Chapter 1: Butterfly Flap
Age 738 (Late Year)
Planet: Earth
Location: South City
The Mountain Master was furious as he suddenly decided to traverse into one of his many properties in South City for an unexpected meeting. Those who knew the leader of the Wu Dong Triad recognized that it was not one of his regular temper tantrums when he stomped pass them. Rather, it's a wrath that was similar to a heavy storm that would strike anyone that was blocking him to his destination. So all of the Mountain's underlings gave him plenty of space and tried to stay as part of the background. While those who were recently made 49ers were quickly educated by their superiors to stay beneath his notice or pay the price.
The Mountain Master's sudden appearance surprised some, but after the disaster from last night, it made perfect sense he would be directly involved in resolving the matter. That…disaster from last night went so badly that most thought his anger was completely justified. A rare thought process that only came once in a blue moon, as the Mountain Master quickly moved into the torture room where the one person who screwed everything up was being held accounted for. Everyone in the Triad knew that with his involvement, the traitor was going to suffer a very cruel death. But that was not too surprising, everyone involved could care less about death as it was a common occurrence in the business. And paid it no further mind when the Mountain Master was out of their sight.
As for the leader of the Triad Organization, he went into the room with the blooded snitch who tried to screw the organization and make off with so much money alongside his equally traitorous lover from the Blue Lotus Triad. Who both fucked his established partnership with the rival organization and caused a heavy price of money and blood on both parties. A regular deal that was agreed towards months ago became a complete disaster that soured relations to the point of no return that suddenly.
Only three people were in that room when he entered. Each of these men were people he known for years and were some of his most trusted men. Or at least two of them were trustworthy, after the disaster from last night.
The torturer was nicknamed Vulpes because of his strange interest in wearing wolf furs. He was well known for his crucifixion practices that would kill any man over a slow and painful death. A strange practice used by one of the ancient cities that were long abandoned when the early days of the Five Grand Cities were formed. He was also doing his interrogation duties as professionally as always. With a new cross already prepared for the traitor if he still insisted on being stubborn.
The second man was named Tou. A big and mentally challenged man who was originally from the boondocks before being persuaded to join the Triad. A rather easy hire and the halfwit never even noticed he was being payed the least out of everyone in the building. Not that he could complain because most of his vocabulary seemed to only consist of grunting. He was the one holding
him in his grip and doing all the heavy-handed interrogation. Dunking the head of the traitor several times in the tub of water when the traitor isn't in antagonizing pain by Vulpes.
As for the
traitor himself, the fat bastard was heavily bruised and nearly naked by the name of Wu. The Mountain Master thought little of the now ex-Vanguard. Wu was in his organization for a long time and the Mountain Master thought he was one of the most loyal men in his disposal. A long record of loyalty dating back almost two decades. Even other Vanguard who worked with him for nearly, if not longer, were completely shocked by the betrayal. But after what this piece of shit did last night, the protection he had was
shattered and he was now a dying man at least figuratively. Slowly being ripped apart piece by piece. And even the Mountain Head could tell from his eyes that he knew he was
completely fucked.
The only reason he literally so was because he still had information he was refusing to divulge. Mainly his traitorous partner who seemed to be his secret lover at the expense of both the rival, and the family he was loyal to, and the rather insane plan they initiated to make a lot of money and run away in the night. Only it seems that the plan did not go fully as the traitor anticipated.
"Welcome Master," Vulpes greeted in his smooth and civilized voice. An oddity compared to the gruffer tones of most of his organization. "I am sad to say that Wu is much harder crack than I anticipated. He is unusually tight-lipped about the woman."
"You haven't cracked him by now?" Said the leader of the Wu Dong Triad. "I thought his willpower was pathetic enough to finally reveal the truth after six hours under your interrogation."
"I don't-," said the traitor under interrogation. "-know who-," he said before the giant dunk him in the water tank. "-the fuck-," after another dunk. '-you are talking about!" Denied the Traitor even after all the torture. He was oddly insistent on that lie.
