Want to know how I know you don't know much about the HRE?
Elector Counts are important and written-in to the whole tapestry of both the HRE and the Empire. You don't just get rid of them. At 'best' we'd install an in-law in that position and have it as a puppet, but absorbing them means getting rid of an Elector position, which is totally not kosher at all.
Why do people act like every attempt to play at internal politics is tantamount to attempting to assassinate the Emperor?
Speaking of which @torroar what exactly is the cause of the lack of clear succession between Ludenhof's kids? Is there an issue with what would typically be the traditional heir? Who's currently holding the Runefang either?
Ouh boy.Two brothers born quite close together are the major issue. The Runefang is in contention.

Diplomacy 6, hero(example) of the empire.
We should be morally better than the others.
So even when we are playing the next thing to an atheist we still and up playing a saint.
Just wait for it to get sorted out and then we fix up the land afterwards. You're like all expecting the situation in Hochland resolves itself somehow magically. If we do nothing we can expect an internecine civil war right on the other side of the river.
Which gives us the perfect opportunity to intervene anyway.
There is a huge difference between Hochland and Norland after all. Nordland did have a legitimate leader who had the respect of his people and wasn't the traditional enemy of our family. Hochland has a leader who's lost legitimacy with his people, is dying and has no secure heir.
I believe one of our boys are gonna end up in charge...I'm sure the twins can co-op the matter of succession, unless of course they don't want to.
Hopefully our boys can inherit some of their mother's charm...

You realize we would be doing this mostly so the people of one of our neighboring provinces can have pace with any advantages we may gain being secondary?

Why the hell can't Luftdorf just appoint his successor and spare everyone the drama. He's still alive enough to do it as he's clearly alive enough to complain about things we do.Two brothers born quite close together are the major issue. The Runefang is in contention.

We also accept their refugees.

That's immoral as hell. We are a hero of the Empire! We can spare the people of Hochland that civil war! We are better than this
/two can play this game
No, it means we play to strengthen the empire and, if we get rewarded from this, use said goodwill to buy us things like the Imperial approval of our gunnery school or getting something like the Foot again.
Just because we don't follow a god doesn't mean we can't be the hero the empire needs.

We'll need to create family unity here.
Er, no, two can't. Not when the second one is pushing for annexation without a casus belli.
He can still give orders to the remnants of his army to stay out of his country when we want to help so his words are still listened to.
