So long time ago, maybe years back before even getting into Evangelion (and eventually PMMM), I came across a series of fanart featuring Kaworu and Homura as time-traveling buddies in Tumblr. Seeing how I was a big fan of crossover, I quite liked the concept, even if not being that much familiar with both fandoms aside from some amount of similarities they shared in means of theme and overall tone.
A long time went after that, to which one day around 2015 Autumn, I came across this particular fanfic based on this fanart which depicted this crossover again. The fanfic was very intricately and emotionally written - I practically fell in love with it, and motivated me to check both fandoms out (PMMM though in particular).
At one point, I remembered that Majora's Mask had got a 3D remake, and suddenly noticed how Link would fit to the same fan-made world as Kaworu and Homura, due getting to Termina during looking for his beloved friend (Navi), and dealing with time travel heavily himself to save it. The difference being though that he had Ocarina of Time, and apparently made easier progress compared to other two.
So what would happen if this time, things were little different? What if Link couldn't be able to travel back in time?
Well, now having plunged into fandoms, I hope this'll be something fun to read for you all. This place's been very welcoming to me as a writer.
Wish me luck.

Prologue

"You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"
Link felt rocked about as his motionless body fell through an endless, pitch-black abyss. The coolness of the air itched like a hundreds bee stings on his mutilated skin - barely covered by charred, ragged remains of his clothing.
He pondered whether his adamant soul could take anymore - the familiar feelings of loneliness already crept back at him from so many years.
With his eyes becoming more wet, he pinched them harder shut, and waited for the end.
Link couldn't help but groan upon trying to move his cripplingly stiffened body, feeling a cold, flat ground below him. He must had laid there static for hours.
Being used to the various falls on the ground through numerous battles built good sum of parts of his victories in his unforgettable legacy. It's just the ones that rattled him mentally that were able to knock him easily out of cold upon crashing on the ground.
And flying through time after the world literally ends from a huge, agitated moon crashing down before his eyes... that was definitely one of them. If not the most worst experience of it's kind.
Screams of the millions he couldn't save, scattered around him in echoes of pure terror, with some of them mixed even in occasional, disturbing cheers of joy that welcomed this gods-forsaken death. As the air grew constantly hotter, Link firmly covered his sweating hands on his long ears to block it all.
Soon the cries diminished as they drowned into rapidly rumbling quakes, signifying the incoming walls of fire and exploding gravel that would soon rip him apart.
Link shivered. He'll definitely be seeing riveting nightmares of all that probably million times, if he ever found a way to return back to his former life.
In midst of his thoughts, Link's heart had jumped: something was touching his face. A couple of unnaturally cool, smooth fingertips slid slowly down his cheek, soon lifting up.
At first Link's instincts told him to open his eyes - but then noted that while he was laying still on his back, he didn't hear the familiar cogs spinning the waterwheels around him this time.
Probably he was still dreaming some nightmare. He grimaced on how there must had been specters of uncanny valley waiting for him.
Taking a deep breath, Link rose his head up quickly, and hit it hard against the floor he was resting on.
Apparently it didn't work, as he was still busy grasping firmly on the back of his head, enduring the gonging pain after he had comically recoiled up from the ground. The eyes still kept shut tight -an alkaline scent had now reached the awareness in his mind.
Link could still feel the presence around him. Not only that, but it seemed that it was quite bright outside due lighting up the inside of his eyelids. So... where was he?
He lowered his hands, searching for his sword on the waist. Though not before touching his sides a bit. Looks like his body and clothing were back to normal already.
He took a deep breath, held on the handle, and finally opened his eyes.
For a moment, Link just stared bewildered where he ended up to. Before him was - a vast, brightly white hall. Or just a huge room, probably.
Some furniture, like comfortably soft and white chairs, were littered here and there on wide space. On the end was a gigantic window, where hills of clouds gathered together and floated far in the clear sky.
Link curiously shook his head, only to gasp during turning left.
Next to him, was a person that while he never had met before, felt even stranger to him to witness. He looked to be a teenager, yet had frankly unnatural features seen on a human being: a grey, silky hair, and brightly crimson eyes accompanied a very courteous smile upon seeing Link apparently get up.
It didn't a second before Link was already back to contemplating if he was still inside a crazy dream still. If so, this wouldn't have been very surprising. But he already hit head back there. So what was going on?
He looked to his right this time. In front was what appeared to be a white uniform with a grayish purple skirt beneath it. As he slowly looked up, Link was greeted with a concentrated, yet sullen gaze that belonged to a girl - probably also a teenager.
She had a smooth, long black hair, while eyeing over Link with dark purple eyes, quite befitting rest of her monochromatic look. The chilling air she gave - it contrasted quite well with the friendly, open aura of the boy next to him.
"□ ♓⧫ ●□□&⬧ ●♓&♏ ⍓□◆❒♏ □■♏ □♐ ◆⬧."
She too?
A wave of confusion forced Link to slightly shiver now. Where had he even ended to?
He tried to speak himself now.
"Can you tell me where I am?"
Both the girl and the boy yielded a little different reactions. She tilted her head briefly while frowning a fraction in confusion. The boy's warm smile had now disappeared as he stared surprised on what Link said in anxious tone.
Apparently, they didn't seem to understand. The girl replied now in a cold look.
"✋ ♎□■⧫ ⧫♒♓■& ⬥♏ ♍♋■ ◆■♎♏❒⬧⧫♋■♎ ⍓□◆. "
Link breathed in like he had just gulped, thrown off-guard with sudden growing terror inside him. Whoever these were, didn't entirely help him recover from his rattled state of mind. He slowly rose up, but took steps now back from both.
The silver-haired boy had now tried another smile at him, before opening his mouth again.
"✋⧫⬧ □&♋⍓ ⬥♏❒♏ ■□⧫ ♑□♓■♑ ⧫□ ♒◆❒⧫ ⍓□◆."
As much as that was spoken to him in a reassuring tone, the foreign language just freaked him out more - especially in this alien setting. Link kept on taking steps back, glancing now over his shoulder.
At the other side of the room appeared to be a wall with doors aligned next to them. Two of them were something he hadn't seen before - like translucence trapped between rectangular, grey borders.
In between them however, was something that made Link hold his breath for a moment: a two huge wooden doors closed together, complete with various red markings emblazoned on them.
Without hesitation, he ran towards the doors, opening them up while ignoring the shouts from the teenager boy behind him. Rays light spread out of it: in which he took a leap of literal faith and fell down.
Whatever was this experience, and gods-forsaken ones before it... he begged that they would cease to torment him anytime soon.
interesting. though I don't think you necessarily need to make things harder on Link. It would very interesting seeing the difference in perspectives that would cause. besides, i wouldn't put it past Link to try and help the other two at some point, and finding himself in a situation that he can't solve with badassery as usual.

