managed to lose their pursuers quite easily once reaching the mountains once again.
Kislev Rumor Mill
Pantheon Revival?: Tzarina Kattarin has begun in her next great work for the land of Kislev – enflaming the piety and passion in the hearts of her land. While the construction of the Widow's Cradle is still ongoing, she and the Ice Mages of Kislev have begun proselytizing for a religious 'reawakening' of the people, specifically with regards to the nearly forgotten Gods of Kislev, such as Ursus, Tor, and Dazh. She has stated that given unto her by the Ancient Widow in visions she has seen that these three and the Ancient Widow are all related, for the Ancient Widow is the mother of Ursun, Tor, and Dazh. They are her children, and they have been too long forgotten, too long without knowing the joining and embrace of their mother. New temples are being constructed immediately under the Tzarina's orders, across all of Kislev in their proper places where they are meant to be according to what scripture of these three God's remain. While some see nothing wrong with this, there are whispers of discontent amongst the eldest of the Ice Hags, the women who train the Ice Mages through mysterious and strange ceremony. Previously ecstatic at the growth of the worship of the Ancient Widow, some do not seem to agree in the inclusion of the Widow's Sons, as the Tzarina and Prophet of the Ancient Widow states. One can only hope that these magical titans of frost and wind do not come into conflict with one another, not when Kislev is just starting to get into a proper rhythm of rebuilding.
Gryphon Legion vs. Greenskins: The aftermath of the Great War Against Chaos continues to damage our great nation despite being many years past. The damage to infrastructure, while being rebuilt by the will and dangerously wavering coffers of the Tzarina, has not yet fully been fixed. However, one of the greatest detriments to such desperately needed work has finally been found to be the target of the noble Gryphon Legion which continues to be fully present in Kislev for the first time in generations. Rarely ever has the whole of the Gryphon Legion been in Kislev at once rather than working as mercenaries across the world, but ever since being recalled a few years ago they have remained as the great and powerful cavalry-based fist of the Grand Army of Kislev. Greenskins, ever a problem along the borders of eastern Kislev due to the World's Edge Mountains, have found themselves targeted by the Gryphon Legion, who this year cut down hundreds of savage goblin wolf riders and bestial orc boar riders. This was not all of them, of course, but the Gryphon Legion, led by Andre Romanov, son of the Tzarina, struck quite a hearty blow to the accolades of many. For all that tensions continue to rise against the Tzarina from multiple quarters, the Gryphon Legion remains steadfast in their dedication to the protection of Kislev as a whole.
Lady Annushka Gone Missing: It is not entirely uncommon for people to go missing in the Oblast, for in the long,
long stretches between the bastions of civilization there are dozens of things that can lay even the mightiest army low. Starvation, lack of water, supplies, the elements, greenskins, Kurgan raiders, trolls, wild animals, and more. But of those who walk the roads of Kislev, the Ice Mages are
meant at least to be immune to such things due to their connection to The Land. But after several months, the fact of the matter is that Lady Annushka of Praag has gone missing. One of the largest political opponents to Tzarina Kattarin, her mysterious disappearance has put increased scrutiny on the increasingly precarious position of the so called 'Chosen of the Widow', despite staunch denials from Kislev City. One of the more powerful Ice Mages in Kislev, Lady Annushka was noted for travelling along a western road to Erengrad which skirted dangerously close to Troll Country – at which point the noble lady would often stop to cull as many dangerous creatures as she could with the aid of her House's sworn soldiers. However, the idea that anything within Troll Country could possibly defeat Lady Annushka or her thousand guards is utterly preposterous, and so many Boyars whisper that it simply
must have been the Tzarina.
Tensions Rising: Though the Tzarina's support in the third of Kislev under the responsibility of the capital city is ironclad, her recent actions for the past few years have brought many a concern amongst the Boyars, who reign over the rest of Kislev in the majority. Through blood and fear she claimed Erengrad and the support of the now Prince Romanov, and she personally appointed the Governor of Praag. However, the spaces between, the areas that make up most of Kislev, are owned by the Boyars. While a small core of the wealthiest and most powerful nobles in the nation beneath the Royal Family
do in fact support the Tzarina, the greater majority have raised concerns for a good long while now over her increasing centralization of power. Land that was traditionally owned by noble families is now under the personal ownership of the Romanovs, including the majority of the southern farmlands – the only
real farmlands of the Empire. Worse, her aggressive actions towards Erengrad and removing the mostly sovereign system of Merchant Princes by way of massacre have raised even more fears. People now whisper of war on the horizon, of
civil war. Her increasing ties to outsiders, a reversal of her previous position of 'Kislev stands strong alone' to which the vast majority of Boyars actually agreed with, is yet
another strike against her. Should the Tzarina continue on her course, she may see much of Kislev rise up against her, a situation that no Tzar or Tzarina has had to deal with in centuries. The common people, on the other hand, are simply terrified of their nation tearing itself apart.