"He has been saying the same thing for hours Master," Vulpes said in frustration. "None of my methods of persuasion work and even the loss of fingers did not help."
The leader of the Triad looked at the man's poor state, the notable lack of fingers that were...removed by some very painful processes that even made him a little pale, before looking back at his favorite interrogator. "Are you absolutely certain that this man was involved with the theft? The whole arrest was very sudden and it could have been a third party who Is trying to weaken two rivals."
"Without a doubt Master." Said the torturer without hesitation. "We even have pictures and some other evidence to prove they were conspiring with each other for months on end."
Vulpes than showed the Mountain Head several pictures of the man being vouchered along with a rather attractive young woman. Secret pictures that displayed the man and woman together at restaurants, shopping centers, and even a few pictures at Wu's apartment in various stages of undress and certain positions that easily explained the extent of their relationship. The time stamp that is automatically made on the back of each photo clearly established this was not a sudden relationship.
Dating back almost four months, which was coincidently when the strange string of thefts was occurring around the city. Tens of millions of Zeni were being stolen from most criminal organizations in South City and no one knew who could have done this, despite the bounty for any information on who the thief was. Of course, a few million Zeni were only pocket change these days compared to a century ago due to inflation. The loss of around
three hundred million Zeni was a completely different story. Especially from the most powerful Triad in South City. That was a painfully huge percentage of most Triad's finances that would destabilize the underworld. Despite everyone being criminals, there were unspoken agreements when it came to big transactions as they could affect everyone in one way or another. For anyone to even break one of these silent agreements was considered a serious crime, and something of this scale would get the perpetrator executed in the most painful way possible. Such a crime was unthinkable and a death sentence and no one expected someone to be so
stupid. Especially one of his
own Vanguard who should know better than to even try.
"That woman has coincidently been located where the heists went." Vulpes further explained. "Since Wu was one of the main people in charge of Drug Trafficking around South City, he would know where all the general trades would occur. The two of them were likely testing whatever method they done to steal money right when deals were going to be finalized. At first the losses were not significant and were believed to be different parties, at worst a new Triad who wanted a piece of the action. However, the new evidence indicates that the two of them have been working together since the thefts first began."
The Mountain Head glared at the traitor in complete shock, which slowly grew into a cold fury at the traitor who did not even have the honor of finally confessing to his crimes. With such overwhelming evidence, there was no way that man was innocent and his punishment for betraying the organization was still far from finished. This still did not smooth his anger because of the other half of the problem.
"We can't find her position, immediately after the disaster happened. Our spies in the airport, harbor, and checkpoints have not seen a woman of such a description leaving South City. Our informants combing through the city can't track her down either. She must have been planning her escape weeks, possibly longer in advance. Or she is very good at hiding and is trying to lay low until the heat on her goes down. Either way, she must be a pro. Who much do we even pay those idiots if they can't do their jobs where it counts?"
This is something that the Mountain Head hated about women these days. Times were so much better when a woman's only duty was to take care of the household, perform their duties of raising sons, and not even
dare try to talk back to their husbands. That damn political movement to make them
equals to men was the stupidest thing to ever happen in Earth history. Now they think they can control men after all this time, when they should have been given a slap for suggesting stuff that would weaken real men. Especially when women like the culprit would throw away men so easily like this traitor once he outlived his purpose. How that traitor would still protect such an unfaithful woman so easily, he could not understand.
"So it seems as if the whore decided to betray you after all." Stated the Leader of the Triad. "After betraying I, it is only poetic that you would face a similar fate." He then punched the traitor in the gut,
hard. The pain on the traitors face indicated that he seriously felt the blow from one of the most painful pressure points he knew. "I will make your death painless if you tell me as much as you know about your whore as possible."
