Now, I get why people are voting for Nordland, because us just chugging along doing whatever's mostly worked. Just an update ago, we rolled a 1/1000 chance and then a 97, which was an abnormally high roll. But, Nordland's not going to surprise us. Our friend won't come up and say, "Guess what, I'm pregnant!" (I'm being silly, since he's a guy) And we won't act shocked. He also won't declare a new initiative to revolutionize the world. It said right in the text that we've been exchanging letters with him. Nothing new will be said, we'll just be saying the old things to each other's faces, which might help clarify if there are any rough patches, but let's *not* enter the defensive portion of our career, okay?

Like, with politicians seeking votes, their career can be described in two stages. Expansionist, and Protectionist. In the Expansionist stage they try to get all the voters they can, since they need to win re-election. In the Protectionist stage they say, "Bah, we can't get their votes anyways" and focus on trying to make sure all of their allied voters/etc stick to the program and don't jump ship during the Primaries or anything. Two stages is inevitable, because people have political careers besides getting elected, and if you have 65% of the electorate sewed up, there's a strong disincentive to exhaust yourself trying to increase that margin to 70%.

And in some ways, this Elector Count thing is 'voting politics' writ very, very small. We already have Nordland's vote and support for just about anything (that we would rationally do, that's always a corollary, but it's not an important one, since Freddy's the sort who does what he says, and says what he'll do) as with the rest of the 'Northern Alliance.' But that's not enough to get our way in the votes, we need to bring in more than just the Moot, and while I don't think Stirland will be a *steady* ally, a vote that's all but guaranteed, we do have *some* things held in common, even if we're never going to agree on matters of the Moot. Sounding them out politically, as well as learning how strong and determined their opposition to the Moot is, is very important.

It may be the difference between someone who will vote against anything the Moot votes for no matter what (in which case we need to know this before we assume they'll be rational) and someone who will carefully judge each vote and thus might be able to be swayed on a specific topic.

This was longer than I thought, but for all of these reasons I urge that the Countess is the higher priority. Nordland's not going to jump ship or be offended that we're talking to the Countess, so there's no need to worry in that respect. Nordland is not a priority right now, we know what they're talking about and what they're going to say to a large extent. I mean, it may be important, but we *will* have time to talk to them later. We might even get together with them after the Meet for a drink to discuss it, if need be. Stirland, on the other hand, might become our implacable enemies in the meantime, if we go in half-cocked.

And yes, there is a difference between 'people who won't always vote the way we want' and 'implacable enemies.' Stirland is certainly the former, but they don't *have* to be the latter.

Bros first. The secret to a lasting alliance is keeping it up consistently.

If we signal that we have something urgent to talk to him before a Meet, he would do it, so should we

Poor Roland. I hope coming with us finally leads him to the Grail.

Gotta see what our bro wants to talk about.

I have faith in Roland, that and we should give an end to his quest. Anymore and he probably wont live long enough.

[X] Accept Sir Roland,

Hero unit. Potential character. Potentially somebody willing to buy a doomsphere(or guns/cannons if he's from a coastal area or if his land seeks to upgrade their peasant levy).

We have a low diplomacy and we don't even know her name.

Better not risk pissing her off at the onset. Do it at a latter date perhaps?
