The Way Forward: Helping a mortal navigate the Celestial Bureaucracy (Transmigration Quest)

I understand that we may well find ourselves in a world we did not choose? I'm not sure if this is a good idea. At best, this means that it is a world that no one is interested in, at worst, that individual participants actively dislike it, as is the case with me and Cyberpunk.

Im.caught caught between wanting the benefit of a reroll, and wanting to go with the hand we got dealt with

What would B entail?

B is for every 10 points under success, Xiaomei takes a -2 to every stat and skill rank. This is a permanent deduction

That's true. The problem is the enemies need to be able to throw wrenches in, and Cyberpunk has two goals:
1) It gives Xiaomei a psuedo-quest interface. Ties into things
2) .. being a justice minded person works badly there, and she needs to adapt.

That said, yeah, it's also very unthematic.

I think I should just reroll on the voted options then, instead.

I think perhaps in a quest about jumping to different world with different themes, players should come in aware of that risk and be willing to play through adversity to get out xiaomei onto the next one and find fun in that

Because thats what the quest is about, and what you would be joining for?

In fairness, I understand. Like I'm not providing options on the roll for worlds I cannot stand. (wh40k etc.)

Or worlds I think would be too hard to provide worthwhile options for. (Battletech)

Correspondingly, I'm OK with not doing Cyberpunk.

To a certain extent, this is true. For example, I wouldn't complain if Cyberpunk was chosen by the majority. Or if you or Narasan really wanted it. I just don't want us to end up in a world where people aren't interested, because that's exactly how quests in this format die. QM enthusiasm can only last so long.

Hmmm

Well in this case its not that i have anything against that world type, but it just wasnt my preferred vote

Edit: this is probably why i couldnt make a flat vote

Voting for First Transmigration, this time With Feeling
As a note: I do kinda want to do Cyberpunk-ish, but I'm not sure I want to do *Cyberpunk* if that makes sense. It'll be added to the vote options if I figure out a good world. If people have suggestions for the list (I'm going to regenerate it) let me know.

So the winner is: on failure, we revote.

Roll: 1-20 Marvel 21-40 SWTOR 41-100 Pathfinder
Roll: [1d100] 35 SWTOR
Roll: [1d100+30] vs 75; 99

The next world is SWTOR. This triggers a subvote, which will close on Monday (where the vote for the upcoming post will end: )

i like this one, but i dont have strong preferences, aside from being a jedi

[X] a Jedi Knight.
[X] a Jedi Consular.

The Sith are overrated. Although I'm surprised a maid isn't an option. Didn't Xiaomei have some sort of curse/blessing that forced her to be a maid unless she had anything against the master?

[X].. Chiss.
[X] .. Amaran.

The closest option to foxes was provided. It's a pity there is no option with a more appropriate race.

As for time, I admit I'm not that good with the SWTOR chronology. Would I be right in assuming that the options are in chronological order, from earliest to latest?

Sort-of. The first is "vanilla" but the rest are in order (2 occurs before 1) . As for foxes:

There;s no foxlike race in canon TOR, but I'll accept write in options. As for maid - Xiaomei is a maid despite what her character class is. She technically still is, and it'll be more relevant in TOR strangely enough.

I found a fox race here!

Amaran

The Amarans were a sentient species characterized by both vulpine and canine characteristics. The Amaran anatomy included pointed ears; a narrow, bewhiskered snout; a furry body; a bipedal stance; and a bushy tail. As unrepentant hagglers, Amarans made natural traders, especially of non-sentient...
Not sure of when the timing of the worlds discovery happened but if needed slavers taking non-spaceflight capable species is always a thing.

World 1: Land of Keria; Part 2.6.2 -Hyperberetaios 29, Year 217 of the Peace of Tair; [Urgent Times Turn 2] Day Before the Battle of Phoenix City.
QM Note: So, I don't usually do this, but if you're ever curious about what song is in my head when I write this, it's usually something like:
The Road to War or for urgent times something like Zero (From "Ace Combat Zero"), but especially this set: Megalith (Epic Cinematic Rock Cover) I think, for the last one, the original is actually better, but it's easier for me to listen to things where the vocals aren't as prominent when thinking through something.

In any case:

[x] Plan: Tread Carefully revised by Narasan open for review
-[x] Set up a channel that will "coincidentally" take the overflow near the city, giving the city a second river. (1 FP 40 RP) (Small Defense Damage, low morale hit)
-[x] Do nothing. (Medium chance of fire strikes during the siege)
-[x] Fortify the harbor, spending some divine resources to bring it to parity. (-90 RP) (No damage from flanking attack.)
-[x] ... they have enough resources for a good last stand [-1 FP 20 RP]
-[x] Spend some energy setting up ways to pierce that [-2 AP -40 RP] (Very little accuracy loss)
-[x] Protect the shrines. (1 FP 1 AP 20 RP) (Ensures continuing good relations with the Kerian Pantheon, spooks the enemies (more desertions), gives them bad luck.) (Not doing this might injure relations.)