Karaz Ankor Rumor Mill
Karak Azul Reclaims Karak Azgal: Greatly concerned over the change wrought to the land which is now known as the Bonelands; the King of Karak Azul, the young King Kazador undertook a mighty expedition from his home of Karak Azul to reclaim the long lost hold of Karak Azgal. Lost thousands of years ago to the long dead Graug the Terrible before a band of dawi lead by a dwarf named Skalf slew the beast, little effort had been made to reclaim to lost Karak up until now. Long infested with battling greenskins and even some skaven, the recent withdrawal of so many skaven from the Badlands entirely coupled with the reduction of most of the greenskins in the Badlands to Savage Orcs – albeit intimidatingly grown and oversized Savage Orcs – obviously requires closer observation. The opportunity to strike grudges from the Great Book of Grudges only helped things along, for it is well known that the dwarf Skalf Dragonslayer skinned the great beast and made a magical banner from its hide with the rune knowledge available to them at the time. However, Skalf lost the banner to a goblin raid long ago which slaughtered the self-proclaimed King of Karak Azgal and his meagre village. Advancing under the cover of night, young Kazador and his Throng simultaneously recovered the banner, amazingly well preserved despite being so long under greenskin care, while pushing out the rest of the greenskins within the Karak. Making use of the richest veins of iron in the World's Edge Mountains – the veins that only Karak Azul has access to – and the expertly crafted rune engraved armors and weapons by a highly skilled Runesmith growing in prominence named Thorek Ironbrow, Karak Azgal's defenses have been rebuilt with the speed and efficiency that only us dwarves could manage, with many of the tunnels beneath being given extra reinforced defenses and guards. From within the vaults of Karak Azgal King Kazador has found numerous ancestral treasures and weapons, not to mention a fair amount of loot gained from thousands of years of goblin hoarding. After separating out the trash and poop, the haul was still quite considerable. Many accolades to King Kazador for recovering one of our lost Holds, and better for closing off the passes with use of runework and engineers so that Karak Azgal can no longer be approached from the Bonelands save for one single passage that shall be
heavily worked upon. A path back through the underbelly of the mountains to Karak Azul is already beginning construction.
Throng of Everpeak Readies To March: 2326, as the humans would call the year, approaches. With it, our efforts to reclaim Karak Ungor, the first Hold to ever fall to the greenskins in the history of our people, shall go forward. None but the dwarves can understand the significance of this campaign, the victory that awaits, and the terrible, terrible blow it would be to fail yet again. Some of the richest veins in our realm lay there, bared for the world to see, and some of the oldest and greatest works were lost with its fall. Records have fallen fallow, but who knows what treasures yet remain, for even though Karak Ungor was the first Hold to ever fall to the greenskins there is little doubt that our greatest vaults and secret treasuries remain safe. After all, though much knowledge of runes has been lost in these days, Karak Ungor was created when we were at our strongest point, and the secrets of its depths have never been fully plumbed by any force, for none could or can today. So we begin our final preparations, and at soon, the Throng of Everpeak, drawn from across Karaz Ankor shall make its way there, joining with the Throng of Karak Kadrin, the Throng of the manling province of Ostermark, and
potentially the Throng of Ostland – home of Frederick von Hohenzollern, the manling who outdrank Josef Bugman.
New Orc Leaders In The Bonelands: There is no sign of the fearsome and terrifyingly competent Gorebash, nor the infamous and disturbingly clever Kaptin Bluddflag, nor even the impossibly ancient and powerful Wurrzag. However, the lands that are now known as the Bonelands for the sheer amount of deaths brought about by the seemingly innumerable skaven and greenskin races coming into full scale combat with one another cannot remain silent for long. A duo of orcs marched through Death Pass with a small smattering of Big 'Uns, all dressed in actual armor that was beaten into a faint bit of uniformity and effectiveness by unknown sources. Uruk and Thraka, as they are known, are strangely quiet for orcs when not in battle. Though coming from nowhere, their size is already comparable to the 'oversized' Savage orcs which populate the Bonelands. The greater majority is observably enlarged compared to records as before due to the incredible diet of violence they feasted upon before Gorebash left, but these 'twin' Big Bosses are already showing themselves to be of considerable threat. Instead of allowing the Savage Orcs to remain as they are, Thraka and Uruk have begun smashing the smallest of the hundreds of disparate tribes in the Bonelands together and then violently enforcing changes to their entire ways of thinking. Rangers are already planning assassination missions, though given the strange intelligence these two orcs are showing cynics are unsure if the efforts will bear fruit. Already they have cobbled together thousands of thousands of savage orcs – though they are also beating said 'savage' orcs into 'propa' orcs – and plenty more goblins besides.
