I plan for this to be more of a Slice of Life type of VRRPG than a SAO-style fight for survival, so expect this to be nice and fluffy at places. The idea here is to explore and have fun (and for me to get back into writing something).

Muted colors lowly took proper shape over the time it took your body to go properly to sleep after you had gone to bed. It was one of the only thing you disliked with dream-style virtual reality games, and you felt a shiver of restless anticipation run down your spine while you waited for your eyes to adjust. Sure, the whole process took but a few seconds in reality, but tonight you were trying out your newest purchase: Orion Online. The game had good review in the last few weeks since its launching, and you had heard good things of it from your friends as well, like the way the dream-like quality of gameplay left you relaxed but recalling everything you had experienced in the morning or the rumors that the roles of the NPCs would slowly be left to the players in the upcoming months. Whatever the reasons to play, the promise of a brand new world to play around and enjoy was certainly a thing to consider!

Set in a medieval fantasy world, each player started equal, with a small but cozy room at one of the inns of the Surinese capital of Galeborn and the equal chance to enter a lucrative vocation with plenty of room for improvements and branching out. In short, it was a chance for you to live a stress free life as you slept, free of the risk of nightmares or fitful sleep. Ah, speaking of sleeping, it looked like your eyes were finally working properly again!

Blinking a couple of times to make sure all was in order, you looked around to find that your were laying down on a small bed in a slightly larger room. The sun was entering the room with a small yet refreshing breeze and the sheer cream-colored curtains were dancing softly over your bed. Noting that a sturdy-looking chest was near the door to your right and also noticing that you were in medieval underclothes, you sit back on the bed and made your way to your feet. Making your way to the chest, you quickly opened the heavy lid of iron-reinforced oak and proceeded to dress.

[ ] The tunic was surprisingly soft, and while the pants were a bit stiff, they were warm and felt safe on your legs. The shoes were a perfect fit, too!
[ ] Simple yet managing to still be pretty, the dress and shawl you found were dyed in a soft minty green and grey, respectively. The wooden shoes would need a bit to adjust to, but you'll manage!

Now properly dressed and ready to explore, you made your way to the door with a small eager smile on your lips. Beyond your room was a corridor leading to stairs going both up and down, and without too much of trouble you made your way down to the lobby, where a jolly fellow with a potbelly and laugh lines on his round face greeted you in a blue outfit that was unadorned yet of obvious quality. Grinning widely, the innkeeper approached you, what seemed like a map held loosely in his hands.

"Ah, welcome, welcome! You must be my newest tenant! I am Bertram, and I am the innkeeper of this fine establishment! Now, I assume you are looking for something to occupy yourself during your stay in the capital, hm? Well, I have a few suggestions if you are interested so please follow me to the dining room, and I'll set you up with a nice flagon of mead while you get yourself situated."

Gesturing for you to follow him with his free hand, Bertram walked quickly to a room a few steps from the lobby and gestured to a chair by a great wooden table as he set down the map he held on its surface. Once you were seated, you were given a pewter flagon full of the promised golden liquid and were soon listening as the man started to describe suggested occupations you could take up.

"If you want to learn to be a good merchant and how to get good contacts with potential business partners, I always have room for more employees and runners, but if something more exciting is on you mind, I have a few suggestions." Clearing his throat as if he was preparing for a grand speech, Bertram started to talk once more.

"The city's Militia is always looking for adventurous and hardy recruits, and you'll learn to fight, the meaning of brotherhood and duty, and even learn the ways of the land while serving there. Know that it is not the most glamorous of vocations, and while great knights and Heroes come from such a beginning, it is a dedicated thing to attempt in order to gain renown. Now, you may want for a bit more luxury down the line, and if you dream of entering the Clergy or becoming adopted by a Noble family, the entering the temple as a disciple is the way to go! Do be aware that those people take reputation and manners very seriously, however! If you need a bit more... freedom... then becoming a bard may be your thing." Bertram's shifty demeanor at that last point made you think that that last option was shady indeed.

What would you like to try? Know that you can change vocation at any time.
[ ] Work for Bertram at the inn.
[ ] Enroll in the Militia.
[ ] Join the temple as a disciple.
[ ] Go find what that bard thing is all about.

Smiling at you, Bertram bid you farewell and told you he would be around if you wanted to take him up on his offer for employment. For now, he wished you luck and a good day.

Torn between ruling and becoming the pied piper.

Woo! Cleric! Being a holy person is pretty great in and of itself, disregarding any opportunities for social advancement (ignoring just about everything involving chores, that is. :V)! Especially when the crazy people hijack the game and don't let you wake up!

We will become the ultimate business woman, expanding our monopoly across the land!

Just for the pure role playing value, I'd like for us to be a virtuous person. I say this because there is a large precedent for such character traits being emotionally satisfying to voters.

As my first example, I point to Knight's quest.

I'm wondering, since the disciple route is winning, what path is the most popular right now: Clergy or Nobility?

The Temple
Vote results: Female MC and Disciple-to-be!

The mead was smooth and sweet on your tongue as you looked down at the map before you. Spanning about the length of your new shawl and being a bit wider than it was tall, the piece of parchment outlined the city of Galeborn in a simple yet easily understandable mix of lines and symbols. Specific areas of interest were marked on the creamy surface such as the inn you were staying in (called The Lucky Hare) and what you decided was your next destination; the temple. You were not exactly sure how far it was, but you could clearly see that you only had to take the main street north towards the central marketplace and make your way east from there. Eastward should lead directly to the place of worship, and you guessed that as a temple, the building itself would be eye catching enough for you not to accidentally pass it by.