Level Up

You: +1 VIT, +1 STR, +6 Parry, +2 Heal +2 Stealth + 2 Use Magical Device
Xiaomei: +1 DEX, +1 VIT, +6 Spellcraft, +6 Tranquility
Feat Selection: Deadly Reflex: You have a premonition of danger. Any sneak attack triggers an immediate perception roll to make a reaction attack. If this attack is a success, they do not gain the benefit of surprise; "Prodigious Caster" (SRC: L9 Selection) - You have a knack for understanding magic and techniques. Gain +5 Spellcraft, and require less time to learn techniques or spells.

Day 2: 29 Hyperberetaios 217, Year 217 of the Peace of Tair

You finally get a handle on the numbers. 14000 from the Moncolisan Empire. 10000 from the Grand Duchy of Molia.

You have 5000. Maybe.

Keeping them out the walls is of paramount importance. The weather being terrible, full of lightning and rain hurts everyone equally, but you have an interesting proposal from one of the guard companies. Dig underground vaults to secure supplies from attacks. You could even use the civilians to secure them, meaning no less forces off the walls or artillery

- [ ] Dig out and secure and reinforce underground vaults for supplies. (40 RP 1 FP) (Also, tangentially, will act as an early warning for Tunneling attempts.)
- [ ] Dig out and reinforce underground vaults. (30 RP 1 FP) (May be more prone to theft or infiltration.)
- [ ] Do Nothing.

Speaking of artillery, there's been a proposal to build several trebuchets. In this case, it's more assemble.

- [ ] Spend divine resources to make them good. (40 RP)
- [ ] Spend an action point to make them good. (1 AP)
- [ ] Do Nothing.

Of course, the enemy tried to be cute, with a sudden retrocausual explosion in the School of Micca sending it crashing.
[Roll 1d100+82 vs 1d100+40 => 152 vs 137; No loss.]

Or.. would have, had you not stopped it. This deity clearly meant business, and you could tell they were planning to stay incarnated.

- [ ] The Kerian Pantheon was going to enhance Xiaomei, but you should probably also do something. If nothing else, you can give her a bit of power to bend fate. [2 FP] ( Xiaomei is a Fateweaver)
- [ ] ... but does she really need it? You think giving her divine action ability is better instead [2 AP] (Xiaomei will instead be a Fatebreaker.)

It's mid day when the omen appears. Xiaomei was headed out with a skirmisher to protect a particular shrine, and as she walked on the bridge, the sun was eclipsed by the moon and the stars dimmed, with The Jewel of the Heavens shining down on her, larger in the sky than it should be. But to the other armies.. they saw a light shine on Phoenix City. Many look at her in awe, but Xiaomei seems to be determinedly moving forward.

[Gain "Guided by the North Star" Morale increase in Phoenix City.]

The army of the Grand Duchy of Molia.. was utterly demoralized. They were reluctant to begin with, and with this, they decide that maybe, letting people who want to live by themselves and by themselves, despite them being beastkin is worth it. Also, they didn't really have the ability to hold it.. so letting it be Moncolisan's problem..? Well, yes. They retreat. That's one army down.. but one later problem.

[The Grand Duchy of Molia withdraws from the battlefield.]

This actually meant your skirmishers could focus on taking advantage of the other army, now approaching the highlands on the eastern edge of the city. It's there your skirmishers report a worry. A gigantic bomb with enough force to destroy the city even if it only gets near. It'd probably also destroy a lot of land, but it spoke to a sheer viciousness that the skirmishes paid in full.

[Moncolisan Empire forces down 30% to 9800.]

The problem is the bomb is escorted by enough forces that you'd need to do a main action.. before Xiaomei abruptly orders everyone to run back at maximum speed, preparing to intercept. She starts the technique as she begins the turn to run away. The army begin to move forward to chase her..

[Xiaomei attempts a Concentration/Tranquility 80/80 (100/111)
[Xiaomei attempts a spellcraft check to contain the damage and shape it to hit the enemy army, which is beginning to arrogantly smirk. [1d100+39 vs DC 100] => 133; Contained.]
[Xiaomei casts Megiddo -300 Qi; 839 damage to entire group]

Xiaomei also runs away in the same moment at maximum speed as the bomb detonates. Those watching from the city saw the initial black-orange-red fire of Megiddo throw up in the air before a bright violet-pink flash even larger detonates.

[Moncolisan Army now 8100 from 9800, lost all S rank Mages and Knights. Morale severely impacted but loses muted by Divine Aura.]
[Xiaomei makes an agility check (with +40 from Flash Step) vs 839 damage. => 1d100+57 vs DC 99 => 107 vs 99; Damage reduced by 75%;]
[Xiaomei takes 209 damage.]

Xiaomei.. doesn't quite escape the magical fireball, her ears and tail charred, iced, shocked, on stellar fire, with wind damage.. but she does emerge, and the squad beats back best time to Phoenix City, with a new lake forming in the highland swamps.

[The swamps are now draining, and will pose no barrier to the rest of the troops. The crater itself will slow advancing a bit, and only the forward elements will arrive tonight.]

