To be fair, Pawniard's evolution does have a bit of a quest of its own, considering that Bisharp needs to beat 3 others that hold a leader's crest to evolve into Kingambit.

Hmm, is there a reason why we can't go back to previous biomes in the future when we get Renne to bond 3 to teleport there as an AP action and search for specific mons?

Im honestly kind of more interested in the ones with quests to be honest, feels like they have more backstory or like. flavor to em ya know? personally really wanting either the Charcadet or Tinkatink because I think the Knight plotline is simply pretty cool honestly, Aron does hold a special place in my heart cause I like Aggron but I dont think we need another 3 evolution investment atm with all of Marianna's, things happening. I'll have to get more in-depth looks at our choices to really decide but I wouldn't be upset at either Charcadet or Tinkatink. Honestly, Pawniard would also be really cool
This makes me wonder if they are recently poached pokemon that we free while dealing with the plot.

This is a very easy heights/plateau pick for me personally. Aron, tinkatink or drilbur? Chardet is cool nd all but we can always come back for later if we really want. That and idk how difficult it's gonna be to evolve considering Mary has none of the meta knowledge we do.

Yes;

Pokémon are sapient creatures in-universe, not a set of equipment that deal elemental damage. Capturing a Pokémon is a union of the goals and drives of two creatures.

On a meta level, we're voting for what Pokémon she runs into, not what species she's out there deliberately hunting down.

I think Mary would be horrified if anyone ever told her that she should go and hunt down a Pokémon of a particular species for her team, instead of catching Pokémon she connects well with out on the field.

I don't think she'd be horrified (that, after all, is what Erika is planning on doing for a Scyther). But that is not at all where Mary is as a pokemon trainer or where she is in her journey. Mariana going looking for Pokemon to bond with her, and finds on of X species. Why would she go back to one spot in particular?

I think Mariana would be perfectly happy to hunt for a specific type of Pokémon for her team, she'd just be the type to take no for an answer.

You son of a bitch. We're never going to have AP.

Anyway I'm good with almost anything in the heights or ruins except maybe Yamask which considering how Pokémon encounter rolls have worked so far is a good thing. Please consider my boys Nacli and Charcadet before hitting the unlock tinkatink button 46 times though, we do have other business here.

(Also shout out to Smoliv and Applin, two Pokémon I love but aren't especially good fits for our team right now)

So if the gym requires 3AP over 3 days, and the Exercise is 4 days long at 2AP each, then the latest we can get a third pokemon to be usable in said match is probably the third day? Maybe the second if they need healing.

But then if they're one which needs a Task to be completed first to be unlocked then they can't be caught earlier than the second day, which means it's a pretty damn tight schedule. I figure the first day will have to be a mandatory task and shopping for supplies?

I think days after thr first might have one or two more AP, considering that that 2 accounts for a relatively brief train ride in the morning. I wouldn't expect much more, though.

Edit also I looked at the information again and Mandatory tasks don't cost AP, so that's good.

Field Exercises take place over the course of 4 Days. You'll be spending a week starting Monday up till Saturday in the location of that Month's Field Exercise.

For Field Exercise 1: Cortondo, you'll be heading to the province on Monday and the field Exercise proper starts on Tuesday. Since Cortondo is a pretty short distance train ride away from Mesagoza you will get 2 AP to be spent on Actions during the First Day. You'll even be able to buy items, though be aware that the items available to Cortondo, a rural settlement, will be much more limited compared to Mesagoza, the largest City in the world. Each Day will operate on a similar AP System.

The way I read this, we'd (normally) get four days, Tuesday-Friday, to spent AP (presumably 3 AP). Since Cortondo is so close, we also get 2 AP in the town itself on the Monday. For more distant exercises, we won't, as we'll spent all day Monday travelling.

The google doc calendar has Field Exercise 1 going from Monday 1st to Thursday 4th, so one of them must be wrong then.

The Little Coin Creature is objectively funniest, cause it would be a third mon we have that just can't fight for a while, but will be real strong once we fulfill the requirements.

You are evil, sir.

There won't be rolls for encounters
You choose a Biome to go to and the Pokemon Encounters are the choices.
What I'm interested in from each biome...
Heights/Plateau
  • Nacli (Good for the gym now, and a large rock tank and crusher could be good in the future.)
  • Drilbur (You can't go wrong with a ground type, and Excadrill is absolutely fantastic in both power and typing.)
  • Pawniard (Steel good for bug/normal types, Dark is a type we don't have yet, knightly, and Bisharp is great but Kingambit is even greater, I'd love a Supreme Overlord.)
  • Tinkatink (TINKATON, also types we don't have yet, some of the best typing combos ever, fills up that physical attacking niche, but also TINKATON.)
Ruins
  • Yamask (I like ghost types, and Cofagrigus is a great pokemon. Unovan or Galarian it doesn't matter.)
  • Charcadet (Knightly, great against bugs, continues our ghost/psychic theme we have, its evolutions are cool.)
  • Gimmighoul (Not only is it and its evolution cute and cool, its also an absolute bastard in battle when it evolves. Downside is that it's another baby on a team of babies and evolving it might be An Adventure.)
Breadbasket
  • Combee (I've recently grown an appreciation for Vespiquen, and am curious to see how it would operate, a flying type is also something the thread has wanted.)
  • Fomantis (I like Lurantis, simple as. Sunny Day would be good for our team.
  • Applin (Fantastic evolutions, another dragon for the team, yuri.)
Forest
  • Deerling (Just a good pokemon in general, nothing complicated about it, it will do its job well. It's also a pokemon we can eventually mount and ride.)
  • Pineco (As far as tanks go it isn't Ferrothorn, but it's a nice second place, and would you really want someone as controversial as Ferrothorn? Have you heard what he's said about gay people back in Smogon?)
  • Teddiursa (Ursaring is a beast and Ursaluna would be even scarier if we find the right kind of peat. We'll probably have to ask Erika for help on that front. I wonder if we can make it evolve under a blood moon?)
Looking at these lists I realize I like the best majority of these Pokemon, good job Arvis! I am in pain trying to decide!

I'm going to have to try and narrow these down, huh?

Another advantage of Charcadet is that it doesn't need a task to unlock it, so we can pick it up first proper day of the FE (which would be the Tuesday I think).

My vote is on Charcadet. Firstly, we can get it immediately, rather than having to try and pass another task first. This means we have time to bond/train with it over the FE before the Gym battle. Secondly, because it's a Fire type that evolves into a Ghost/Psychic type - good for the Gyms immediately but fits with our theming so far. Thirdly, because it's a cool pokemon, with two very neat designs evolutions that require a sidequest to unlock, which is narratively more interesting than just levelling up.
