Warcraft: Fallen Kingdoms (Old)

Omake - Corin´s Crossing - Scarlet Defender
Omake - Corin's Crossing

Random Scarlet Defender #652

The job was to hold the line. It would be done.
The monstrosities were determined though, and kept sending their hordes at us.
Again and again and again. Cut left, Cut right, block repeat.

*Crash*

Looking up you spot an abomination breaking into your fellows, cutting several down within seconds. You charge the monstrosity. You must do your job. For whats left of your country, For whats left of your family, and for REVENGE.

You stab at the abomination keeping your shield up but it doesn't help. The shield cracks and you go flying. But you refuse to give up. Your only duty left is to hold the line and it shall be done. Standing up, your shield arm mangled you prepare to charge the mindless beast again.

You charge at the abomination again only to be knocked down along the way by a wayward spell.

Lying on the ground battered and bloody, the spell was a near miss but still had enough force to knock you down and sap your remaing strength. You couldn't charge again, hell you couldn't even get up. The only left to do was wait, until you are rescued, until a healer can see to you, or until you die. You shudder, to die here would mean you might be forced to rise again and fight your fellows but you have no options you can't even stand.

Then you hear it the stomping of feet, the clatter of armor, reinforcements. But for who?

Looking up just in time to spot the princess cutting down the abomination that slaughtered your fellows and almost killed you. Your lord, your leader, your Princess! Her sword glowing silver cleaving effortlessly through the undead hordes where you had struggled to simply hold the line.

You cry out, "It´s the Princess, the Princess saved us!"

For this is the truth again that beautiful lass has saved us. She built this kingdom while the old fell around us and now she saves us again in battle against the unholy creatures that wrought that destruction.

And for her, you will stand again. For her it is your duty. For her you will hold the line!

Turn 5

Entering your office after a long day of parades, speeches and noble balls, you will be glad when you can slip into more comfortable wear and shoes, but you can´t help but be happy, it seems that taking Corin´s Crossing has proven to the people that the Scourge can be beaten, you can still hear some celebration in the street.

After you have changed your clothes you sit down at your desk and start working on the paperwork that has built up during the last couple of days, but it is not long before a knock is heard from the door and Brigitte's voice follow it.

"I have the reports from Invar and Isillien, Princess." Brigitte says as you give permission for her to enter. You motion for her to continue. "The assassin sent after you was found carrying an emblem, Invar has sketched it for you."

Brigitte gives you a roll of paper, opening it you can see a emblem that is unknown to you.

"Invar believes that this is the emblem of Scholomance, the necromancer school in the Western Plaguelands, but he doesn´t know why they would send an assassin so far east from their position, of course it could be a misleading piece of evidence, to divert our attention from the real culprit, Invar will look into it when he has the men and resources to spare."

"Isillien on the other hand has finished with his plans for the funerals, this will take up almost all of his free time and he will be unable to continue his lessons with you for this month."

"Good, thank you for informing me, now get us something to eat and drink, I want to hear what you have been up to." You say as you rise from your desk and move over to the small dining table. Morale increases for all factions, Faction opinion increased for Scarlet Crusade and Refugees.

Military: Saidan Dathrohan has been appointed the Grand Crusader, the one in charge of all military matters with Highlord Alexandros Mograine and High General Richard Abbendis as his subordinates. They have given you a report on the state of the military and the options that are open to you. They have also appointed Brigitte Abbendis as your bodyguard. (Pick 3)

Rebuild Our Forces: We took heavy losses in the battle for Corin´s Crossing and we will need to recover our troop numbers as soon as possible. Luckily we have enough armor and weapons available to let us outfit enough troops to return to pre-battle condition, though it will take time to train the troops to an acceptable level. Cost: 5,000. Time: 4 Month. Chance for Success: 90% Reward: Scarlet Defenders, Crusaders and Archers restored to pre-battle numbers.

Examine The Battle: We took unacceptable losses in the battle for Corin´s Crossing, we need to know what mistakes we made and what worked and didn´t work, so that we will be better prepared in future engagement, it will take some time to gather the information. Cost: 1,000. Time: 2 Month. Chance for Success: 80% Reward: Knowledge on mistakes made in battle.

