Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

So, does this smell like a setup to anyone else? Looks very much like someone is trying to wreck the alliance between Bai and Cai before it can get off the ground.

As for tactics? Well, this is clearly not someone we want to face in a straight fight, but we do have backup. Best thing I can think of is to try to keep him locked down

Yeah, I think at this point that our best move is to detonate Traveller's End to eradicate the chaff, then legion up with Renxiang's reinforcements and wait for a chance to flank the Bai sniper. He basically gives a legitimate fig-leaf that lets us actually get killed here and have the blame officially fall on the Bai. Since I expect he's actually a genuine Bai border baron who had the stupid Bai pride played by Sun sleeper agents enough to pull this off to try and torpedo the alliance.

We can't jump three stages on our own, and since he's an actual full-blooded Bai, we can probably expect at least Count level art packages--so we can't expect to punch up on quality. We need to get into RenRen's buff chain and use that to get set up.

I don't think this guy is a false flag or being totally played by the Sun. The Bai are notoriously touchy and isolationist, so this is probably some minority faction dude who wants to prove that the alliance wouldn't work out anyways. He did probably get some extra info/covert support from a Sun shill, but it's not like the Bai are unanimously approving of the alliance.

Uhhh why? The chaff only mattered when he boosted them, if he is busy fighting Cai Renxiang and friends the chaff is a glorified qi battery.

Because the chaff are secondary, clearing the board and Lunatic Whirling the leaders while they're stunned turns them into qi batteries for us, which is probably more effective.

Getting into the RenRen brand buff chain also helps pull us up--but we can't count on our quality to keep up in the face of a Bai expert at Green Framing, so we can't risk approaching without the support of a platoon at our back.

Like, this is a reversal of the earlier phase of the fight--anyone who gets isolated just sucks and dies.

OK, so, thoughts:

Using Hoarfrost Refrain the woman leader escaping with troops in the mist means we get all our Qi back thanks to the Qi leech. We really need that Qi.

The opponent only has A pen for his attack, and A avoid for spiritual. We are really lucky in that if he truly is a Bai, he is a really low ranked one. Using Echoes means that his pen would be B to our B armour, and our S.Hit would be S to his A avoid.

Detonating TE can be nice, but we might want to ensnare him first, no reason to not give him B rank damage too.

Hard to make physical contact with a ranged specialist who has S-rank Physical Avoid.

Theoretically the Echoes of Absolute Winter can buff up the hit of Dark/Water tech by one rank, so if Cai and her army debuffs him enough Ling Qi can land the finisher.

Clearing the board is the very opposite of restoring Ling Qi's qi, she is better served by letting them muddle in the fog helplessly while she drains their qi with Spring's End Aria.

"Can't expect peasants to do a Bai's work I suppose," she heard him sneer as he began to once again pull back that monstrous bow.

Can't tell if really obvious attempt to frame the Bai, or this is an actual Bai sub-faction and their social is really that bad lol.

Either way, don't get the feel this guy would be amazing at SP defence, so with CRX assisting may not be a huge problem.

Assume we're gonna pop Traveller's End SP attack now (goodnight bandit army, was fun dancing with you), wonder if there's some way we could force the Framing enemy into it, and would it be worth it?

Edit: Two more thoughts. First, Meizhen is gonna flip lol, maybe Mom too in a more saddening way.

Also, wow if we do pop the TE SP attack, how is that gonna look to the army following us.

"Whohooo, we finally caught up! Now it is time for glorious combat agaisnt these vegabonds!"

*Ominous mists abruptly fade away. All the bandits are laying motionless on the floor.*

"...Fuck."

I say we lay down some HoTDW buffs to Cai and company:

Summer's Day Rising - bolstering allies significantly against spiritual attacks and deceptions; for each ally affected the user receives a small boost to Combat Perception and Spiritual Avoid.

Industrious Labors of Fall - bolsters the armor, health and Resist of listeners.

As well as extend TRF to Cai and company.

Maybe break out Watchful Moon Analyisis to give us a better shot at attacking the Bai (or more likely tripping him up until CRX can bust out something big).