"I never met that woman before last night Shen!" Pleaded Wu even after that injury. "The deal was going as planned and then I suddenly blacked out. I don't know who killed four of our men and the six from the Blue Lotus. She must have done everything by herself." Then he groaned in pain from his injury. "I know better than to even sleep with a woman from a rival Triad, those things never end well."
The Triad Boss snorted at the weak attempt at deception. "You are telling me that a mere woman took down ten men armed with guns and not get killed? Well if you are still going to lie and not reveal anything, your death will not be quick."
The Mountain Head merely scoffed at the idea of a woman getting away with all this. Still this woman was dangerous, even in her physically inferior ways. Unless she somehow was trained in the old way of Martial Arts, but there were no more schools who taught the old arts. The few masters left have not taught students for years and a woman being a master would have stood out like a sore thumb. She probably just had a few tricks that just caught everyone by surprise. Which should no longer be the case.
He then looked at Vulpes with a specific look that only the two of them knew truly meant. "You are free to do whatever you want with this traitor now. I heard everything I need to know. Make him an example of those who even think of trying to deceive Master Shen of the Crane School and leader of the largest Triad in the world."
Shen then existed the room. The sweet sound of painful screams of a traitor were music to his ears. But he could not enjoy the feeling for long as he now needed to do damage control and that was going to cost him much more money and favor. And he hated being completely played at by anyone. Especially a woman who thinks she played him and got away with it. Compared to his former Vanguard, he had a special punishment that would make what happened to Wu look like something a child could come up with.

Age 738 (Near-End Year)
Planet: Earth
Location: East City
Two men were sitting at the bar side of some hole-in-the-wall that was well known among locals for getting most of its sales from selling cheap drinks. It was a place that was famous for getting men who wanted to seriously drink away their frustrations. It was still one of the more civil bars since the local police box was only a few doors away. The same could not be said for the bars in the outskirts of East City which were known to have rowdy delinquents with a strange new hairstyle that used lots of gel.
But the only concerns the two men had were just catching up from the old days. The older man who looked to be in his thirties was drinking among side his second cousin in his middle twenties. The younger man was just drinking his sorrows away. Especially after what happened after the holidays.
"…And then that cheating bitch decided to break up with me after Christmas," the younger man was quietly sobbing. "I should have listened to your advice last year and broke up with her then and there. At least she wouldn't have con me for so long and take what little money I earned from my previously shitty job working tables. Months of long hours were completely wasted and I probably would have been in serious debt for a long time if I didn't get this job."
"I knew she was bad, but I didn't think she was that terrible." Said the older man, on his equal fortune in employment. "And you were planning on telling her that you were accepted for the job at the new alternate medicine company. I still can't believe that we now work in the same company, even if we are in different departments."
"Well after that horrible breakup, I am glad to have something go my way for once this shitty year." The younger man took a big gulp of his third can of beer. "I still can't believe I actually got the job, I thought I did horrible in the interview with that blond secretary." The younger man added in embarrassment.
"You were interviewed by her as well?" Said the older man in surprise. "I thought I did bad as well as I just couldn't seem to lie to her about a few things to make me seem better." The older man took a quick taste of his second beer can. Clearly embarrassed by the direction of the conversation. "I heard that several guys have even tried asking her out, but she dumped them without a second thought. Not that I care, I am happy with my wife."
"Can you please stop talking about dating right now, that is the last thing I want to hear about right now." The younger man emptied his third can of beer and yelled at the bartender to get him another can. "Can we at least talk about work, I don't want to hear anything on relationships for a long time." Said the younger man in denial, still heartbroken from the bad breakup.
"Sure coz," said the older man sympathetically. Bad breakups were the worst and he went through four bad ones of his own before meeting his wife. His younger cousin just needed to sort his life through first, especially with the new job.
