Time of the Gods: Into the Amber Age

I say we get big bowls in our shrines and make it our mascot. It sounds cute, in the cuddly way. :V
It's a barely 7 ounce, 2 inch long predator species. It literally fits in the palm of your hand and weighs as much as a handful of coins. It could come with spikes and an actual good-quality growl and you'd be hard pressed not to coo at it.

We must have that octopus.

To those of of you wanting kids I'll see if I can get fiddle around with the plan to get an octopus monster once I get home and off my phone.
I'm okay with that octopus being our spirit animal. Look at how awesome it is!

Just, you know, I really only care about the trait. We can get that in a lot of different ways. Just bringing one up to the surface and forcing villagers to bask in its glory would put it on the table.

By that logic so would having sex with it.

Besides this is not a monogamous relationship, and preferably we'd lay with Saiga first to show good faith.

They're basically everywhere. Finding a Lamprey isn't a problem, it's convincing everybody that we should have kids with these tentacle abominations against all that is right in the world:

Imagine you are out at night on the sea to fish when you hear the cruel laughter of a young woman. You look around the perfectly still waters, but can see nothing except the reflection of the full moon.
You hear the laughter again, closer this time and turn around to see a serpent rising from the waters. Its misshapen mouth is taller then you are and the vicious tentacles surrounding it whip through the air. Searching. Hungering.
On the back of the beast you spot a woman tightly clinging to it's slimy husk. Her lips are purest blue and seaweed clings to her form and weaves through her hair that glistenes like woven moonlight. She looks directly at you with a kind smile, but when your eyes meet it twists into something hideous. She laughs again, spewing water down her front and the beast starts to move.

The next day, a lone boat is washed ashore. Not a single scratch marks it's hull, but when the villagers look inside, they find the broken carcass of a human. The skin is torn, the limbs broken and twisted, but not a single drop of blood is to be seen. The breeze carries a faint laugh to the shore.

Convinced?

It might become a scene like the Dream of a Fisherman's Wife, but there are still weirder origin stories in mythology.

We must have that octopus.

My vote is cheap and easily buyable. All it costs is -1 Avatar for an unknown amount of time~<3

Hmm...ominous, it sounds like the Crone rose out of another dead god?
I think this is the our " significant information" about the [Imprisoned One]. I think we can pencil "find them, with intent to release them in a timely manner" into our innevitable plan to throw the entire pantheon onto it's head.

We might not end up on top afterwards, but considering that the Crone is (probably) an absolute bitch, and that two of her subordinates sound like nice guys, (Saiga and [the Giver]) while the third was imprisoned? We can get away with doing just about anything afterwards! Maybe.

Also, I'd prefer to put off true monster creation until we have a better understanding of what is going on, but it's not a point that I'm really going to fight over.

Edit: Just realized that I STILL haven't caught up with the conversation. HOW?

Well I tried my hand on a plan, mostly because I was bored, but partially also because I'm kinda unhappy with the current plans

take a look at it and give me feedback if you will,

My current one uses 61 DE, which leaves us with enough for new Ambrosia if anybody wants to know and heavily centers around the moonbeam, synergie between actions and the idea that new things generate more fear, along with the hope that there will be a certain synergie between the moonbeam and the reflecting pool ritual itself

@Powerofmind do I need to include the drinking of Ambrosia in the plan, in order for our Avatar to recharge ?

[P] Plan M&M
at least for the moment

[] Moonlight* - The moon shines bright this night, revealing things that hide in the dark. Can cause Weird, also empowers a number of relevant actions (Astrology, Perform (Trickery), Water-element Influence Actions, etc.). Costs: 15 DE
-[] In your territory.
[] Inspire Petitioner - Expend DE to give inspiring visions and dreams to a petitioner who comes to your shrine or prays to you. At 2 Influence, Inspirations are somewhat random in their effects but are stronger than Blessings. Costs: 5 DE
[] Bless Petitioner for Sacrifices - Expend some of your DE to empower those who come to your shrine or pray to you in exahange for more offerings. Current Skills that can be blessed: Astrology
-[] Expend <1> DE on the same petitioner we inspired

[] Study Stars - Study the skies and stars, seeking patterns that will tell you what was, what is, and what may yet be.
-[] Read the Future - Look forward to what has not yet been, but may yet be. Will aid you in a number of ways during the turn, and warn you of potential dangers. Costs: 8 DE
-Best moment for Reflecting Pool
-[] Read the Past - Look beyond yourself to a time before. The world is old and storied, and secrets are buried in history. Helps develop rituals. Costs: 12 DE
- the Geshtef, with focus on the Crone and [The Imprisoned One]
-[] Reflecting Pool - Dedicate greater efforts to studying the still sea and the strange energy you encountered. Costs: 14 DE (reserves two uses of Calm Seas)
[] Direct Fish** - You direct fish to or away from your domain, having knowledge of the temperatures and currents that they prefer. Costs: 6 DE
-[] Drive Fish Away from Saiga's territory, after all we just promised not to kill anybody :p