Build Defenses at Corin´s Crossing: Now that we have taken Corin´s Crossing we are not about to lose it again and while we are not under threat of an immediate attack it is better to be safe than sorry and build defenses to give us an advantage in battle. Cost: 2,000. Time: 2 Month. Chance for Success: 80% Reward: Basic defenses at Corin´s Crossing.

Build a Tower at Corin´s Crossing: While we are protected by towers both in the north and west they can be taken out quietly, building a tower in the vicinity of the town will not only let us see an attack come from distance, it will also make the civilians in the town feel safer. Cost: 2,000. Time: 2 Month. Chance for Success: 90% Reward: Tower at Corin´s Crossing, Tower Upkeep -1,000

Scout - Stratholme: The only place that you haven´t got any information on is Stratholme and the area in front of it, not knowing what the Scourge is doing in their main base could be fatal. You also want to know what the Trolls have been fighting in the north.
Cost: 500. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 50% Reward: Information on Stratholme and the area in front, Information on what the trolls have been fighting.

Rebuild Crown Guard Tower: Now that we control Crown Guard Tower it would be a good idea to rebuild it, and with Corin´s Crossing under our control it will be both easier and safer to transport the needed material, it will also let us expand the defenses in the west.
Cost: 1,500. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 70% Reward: Crown Guard Tower will be better defended, Easier for patrols to the west, Outpost Upkeep becomes Tower Upkeep -1,000 Tower Upkeep.

Cost: 1,500. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 70% Reward: Eastwall Tower will be better defended, Easier for patrols to the north, Outpost Upkeep becomes Tower Upkeep -1,000 Tower Upkeep.

Expand Patrols – Thondroril River: Once we expand the patrols to Thondroril River we have covered the western approach of the Eastern Plaguelands, once the area is secured we can either build defenses at the bridge to try and hold it against any assault on it or we can start to prepare for a push further into the Western Plaguelands, thanks to getting Corin´s Crossing under our control it will be easier to transport the material needed out west, though the Fungal Vale will still be danger to any caravan.
Cost: 500. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 70% Reward: Control over the bridge into Western Plaguelands, Can Expand into Western Plaguelands, 400 Refugees each Month patrols are out, Patrol Upkeep -500.

Return the Patrols: You can at any time order the Patrols to return to the City, whether it is because it costs too much, the Scourge are massing for an attack or you don´t have enough food or space for more refugees.
Cost: 0. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 100% Reward: No more Patrol Upkeep, no more refugees, more soldiers for attack or defense.

Diplomacy: You are smart, beautiful and able to charm almost everyone you meet, is there any wonder why you have taken over the diplomatic aspect of the Crusade? (Pick 1)

Light´s Hope Chapel: Contacting the people at Light´s Hope Chapel would be a good idea, more soldiers and people is always good and getting the Chapel under our control would allow us to use it as a outpost.
Cost: 500. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 95% Reward: Contact with the people at Light´s Hope Chapel.

Refugees - Injured: The Refugees needs help with their wounded, helping them will cause more able bodied men and women to be available in the future, it will also lessen the strain on the refugees supplies.
Cost: 500. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 85% Reward: No injured refugees, refugees are grateful.

Send a Message - Stormwind: When it was clear that the Capital had fallen, many people thought that Lordaeron was lost and fled, the navy took as many refugees and soldiers they could carry before they fled towards Stormwind. We need those ships and troops, therefore it has been proposed that we send a messenger to Stormwind to order them home. It will be very dangerous and there is no guarantee that it will succeed, but the payoff cannot be ignored.
Cost: 0. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 100% Reward: A message is sent to Stormwind.

Stewardship: You are a Genius and nowhere has that been more apparent than now, seeing you quickly and efficiently going through piles of reports and paperwork concerning every little thing in running the realm is awe-inspiring. (Pick 1)

Expand The Scarlet Enclave: While the small farming community, now called The Scarlet Enclave, has helped with the food situation, you still need more, both now and in the future. With the success last month you have decided that the next expansion will turn the community into a small town, though this will empty your ore supply.
Cost: 10,000. Time: 4 Month. Chance for Success: 80% Reward: The Scarlet Enclave becomes a small town, +1,500 Farming Income.