It is about this time when a formal message comes from the Grand Duchy of Molia. They are now neutral in this conflict. As a gesture of good faith, they mention the flanking units have cannonry. (You think you sense divine meddling here.)

[QM Note: I would not assume use of Megiddo during combat, due to it's finicky measures and backlash. Not to mention, the Divine Incarnate is immune to stellar damage.]

[Perception (Watchguards) 1d100+35 => 111] The watchguards alert that they're seeing tunneling, they think, given the movements. They're also seeing magical artillery set up. Do you..

[ ] ... create an underground river the tunnelers will "accidentally" intersect, and when the flood comes, will flood their tunnels? (Delays counter action til tomorrow. Will also flood the fields, but..) (60 RP 1 AP)
[ ] ... the same, but now? (Immediate counteraction, gives the enemy time to also react.) (60 RP 1 AP)
[ ] ... spend an action to make the ground difficult to tunnel through, delaying them by a day or so (1 FP 1 AP)
[ ] ... trust in the arms of Phoenix City, and do Nothing? (Risk of Enemy attacks *within the city*)

... lock onto the artillery and...
[ ] ... destroy it now (50 RP)
[ ] ... destroy it at midnight (50 RP)
[ ] ... destroy it at sunrise tomorrow (25 RP)
[ ] ... destroy it at noon tomorrow. (15 RP)

(Note, the later you wait, the more they have time to lock and sight on to you and attack.)

You think you can risk a night attack to destroy their physical artillery, or supplies.
[ ] ... well supplied and with some divine assistance (1 AP 1 FP 50 RP) (Best chance of success, lowest chance of detection.)
[ ] ... well supplied with no divine assistance (1 AP 50 RP) (Moderate chance of success, low chance of detection)
[ ] ... moderately supplied and with some divine assistance (1 AP 1 FP 30 RP) (Equal chance of success, low chance of detection)
[ ] ... no additional supplies and with some divine assistance (1 AP 1 FP) (moderate chance of detection, low chance of success)

That night..
Xiaomei was patrolling, after being healed. Many of her and her squad mates had had the time to participate in a music event before their patrols, when.. she spotted assassins emerging from the shadows. Immediately raising the alarm, she threw her chakrams, and a combat erupted.

Thankfully, between her and the other patrolling squads, they were all defeated but not without some losses of your elite troops. They look like they short-range portalled in with enough power to bypass the wards. (You again, sense divine meddling.)

Do you ..
[ ] ... use divine magic to seal this? (2 AP 1 FP)
[ ] ... use divine resources? (50 RP)
[ ] ... ask the School of Micca to do so, accepting they'll be impacted a larger degree when it comes to magical attacks tomorrow (1 FP)
[ ] ... let Xiaomei and her mothers reinforce it? (Xiaomei will start tomorrow with 25% less Qi.)

You can do a number of other things, as well.
[ ] Arrange for a number of performances to enhance morale (1 AP)
[ ] Tune up the artillery. (1 AP)
[ ] Build up a complete shield system over th town (3 AP 3 FP) (Will negate so many attacks) (Enable ??? event.)

Transmigration is coming up. Do you
[ ] Allow 1 FP 1 AP to be spent on Xiaomei's arrival
[ ] ... 3 FP 3 AP
[ ] ... 6 FP 6 FP

More resources gives her a better start.

Basically: You lost some resources to enemy action, but you had a 70 roll which would have stopped it from happening. Those resources are back added to the total, meaning you had 250 RP 16 AP 10 FP for this turn.

- [ ] The Kerian Pantheon was going to enhance Xiaomei, but you should probably also do something. If nothing else, you can give her a bit of power to bend fate. [2 FP] (Xiaomei is a Fateweaver)

What exactly are the benefits of these options?

[The Grand Duchy of Molia withdraws from the battlefield.]

Heh. Well. Probably after such a betrayal, any cooperation with the Empire came to an end. Well, at least the Grand Duchy has significantly weakened its main political opponent on the continent.

[Moncolisan Army now 8100 from 9800, lost all S rank Mages and Knights. Morale severely impacted but loses muted by Divine Aura.]

By and large, these guys should have almost no chance anymore. An attempted siege without even being outnumbered twice and with their most elite fighters dead? Divine Intervention is the only reason they have any chance.

It is about this time when a formal message comes from the Grand Duchy of Molia. They are now neutral in this conflict. As a gesture of good faith, they mention the flanking units have cannonry. (You think you sense divine meddling here.)

Hehe. It seems the Molia leadership decided that having a buffer state between them and the Empire wasn't such a bad idea. Now that so many of their people have seen the sign, they can very well say that they understand that the creation of Phoenix City and the new kingdom of intelligent monsters is the will of the gods, and therefore their retreat was not a betrayal. I predict that Molia will try to mend fences with Phoenix City soon if only to reduce the chances of retaliation from the Empire.

If its alright, id like to request to uh...get an update of how this world is doing once we've left it?

Fateweaver vs Fate breaker are a set of roll boni and a all or nothing power that either work to change fate cooperatively or shatter the motion of destined fate.

They have a larger impact on story. It's primary use to be fair is allow her to break canon events on settings.. or rewrite them.