[] Lay with <Sealion>
-[] Contribute a rank of Avatar to sire an Ur-beast
-[] Contribute <4X2> Sustenance per trait
-[] name him Harzivan (the legend must live on)

but you can't screw with the people getting food from the sea.
That is wrong and we all know it, we just promised that we wouldn't kill them :p

So, since I am going to bed and this quest has a habit of closing votes/updating while I am asleep, I better get a vote out just in case.

[X] Ninjafish
Remember, @ninjafish: Fuck the octopus, not me.

[] Lay with <Sealion>
-[] Contribute a rank of Avatar to sire an Ur-beast
-[] Contribute <4X2> Sustenance per trait
-[] name him Harzivan (the legend must live on)
I was going to say something along the lines of "but what if it's a girl", but then I remembered Harzi's later escapades...

[X] Plan: Marriage makes Gaerig Giddy.

I will support ninjafish's plan. We do plenty of productive things and that's without killing anyone. That's beautiful.

So, plan thoughts.

Moonlight + Reflecting Pool is probably the best way to get a bunch of Legend from Moonlight; I'm hoping for 3-4. That's 29 DE, leaving us with 45. Talking to Saiga is 5. Explore is 10, leaving 30. Read the Future is 8; Inspire x2 is 10; Mortal Demand is free; Blessings for the remainder? I want either a low Vehemence score this turn, or a high one - low for single roll of low-cost stuff (attributes/skills), high for double/triple(??) roll - but to do that, we'd need to avoid trait-gaining actions, which would be bad. Hmph.

So let's try the following... It's not going to get many votes, but whatever. A High Vehemence turn (As high as we can get) without doing much of anything to burn through Legend. I'm hoping to increase Shrine + Influence + Fear this turn, but I doubt I'll get that lucky. Shrine + Influence in second with Shrine + Fear in third.

[X] Plan Take it to Eleven
-[X] Moonlight* - The moon shines bright this night, revealing things that hide in the dark. Can cause Weird, also empowers a number of relevant actions (Astrology, Perform (Trickery), Water-element Influence Actions, etc.). Costs: 15 DE
--[X] In your territory.
-[X] Study Stars - Study the skies and stars, seeking patterns that will tell you what was, what is, and what may yet be.
--[X] Reflecting Pool - Dedicate greater efforts to studying the still sea and the strange energy you encountered. Costs: 14 DE (reserves two uses of Calm Seas)
-[X] Bless Petitioner for Sacrifices - Expend some of your DE to empower those who come to your shrine or pray to you in exahange for more offerings. Current Skills that can be blessed: Astrology, Navigation, Perform (Trickery), Fishing.
--[X] Expend 8 DE on petitioners for Astrology
--[X] Expend 8 DE on petitioners for Navigation
--[X] Expend 8 DE on petitioners for Perform (Trickery)
--[X] Expend 6 DE on petitioners for Fishing
-[X] Wander the Depths - Travel away from your shoal to explore the deeper places. Costs: 10 DE
-[X] Make Demand - You have need of something and you will tell people what you want. Issues per turn: 2
--[X] Your shrine is lacking. Demand that they put their efforts to improving it.
-[X] Meet with Saiga. Each selection costs 0.5 Sustenance. Costs: 5 DE
--[X] Consummate your marriage, but refuse a child for now
--[X] Learn more about him
--[X] Learn more about Niogg (has a maximum limit on successes)

DE Spent: 74/74
Sustenance: 16 - 5 = 11.
Legend: 12:36
Ambrosia: 1/1

Moonlight 'protects' Moon; Reflecting Pool should protect Sea Affinity (As it double-casts Calm Seas). Wander should protect Spirit of the Sea if blessings don't. Mischief is supported by Blessings. Capricious One supported by not doing divine actions against anybody, and only doing blessings in favor of them.

Hoping for a high Vehemence Value. Decent legend gain from Moonlight should put us at ~15 or so to spend. The extra Shrine, though incomplete, might boost our chances for Influence. Likewise, the Demand is hoping to improve our Shrine, and being at the trait cap (currently) may increase our chances of Shrine on the Fearbuy table - there's a slim chance of doubling up on Shrine this turn (~1%?) as things stand.

