Boy there sure were a lot of sepia still frames during that update. Can't imagine what part of Mariana's perfectly normal childhood could have prompted those weird responses.

It's interesting how many things in this Quest are direct parallels to Trails of Cold Steel without quite being the same - the Rangers as Bracer substitutes being one of them. In Trails of Cold Steel, the Bracers were soft-banned from Erebonia after a terrorist attack against them (which was a diversion for the events of Trails in the Sky) - less as a direct result and more because everyone in power within Erebonia was busily sharpening their knives for a civil war at that point, and saw an opportunity to get rid of Meddling Kids The NGO. Here, the circumstances of the political falling out are completely different, and they're still sticking around in the Empire's more distant frontiers. Leaf openly continuing to operate as a Ranger is also different from Sara's situation for knock-on reasons.

As Leaf leaves the two of you to check up on Espurr, Elise goes to one of the windows of the station. She has a 50 Pokedollar coin between her fingers, which she uses to tap the window sill. A Murkrow suddenly flies down and swipes the 50 Pokedollar coin from Elise's hand. "Mariana, meet Murkrow. Don't try giving him a nickname, he'll get mad."
He's just going to bet all those coins on the Ponyta races and come out broke anyway. Or possibly blow it on Darth Vader cosplay.

"I need a drink." Both Wiggly and Ditzy protest, reminding you that you've almost gone two months without a sip. Ughh, the things you do to be a good teacher.
Leaf is also doing better than Sara (and most other adults with voice actors in Zemuria) in other important respects.

[] Ivy Knight Exhibition: During Emperor Rodrigo's War of Reunification, an Order of Knights served under the Masked Maiden throughout the conflict. Known as Orden de Verde, they were named so after their iconic green masks and helmets, a tradition that goes back to Masked Maiden herself.
Ah yes, St. Ogerpon Sandlot

Arvis remains a fucking turbogenius at combining characters.

I think training, ranger work, Espurr, and maybe another Exploration for AP? Espurr and Jacinto for bonding makes the most sense.

For the fair actions, I'm absolutely voting Masquerade because I want to watch Erika and Theodora suffer their crushes' obliviousness. The other one I could be persuaded on, but the Exhibition should bump Nemona and Jacinto up to Bond 1.

[] I Work Out at the Library

[] Pokemon and Me

[] You Can't Run from a Trainer Battle

[] You Can't Run from a Battle Between Trainers

[] Grade 8 Ranger Work

[] Phantasmal Feline

We should at least do each action at least once, Espurr and library seems like a no brainer, trainer battle so Roland is overpowered for first badge, Can't decide last action, introduction to the nobles, daycare or ranger for cash

For bond, either Roland or Jacinto

The summer festival, honestly I wanna get Erika and Ostia to bond 2 for their bonuses for library and exploration

Edit @ArvisPresley, for ranger work, do we decide what kind of work we want or is it random, and for clubs, do they take AP?

Clubs don't take AP they're automatic. And you'll decide what kind of work you'll be doing next update since Mariana can only do ranger work in the weekends

Here's the actions I think I'd like, I'm mostly interested in the training and Espurr actions but I'm curious how the school's stable/petting zoo works and the materials callout. I'm hoping that will be a lowish stress learning opportunity. The training is to continue getting the move xp which seems pretty important for actually doing consistent damage. Bonding event for Jacinto since we're a sucker (kind heart) for helping those that are struggling. The old and new battle styles sound cool. I just don't know which other festival action is good since both of them have our friends kind of isolated if we don't pick it. If someone wants to riff off this with a last action (or possibly different first action) go for it.

[] Plan: Headpats and Training (Incomplete)
-[] Pokemon and Me
-[] You Can't Run from a Trainer Battle
-[] To Train Them is Your Cause
-[] Phantasmal Feline
-[] Bonding Event: Espurr
-[] Bonding Event: Jacinto
-[] Ivy Knight Exhibition
-[] TBD

Here's my thoughts:

[] Plan: Work Hard, Play Hard, Having A Crush On The Protagonist Is Hard
-[] I Work Out at the Library
-[] Grade 8 Ranger Work
-[] To Train Them is Your Cause
-[] Phantasmal Feline
-[] Espurr
-[] Jacinto
-[] Masked Maiden Masquerade
-[] Ivy Knight Exhibition

Library action gets us to KNOW 7 by the end of the week, and we get 5 more weeks of boosted passive KNOW gain (assuming we don't take KNOW-boosting club). If we're lucky, we'll snag a first meeting this way too.

Ranger work is money AND XP. What's not to like?

Training because we're probably gonna be doing a single Pokémon challenge on the first Field Study and we need to grind our boy.

And finally we might as well commit to the Espurr subplot.