Rebuild Corin´s Crossing: Now that Corin´s Crossing is under our control we can start rebuilding it, it will take time and money but getting the town up and running will relieve the pressure of our ever expanding Refugee Camp. Cost: 8,000. Time: 3 Month. Chance for Success: 80% Reward: Corin´s Crossing rebuilt, alleviate housing problems.

We Need Mines: Now that we have the location of the ores we only have to start the mining operations, luckily thanks to your genius you were able to hash out a plan to plan to open up a mine that will encompass all ores, instead of opening up several mines for each ore, which would take unnecessary time and money. Cost: 2,000. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 90% Reward: Iron, Tin and Copper Mine open, No more Ore problems, +1,500 Mining Income.

Fish for Everyone: There are plenty of fish in the ocean and making a fishing dock would increase your food supply, it would also let you start building boats for various purposes, of course we would need to make sure the fish is not infected with the Plague first.
Cost: 1,000. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 90% Reward: A Small Dock, +500 Fishing Income.

Royal Investment: An idea has come to you, while for most part every plan you and the council has decided on has worked, with a few exceptions, it is only time until one of them fail spectacularly and damage what you are fighting for, and to prevent this from happening you have fallen back on an old idea, throw money at it until it works. Cost: 0. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 100% Reward: Can do Royal Investment (RI), Explained Below.

Intrigue: Now that you have a spymaster in the form of Invar and a small spy network, Invar is able to take on some projects. (Pick 1)

Search For Sabotage: When the Cultists escaped/were rescued last month we did a quick search of the city and found no further signs of sabotage, but that does not mean there were none, a thorough search of the city under better conditions would be for the best. Cost: 1,000. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 70% Reward: Knowledge of any Sabotage.

Expand the Network: While the spy network is able to handle the affairs in your city, for now at least, and even spare some spies for infiltration, it is unable to do any real operations against your enemies, expanding the network will allow you to interfere with the situation in the north and sabotage the Scourge equipment.
Cost: 2,000. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 80% Reward: Can launch covert attacks against your enemies.

Infiltrate - Noxious Glade: We need information on the Scourge Base north of Light´s Hope Chapel, now called The Noxious Glade, knowing the troop numbers and equipment that they have there will be vital in case of an attack.
Cost: 1,000. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 60% Reward: Information on Noxious Glade.

Infiltrate - Fungal Vale: We also need information on the Scourge Base north of Crown Guard Tower, now called The Fungal Vale, knowing what the Scourge have placed there will be important so that we are not blindsided by an attack.

Learning: With both a Research Leader and a Research Building you can finally start researching the heavier projects. (Pick 1) Locked

Field Ballistae: Manned by a small crew of two people, the Field Ballista is meant to take out less-fortified targets and does not have the power to take down walls or well-fortified structures. With steel-tipped bolts able to impale multiple enemies before stopping, it would be a good weapon against the Scourge. Aldan has some future designs for different types of Ballistae if the Field Ballistae proves successful
Cost: 3,000. Time: 3 Month. Chance for Success: 60% Reward: Can produce Field Ballistae.

Human Guns: Aldan has a few designs in mind for a gun tailored to be used by humans, given the funds he can make prototypes of the designs and work out any flaws that exists before showing the finished products.

The second explosive is called Dynamite, while more stable than TNT, and can take more abuse, it contains poisonous material that makes it unsuited for use in home territory, therefore Aldan has made it more suitable for sabotage, as it is more durable than TNT our saboteurs can safely carry it into hostile territory without having to worry about accidents happening.

We will need to open up workshops to start producing these explosives. Reward: Two types of Explosives, Can open up workshops for Explosives.

Cost: 0. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 50% Reward: No accidental activation of the Silver Glow. Required: 50. Rolled: 97 Crit!

