Heroes will come to defeat us, and will instead assume that the villain has captured us!

It's simple psychology.

We beat up the goblins. This has made them recognize us as dominant.

Now we treat them nicely and tend to their wounds (that we caused), this will generate feelings of being nurtured and loved.

We shall keep them well motivated with a mixture of sticks and carrots, thus ensuring that they are too scared to challenge us, but also love us too much to be resentful of our demands.

All shall love us and despair!