Spending 30 DE on petitioners for sacrifices is different, and may add as much as eight or nine to our Vehemence for the turn.

I'm willing to swap Wander the Depths for Read the Future or more Blessings.

I'm unwilling to have children at this time, mostly because I'm now okay with the whole fish-person/merfolk thing, and having those as a % of our base population/an undersea village in its own right opens up new genegineering options, as our people could theoretically herd the giant crab-squids produced.

If our Vehemence is low, so we don't spend much legend this turn and have a nice reserve for next turn (14+), that's when I'd want to mother an ur-child - so we can spend the minimum legend (6) and not cut our available legend in half (because a number of traits I want are 7-8 legend). Right now I want to not have to worry about accidentally despising a trait or spontaneously exploding, babies can come later (any kind).

The more I think about it, the more I feel that having an Ur-child right now is not the correct decision. So a kick back and learn stuff plan, with some Shrine development and learning about Saiga. Some Blessings to keep the DE.

[X] Plan Not a Teenage Mom
-[x] Moonlight* - The moon shines bright this night, revealing things that hide in the dark. Can cause Weird, also empowers a number of relevant actions (Astrology, Perform (Trickery), Water-element Influence Actions, etc.). Costs: 15 DE
--[x] In your territory.
-[x] Study Stars - Study the skies and stars, seeking patterns that will tell you what was, what is, and what may yet be.
--[x] Read the Future - Look forward to what has not yet been, but may yet be. Will aid you in a number of ways during the turn, and warn you of potential dangers. Costs: 8 DE
--[x] Read the Past - Look beyond yourself to a time before. The world is old and storied, and secrets are buried in history. Helps develop rituals. Costs: 12 DE
---[x] Focus on the other spirits of the land
--[x] Reflecting Pool - Dedicate greater efforts to studying the still sea and the strange energy you encountered. Costs: 14 DE (reserves two uses of Calm Seas)
-[x] Bless Petitioner for Sacrifices - Expend some of your DE to empower those who come to your shrine or pray to you in exahange for more offerings. Current Skills that can be blessed: Astrology, Navigation, Perform (Trickery), Fishing.
--[x] Expend 10 DE on petitioners - Astrology
-[x] Bless Petitioner for Growth - Expend some of your DE to empower those who come to your shrine or pray to you, granting them a bounty of life-giving things. Current Skills that can be blessed: Navigation, Fishing.
--[x] Expend 1 DE on petitioners - Fishing
-[x] Inspire Petitioner - Expend DE to give inspiring visions and dreams to a petitioner who comes to your shrine or prays to you. At 2 Influence, Inspirations are somewhat random in their effects but are stronger than Blessings. Costs: 5 DE
-[X] Make Demand - You have need of something and you will tell people what you want. Issues per turn: 2
--[X] Decorate our shrine the best they can
-[X] Meet with Saiga. Each selection costs 0.5 Sustenance. Costs: 5 DE
--[X] Consummate your marriage, but refuse a child for now
--[X] Learn more about him

Not really? I mean, it sounds like the time we fucked a tree. It comes a bit out of the blue, and without much reasoning IC.

Would it be a deal breaker though?

I mean it makes a bit more sense than fucking the tree, at least this thing has somewhat compatible reproductive mechanisms, and is part of our domain.

Given our capricious nature and the fact that we are literally the sea, this is the one complaint about monster spawning I find totally baseless.

Touché, I will concede this...

Wait.

Capricious One (You are a being of arbitrary cruelty, as well as sudden magnanimity, whose actions are as inscrutable as the path of an arrow in the wind. All failures to enact constructive efforts or destructive efforts produce slightly more Fear Value, 2 legend discount to next Fear Attribute purchase): 5 (4) Legend

We don't have this yet.

Would it be a deal breaker though?

If you have to gut most of your plan to fund this, yes.

@ninjafish, can I somehow convince you to include

--[] Reflecting Pool - Dedicate greater efforts to studying the still sea and the strange energy you encountered. Costs: 14 DE (reserves two uses of Calm Seas)

at the partial expense of these two

[] Bless Petitioner for Sacrifices - Astrology.
-[] Expend 20 DE on petitioners

[] Control Waters*** - You bend the waves to your command, directing them to rise or quiet at your leisure, to punish your enemies, or reward your friends. Costs: 4 DE
-[] Calm Seas

?

I mean with reflecting pool you would have auto calm seas twice and personally I find spending 20DE on petitioners all for Astrology somewhat excessive (Especially when I'm not 100% sure there are still enough people left alive in our domain for all that DE)

We'll drive them insane and I love it