-You glare at the sword in your hand, for weeks you have tried to control when the Silver Glow appears, but you haven´t had any luck so far, sometimes it doesn´t appear for a whole day and sometimes it happens several time a day. It is starting to really frustrate you, but it is not all hopeless, over the past few days you have started to feel when the Glow appears, you just haven´t had any luck in stopping it or making appear at will.

You look over the beautiful sword, forged form an unknown metal, the blade looks as though it is made from silver, starting from the hilt where the silver mixes with a red metal to create a beautiful combination, going up a third of the blade before the silver takes over and continues to the point of the sword, red symbols adorn the blade, starting from the hilt where the red metal ends and stops at the point, unfortunately it seems that time has worn on the sword, not all symbols are filled with red and are just empty engravings.

Running your finger over the sharp edge, which hasn´t dulled no matter what you have done to it, you don´t even feel the wound that appears and starts bleeding, removing your finger you look it over before ignoring it and looking at the blood running down the blade, as the blood run over the engravings a weak red light start to shine from them, as more and more engravings gets filled with blood they start to shine brighter, looking at your wounded finger you draw it over the empty engravings, as soon as all the engravings are filled with blood the red light grow strong, almost blinding you before disappearing, showing that the engravings are filled in but your blood is gone.

Having an idea of what happened you decide to focus on the feeling that the Silver Glow brings and you can feel it respond and Clarent starts to glow silver, slashing at the training dummy the sword goes through it with no problem, grinning at the fact that you managed to figure out how to use the Silver Glow whenever you want and to the fact that you have gotten another weapon in the fight to restore Lordaeron, but even now you feel yourself being steadily drained of mana, not enough that you can´t keep it up for a while, but enough that you can´t keep it up for a whole battle. Feeling giddy you dismiss the Glow and walk away to find the others and show them what you discovered. Reward: Can activate Clarent when you want, Clarent: +8 Martial, +4 Diplomacy, +2 Piety, Bonus against All forces when activated.

Turn 6
June 27 AFW (After First War)

Turn 6

Right now you are watching the new recruits train, trying to see if any of them stand out from their peers, hearing footstep you turn your head to see Abbendis walk towards you, clad in full armor.

"Princess." He says with a slight bow. "Watching over the new recruits?"

"Yes, I´m looking for anyone standing out, though with them having only a months of training I´m not expecting much, I will be coming to look periodically in the coming months." You say before looking over at him. "And what are you doing?"

"I´m on my way to a spar with my daughter, I want to see how she has progressed with her training." Abbendis looks over the recruits. "They will be up to par when their training is completed, or I will take drastic actions."

New Refugees: 1400+[75+88+10+65+80+71]=1789-500(Integration)=1289

New Low Class Citizens: 500

Military: Saidan Dathrohan has been appointed the Grand Crusader, the one in charge of all military matters with Highlord Alexandros Mograine and High General Richard Abbendis as his subordinates. They have given you a report on the state of the military and the options that are open to you. They have also appointed Brigitte Abbendis as your bodyguard. (Pick 1)

Time: 3 Month. Chance for Success: 90% Reward: Scarlet Defenders, Crusaders and Archers restored to pre-battle numbers. Required: 10. Rolled: 49

-The training continues at a steady pace, so far there hasn´t been any major accidents. Will be completed next month.

Chance for Success: 80% Reward; Knowledge on mistakes made in battle. Required: 20. Rolled: 37

-Abbendis has sent in the reports about the examination of the battle, there are several detailed and in depth reports to read but it can be summarized as this.

Scarlet Archers: Regular arrows were useless against skeletons, banshees and abominations and had limited effectiveness against zombie and ghouls, I suggest investing in heavier arrows against skeletons, zombies and ghouls and flame arrows against abominations, I asked our mages for ideas to use against the banshees and they suggested that we use enchanted arrows against them, unfortunately we don't have that kind of expertise amongst our mages.

Scarlet Defenders: I would suggest that we change their weapons, exchanging their swords to spears and pikes, letting them keep their distance from the enemy and preventing them from taking so many casualties, and while they may not be as effective at killing the enemy that isn´t their job, it is to hold the line.

