Ultimately I think playing to our strengths is better then trying to capitalize on Rong's perceived weaknesses.

I think the trouble with a defensive posture is Ling Qi is obvious weakness. He's not going to go after her as she tried to ramp up. He's going to go after her kids. We can dodge. The turtle can't. It might be different with set up time, but as is? Ling Qi needs to hit him, before he starts removing her spirits from contention. Trust her speed, dodge and spirits to protect her.

I was under the impression that Zhengui largely had a tank build; if our opponents focus their offenses on him that is good for the team. He can soak up a bunch of damage, and in the meantime we ramp up our build enough to lock down the fight.

Mmm, tbh, the votes are a little hard to parse given our arts.

Like, taken literally, Offensive would mean that our only "defensive" buff would be Echoes (Aria won't do much bc Ji Rong is a physical attacker). Which, uh, concern.jpg

Defensive is also a bit weird because it's written as if we have TRF, but we've now switched to SNR. SNR isn't vitality, and we also hit our defensive buff cap much faster now - we've gone from three armor buffs (TRD, HRA, TRU) to get up to just one (Shroud).

Defensively we have:
  • Zephyr's Mocking Escape: our dodge buff. IS upkeep, so might be considered baseline though
  • Echoes: buffs offense and defense, so basically always good to have
  • Shroud: our only group armor buff. Would be very concerned about getting hit without this up.
  • PLR: IPF and EDD. Moar dodge. This is arguably the big defensive element that I would think would differentiate more defensive vs more offensive strategies
  • More situational:
    • Hearth: could be useful if we think he might have dispels and we're trying to sustain our offensive fields more. Ofc, if that's the case then this is also arguably an offensive buff as well, and should be used regardless. Note that trying to shield BKSD arguably doesn't have as much value as one might think due to how it can be automatically activated by Eagle casts, while PLR (arguably more important) isn't affected here.
    • Frozen Walls: small qi drain and spiritual buffs. Probably not wildly useful here. Would not use.
    • HDW techs: we basically never use these, though they could potentially be useful in larger group engagements. Summer's Day Rising is perception + s.avoid, so useless here. Industrious Labours could potentially help Hanyi and Zhengui (probably mostly Zhengui tbh)

We might want to bring BKSD up fairly early either way, to discourage dispels.

The shield is upkeep, we don't need to activate it. Walls is a bit better than that in a long, defensive strategy. It's an essentially unstoppable timer that lets us use our own arts more freely. It is lacking in immediate impact, so we don't use it till we have breathing room from raising defenses.

Yeah, but that requires quite a lot of time. D-rank qi isn't a big deal on our scale - it's much more impactful in group engagements with lower level people on the field.

The dps here is high enough that I wouldn't expect things to drag out long enough for it to matter, and we'd be better off casting HR or Eagle for some more dps.

I think it's more about priorities. Like, offensive will have Ling Qi try to put down Ji Rong as fast as possible while using instant perfect for defenses, while defensive would have Ling Qi trying for a attrition style.

And while Ling Qi's defenses help, they help her a lot more than they help others. He's not "Face full wrath of a Peer while Ling Qi ramps up" tough. And that's assuming he doesn't go after the ice maiden.

What stuff?
Zhengui's only defensive tech is ashfield flowering, the tech where he consumes a stack of ashfall to heal an ally and buff their armor, which has never been used on himself and might very well not work on himself

Zhengui's tank status doesn't come from defensive techs, it comes from being a giant turtle snake, it's not exactly something he has to turn on, he's just naturally big, respectably chunky, armored and has natural regeneration
His techs are devoted to giving him disruption, field control and respectable bite

If for no other reason than a longer fight where both people get to ramp up is both more entertaining to read for me, and more entertaining to watch for everyone that decided to show up for the match.