Bonding and festival choices are designed mainly to hit Bond 1 with Elise, Jacinto, and Nemona...and I just kinda feel bad for Jacinto. I could see trading the Exhibition for the Feast if we want to focus Ostia and Roland though, and getting a point in with Manuel also isn't a bad choice.

"Welcome to Silverleaf Office Mesagoza Branch,
Silverleaf Office... it actually is like a Fixer Office that's hilarious.
"I need a drink." Both Wiggly and Ditzy protest, reminding you that you've almost gone two months without a sip. Ughh, the things you do to be a good teacher.
Good Pokémon. Keep our Leaf sober.
[] Grade 8 Ranger Work
Keep the Projmoon references coming. I don't even care If I'm the only one who gets them I lap them up regardless.
[] Phantasmal Feline: Espurr was fully healed after having spent a day or so days at the Ranger Station getting treatment. Leaf personally gave you Espurr's Pokeball, on the condition that you are not allowed to talk to her without Missy nearby. You accept. You're worried about Espurr and it'll be good to finally have a proper talk with the Pokemon that tried to kill you and that you saved in return.
I feel like this is a no brainer for this week, expecially while we have the extra +1 AP
First 2 Options in my opinion, which is 100% because option 1 has Erika (and Elise) and option 2 has Ostia and Roland.
[] Literature Club: You like reading. Mostly fictional works, but that's valid. Fortunately for you, the Literature Club primarily focuses on fictional works with some non-fiction ones thrown in. And hey, you'll be in the same club as Erika, though she seems bizarrely conflicted on you joining the club. She should be happy you're in the club since it's one of the smallest ones in the Academy.
  • You'll be joining the Literature Club. Significant Club Members: Erika Furuwada and ???
  • Gain 150 KNOW XP every Club Meeting. Stops at KNOW 14
  • "Hey, Erika. What does GL and BL mean?"
Please. For that last option alone I'm 100% considering it.
Instructor will be Ms. Gregoria.
Only club that has an Instructor, and the name is Gregoria, which is not a character I recognize...

Gregoria Nome? :V

Yeah I don't know about the Club vote, the ones that call to me are Literature, Caretaking and Computing, I 100% cannot explain why Computing calls me like a siren song, but Caretaking... I mean our goals currently include trying to care for and assist Espurr, as well as Ostia and Erika, but not sure how much Caretaking will apply to humans... The Egg bonus is pretty nice too.

Huh, this was mentioned twice in the chapter, makes me think Mariana and siblings had their memories erased of anything too traumatic

Elise goes to one of the windows of the station.

Lol, crow doesn't get to even be human here, guess there's no ILF with him at the front, wonder if Elise would eventually capture him?

I'd bet money there's still an ILF equivalent, given that the Paldean state is just as aggressive and filled with contradictions. I'm also still pretty certain I've called their leader, despite my guess standing in for a different Trails character entirely, and it is someone in Class VII. I'm just sitting here waiting for the payoff, or further evidence that makes me reconsider.

There could be a transfer in the middle of the semester later on, around 4-5th FE, though what would be the stand in for DK?

Given that this was mentioned twice, a memory erasure must have happened.

an Order of Knights served under the Masked Maiden
Oh a version of Lianne is here to- Oh fuck, a version of Lianne exist here too.

Crow is literally a crow here, hahahahahaha.

Y-you—you eat Pokemon Ms. Mary…?"
Yeah funny story...
I wonder what's Mariana's favorite pokemon to eat though?

As for votes, definitely Espurr and Jacinto for bond. Thinking of the combat actions for now.

Do want that explore action plus the library, probably some action involving battling as well. Doing Ranger work would also be good let alone the fact just started so makes sense I feel. The Masqurade is the main event I want...maybe the Ivy Knight one too.

Find a good amount of the clubs interesting.

Engineering could be interesting for some prow and know xp. Though while the interactions could be interesting as well as repairing Orbal Devices probably among the lower of what I like.

Seems like it could be entertaining having to deal with Manuel constantly trying to race Mary. Suppose also flying license being easier. But sounds like with more difficulty could still try to get one. Suppose main thing would be to legaly ride Roland when he fully evolves as first to come to mind. Though that would still be quite some ways away. Otherwise thoughts go to just teleporting. Also provides prow xp.

...I like Penny and a source for KNOW xp. Mostly it for Computer club but would be enough for me.

The Battle Club is among my favorites and gives some SKLL and KNOW xp. Plus the whole Mary and Nemona interaction. Seem like could be funny and multiple thoughts popped into mind and can probably guess what some of them were. Probably could say more but can't quite get thoughts in order. Will just note this will likely favor the most.

Finally the caretakers club is my other favorite plus more interaction with Mela. Also xp for PROW and CHRM, let alone seeing what the egg could be.