Scarlet Crusaders: Keep them behind the main line and when the enemy meets the Defenders the Crusaders should move out to flank the enemy, pining them in place and letting us hack them apart.

Scarlet Knight: Use them like we did, to flank the enemies ranged units.

Scarlet Mages & Priests: Keep a few Defenders with them to protect against the enemies projectiles, the mages should focus on the enemies mages and abominations, while the priests focus on healing the wounded.

Scarlet Paladins: A small number on horseback to help the knights and the rest split between the main line to help against the abominations and the rest with the Crusaders to help flank.

The main mistake that was made was that we didn´t really have anything that could stop the abominations without taking heavy losses, as our mages were busy with countering the enemies spells and the Paladins were off luring the enemy to attack us, but didn´t return before the enemy attacked. Reward: Learned of how to improve army combat.

Build Basic Defenses at Corin´s Crossing: Now that we have taken Corin´s Crossing we are not about to lose it again and while we are not under threat of an immediate attack it is better to be safe than sorry and build defenses to give us an advantage in battle.
Cost: 2,000. Time: 1 Month. Chance for Success: 80% Reward: Basic defenses at Corin´s Crossing. Required: 20. Rolled: 5 Crit Fail!

-The work started fine, with our soldiers guarding them our workers started to build up the defenses, barricades went up and so did a palisade, but it was when we were half done with our work that tragedy struck.

The ground collapsed, bringing down buildings and workers alike, when the soldiers arrived they discovered that someone had dug a series of networks underneath the town, the casualties list were large with ninety workers losing their life, searching the tunnels reveal that ghouls had dug the tunnels, but it seems that they perished in the collapse.

This accident will set us back as we will need to refill the tunnels and holes that appeared, making repairing the town cost more and be more time consuming because of the buildings that collapsed. Reward: Corin´s Crossing center collapsed, 90 Low Class Citizens lost their lives, Rebuild Corin´s Crossing cost more and take longer, need to fill hole before rebuilding.

Diplomacy: You are smart, beautiful and able to charm almost everyone you meet, is there any wonder why you have taken over the diplomatic aspect of the Crusade? (Pick 1)

The man that approaches is of an average height, with a muscular body and a few scars showing, but his most outstanding feature is the eye patch he wears over his right eye, when he sees you his face shows surprise for a moment before settling into a calm expression.

"Princess Angelica, is that you?" He asks in a calm voice, but you can hear the slight excitement.

"Yes, and you are Maxwell Tyrosus correct, I remember meeting you a few years ago." You ask after trying to find his face in your memories.

"Yes, you are correct, it is a relief to find that you survived what happened in the Capital City, this will be joyous news to those that has taken refugee here, most of them has lost hope of the future." You can see that while he hasn´t lost hope himself your survival has eased his worries for the future.

Nodding you look around, seeing the faces of the refugees and soldiers walking and standing around you think about what to say and return your gaze to Maxwell, the intensity of your gaze takes him aback.

"I am Princess Angelica, heir to the throne of Lordaeron, the leader of the Scarlet Crusade, an order created to restore Lordaeron to its rightful owner and rid the world of the undead threat." Your voice rings clear in the courtyard, grabbing the attention of those nearby. "Lord Maxwell Tyrosus, Paladin of the Knights of the Silver Hand, leader of Light´s Hope Chapel, will you and those that follow you join me in my quest, will you follow me until I am crowned Queen in the Capital City and the last trace of the Plague has left these lands?

Maxwell is taken aback for a moment before he smiles and kneels down.

"I swear that I will follow you until the day I die." He rises and looks around before starting to speak in a loud voice. "What about you, will you follow me and serve our Princess and take back our kingdom?"

Deciding that you have been sitting in the church for too long you stand up and leave the church, heading towards the graveyard.
Green eyes watches as you leave.
You walk along the gravel path towards the graves of the fallen soldiers, when you arrive you sit down on one of the benches and look over the graves, you take a moment to see just how many graves there are before starting to pray. You can´t help but wonder what they thought in their last moments, did they think of their loved ones, did they think about what they will miss, did they hate you for sending them out to fight and die, but their deaths will not be in vain, for those that died in the past and for those that will die in the future, you will bring peace to this Kingdom again. Done with your prayer you stand up and start to move home.
Dark gray scales littering the ground vanishes.
When you arrive home you move over to the picture of your family, your mother is holding a young you with your fathers arm around her shoulder, your older sister stands in front of your mother wearing a purple dress and your brother stands in front of your father clad in blue suit fitting his status of Crown Prince. You knell and start to pray for them.