"I do not know where the owner is getting all these unusual ideas for alternative medicine, but we have been making more and more sales each month." Stated the older man. "A herb that can quickly heal joints, a new skin cream that actually rejuvenates skin and make people look physically younger, and that new herbal tea that prevents accidental pregnancy have been selling out like hotcakes. Crazier is that our new boss will have even more stuff coming in just the next few months. Even crazier is that he somehow patented the new medicines in such a short period of time."
"How in the King's ass did he do that?" The younger man said in shock. Who shortly after word took a sip of his new can of beer. "I am more likely to win the lottery than get a patent if even half the rumors about the civilian government are true. Only the legendary Briefs have been known to navigate the bureaucracy so easily. Especially with all their lawyers and accountants."
"I have no clue, but those patents have been getting him royalties." The older man said finishing his second can of beer and told the bartender to fetch him a third one. "We have been growing fast and from the looks of things, we will have to go corporate in the next few months. For guys like us who just joined the system, we will have long careers ahead of us if our superiors can maintain this profitability. This will lead to a lot more work on my end though."
"Sounds like just the type of work I want to do to get a stable career instead of all this underpaid part-time crap that fluctuates depending on tourist season." The younger man took a quick sip of his beer. "A man can't make a decent living in the city unless they have a good job."
Then the younger man had a sudden realization.
"Say coz, can you possibly give me a good word so I can get in the same department as yours?"
"You do realize that if you got full in with the business, you are going to have to work extremely long hours each day and your social life outside of the organization will suffer." The older man warned. "I need the money for the family, but you could at least try to find a modest wife before then. The initial phase of a corporation is going to be very long and difficult and you won't have time to find another girl."
The younger man snorted. "I don't care about finding a new girl as she might be another moocher. I rather actually have some money in my pocket and someplace better than my crappy apartment. And if the business really is going to grow as much as you think, I want in. I could easily end up being a wealthy executive in over a decade if I am one of the foundation members. If I can get over the initial storm, that would give me one
hell of an impressive resume." The younger men than took a large gulp from his beer can.
The older man sighed, but at least could see that his younger cousin had his priorities straight for now and an actual motive after that heartbreak episode. "Very well, but work is going to be very hard from now on." The older man said as he took a large taste of his third beer can. "I hope you are looking forward to dealing with some of the most cutthroat businessmen in the world, because they are not going to be pulling any punches when you are climbing the ladder."
"To our careers coz," the younger man raised his can of beer. "To our careers," the older man raised his can.
The two clinked their cans, paid the tab, and walked home heavily drunken. Mentally preparing themselves for a new year that was going to be busier than any other time in their lives. A new year that should be full of new opportunities. A year that would lead to a new direction in life for the two of them.

Age 739 (Early Year)
Planet: Earth
Location: Omori's Island
The old man named Omori normally lived in complete seclusion on his island. However, the last couple of days were the most shocking times of his life.
First, an actual
alien arrived from outer space. He was possibly the first Earthling to ever contact a lifeform beyond the starts. The alien named Jaco was a little strange and strong, but otherwise a good person in heart.
Second, the government police of East City came by after that expensive purchase from the young lady Tights. And Jaco made the Police's finest look like minimum wage mall cops by casually taking them down with barely any effort. That atrociously inaccurate wanted poster that seemed like the eyewitnesses were drunk did not help either. Law Enforcement must have been going downhill for a while.
Third, he discovered that he would have to stop his time travel research due to galactic law. A shame, but he had enough money to retire and the project was more of a hobby at this point. And no one could disprove his scientific theories on time travel, much to certain opposition that would have loved to take credit for the idea.
Lastly, the time experiment worked long enough for Jaco to save the woman who he later discovered was the eldest daughter of the legendary Dr. Briefs. One of the greatest geniuses in the scientific community of his generation. His famous invention of capsule technology was dismissed by many to be impossible, but he proves them all wrong and now had the wealthiest corporation on the planet.
Just being in his presence and talking to Dr. Briefs about science was so rare that many of Omori's former colleagues would have even sacrifice a science degree for just
one lecture by him. He was not an easy person to meet because of some of his eccentricities, but many scientists who were great in their fields often had reputations of being hard to work with.
