Now, on to the next part of the story!
________________________
That evening I got ready for bed and then laid down, pulling my bed curtains close. Bloody Pomfrey only let me out to dinner. Missed all the classes for the day.
Annoying, But I could not really fault her for making sure my head was alright before she let me go.
Still, next time I see Fleur, I'll talk to her about unnecessary force. Crazy bint might as well have just stunned me.
So that was twenty points for Fleur and zero points for me. A draw gave you each ten points.
Which mean that to keep my lead, Fleur need to lose to Krum and I need to beat him.
I sighed and picked up the present from Daphne, turning it over in my hands. At least it was Fleur and Krum tomorrow and not Krum and me. Sadly I was not allowed to watch...and I would be guarded so no sneaking out.
Bollocks.
Putting a mage light above me I started to unwrap the present. Inside I find a wooden box and when I open it, it reveal a mirror the size of my palm with a black glass frame. Obsidian.
I frowned slightly. Why would she get me a mirror...and then it clicked when I saw a small note laying beneath the mirror in the wooden box.
'Say my name'.
I stared at the mirror for a second. These things aren't magical cellphones. They are handcrafted. Most of them are old heirlooms..and they only exist in sets of two. You can not add more to a link.
Not Cheap. A set will likely cost three times as much my bag and that is by far my most expensive item.
Pulling my wand I cast silencing charms on my bed curtains before I picked it up again "Daphne Greengrass."
There was a couple of seconds before my image blurred and went blank for a moment before revealing Daphne.
"Hiver! Finally!" She started to speak before she stared at me "...Are you naked?" and started to blush.
I blinked and looked down before I shook my head "Don't be silly, Why would I wear a t-shirt to bed?" before frowning "And what exactly are you doing buying me something this expensive?"
She shrugged "I didn't. Picked it up this summer at the family vault...Belonged to my great grandfather."
I stared at her for a moment "Daphne, This thing cost more than everything I own. Put together. I'm not sure I can..." I started before she cut me off.
"Oh put a sock in it, Gryffindor. I have had it with only talking to you when we both happen to wander onto the tower at the same time. Just don't signal me during class." she said and leaned back against a rather large pillow. She must be in bed as well. Luckily she was actually dressed or this would have been awkward.
"Won't people hear my voice?" I asked "And you know...recognize it?"
That would kind of throw off the game a bit...
She shook her head and put the mirror in her lap as she put her hair into a ponytail "The mirrors are charmed. My grandfather was a bit paranoid so they have some extra security they normally don't have. For example only the owner can hear or see anyone in them.". She then picked it up again "So we can signal each other at any time, only we will hear it. If we can't answer, we can't answer."
Oh, so it was not only a expensive gift, It was a special expensive, Heirloom gift. In my mind I doubled the price of the damn thing.
I sighed and shook my head "Fine Daph, I'll keep it for now. If you want it back, all you need to do is ask."
She smiled "Good. Now, how are you? I only got the general picture from Granger."
I shrugged "A bit humiliated, but other than that I am fine. Just some temporary pain and a concussion. Madame Pomfrey cleared it up easy enough...I was fine this morning, but you know how she is. I was only able to get out before dinner."
Daphne grinned "Actually, I don't. I don't make it a habit to end up there as often as you."
Oh, that was a fair point...a rather disturbing one, but a fair point.
"So how did the duel look from your perspective?" I asked as I made myself comfortable.
She hmmed and frowned "Honestly? One of the best duels I have ever seen. I didn't know you were that good. I would give you even odds against Father."
I snorted "Well, Fleur was better. First round? Yeah, she was holding back. Second round she didn't...she kicked my arse pretty soundly. Which is why I had to rush her third round. Only chance I had to win was to get close and get her wand away from me."
Daphne rolled her eyes "Yes, that went well."
I grimaced "I didn't expect her to kiss me."
"...I am sure she didn't expect you to kiss back either." Daphne snarked and gave me a look.
"Oh please, Greengrass." I answered with a sigh "Girl is a Veela. Her aura is hard enough to resist normally. I would like to see you resist her bloody aura if she kissed you."
There was a beat as Daphne blushed before I face-palmed "Ok, let's just forget I said that. Point is, she fried my brain and I acted on instinct."
She sighed and looked away "Fine, not like it is my business anyway.".
I sighed "Daphne..." I started. What did I say wrong this time? "Call me tomorrow evening? I want to hear about Delacour's duel versus Krum." I continued, not really sure what else to say.
Daphne turned back to the mirror and then smiled "Okay, I will. Sweet dreams."
"Good night, Daphne....and Thank you."
