This is the thread for Touhou; speak all about it that you want to, including games, characters and Fanon and videos.

I'm surprised there's no more activity in this...

I finally played DDC, and I must say I was a little disappointed. The music... well, NONE of the musics really caught my attention. I guess it could simply a question of taste, of course, but... Well, usually there's at least that one time where the music go so well with a boss that you can't help but enjoy immensely the boss-fight, even when you're as bad as I am, and eagerly await to reach that point of the game each playthrough...

So, yeah, wondering if I'm the only one who felt that way.

Don't think so; it's really was from "Average" to "Good" but never "Fantastic!" for me, too.

I liked teh drum, though.

On this note, while somebody is getting to the last game in the series, I am finally getting to the series itself.

My second attempt* at actually, you know, playing games instead of just lurking through the tons and tons of mildly related fanworks went fair bit more smoothly than previous one; sadly, after beating Easy and Normal I hit a ceiling around "Hard" difficulty. If before it was "Every day I am getting better at this" now it's "Every day without results and lots of lost nerves".

Rather dissapointing; observing as I actually get better at playing was a lot of fun. Maybe I need to take a short hiatus and return few weeks or months later.

On this particular note; any more Toho newbs here? Or I am the only one who started playing the games relatively recently?

*First happened a few years ago; I wasted a few days on SA and Ten Desires, but never really got anywhere.

A late answer, but maybe this will bring more activity to this thread :).

One of the problem I have is that the early stages are easy, and so I tend not to pay as much attention as I should (and losing a precious life/bomb where it wasn't needed), or in not being in a good mindset to clear the game when I arrive to the hard parts.

Practice mode is good to memorize the later boss patterns (I know I used it quite a bit when I tried to unlock IN's good ending). Another thing that I found help to improve more without the monotony of an easy early-game is to play at a higher difficulty that I can handle. I am challenged from the first boss, and so hopefully it help me improve even if I can't clear the third stage without continuing.

Title says it all. General discussion, Complaining , recommendations and advice....Everything works!

Ill start, Touhou Labyrinth 2 is both addicting as hell and freaking frustrating.....damn Tenshi, damn Yuugi......

Edit: I´ve been waiting to share this video ever since I found it.

Hmm, so I gotta ask. Is there a good jumping in point for Touhou games? Been listening to alot of the music but other then that I'm kind of new to the series.

Pick a game with an integer number to start out with, if you want to get into the bullet hell series. Those all tend to make good starting points, save for the first one which is the odd one out. Games that have a decimal number are side games to the main series, for the most part.

A wiki exists which is reasonably accurate for the most part.

The graphics get better as the numbers get higher, and it runs natively on Windows starting with number six. Personally, I would recommend starting with Imperishable Night, eighth in the series, as it is rather more forgiving than others.

Touhou 08, 07, and 10. They are the most new-comer friendly in my opinion.

Also, I believe there is already a Touhou megathread. I can't search it right now since I am on phone. I think both of the threads should be merged by a mod.

Err well! Im going to try and beat tenshi in 10 turns.....wish me luck and if you have any advice for it please feel free to share it!

Edit:......I managed to hold out till she escaped but I didnt do enough damage.....Maybe I should fish for the loot in New Game+

If I recall correctly, the best way to take out Tenshi is poison, as it deals damage as a percentage of their hp.

From what little reading I did while figuring out how to get the game, Tenshi uses Sword of Hisou to kill anyone that gets buffed. So... that might help, I guess?

Still seeing if it'll play nice with WINE myself, so I haven't exactly gotten there yet.

Nah I just barely survived the ten turns so Ill leave whooping her ass for later.

Granted if I had recruited Mokou then I could have done that.....

WINE Is Not an Emulator, is what that acronym expands to. It's a program to map Windows system calls to Linux so as to run programs.

Occasionally there are issues, like Subterranean Animism running at about six frames per second, or the first Labyrinth of Touhou game not having any music.

.......Hah~ Well time for some discussion! can I hear your thoughts about Maribel Hearn?

Do I need to finish Touhou Labyrinth before playing the sequel ?

This should be required viewing for any Touhou fan. A guy by the name of MinusT has made 3 3D animations of Remilia, Flandre, and Yuyuko's stages. Needless to say, they're beautiful.

He's looking to release Yukari's PCB stage in 2015, which has her fighting Reimu, Marisa, and Sakuya at the same time. To not clutter up this post with YouTube videos, here's the links for the two trailers he's released.