His interest in the time machine led to some fascinating discussions when he was not being distracted by Jaco's ship. The fact that Earth was practically given a working spaceship that was a far cry from the disastrous rocket launch could revolutionize space travel, not to mention conventional transportation. Improved fuel efficiency, better material science, improvements in computers, minimalized and more efficient parts, and even
hover cars could become a reality in only a few short years. Everything seemed to be going excellent and made the old man's island very active.
But during the talks, the sound of three government helicopters, along with four ships that stayed a small distance, were approaching his personal island. A very intimidating number that put everyone except the alien on edge. Only the three helicopters landed on barren patches of land. Which each had the logo of a certain department of justice that even the old hermit knew from sight.
"That symbol looks just like the one from King Furry's secret police," stated Mrs. Briefs of all people. Omori couldn't recall her given name.
"Who are these secret police officers and who is King Furry?" Asked the Galactic Patrolman curious. "Are they dangerous?"
"King Furry is the main ruler of Earth Jaco," answered Tights. "The secret police work directly under the King himself. They only show up when something very serious occurs. Likely involves you Jaco."
"So they are the main authorities on this planet?" Said Jaco intrigued. "As a Galactic Patrolman, I am expected to establish working relations with local authorities. It is one of our highest priorities as defenders of justice of the galactic community. They must be here to talk."
"I really don't think that is the case Jaco," said old man Owari in fear. "I heard stories that they are involved in a lot of secret and dark stuff that concern world security. They might be here to dissect you if that area base rumor is true."
"Dissect me?!" The galactic Patrolman exclaimed in shock. "I am just a regular patrolman, not some alien creature with supernatural abilities. I do not generate energy from my body that can be used for destruction."
"Yes…a regular cop." Said the old man sarcastically. "Try not to seriously hurt them if they are here for a fight, I do not want to live the rest of my remaining life running away from the law. I have a nice retirement plan and I don't want to change it."
Jaco nodded when the door of the first helicopter that landed opened its door after the other two fully landed. A few people that looked like body guards came out of the first copter. One looked to be one of the racoon breeds on Earth who seemed to oversee security. Surprising since the racoon were not the most intimidating Earthlings compared to government dramas. He was also the first one of the secret police to speak.
"Under the authority of the head of the secret police, this entire location and all individuals in the surrounding area are obligated to stay where they are for questioning. There is no need to be alarmed, we only wish to communicate with the alien that goes by the name of Taco." Said the raccoon guard stoically.
"It is Jaco!" Yelled the alien himself. "Why does everyone have so much trouble remembering that on this planet?"
"You are the alien Mr…Jaco was it?" Asked the raccoon, looking clearly surprised at the alien's appearance, but instantly restored his professional image. "Ketchem would personally like to speak with you regarding your activities on our planet and possibly begin negotiations between our two civilizations."
"Who is this ketchup he is talking about?" Asked Jaco seriously as he looked around the group of humans that were on this island before the secret police arrived.
"It is Ketchem and he is the head of the secret police." Answered Dr. Briefs with utmost seriousness. The jovial manner from earlier was completely replaced with a serious expression. "He is practically the right-hand man of the King himself. He only shows up when something serious has occurred. I don't understand why he wants to speak with you Jaco. He is an investigator, not a diplomat."
Jaco sighed at his own verbal mistake. Wondering if there was some problem with the translator or if there was going to need to be a serious update to the software.
"Sounds like you personally meet this person father," said the eldest daughter of the Briefs family.
The only man in the Briefs family sighed. "I occasionally have to deal with his people because of fears of monopolies in the business world." He then glanced at the spaceship that was now his. "And something tells me that his and my lawyers will now have to sort through the details of the spaceship. For similar reasons as I stated earlier. So frustrating, this is going to delay progress by several weeks, maybe months until an agreement can be made that won't get me in legal trouble. Not that I really mind competition, my competitors can't even do half what I can do in capsule technology and my constant innovations make sure of that."
