Prelude: Okay fuckers, have a solely narrative quest about teenagers, the void between multiverses, fucked up worlds, and forming a family out of the only people you've had extended contact with.

If you were not you, and your companion not who he is, then the current circumstances would have been absolutely unbearable.

After all, you are pretty sure that no ordinary people would be able to calmly withstand walking in a void between all potential worlds, with only a single, equally clueless soul for conversation.

But the two of you could.

Honestly, he could probably have taken it on his own. Even though the calmness doesn't come naturally to him as it does to you, he's vibrant. Able to dream up anything, and let himself believe the best of his circumstances. He may even be able to simply hold a conversation with himself.

You are both equally lucky it's never come to that, however.

"Sooooo… what's your favorite color?" he asks. You think he may have asked that before in this long amble, but you're willing to discuss it once again.

"I'm really not sure… the calmer colors, I'd think? Perhaps a calm, dark navy. What about you?"

"Definitely green. It's the color of spring and summer back from my home, and well, since I was born in the last month of Spring…" Yes, you believe he's mentioned how green is irrevocably associated with vibrancy in his home world. It makes sense for him.

"Why navy, though? It does fit you, but why that color?"

"...I'd say it's because I'm reminded of clear nights. The absences between stars, hiding all the secrets of the universe." Rather like what you and your companion find yourselves in.

But not as deep. More tangible. You're not sure whether you prefer that, or this, honestly.

He nods, taking your answer in as something he will remember about you.

You wander forward, no known destination. The journey is enough, anyways.

It may be eternity, but it feels like only a few seconds before he brings up something new.

"Honestly, I can't believe it took so long to ask this, but what did you do before you found me?"

"I don't really remember. I think I must have just… stood there. At least, until you showed up."

"You? Just stand somewhere? I don't believe it!" And he doesn't. He thinks the best of you, and you are honestly so glad that he really does.

You don't want to be rash about this, but he's probably your best friend ever.

"Yeah… it seems rather uncharacteristic of me now, but you'd be surprised how much momentum you can bring," you comment/compliment.

He blushes and attempts to play it down, but you know the truth of it. He genuinely does have so much energy to him.

It is that same energy that leads him to notice something you can't.

"Whoa, what's that over there?" he points and you look.

It is a light. A light like his, but different. A different feeling than his. A different color, too.

[] It's a sharper color than his. Brighter. But at the same time, the hue is sort of familiar. Lime? It seems to try and pulse in and out of existence sporadically, as if denying its own right to exist.

[] It's a rich tone, reminiscent of the red wine you'd seen your parents have for New Years'. It was as if someone took a deep magenta, and deepened it slightly. It clearly seems flashy, somehow. If you squint at it, though, the brightness fades to simply leave richness.

[] It's… not obvious. You only realize that it is a gray light after a few moments of consideration. However, once you do, it is impossible to miss. Inviting, even.

"Do you want to go check it out?"

There is only one good answer you could give to the question. The only answer, in all honesty.

"Yes. Yes, I think I do."
