Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Since having two techniques called Songseeker's Eye and Merry Moon's Eyes would be weird how would you feel about Songseeker's Regard for the divination Technique? Regard means the action of looking at something, though it doesn't specify sight like many of it's synonyms and is more about giving something ones attention. It means to not just look at it but to consider it in depth, to try to understand it perhaps from different perspectives and to judge its worth from these things. Which is perfect for a musician and philosopher like Ling Qi and fits with her Intensive Focus and the way she and we judge our priorities be they threats, opportunities or things of personal worth.

It also means to have respect for something, to hold something in regard is to value it and have some affection for it, which fits perfectly with the bonus to familiarity as something personal and perhaps Ling Qi's own desire to keep an eye on the things she knows and cares for. Ling Qi and a Songseeker judges things for their worth and pays attention to things they value, and Regard denotes that.

I had a thought about the long-term potential affect of the Constellations Accompaniment (presuming it wins the vote), is that it becomes a defining family technique. Each generation supporting the next, bringing the whole family up. Rewards for performing well at sect tournaments or other duties could be getting better buffing arts from your parents/aunts/uncles. The drive for wanting to break through into the next realm would then be as much that it unlocks more superior buffs, as soon as you're yellow you can be granted full green arts, etc; as much as it is to just be personally better. That would tie really well into the theme of the constant progress, while at the same time keeping strong ties to family, that we currently have going on now.

Just a meandering idea on how what we choose now will, in the future, be the foundation and defining traits of the Ling Clan in years to come given Ling Qi is the founder. The only other things that she might potentially pass down are:
- Zhengui (there have been some hints that he's really special, are we thinking he could potentially ascend one day and even if he doesn't do we have any idea what his expected life span is?)
- a general winter muse theme
- close vassalage to the Cai's.
None of the Ling Qi's other arts stand out, in that, as we build up the library of arts, her current arts are nice but not super special beyond that they are hers.

Songseeker is, FSS+ probably will be, wind thief might be, and we are yet to get to making our own arts. I still agree with you, but LQ is not devoid of significant arts.

Also, I think Zhengui might have it's own descendents? I don't really know, but Xuan Wu might become something of the family if he can. Which will be an important part of Ling power, given their uniqueness

close vote, I don't mind beeg wisp winning.

But that "Qi Card" idea? No. We're not wasting planning time on all the balance required around utilizing Qi cards on a regular basis especially at our power level.

A lot like Health/Qi potions and other things that were left behind in Red and Yellow, Qi Cards are a bit of a nightmare to math into a setting that wasn't built around them as a central conceit. They're cool and probably very interesting for Reds and Yellows but we're stronger than that and we've no idea what the economy, cost or limitations around such would be should they be retroactively inserted for Green as well.

I can appreciate people being worried that our techniques might overshadow our ally's cool abilities. I would argue that we can do things that our allies can't (Zhengui doesn't go fast) and therefore it's not possible for them to overshadow abilities that don't exist. I would also veto the Qi Card argument on both narrative and mechanical nightmare grounds.

but at the end of the day, we can try to share the secrets with friends in a different art. I'm 100% comfortable having Beeg Wisp snoopin around and slippin past security. Gives a lot of range on our live feed, and a lot of stealth on it too. I like it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I didn't like the boombox, but mischievous stagehands sharing secrets stolen and sung sounds superb as an art. Perhaps a direction for our first custom art? Since it very literally allows our allies to experience some of our strengths in short bursts, which allows us to meld a group into better cohesion without overriding the individuality of the participants. Someone doesn't seem stealthy enough? Here, some stealth. Someone doesn't seem fast enough? Here, some zoomies. Someone doesn't seem diplomatic enough? Here, a breath mint.
Alternately with groups that already have cohesion, we can let our friends pick from a variety of nasty trumps we have. Cleansing blink? Black Mirror? Gain the potential-doppel effect within our PLR? Save ally diplo-fail? UGM bump? Eagle while within our BKSD?
Because it's so personal, it's not something we'd want to hand out to just anyone. However, there's a lot of potential in that kind of sharing of experience and I will put it in the running for "first custom made art"
But... didn't Ling Qi use a qi card filled by Cai Renxiang in the outer sect tournament? They were both already Greens.
Edit: Indeed we did:
Also this is the art contained in the card given to you by Cai Renxiang
Greater Qi Card: Stores a single technique of three dots or lower indefinitely. Techniques stored are used as with the casters full baseline dice pool. Talisman bonuses and auto successes are not included. The user must be within the same cultivation realm as the caster. 3 charges.
-Absolute Empyreal Dictate
The burning radiance of the stars lights in the user's eyes, burning away the shields which grant their target succor from their own inadequacy, and leaving their unworthy souls bare before primordial radiance. On activation, the user initiates a dispel clash targeting a defensive art in use by an enemy with a four die bonus, on success the target suffers one point of lethal semi perfect damage and cannot activate the same art in the following turn. Regardless of success, the user receives a six die bonus on any spiritual attack made in the following turn
A close vote.
I didn't mind either of the winning choices. The stealth focus is good, since cohesion seems to strengthen arts. Plus eyes have more connections with looking at things than at merging with others.
Now I think we should start looking at making an art that allows for sharing techniques or effects with group members. I would tie it with the strength of the connection we have. This thematically fits Ling Qi who doesn't really care about people not close to her, plus it would probably allow for higher power.
In the end we got the idea that our turtle can fly. And why would we not want that, it furthers his duality theme. Growth and destruction. Sky and land. This is a side goal we can now have.
Yes, but that is the last time qi cards were used. Narratively the reason is that qi cards can only hold arts of a certain power or less, and our arts are above that limit. Mechanically they were victims of the mechanics update and just removed from the story.
Ah, I didn't know. Thanks for the info.
Darn, I missed the chance to vote on this one. Oh well, I'll try and be here for the next one. After stopping right after the down under expedition, I just caught up, and Dayum the story got even better. I love the Ice people and their different cultivation system, as well as their entirely different philosophy around cultivation (Which is a generally more sustainable one, in my opinion.) I can't wait for the crew to work out that the confederacy is ruled by what seems to be a senate structure.
Bummed I missed that vote by such a close margin, though I'm fine with the direction it took. Getting more involved with the confederacy is probably the best choice for Ling Qi as a person. Learning their philosophy around cultivation can only do her good. My only problem with it is that it is such a sudden shift. The series has been promising the tournament and then a departure from the sect, focusing on reform of the province after that. Now we are shifting to a diplomacy route, where we will mainly be interacting with foreigners and balancing cultures. I don't mind, but I think in a rewrite or re-release, it needs to be more heavily foreshadowed, some interludes about the White Sky coming to the Caldera meeting, Some more hints that Zeqing is more than just a normal fourth-grade spirit that formed atop White-cloud mountain.
I am still incredibly excited to see what is coming next, and I am kinda happy that we are bucking the trend of ending both quests with a tournament arc.
I think that "Hidden Moon's Eye" would be a better - and more importantly funnier - name for stealth wisps, and that Ling Qi would agree :p
Claiming that a modified Green Art is worthy of that name seems a bit irreverent even for her, even considering that the Hidden Moon came for a social call once. She'd get called arrogant for that, and rightly so.