Then a human man in his forties came out of the first helicopter surrounded by an armed escort. The man with slightly greying hair took a quick glance around the island before slowly approaching the Patrolman. Each step he took was that of great confidence despite the mangled look of an old trench coat that looked a few decades out of date. Looking more like something out of one of the black and white detective movies that Dr. Briefs recalled watching back in the day. The head was infamous for his choice of clothing and only got away with it given his connections to the King. As those clothes were occasionally associated with certain crime families decades ago. It just made him look more intimidating.
The only thing unusual about the head was his face was unusually pale. Like he was ill, but not enough to interfere with his duties. Only Dr. Brief seemed to notice given their prior associations. Decades of learning facial reactions and body reactions from his…less respectful days also helped him.
After reaching a comfortable distance from the alien, it was only then that Ketchem would speak to the alien. "Forgive all the security traveler," said the chief in an unusual accent Jaco never heard before. It sounded a little harsh, but he couldn't make any heads or tails on it. "You decided to arrive at a very bad time and I am currently dealing with two problems at once. I apologize for what Katayude and the East City police force did earlier and hope it did not give you a bad first impression on our planet. I also want to commend you for saving Tights Briefs from that disgrace involving the rocket launch."
Jaco recalled the name of Katayude from that one person that was pursuing him. Not that he was an actual threat to his mission.
"My daughter was on what!?" Yelled Dr. Briefs in complete shock. "Tights! Why were you on that rocket disaster?" As he continued to hound his eldest daughter for the details.
Ketchem decided to ignore the arguing between the two and continue talking with Jaco. "What happened on the rocket was a disaster waiting to happen and we of the secret police are fully investigating the extent of the damages so something like that will never happen again. Sadly, that is a secondary problem to what we are currently involved in, but I can't tell you anymore since it involves the Secret Police itself."
From what Jaco could tell, this Earthling was very understandable. Law Enforcement was supposed to protect innocent life first and foremost. Horrible construction methods were clear violations of many safety laws in the galaxy at large. It earned the alien his respect.
"Given the…state of the world, we would like to keep your visit a secret for now." Said the investigator directly to Galactic Patrolman. "We do not believe that Earth is ready for the galactic stage right now. It could lead to worldwide panic for various reasons, along with social and economic difficulties. Since you have easy access to space travel, that means your race has a level of technological sophistication far beyond anything that Earth has at the moment."
The Galactic Patrolman could also understand the logic behind that. Introducing too much of the wonders of the galaxy at once could overwhelm the native population into doing something drastic. An initial problem from the early days of the Galactic Patrolmen which lead to a non-interference procedure until any primitive society could be considered a space-faring civilization. Since Earth seemed to be focusing on space technology, they were likely to become involved in the galactic community some day in the future, but not for a while.
"The technology like my former spaceship was actually a joint effort among several races long ago. I am Jaco of Galactic Patrol. Our organization is actually a collection of several alien races with the main duty of bringing peace and stability across the universe." Dr. Brief noted that the chief just raised an eyebrow, but seemed less tense, if only slightly.
"So you are also law enforcer," the pale detective inquired with slight surprise, before continuing with his neutral. "Good to know that there are still enforcers of law among the galaxy." He then decided to be more direct with his questioning. "As fellow lawmen, would it not be problematic to get any information on what is going on in the galaxy, both of its wonders and dangers as most of our space knowledge is only theoretical at the moment. And possibly some way to actually read the language since you likely speak a language much different from our own." The investigator ended with a curious tone.
Jaco did not seem to find a reason to argue against his request. One of the duties of the Galactic Patrolmen were to educate the masses about what was going on in the galaxy. Especially with the dangers of numerous alien lifeforms and the Planet Trade Federation. The latter was a fate this planet did not deserve in the slightest.