You don´t remember much about your mother, she died just a few years after you were born, all you can remember is a warm feeling and brown warm eyes.

You had your father wrapped around your fingers, maybe it was the combination of being the youngest daughter and a last memento of your mother but your father couldn´t say no to you, unless it was dangerous, otherwise you got what you wanted in one form or another.

You got along with your sister as you should get along with sisters, you fought, you made up, you tormented your brother and father, you can only hope that she is alive and safe.

You always had fun teasing your brother about anything really, mostly about Jaina during the time they were together or when you teamed up with Calia or Jaina, or both, and forced your brother to do embarrassing things.

You miss all of them, hoping that those you don´t know the fate of is safe and happy, but you won´t be able to be at peace until He has paid for what he has done.
The clock glows slightly.
You finish your prayers and change your clothing before starting your duties. Reward: ???. Reward: +1 Reroll.

"Report. " You order the officer in front of you.

"Yes Ma´am, the Thondroril River garrison reports no suspicious activities from the Scourge, they have yet to try and cross the river and the commanding officer is happy to report that there has been no problems with the new recruits." The officer takes a short break to catch his breath.

"The Crown Guard garrison reports that the Scourge at Fungal Vale seem content to stay in their base, they have yet to try and attack the Tower or get past them, the commander also report that there have been some altercations between the new recruits and the older soldiers but they have worked it out and seems to get along."

"The garrison at Eastwall however has some worrying news, it seems that the Trolls are starting to become more active, their patrols are starting to creep closer to the Tower, while the commander doubt that the Trolls will attack she requests more soldiers to further discourage them. She also reports that the new recruits are behaving and no problems have risen." The officer stops here and waits for you to speak.

"So there haven´t been any major incident with the new recruits, I am glad to hear that, but on to other matters. The River garrison and the Crown Guard garrison are to continue as they have, but I have new orders to the Eastwall garrison, they are to tighten their patrols and bring them closer to the Tower, I don´t want them to unnecessarily provoke the Trolls, we will talk about the matter of reinforcement during the meeting." You lean back in your chair. "You are dismissed."

"Yes Ma´am." The officer turns around and leaves.

After the officer has closed the door you put your head in your hand.

"First the storms and now the Trolls, it´s just one thing after another, hopefully the Trolls won´t attack us and keep the Scourge busy."

Sighing you remove your head from your hands and start working on your paperwork.

Turn 9
September 27 AFW (After First War)

Turn 9

You dash towards the planning room, bursting into the room you notice that the others have already gathered, Saidan starts to speak as soon as you enter the room.

"I just got a message from the Eastwall Garrison, one of their patrols discovered gargoyles lifting several carts over the Gorge, the patrol was too small to engage them and double backed to the Tower to get reinforcement, leaving behind some scouts, unfortunately by the time they got back the carts and gargoyles were gone and the scouts report that they were unable to keep up with them without being seen. We believe that the carts were the same ones that escaped Alexandros during the Battle for Corin´s Crossing."

Saidan motions towards the map.

"There are two possible places that the carts are heading towards, either towards Stratholme, which is the most likely destination, or towards Quel'Thalas and one of the Scourge bases there. We have no way of following their tracks so the only way to find out where they are going would be to infiltrate either Stratholme or Noxious Glade and hopefully find a clue."

Saidan glances at each of you.

"It is clear that the Scourge don´t want us to have whatever it is they are transporting, we must find out what it is. That is all I have to report, if there isn´t anything else we are done here."

Military: Saidan Dathrohan has been appointed the Grand Crusader, the one in charge of all military matters with Highlord Alexandros Mograine and High General Richard Abbendis as his subordinates.