Possibly. The conflict behind why he lost his Ocarina was to make him fit with Kaworu and Homura better - if maybe even provide a twist compared to what they can do (he can't himself influence Termina anymore and progress as much as he used to), revealing an interesting story that will open up later on.
In any case, things won't be like this to him for long.
Writing first chapter just soon - was now finished with a one-shot after a pretty kiss-filled omake to one of the more popular fanfictions in this forum. Been playing Majora's Mask 3D extensively while at it.

Heh. The fanfic that inspired this is a big deal and basis to this fic, so yeah.
On the other note, good news: I managed to sit down on my current tutoring schedule and resume writing today. Gonna bring in next piece here around Thursday-Friday.
Looks like things got longer than expected - but I found another Beta from FF.net to look after my texts now.
I'll drop in some snippets of what's to come so you don't have to stay hungry all the time about~- @Timerider@SpeckofStardust.
"Wake up!"
Tatl had been suddenly pretty busy since coming out from the doors of Carnival Tower - and finding Link somehow wound up between both doors, still in a deep sleep. Painstakingly she had moved him out, pinched his cheeks, tickled his nose, rubbed quite hard on those pretty sensitive Hylian ears... yet Link still kept irritatingly adorable dozing face. "Gaaah! How am I still stuck with a lazy bum like you?! Get up already!"
The yellow shimmering orb now pulled back before tugging her wings, to charge head-on to young boy's forehead. The next moment Tatl had bounced of it, making wild spirals through her flying trajectory before regaining control just above the ground. Fortunately enough she saw Link now rubbing his head with a quite loud groan.
"About time! You've been passing out there for maybe 20 minutes or so!" Tatl's shimmer puffed then up in irritation until it bellowed down with a sigh of relief. "What happened to you there?"
Of course Link was already contemplated this, pouting a bit at the fairy's direction little as he rose up and glanced down at his body.
At least his hopes were answered, returning him back to good sum of familiar already: Tatl still staring at him waiting peeved, those carpenters already at work to build the "Festival Tower"-thing behind her and that white dog now yapping and growling at the fidgeting Business Scrub trying to shoo it away from his "private" property.
However, all of Link's memories were still pretty hazy, and unsure of what he had just witnessed while probably passed out according to Tatl. He squatted down.
"Let me lay down a little bit... Need to collect up myself. Can't remember a thing..."
Tatl now tilted a bit, looking all over Link. It's like he had just woken up from being dead.
"Yikes, maybe you need to get some sleep..." she remarked, turning her back at him, "At least with your instrument, we can have plenty of time later to get going."
Plenty of time...
Wait.
Link instantly dug in his pockets.
"Oh- my---- fucking goddess..."
Tatl was quite thrown aback by the boy's sheer explicit words.
"D-did... something happen?"
Link suddenly fidgeted a bit on place. Then noted how Tatl apparently hadn't faced to his direction a moment ago with her wings on front.
"Uh... yeah! That's right!" he said in uncharacteristically sheepish tone, "I... saw a nightmare. About um... uh, you know - the goddesses were screwi-"
"Yeah yeah kid---- Just... stop there. And don't say any further word," murmured Tatl, creeping now slowly away from the boy. "Let's just get you Red Potion or something. I think I also could use beauty sleep for once..."
With a yawn, Tatl flew off to the west entrance, with Link slowly following along. He was concealing a pale, nervous stare away from everyone, directing it to the ground about despite getting the attention of the dog he passed by. The Business Scrub took this moment to pack up his things and fly away.
At the corner of the ceiling, went few clicks on a lone speaker. Soon a very slow elevator muzak came out, filling the entire terminal-like room.