"As standard protocol, translators are widely available to assure easier communication. Your other request for information is acceptable, I will have to contact the Galactic King again to get you what you request." The right-hand of King Furry merely smirked at the offer.
"So out of curiosity, why did you come to this planet?" Inquired the righthand of King Furry. "This doesn't seem to be an expected first contact scenario." Some of his guard looked a little nervous for some reason that the alien couldn't understand.
"I was looking for a young Saiyan," Jaco replied. "A dangerous, warlike race that I thought would attack this planet. However, it seems that the Saiyan never showed up."
The detective looked a little surprised at the reply.
"Can you give us more details on these Saiyans you ar-" then the man's stomach was grumbling very loudly, clear pain was on his face.
"Where is the restroom?" Asked the old man loudly without talking to anyone in specific.
"Inside and two door to the right," answered the island's only resident. When the government agent ran right into the house in all haste.
"What is his problem?" Questioned Tights, also to no one in specific.
"Food poisoning from yesterday," answered the Racoon officer. "Not that he doesn't seem to mind it much after what happened earlier. The rest is classified."
Once the Right-Hand of the King returned, negotiations would continue for several more hours. Learning of great wonders that could revolutionize Earth. And great evils that could just as easily crush them with little effort.

Age 739 (Early Year)
Planet: Earth
Location: A small town far south of East City
An elderly man was making one of his rare visits to a small town that was the closest to his home of many decades. A simple town that even after several decades, has seen little changes compared to the rest of the world. A simple farming and fishing town where many trades were made. An old town that was slowly dying as more and more of the young were leaving for different cities just to make ends meet. The only ones that stayed were either fellow elders like himself or people with nowhere else to go. But despite the lack of development, there were several lands that were untouched by many residential and industrial projects and the old man enjoyed the beauty of nature more than anything else in the world.
But the old man had a rather big surprise earlier in the year. When a baby boy with a monkey tail came from outer space. The first few weeks were rough; the alien boy was very strong for his age and had a penchant for violence. Then he one day started to calm down and acted like a nice and highly energetic young boy for his age. A rather nice change as the elderly man was slowly reaching the limits to how much stress he could handle. There was only so much a man in his nineties can handle.
Still, despite the hassles, the Old man was glad to have someone like a grandson. Living as a hermit does not lead to much social interaction. Especially with so many friends who have died over the decades from his long life. The sad curse of old age. There was only one person from the days long gone that was still alive through supernatural methods, along with another who was living in that castle he fought so hard for, but the old man had little interest in seeing either of them. There was so much that needed to be done with the boy.
Like his appetite, sure there were stories about growing boys and how much they eat, but that was completely ridiculous. Even hungry babies didn't eat more than twice their body size. If he did not know of his new grandson's nature, he might have thought something was wrong with the child. The only thing the old man could do was try to feed the child as much as possible until he looked feed.
Thankfully, there was plenty of food around his home. The old man was a master of both hunting and fishing and due to the remote location, neither of those sources were scarce. This did lead to some difficulties getting essential supplies from the cities, especially goods needed for a growing (and very hungry) toddler like medicine and other utilities. The problems of living in the countryside.
But even despite the complications, it just meant that the old man needed to do more hunting and skinning to make ends meet. He made his living through trading the bones and skins of what he killed. There were certain natural remedies that required the grounding of bones of certain animals, along with wealthier traders who wanted animal pelts for some new fashion designs. With most of the previous hunters leaving the industrial jobs, he was really the only person within hundreds of kilometers who knew how to properly hunt and knowing where to find the best deals. An absolute necessity back in the day since his old training with his master meant that the two had to improvise for a living. Until the old man made enough money from long-term stock investments and could live on what was known as spiritual ground from the previous resident so long ago.