Your mind made up, you took a moment to finish your drink, put the map nearly in your inventory and finally straighten your dress and shawl before you sought the innkeeper Bertram to say your farewell and to give him your thanks. While NPCs were not exactly on par with human beings in term of awareness, they were still quite advanced these days, and you did not fancy being forced to make amend to Bertram should things go south due to you ignoring him and just leaving without a word. The rotund man was in the lobby, and beamed broadly at you as you put a few coins (provided at character generation just for such a purpose) on the lacquered front desk with a smile of your own.

"Ah, I guess this is a farewell then, miss? It was a pleasure to meet you, and I wish you again plenty of good luck!" Making a half bow and waving cheerily at you, Bertram happily put the coins into a pouch at it waist while humming a familiar yet meaningless tune.

"Thank you for your help, Bertram, and good day to you." Parting with the NPC with a smile, you left the inn and made your way to the main street.

The wide road was moderately busy this early in the morning, and while the street was not particularly noisy, you still had to carefully made your way through a few clusters of passerby in order to make your way to the central marketplace. The sun was shining brightly today, and the sky was a peaceful blue that contrasted nicely with the white stone and red clay of the houses and shops bordering the street. There was a nice breeze going on as well, and as you approached the marketplace the sweet smell of fresh bread and the exotic fragrance of fruits, flowers and spices reached your nose.

The central marketplace was an extensive affair of colorful tents and makeshift stall turning the great main square of the capital into an intriguing labyrinth of various merchandise and half hidden curios. The air was hotter here, both from the heat of the various foods on display and from the more crowded nature of the gathering place. Many merchants and peddlers hailed you as you walked, and you were quite suddenly reminded that it was customary to give an offering to gods when visiting them.

[ ] Buy a standard offering of fresh bread and white flowers. (Commonly found, will give you some early goodwill from the clergy. Costs 20 gold, leaving you with about 130.)
[ ] Try to find a more interesting offering, at a cheap price. (Costs 10 gold, but the quality will widely vary...)
[ ] No, your devotion will be enough.

Your business with the marketplace done, you headed eastwards to the intricately paved streets and alleys making up the Temple District. It was quieter here, and the scent of incense and the chants of the devout took over the smells and sounds of the busy city beyond. The buildings were entirely made from white stone with crystalline ceilings here, and as a result the whole area was quite brightly lit by the morning sun. Rays of prismatic light fell down upon you from above as you walked, and it took you no time at all to find the temple itself as the whole construct was made exclusively of translucent materials that let in the natural light freely. The ability to see inside the temple was a strange one, but the effect was there as the domes and the spires of the place of worship mingled in an harmonious whole and inspired a degree of awe within you.

The Temple was guarded by a good amount of sentries outfitted in leather, chain mail and with exquisitely embroidered tabards depicting the temple, the sun and the moon upon a white background of linen. The men and women guarding the public areas deeming you harmless enough at a glance, you were given free entrance to the inner courtyard, where the first sermon of the day was about to take place. White silver and gold-colored cushions were set in three crescent shapes on the floor, facing a dais where stood three priests, the one in the middle no doubt being the one in charge with his more elaborate regalia and the air of serene authority that he exuded.

This was your first contact with the religion you were about to adhere to, what would you like to do with the time you have before the sermon?
[ ] Introduce yourself to the priests.
[ ] There seems to be a small pamphlet sitting on each cushion, maybe it hold more information on this religion?
[ ] Sit an observe, being careful to be quiet and attentive to how others act in this situation.
[ ] Talk with your fellow worshipers, attempting to make early friendships before you take on your life as a disciple.
[ ] Just take in the feeling of reverence you can feel inside you, and try to meditate while you wait.

Friends are always nice and we could stand to learn more about the religion at the same time. We can approach the priests after the sermon and the information of the other options can probably be acquired by talking to fellow worshipers.

Wanna rise to power? Be unique.

We're new here. Let's see the dos and donts of the religion first before we risk offending people by saying somethibg wrong.

Let's start with RTFM. Always read the instructions

Clergy, although I'm feeling slightly more nervous now. Ah well.

I like the theme of light going on here. It does have unfortunate implications, though, in that it makes it really easy to imagine up and then start a religion of evil, and with Internet trolls being internet trolls and all... (*cough*).

ah, back on track are we @Balefire? cool! This setting seems fun enough, now let's see;

We don't know what offends or pleases our new religion, so we could accidently buy a hereticul offering & I don't fancy gamling our first impression on our new God(s) on a dice; we don't have Sage Dice yet guys.

[X] There seems to be a small pamphlet sitting on each cushion, maybe it hold more information on this religion?
Like I said; We know nothing about this faith we're joining, we should learn more about it, oh look! a conveiniant guide is handed out! let's read it! Besides, we should get settled in before we get caught up in the local gossip circles, right?

Is there a way I can remove some of that nervousness? This whole thing is meant as a lighthearted experience, so there is no real 'bed end'. As for the light theme, I pictured it a bit more to do with truth and judgement than 'good', as some priests are VERY good at doing cruel things in plain sight while still looking good.

I hope so! I'm glad to see it interests you. :)

Nah, it's the nervousness you get when you're doing something important and you don't really have a clue about what to do except in the most general sense. That nervousness.
there is no real 'bed end'
Well of course not, we're a nun.

(Actually not really (?), but I had to make the joke). :V

Ah, lawful, rather than good. That's fine. Lawful Good people are great, and even lawful evil people aren't as bad as the other kinds of evil people.

Would you guys want to see the pamphlet in a omake format? The update itself will only gloss over the important parts.

Hmmn, I suppose? I'd like to read the entire thing, and I jokingly intend for you to write out their entire holy book when we get a copy, so that sounds good.

Okay, I'll get working on the thing, then. The update will probably be posted a few hours after that's done and uploaded.
