There's No Need To Fear, For Iron Man Is Here!

It was dark. Still, his body numb. there was something in the distance, a noise. Frantic. desperate, He had to do something, but then from the dark, a voice said:

"You can rest now."

Rest. That was all he needed to hear. It felt good to rest. But before he could, he felt something from all around him, and that's when the dark receded, when he realized a familiar sensation broke the numbness: Pain. numbed pain, covered by some sort of weight on his chest, and it was dark because his eyes were closed, and people were talking.

He opened his eye-yai-yai that's bright he thought as the sun shone through a window. On instinct, he tried to block it by raising his arm. it was too weak to do so, but without phantom pains he was sure he remembered having

"Mister Tony, are you all right?" a very familiar voice asked on his left, and Tony's Right, I'm Tony. I remember that eyes focussed, looking at the equally familiar stranger at his bedside. He was tall, sharp-dressed in a green suit, looking at Tony with the concern of family. But something was off but no less familiar. The man was bald, when he should still have had some hair, and his skin was red and glossy, like molded-yet-living plastic.

"Vizh," Tony asked through another groan

"Yes sir," the red man replied, mistaking Tony's garbled word, "I'm Jarvis. I was afraid I'd lost you too, if not for them."

Tony looked back in the direction of the sun, two figures now blocking its light. One of the men was also bald, pausing to clean his glasses, and another sense of familiarity hit Tony. Not as strong as Jarvis, but no less the nagging feeling that he wanted to remember this man for some reason.

"My name is Doctor Yinsen, Mr. Stark," he replied, "You gave us quite the scare. I'm not normally a man who believes in miracles but I'll take this one, marginal as it is."

Marginal, Tony wanted to ask, but again a groan, one he recognized was parched with thirst, as Vis... Jarvis, Right. Jarvis helped him drink from a paper cup, before he realized Yinsen was still talking.

"But, we wouldn't be having this conversation if not for David here," Yinsen concluded, drawing attention to the third man in the room. American, by the looks of him. Scruffy, dirty-blond hair, glasses, and a goatee that got Tony's approval.

"Dave Shield," he said, in the sort of voice that said there's bad news, and I have to break it. And break it he did.

"Tony," Dave continued, "By all accounts, you shouldn't be alive. the Shrapnel was too close. we had to..."

And Tony stopped listening, finally recognizing the weight on his chest, what little strength he had was used to pull himself up, and then at his hospital shirt, somehow knowing exactly what he'd find.

Right there, in the middle of his hairless teenaged chest was a circular disk, a faint glow coming from its centre. And the weight IN his chest told him it was an implant, stretching deep, a miniature electromagnet meant to keep jagged bits of metal from shredding what was left of his heart. and back on the outside, Tony now noticed the cabling, stretching to the case on the other side of his bed. Considerably smaller than the car battery he expected to find, but still the sort of thing he knew he'd have to carry around everywhere if he wanted to keep living. It was an obvious problem staring Tony in the face. Tony didn't like problems staring him in the face, especially when the last thing from his dream he could really remember was that something like the universe itself told him:

The reward for being Tony Stark is to be Tony Stark

[---]
So, yeah, blatant spin-off idea to Zaru's Friendly Foreign Dimensional Exchange Student Spiderman!, where Tony get's Isekai'd into the universe of My Hero Academia.

Unlike Zaru and others, I don't have a full plot just yet, but I can share the general outline:

1. This is basically one of the variant reincarnation-type isekai. As far as Tony knows, everything about either his MHA or MCU history is a blur, the latter he rationalizes as a really weird coma dream for the time being

1-A. Jarvis is Tony's legal guardian. Not sure if Howard & Maria died in the same explosion that nearly killed Tony, but if not, they died in the recent past

2. As he goes through the sort of physical therapy a near death experience requires Tony gets to work on the miniature Arc Reactor. he probably doesn't invent Starkium (yet) because Dave is there, as Dave believes whatever attack that nearly killed Tony was meant for him, so out of guilt he helps Tony figure out how to get around the palladium poisoning problem, and serves as his mentor)

3. After recovering, Tony has gotten it in his head that he wants to be a hero, and isn't going to let a little thing like being Quirkless stop him. But that also means on his terms, so instead of applying directly to the hero course, Tony's UA Application is through the Support Department

4. the Support Entrance Exam is based around identifying problems, solutions and applications from observing the Hero Course applicants. Seeing the Gimmick taken out by Midoriya, Tony quips "We have a Hulk."

5. Tony enters support course proper. he and Mei quickly establish themselves as both friends and bitter rivals, likely with Quality vs Quantity as opposing design philosophies. Tony endeavours on his 'secret project' despite Power Loader nixing requisitions like "gold-titanium alloy" (as UA's budget is vast, but they do not have the unlimited resources of Stark Industries)

6. Tony completes his project in time for the Sports Festival, and debuts the equivalent of the suitcase armor (so armor, repulsor ray, repulsor-based jump jets). finally earns his spot on Bakugou's shit-list for such reasons as "shown up by quirkless loser" "Tony gotta Tony, throws enough insults his way" and "Bakugo notices the jump jets look a lot like his own rocket jumps, correctly deduces Bakugo copied him"

7. Tony improves the suit, developing an AI to help run the software. not sure what to call name the AI, with candidates being Rhodey, DummySteve and of course Pepper

Okay, this has... potential. We'll be keeping an eye on how this develops.

Not Friday for the AI? Something familiar, insofar as his Hollywood Amnesia allows?

Stark had a bunch of AIs to choose from when he took FRIDAY in Age of Ultron. Just use the name of one of those.

Well, if you're making this a spoiler for Endgame, shouldn't you give this story a 'SPOILER' prefix?

because this was my first OP to SV, and done because I needed to do something to get away from a very personal loss today. And unfortunately, I don't see a way to back and edit the prefix in

the idea is Tony's 'amnesia' is very contextual, based on the things truly important to him. the AI, he knows, will be more than a program. it'll be his partner, may be even his closest friend. Friday, as in "his gal" may be on the nose, but something in the back of his mind says that's not enough, and so it comes to Rhodey, Steve or Pepper, and almost certainly the latter

I vote Morgan. She loves him 3000.

Tony doesn't have palladium poisoning anymore, SHIELD cured him in Iron man 2, he also had surgery in iron man 3 to get a human heart. No more Arc reactor in his chest..

Who is Dave Shield? Is he somebody from MHA? Yinsen is, obviously, Yinsen, and Jarvis is Jarvis with the appearance, and possibly powers, of Vision (cause he has a quirk, cause it's MHA) but who's Dave?