I don't like the idea of detonating Traveller's End. We should use Hoarfrost Refrain instead, targetting one of the Greens - that simultaneously does a lot of damage to them, while dealing a more manageable amount of damage to everyone else (that hopefully won't turn them into bleeding gibletts) while draining away their Qi.

If it was a Bai of their own accord for some kind of political goal, they wouldn't be here as themselves. What with it opening them up to retribution from the big Bai, who would be ludicrously pissed about his own people sabotaging his attempt to get an alliance.

So.

TACTICS FIFTEEN

[ ] Plan: The Might of the Cai
-[ ] Begin the Spring's End Aria bolstered with Echoes of Absolute Winter (With relevant Arts augmented with Joyous Toast), and go on the defensive as the Cai Platoon reaches combat distance, while trying to drain the Qi of the retreating enemy elites and keep them in our dome to help support our stand, making use of Hoarfrost Refrain's Qi Drain to help top up. When Renxiang's forces join battle, detonate Traveller's End to seal the deal on the bandit force. Take advantage of the paralysis effect to capture the two lesser Greens in Lunatic Whirl (And if there's a reasonably strong other survivor, adding them as our third), neutralizing and draining their remaining Qi to recoup our losses. Cooperate with Renxiang and her force to get an opening to engage the enemy expert, and do our best to land a full force blow from Call to Ending if we can as our keystone contribution, unless we're requested to do otherwise.

Whilst I think you're probably right, never rule out human stupidity.

He's an adult Green Framing willingly fighting in the presence of Cai Renxiang, that proves that level of stupid is at least possible.

Still, probably right.

You know, for someone 3 stages ahead of us, this guy has remarkably poor Qi and Initiative - being about the same level as us there. We're probably going to be best off playing support to CRX, and just running out the clock on his Qi while giving him a doot every now and then in his relatively weaker spiritual defenses to hurry things along. I'm pretty sure our supporting extras can handle theirs while our mist is still up, so it's just a question of whether we can tag team him with Renxiang.

Remember we aren't the only people here.

@yrsillar my read is that Cai and our forces haven't entered the mist yet? But when they do, we'll have to burn a pile of qi to shield them from it.

I don't disagree about the value of trying to get some of our qi back with HC, but I do think a case can be made for clearing the board to push the numbers in our favor.

The big issue here is that we really want us and Renxiang to have backup when trying to fight this guy. We don't want to have our troops bound up trying fight the others at the same time.

Detonating TE clears all the mooks, paralyzes the greens, and clears vision for CRX and her company, allowing them to see the Bai with the package.

Then use lunatic whirl on the paralyzed Greens, which keeps them out of the fight and drains their qi.

After that I don't know what to do.

Yeah, letting our actual War trained liege take the front and act as her backup seems fitting with our first job being done. We stopped them from reaching the border, and forced them to commit while on the Emerald Seas side.

Yeah, this doesn't seem like an actual Bai to me unless this one is ridiculously pants-on-the-head-********. Maybe some of the Bai are unhappy about being taken out of isolation and/or working with Crazy Lite Brite Lady or whatever (Perhaps they're using this as a pretext for another grudge?), but they wouldn't be that stupid to announce themselves or do this in person because that would get Meizhan's Aunt and the other Bai higher-ups to come down on them like a ton of bricks if they were ever found out/captured alive for endangering the alliance (and maybe attacking Meizhan's friend). The Bai are absolutely isolationist and not that great at social from what little we know, but they aren't goddamn utterly stupid like this fool. This reads more to me like a Sun false flag, but they underestimated (per usual) Rexiang and Qi.

Sun Patriarch: "I would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for you meddling kids!"

I am against any plan which suggets to just straight out kill 70~ people because Ling Qi is too lazy to take a step back and let the fog continue without her in it, especially when Ling Qi herself was discomforted by the thoughts of just killing them.

All the rest of the bandits (including the green) are already disabled by the fog, the Bai dude is the only person who is a threat and the fog is self-sustaining; There is no reason to detonate Traveler's End.
