[X]She would make her successor a song of deep winter, the cold that cannot be banished without hearth and kin, a thing of purest dark and cold(+2 Expression XP. Sets the Successor themes toward Persistence and Power.)

I don't want to add water in and I think the 1st isn't really our theme. This one jives really well with our community/isolation domain as well. Our domain effect can isolate people and then deploy this when we've already isolated them and there is nothing they can do. Feels very potent.

My reasoning hasn't changed, and people are overstating how much offense we will "Lose" by picking something other then option 2. Yrs has said it'd stay offensive yes? Purification can just as easily be deadly as deep winter, see the Cai arts as an example.

Okay, so FSS+ is supposed to be based on our insight, and our insight is about Endings and Beginnings. It's about Cycles and Renewal. So FSS+ exploring those themes in a broader context is what I'm going for. I'm voting for something that works with our insight, and then I'm voting for 1 too because of Hanyi. Yrs said FSS+ is going to do lots of damage either way, regardless of the vote, so I'll still have my debuffs. Plus, stealing our enemies' buffs and using them sounds OP, and fits Ling Qi's fighting style more than ADD MORE POWER!!

If we want Persistence, then we should focus on UGM. 2 just reads as UGM+, except you're exchanging the glacier to winter in general, which is something the art already *does*, because SoI used to be part of it before it was split.

Edit: And really, I don't see how 3 is about Spring? It's about transitions and change. It's literally a mirror of our insight. Unless, ofc, our insight mentioning Spring also makes it Spring. And I really don't get the argument about 3 forcing Zhengui in. Yes, it fits some of his concepts, but ultimately, it's about our insight.

There are endings and Endings, only the very last one is final. Just as winter ends in spring, small endings are new beginnings. (Cycles, Ending Creation.)

Purity is a ridiculously offensive concept, especially for LQ who is all about greys and who has encountered Shenhua first hand. It's destruction incarnate, more destructive than even the End.

Of the options, 3 probably has the greatest offensive potential. 2 comes close, but it presupposes its failure.

Just for the record, since people are raising concerns about the elements in Option #3:

Lena27Today at 3:44 PM
i kinda wanna ask Yrs a literal that bit in option 3 about the Water is edit: @Yrsillar. is Water like actually gonna be an element if that option were to win? (edited)

YrsillarToday at 3:47 PM
its leaning more toward the water side of cold

but you guys will still be tweaking exactly how the effects and aesthetics end up so I can't be exact here

I.E the themes of water as a an element, the stubbornness and relentless change and whatnot

flazarazzadazzleToday at 3:48 PM
Assume it's same for 1

YrsillarToday at 3:48 PM
yes

cold is kind of an amalgam of water wind and dark themes

Lena27Today at 3:49 PM
umm. right now the description gave me the vibe that it was more spring-themed than winter. is that the case?

YrsillarToday at 3:49 PM
its the end of winter

YrsillarToday at 3:52 PM
or to be more clear Lena and others its meant to be about the way the cold and the winter kill things and end the year, making things pure and new for the spring to come, that's the theme there

This option is an interesting one since it builds on Zeqing's ambush predator motif and ties in well with Ling Qi's stealth skills. It develops Ling Qi's techniques demonstrated in the group battle of the 1st year tournament and would emphasise those techniques for the future.

[ ] She would make her successor a song of deep winter, the cold that cannot be banished without hearth and kin, a thing of purest dark and cold. (+2 Expression XP. Sets the Successor themes toward Persistence and Power.)

This feels like it is the option most true to Zeqing and Ling Qi as it focuses on Zeqing's identity as the heart of the blizzard, and the Ling Qi's traditional combat approach of grinding down her opponents before ending them. The persistence approach to combat is well established in the narrative and providing mechanical support for that would be helpful imo.

I feel this option is really out of place - Ling Qi is heading towards this type of theme, but she still has a huge distance to travel to get there. Additionally, this feels like a totally new art, rather than a refinement of Frozen Soul Serenade. This option also feels like it is a total rejection of Zeqing, which seems very out of place given our choice to create the successor art on the anniversary of Zeqing's passing.

Yrsillar said on discord:
So no matter which option we choose getting hit by FSS+ is going to remain a horrible experience for our enemies.

I never doubted that, but my main issue is that it's still a case of shifting part of the power of our main (only?) finisher into utility for the sake of flavor!

I feel like if we wanted our successor to be about renewal, we should have found an offensive art about renewal, instead of diluting and altering FSS until it becomes unrecognizable.

[X]She would make her successor a song of deep winter, the cold that cannot be banished without hearth and kin, a thing of purest dark and cold(+2 Expression XP. Sets the Successor themes toward Persistence and Power.)

I defy anyone -in a friendly manner- to argue that this isn't truly LQ's answer to ZQ's winter, knowing everything we know.

Okay, so I'm going to expand on all of the options here, or at least detail my thoughts my clearly.

1. The first option is about early winters and cold snaps, the sort of cold that appears suddenly and ruins the overeager or underprepared. Its about making the art more focused on swiftness and suprise and thematically leans into and pairs with wind thief.

2. The second option is the closest to how the art funtions now, its about whiteouts and blizzards and deep unrelenting cold that can only be withstood in groups and within static defenses, this is more leaning into Ling Qi's field effects and domain abilities, it pairs well with her isolation tech for example. Thematically it holds steady on winter being a cold and terrible, it remains fully in the wheelhouse of being Ling Qi's weapon of war.

3. Is about the the end of the year, its winter as punctuation and erasure, purification of the world and return to zero, after which comes renewal and growth. Thematically it leans into the cycles thing you've all been poking at and leans toward the new beginnings bit of your insight, and support elements of Ling Qi's arts.

Finally, this is only the first vote, whatever is chosen you still have more choices on aesthetics and effects coming up.

Because Ling Qi is, in part, about building a Home... and this offers a direct statement of why a Home is an important thing to have.

3 is about murdering the world. It is a perfect encapsulation of Zeqing's End, with the only difference being that LQ acknowledges that most of the time something will eventually replace the people she offed.

I have really enjoyed Ling Qi being pants-shittingly SCARY, and floods, purification (offense), and renewal just aren't part of that aesthetic for me.

This one reminds me of the wild blizzard spirit we steered clear of in our trek south. Unpredictable, uncontrollable, untouchable, we engulf you in Freezing Chaos. A bit more heart-attack-inducing than pants-shitting dread, but still heavy on the Fear.
Picking up The Silent Arts with Shu Yue to improve Vanishing would make this combo additionally ludicrous.

Ah yes, this is the good stuff. You will die cold and alone! This cold is something I lived and suffered and it is Real, and Coming For You Always Every Year. The wording really reinforces the great combo it would get with our Mist. Depression Spiral + Seasonal Affective Disorder
