[X] Invite Xuan Shi to help you with building his breakthough nest. Surely his knowledge will improve it
[X][M] Ask Cai Renxiang to put it up for auction
[X][M] Ask Cai Renxiang to put it up for auction
That's a thread joke from last time around. We never did actually confirm what he was reading, except the one time, which was formations research.[X] Invite them both, why not? They don't have any conflicts, right?
[X][M] Ask Cai Renxiang to put it up for auction
Isnt Xuan Shi a fan of this worlds version oftrashpocket novels? Them meeting might allow Xuan Shi to direct hiscreepyhealthy learnings towards Xuilan.
Hmm, not sure where you're getting your information, the Xuan are a ducal clan so Shi outranks Xiulan. Also don't think he particularly stands out as someone with trust issues.Xuan Shi is of fairly low standing while also having trust issues and Xiulan is aggressive and obviously Noble.
Yep, didn't expect anything less. Can't be making our almost impossible task easier can you?Cai Renxiang glanced up from the notes. "No, they have been instructed to limit their aid," she said quietly.
Of course. Ling Qi almost wanted to sigh. The duchess would not make anything easy for them.
More Arts! Yes! I love arts, and I can't wait to see what the head archivist finds in the archives that he believes might suit us. I'm sure there may be one or two arts that will be a great boon. It will be interesting to see what we get in relation to what we see in the Sect's archives. It might be a nice data point to compare the archives."I have also instructed the head of the Cai families archive to search out arts which may suit your inclinations. That may take some time to complete, and the results will be limited… I may only take so much of the head archivist's time and resources."
Kind of figured, but it is good to get confirmation. Getting a minor connection to the Weilu conservatives might be useful, but there may be other scions from the Meng area in the Sect if Shen Hu is, something to look into. We already have a minor connection to the Lu, and forming a connection to the Meng would probably be very valuable.Cai Renxiang frowned in thought. "Your opponent from the preliminaries? He is a scion of a small baronial clan in Meng territory. No one of great importance, but I suppose his personal skill makes for a useful connection."
This is interesting. It seems to signify that Cai Renxiang is enjoying an activity that the Duchess didn't actually want her too, but is willing to accept her enjoyment of it. Hopefully she can keep her interest in tea flourishing and keep developing her sense of self outside of what she believes is programmed into her by the Duchess."I definitely want to see that place one day," Ling Qi mused, struggling to picture it, a tree big enough to be a mountain. "So, why is tea so important in Emerald Seas?"
Her liege was silent for several moments as she sipped from her cup. "It is in truth, a holdover from the days of Weilu rule. Their founder Tsu the Diviner, mastered the secrets of weather and seasons, and allowed his people to grow their food from the earth. Tea plants were among the first domesticated this way. Those early blends were of practical use… they fortified the drinkers health and warded off sickness."
That made sense Ling Qi supposed, even she knew boiling water helped remove some of the impurities that could make you sick, if you could make it have medicinal value and taste good at the same time, why not? "So it's a habit that stuck around then?"
"In simple terms, yes," Cai Renxiang replied. "It became a mark of status to grow especially flavorful and desirable plants on your land, and remains so to this day."
That or rotting poison because poison and medicine aren't that far off.Yep, didn't expect anything less. Can't be making our almost impossible task easier can you?

Additionally, it makes me think that the seeds we got from the New Moon Quest would make some great tea and maybe a mark of status for our fief. I'm not sure exactly what those seeds will do, but knowing that tea was a cultural part of the Weilu it would make it more probable that seeds found in a Weilu tomb would be seeds for a tea plant.
All in all, it was nice to further develop our knowledge of Cai and the relationship we are growing with her. Here's hoping further relationship development!
Well, it would be unfortunate if it wasn't a medicine, but I'm sure there is a market for potent poisons. That or rotting poison because poison and medicine aren't that far off.
