The Year is 2016. And the world has deteriorated into madness. War has consumed the world, and nothing is the same. The secret cabal only known as The Patriots conspired to manipulate history, creating a system of AIs to control the population of humanity. And they succeeded...beyond their wildest dreams. The gambit of Liquid Ocelot, using the powerful Railgun of Metal Gear REX to destroy the controller AI JD succeeded, despite the efforts of Solid Snake and his allies. However, that's when everything went wrong. It turns out that the AI under control of Ocelot, GW, was not as servile as he thought. It had barely survived the Cluster Worm of Emma Emmerich and slowly gathered it's strength and when JD was destroyed, it lashed out. It activated the powerful FOXDIE virus remnants within Liquid Snake's arm, killing off Ocelot before attempting to subvert control from the other patriot AIs, TR, TJ, and AL. However, the 'subordinate' AIs fought back, using the nanomachines located within nearly every human on the planet to assume control of them. Countries collapsed near-instantaneously, the world lines being redrawn with mechanical precision.

AL has taken control of Eastern Asia, along with Oceania, and most of the pacific ocean. TJ assumed control of Western Asia, along with all of Europe, fending off both AL and TR, the latter of which has assumed control of the African Continent and the Middle East. Meanwhile, GW used the Outer Heaven Arsenal Gear to land in South America where it now controls both that and Latin America.

North America is a Maverick, as pieces of JD had landed upon the powerful continent, the former controller AI's death throes spreading a Madness amongst the people there. No AI could properly assume rulership there without risking the final virus of JD, something not even they could resist.

It has been two years since then.

You are special. You are one of the few peoples that are not under the control of Nanomachines, whether from a sheer mental will or a (now correctly proven) suspicion of them. You alone are free.

You are...

[] Sunny Emmerich: You remember Big Shell. The S3 incident that caused you to be under the care of Snake and Otacon. You remember Snake leaving... and never coming back. Not two months later, Otacon died too. He was shot down and died making sure you lived. You will never forgive them for this. (Stewardship/Learning Leader)
-Perks
-> Girl Genius: You can create - or recreate - practically anything you put your mind to. (Effect: Auto Succeed any R&D Actions)
-> The Emmerich Legacy: Hal taught you nearly everything he knew, and as an effect, you're one of the few people who could potentially build metal gears. (Effect: Automatically Unlocks 'Metal Gear' research tree.

-Flaws
-> Young: You're not very old. And it shows. (Effect: All Martial actions taken by Sunny get a -15 to it.)
-> Valuable: The AIs know how smart you are. They also know that you hate them. (Effect: Sunny will actively be hunted by the AIs)

[] Steven Armstrong: You wanted to save the world from war. To do that, you needed money, which only war could provide enough of. The irony never left you. However, you knew that something went wrong that day. You felt the nanomachines pumping through you, racing straight up to your brain, attempting to override your sense of self. Despite it's best attempts, your ability to think remains, and you now lead a group of desperate refugees. (Martial/Stewardship Leader)
-Perks
-> Man of steel: Your mind and body are as if it were steel, near unbreakable. (Effect: Armstrong auto succeeds Survival/Resist Rolls)
-> My Business is War: Learning the ways of a war economy has been invaluable to you. (Effect: +10 to all loot rolls from skirmish victories.)

-Flaws
-> Hot-Headed: You recognize that it's rather easy to rile you up (Effect: Some options are closed to you, -10 to certain diplomacy rolls)
-> Darwinist: Those who can't survive the laws of the jungle have no place in your eyes. (Effect: Easier to sour relations with certain groups)

[] Meryl Silverburgh: Snake left you. You wish he hadn't. Ever since that awful day, you've been running. Screaming Mantis did something to you, with that echo of that horrible day 9 years ago. Since then, you've been on the run. All you've got is your team: Rat Patrol 01. Hopefully, that will be enough. (Martial/Intrigue Leader)
-Perks
-> Military Minded: You came from the military, and you know a thing or two about it. (Effect: Meryl can direct up to Magnitude 2 units without Martial rolls)
-> A Sliver of the Legend: You watched Solid Snake train under Kazuhira Miller. It may be nothing compared to being trained yourself, but you managed to pick up some things. (Effect: +5 to intrigue, +10 to all intrigue actions)

-Flaws
-> Only Human: You don't really have any enhancements that make you better than the others around you. (Effect: Meryl's stats start out capped at 10.)
-> Nanomachines: You still have nanomachines inside you. It's been a point of worry for everyone in the squad. (Meryl could be taken over)
[] ??? (SYS.BOOT 01001001 01101101 01100001 01100111 01101111)
And you have evaded the control of Cruel AIs, eventually finding yourself at...

[] Shadow Moses Island: The resting place of Metal Gear REX, this place is isolated and unmonitored. Well, mostly. You will still have to deal with AL and other AIs that got interested in REX.