Felt like going over the clubs now and my own thoughts over them...

-[] Grade 8 Ranger Work
-[] Roland
-[] Espurr
-[] Masked Maiden Masquerade
-[] Feast of the Maiden

[] Computer Club

This is what I'd like out of this week. It's very similar to Nerdorama's plan except I want different things out of the Festival and Social. Although, I supposed I would be okay with replacing Roland bonding with someone else as long as we still get Feast of the Maiden, especially as it'll get Roland some bond points regardless then. I just wanna make sure Ostia has some fun with this festival even if they're locked up in their room/house/jailcell.

Computer Club obviously isn't part of the vote but I'm making it clear where my alliances lay.

Also as an Aside:
[] I Work Out at the Library: Mesagoza Academy has two Libraries. The one in Rodrigo Hall and the dedicated Library building in Maria Hall. Maybe spend a couple of hours a day studying in your free time so you aren't completely lost during class. -1 AP
  • Potential Social Encounters: Erika, ??? , Jacinto
  • Gain 300 KNOW XP (Increases to 660 KNOW XP with traits)

The Potential Social Encounters move from week to week. Students are actually people and are moving to different actions, who'd have thought!

Man the clubs are hilarious. I wanna pick so many of the options, mainly Literature, Riding, Cooking and Martial Arts.

But this option
[] Caretakers Club: Less a club and more of an on-call division for the Academy's neverending war for Pokemon caretaking and hygiene. Amongst your new band of brothers and sisters is Mela, someone else who understands the importance of your solemn duty. As an Academy Munchlax approaches, dirty and messy from that day's battle and training, you two return once more into the breach.
is too hilarious for me to pass up. It even gives us an Egg come December, which is a great bonus.
Gain a Random Pokemon Egg during December.

"Hey, Erika. What does GL and BL mean?"

Battle (Fan) Club: Despite the name, there's actually very little batting done in the titular Battle Club, to Nemona's dismay. This lasted as long as it took for her to find out that the club is filled with people just as if not more obsessed with the analytical and theoretical side of Battling. Despite being on paper one of the largest clubs in the Academy, it has pretty shoddy attendance. Mostly you're just here cause Nemona is. Now if only you can get her to notice you.
  • You'll be joining the Battle Club. Significant Members: Nemona Mendoza
  • Gain 125 SKLL and 25 KNOW every Club Meeting. Stops at SKLL 14 and KNOW 12
  • Just staring at the Sun can be blinding. Also the battle knowledge is actually pretty useful.
The war in my heart over the sheer hilarity of Hey Erika what does GL and BL mean and Nemona battle club. I think making Erika explain yuri to us would be really funny, but also shounen battle rivals(also the skill and KNOW would be nice, commit to what we're good at and shore up what we're bad at)

I definitely think we should probably do something to interact with Nemona this go around because it would be really embarrassing to have a whole complex around her and to her were that girl she beat at the round-robin(plus that complex dialogue is like, really gay)
I'm thinking something like this, realizing that fighting Nemona was our first pokemon battle was like oh yeah that would give a girl a complex, I kinda think it'd be in character for her to at least go a little battle crazy and prove to herself she belongs here, to herself at least.
[] Plan: Chasing Daybreak

-[] I Work Out at the Library
-[] You Can't Run from a Trainer Battle
-[] Advanced BATTLE
-[] Roland
-[] Espurr

for the Festival I'm really split, I definitely want to do the masquerade and the feast is tugging my heart strings, But also ogrepon my beloved, you deserve a festival event. would also let us get some interaction with Jacinto without using up our bonding slot(which is gonna be a very precarious resource for WHILE)

Nothing to see here. Repressed memories? I think I'd remember something like that.

"Nah, just a deputy one, or an in-training one. Depends on what Miss Leaf feels like calling me at that moment. Also kind of a non-sequitur, but thanks for becoming Class President. I don't think I could handle being her minion in and out of school. Well, no more than I already am with the Student Council."
... Elise, stop that. You can't be Fie as well. Leave some characters for the rest of the cast.

You even stumble onto Elise and Theodora enjoying the masquerade as well, though both Erika and Theodoraseem disappointed at encountering the other group. You don't know what's up with that, though.
Those poor girls. Those poor, poor girls.

Mostly you're just here cause Nemona is. Now if only you can get her to notice you.
Deeply platonic rivalry. Just gals bein' rivals.

Shaking hands with my best completely oblivious friend Elise, together we can form a brick wall

@ArvisPresley will we get the weekly KNOW gain during Field Event 1 as well as normal weeks? Also, is the exploration RER the only way to find potential new Pokemon to catch, or is it also possible on Ranger missions?