Kaworu, sitting currently besides a wall, caught it lovingly on his ear and let it fill his entire body. A pleasant grin slowly rose as he waved upper body to the beat.
Sometimes he had wondered who had built such a place like this, leaving also this speaker to play these... strangely relaxing songs. They sounded bit like ones he once heard from a certain SDAT-player long time ago, except much, much slower. Haunting. Otherworldly.
Even better was how this music managed to stay so fresh as the first time he emerged to this place, all alone. Since then, it usually helped him to collect up like this after possibly another one of his countless failed time loops.
The ambiance got broken however: a distinct sound of gears winding up had now ringed through the room. Kaworu then heard automatic doors open to his right.
He could only frown in pity upon watching the girl plodding in her steps towards the white sofa, shaking feebly like she had just emerged from being dead. Her uniform dissolved into violet dust, revealing a cream-colored school uniform within.
She fell on it with a heavy slump, blinking briefly before letting her eyes almost about to drift to sleep, staring emptily at his direction.
It didn't stay that way for long. She grit her teeth while gloved fists curled, rest of her face now rigid of growing despair.
Kaworu wondered what to do. He turned at the vending machine some meters to his right - then glanced at Homura inquisitive, waiting. Sadly she just turned her back at him, staring at the sofa's paddings instead and letting pained tears flow down her cheeks.
Kaworu shrugged and shook his head, deciding on biding his time.
A long while went until Homura's restrained sobs soon subsided into quiet, steady breathing, prompting him to get up.
He dispensed out two cans of coffee, placing the Mocha-flavored one near the sofa where the fellow Time Looper had curled herself on. With a melancholic sigh, he sat down, opening his can and sipping it - sometimes staring observantly over her.
Unlike what most would expect, seeing Homura sleep wasn't anywhere pretty: all the mercilessly beaten vulnerability that this poor girl finally showed during it... Kaworu realized how frighteningly long it had just been when she would ever resemble the shy, but kind girl he met after he had just made home in this room. A tempting feeling of care rose within, reminding him of Shinji who was still waiting his salvage.
Kaworu started to then wonder just how much he has possibly changed over his failures as gradually - until now.
Full piece is gonna be worked throughout the weekend and might drop tomorrow or Monday- it's little difficult to drip in inspiration, but I better try to plan the weekly-ish updates on this thing again.

Me too! I first had thought of Kaworu coming after Homura had went through the 4th Timeline, but later on decided for the consistence's sake, keep it a bit other way around. So far, it's provided more than the initial concept.
As of late, I got hit by a harsh writing block during reworking up the current storyboard for the entire fic, especially regarding the next chapters ahead. Still, I went on and tried to continue completing the first chapter, which had rather "difficult" plot for me to write seamless and sensible. Doesn't help that my current work seems to make it difficult to converse my free time well (since being at home is starting to be little bad, I still live with rather "tyrannical" mother.)
Soon closing about 4000 words, and I have last major paragraph still needed to be written out. I'll then proceed to the polishing stage for the entire chapter after that. Dunno if to drop promises - instead I'll use that time to get back to finishing. Sweetest thanks for support and interest however, I'll keep this afloat!
EDIT: Oh yeah, the beta I spoke to a while back in FF.Net hasn't strangely answered for a long while. Might try to drop a contact on her but I'm little afraid the beta's little unreachable due mentioning about being busy.