[] Big Shell: The hiding place for the first Arsenal Gear in New York, this place is huge and chock full of Materials to use. However, the AIs are paying close attention to it, mainly TR.

[] Groznyj Grad: An old, abandoned Soviet Fortress, this place has powerful defenses and is relatively useless to the AIs. However, TJ will occasionally take an interest in it for some reason.
[]Seychelles Waters: What? Where did this gargantuan Oil platform come from? ...And why is it deserted?

NANOMACHINES SON, NANOMACHINES!!

[x] Steven Armstrong
[x]Seychelles Waters

Though question, the characters we don't choose from the list, is there a chance to recruit them into our faction later on if we encounter them?

[X] ??? (SYS.BOOT 01001001 01101101 01100001 01100111 01101111)
^The above makes me think of the Boss's ai pod for some reason.
[X]Seychelles Waters: What? Where did this gargantuan Oil platform come from? ...And why is it deserted?

It's just closed. STEVEN WINS, AND HE IS AT THE SEYCHELLES WATERS BASE.

Also, for @edboy49's question, You could. If you find them before they either A) Build up enough of a base to not auto-join you or B) are made into a non-playable character (There are a few ways for this to happen, so be prudent.)

Prologue 1
The Seychelles waters of Port Victoria. Once a rather prosperous source of oil, it's become a ghost town since The Takeover. Then again, most of the world has. However, that doesn't mean that nothing is left. The report of a large platform chain was definitely unexpected but still appreciated. As long as you could make sure that the 4 couldn't find you, it would be perfect.

'Alright. It's time to make a comeback!'

----------------------------------

'Alright. What the hell happened here?'

You stared, dumbfounded, at the absolutely gargantuan complex that sprawled before you. When your scout said it was large, he wasn't joking. In fact, this could easily qualify as a naval base! It just needed some docks and shipyards. You could work with this...

*Sir! Senator Armstrong Sir!*

*What is it Scuff?*

You turned towards the cockpit, where the best pilot you had was sitting. Scuff had been with you since the beginning, and you wouldn't let him go without a fight.

*There are plenty of Air pads to land at down there. However, I'm getting some reports of some automated responses pinging us.*

The response sent an ice cube down your back. Had they found you already?

*Are they target locks?*

*More like detection pings. However, they're vastly different compared to the AI pings we've seen.*

Hmm. So either they were new models or made by someone else. This could be very good... or very bad.

*Alright then. I want you to...*

[] *Shoot 'em down. We don't need potential security leaks.* (You destroy the sources of the radar pings.)
[] *Take us down there. If they've already taken this place, we just need to take it back.* (You land at the Air pad, with the intention to fight.)
[] *Take us down there. If those aren't from the 4, then we could potentially have a new ally on our side.* (You land at the Air pad, with the intention of not fighting.)
[] *Get us out of here. We don't need any more heat.* (Leave this place and choose a new starting location.) Are you kidding me! This is the only chance we got! (Locked by Hot-Headed.)

(AN: Vote closes in 8 hours. Choose responsibly...)

Prologue 2
*-Alright then, Sir. Just know that I think this is a bad idea.*

*You know me, Scuff. When have good ideas helped us?*

The line is silent before Scuff takes you down. You know that was a low blow, however, you knew that it needed to be said. Pretty words and cautious actions wouldn't win any potential friends.

You step off of the dinged-up chopper...

(Initial opinion? DC 30/60: 45)

To find what look like drones circling you, guns primed. However, upon a closer look, they're merely tranq guns and smoke launchers. A trust, but verify strategy, eh? You could appreciate that.

"Hello! Would you mind directing me to a place where we could meet?" It was good to start simple.

A moment of silence, and...

(Changed opinion? DC 50: 91)

Another drone, this one unarmed, came up to you, Blinking its front lights, it hovered away towards the large structure in the center of the platform. A Guide? Sounds good to you.

----------------------------

You arrived to...

(Condition? 64)

An odd mixture of catastrophically destroyed and perfectly organized. It seemed that while the drones could do much, fine manipulation wasn't one of those things. However, all they needed to do was...

clean up that.

"Scuff, are you seeing what I'm seeing?"

*If by 'what you're seeing' is an AI pod, then yes. I am.*

"Good. Now, here's what I'm going to do..."

[] "I'm going to destroy it. No chances are given. (You destroy ???.) Damn. I knew I should have brought some explosives with me. (Locked due to previous options
[] "I'm going to try to talk to it...but the second it tries something funny, I'm blasting it. (Cautious talking mode.)
[] "I'm going to try to talk to it. (Friendly talking mode.)
[]" I'm getting out of here. Warm up the Chopper, Scuff. (You leave.) No...Don't Leave please...

(AN: 14 Hour vote. This will be important.)

[x] "I'm going to try to talk to it. (Friendly talking mode.)

We're Armstrong. If things go bad, we'll just punch it or something.
