Just Me
Created by Legendary Pictures, they've released the trailer below.

I don't actually know that much about the games other than the basics of the setting and the trailers for WoW, but it looks like it could be good...?

It's coming out in June next year.

Well it got me interested, despite me not knowing anything about Warcraft whatsoever. This movie apparently takes place during way back when Blizzard was licensed to make Warhammer Fantasy their own RTS and pre-anything WoW.

So Warcraft and WoW fans, does this trailer get a yay or nay?

The trailer feels very 'Hollywood' to me, which isn't much of a criticism I guess, but it's so very typical that it fails to interest me on that level.

As a Warcraft fan though... I have been waiting for a very long time for this. I can see the bits and pieces that don't track with the lore I grew up with, and I'm fine with that since not everything is going to translate to the big screen.

Colour me cautiously optimistic. If it's good then it will finally have broken the almighty Game Movie curse. If it's bad... eh, I'll be out twenty bucks.

I still think that Blizzard should've just thrown money at their cinematic department and got them to do it all though. :p

Considering this is apparently getting its own version of canon, there's probably going to be a number of differences besides any we can already see.

Yeah, that's what I figured, it's basically the same as with Marvel's comics continuities and its movie's continuities. Similar but different. It's for the best I think. New people can get exposed without being drowned in lore, lore nerds can watch it and see how things go differently this time.

Word from Blizzcon is that they're using the movie as a chance to clean up the really old lore, since it's been over twenty years since the original game was made.

As I commented in the main Warcraft thread:
The orcs look uncanny and not in a good way. I think making the humans mostly live action and the orcs mostly CGI was a mistake, they should've stuck to all live action outside of big battle scenes, or all CGI. I'd prefer the latter, as its what Blizzard is known for.
It kind of reminds me of The Good Dinosaur previews, wherein differing art styles with varied levels of detail clash dissonantly.

The gryphons are pure awesome though. Wonder if the races that only showed up in canon during Warcraft II will make an appearance though.

I'm kind of hopeful. The fact that it seems like the good orcs will side with the alliance while the Horde itself seems to be portrayed as evil has me cautiously optimistic, if they have to show the orcs as being good that seems like the best way to do it.

It looks good so far, though since I never touched the game i almost know nothing except what I've learned from playing Hearthstone doesn't say much. Personally I am waiting until the second trailer is released before judging it a bit.

Hopefully they can capture the spirit and feel of Warcraft in this movie. I'd hate for them to end up making it feel like a generic fantasy story.

I went with friends who know stuff about Warcraft as a civilian interested in how bad of a train wreck it would be. I was pleasantly surprised, once the human side of the story stopped being 'go to place and deliver/receive exposition' anyway. It's not a great innovative film and some of the effects were... not the best, but I enjoyed it and I would recommend it.

Like... why did the film give any focus to captain angsty pauldrons anyway? He was dull as dishwater, adorkable-mage-guy was by far better to watch and empathise with. But... maybe that's what they were going for? I dunno.

If there's a sequel of equal or better quality I'd go see it. Even if I can't remember character names other than Medivh... or however you spell it :V

Well Captain Angsty Pauldron as you called him is most likely going to end up being martyred at the final battle of the war after being slain by the Orcish leader if the story follows the lore closely enough.

I'm hoping they do the Arthas storyline properly. The parade was the only real wham moment of the series that I remember.

This movie is making enough money to warrant a sequel so that's good. I played the games so is it good if you're a game played? I heard the Orc side is superior to the humans in terms of narrative.