In the old days when the old man visited the town, he would haggle for his rare goods and trade any money made for important commodities. Otherwise, he had little reason to stay in the town, as several old friends and occasional drinking buddies of the elderly man were dying off over the years. The slightly younger elders that replaced the previous ones were part of the next generation gap. Which meant that the travelling old man could not relate to them very well, and with the new resident in his household, he just wanted to get what he needed and leave like always.
Unfortunately, his routine had a serious delay. There was a new regulation in the town where the elderly at a certain age needed to get a medical evaluation. Something regarding an illness that was rumored to be a future epidemic among the elderly. Not that the old man ever expected to get infected since he lived in a very remote location from most humans. Still, he couldn't make any trade unless he got a clean bill of health due to fears of infection. So he was forced to visit the local clinic, much to his annoyance. At least the very few of his old friends who were becoming more bedridden would be in better care.
He was stuck in the waiting room, enjoying the complementary tea and patiently waiting for his turn. His only company he could see was a janitor mopping the floor, a bored secretary at the desk working on some document, and two senior men playing a game on a giant wooden board with black and white circles that they brought with them. Only the two older men were important as they were distantly related to someone he knew from the old days. He never really interacted with them and just slightly paid attention to their conversations since there was nothing else of interest in the waiting room.
"I hope that quack actually does his job for a change," the taller of the two men was rubbing his shoulders. "I still can't believe we have to go through this evaluation, none of the guys around have caught anything out of the ordinary."
"You haven't heard the news?" Said the shorter man in shock. "That guy left months ago and there is a new doctor. Even more interesting is that it's an elderly woman."
"Women becoming doctors?" The taller man responded, while doing his turn on the game board. "The world is changing more and more each day. More women are entering the workforce compared to our generation. I don't care as long as I get good treatment. Must have been a Nurse from somewhere who probably wanted to leave for more easier grounds."
"Bere from the bar said that the woman is also an impressive herbalist. Which is rather unusual for a medical doctor, but I am getting off track." Said the shorter man as he put down his piece. "Joe from the textile shop also said that the new doctor is as he quotes "aged
very well", although that is probably one of his jokes."
"Well I better not tell my wife about the visit," the taller man said mockingly before making his turn and removing a few pieces. "As if. I am happily married as you know."
"Like you remind me every time we play," the shorter man grumbled as he did his turn. "It is unusual that a women of her age is a doctor given those times. Most women our age is either married, widows, or retired. The doctor is none of the above surprisingly enough."
"Given how much work is needed to become a doctor, having a family was probably not an option. Given the long hours and lousy pay if rumors are true." The taller man did his turn, looking more concerned about the game. "Have you been practicing behind my back?"
"Maybe your mind is finally going out old friend," said the shorter man as he made his move and had a big grin on his face. "I win. You are paying for the next pack of beer." The taller man just grumbled.
"Son Gohan," the bored secretary broke his concentration. "Dr. Cecil will see you now."
The hermit got out of his chair and followed the secretary to the room. At least that previous doctor was gone (and good riddance in his mind) so hopefully the new one will be much better. At least since it was a fellow senior, she would probably be more lenient than her predecessor. Just a simple checkup and he could quickly leave this annoying place.

The old man walked into the office of the new doctor. He never like the pale walls and floors of the office because the previous doctor made it look very intimidating. He was surprised when he found the walls covered with several potted plants containing various herbs. But what really surprised him was that a number of the plants were very rare and had supernatural properties. Something that modern medicine never dealt with.
Which just made him feel even more intense. There were very few true herbalists that studied old medicine anymore. Only a handful like his master's sister could even practice supernatural medicine anymore. This meant that the female doctor trimming one herb plant and currently ignoring him was a master in her own right. Which was very unusual as herbalist were never accepted by the new medical community when some belief came about that only drugs can cure anything. Any doctor who practiced alternative medicine was rumored to be scorned by the medical community. It was likely a fabrication since the old man used many plants over the years to recover from certain injuries and illnesses.
"I am glad to finally meet you Son Gohan," said the elderly woman soothingly. "I have been wanting to meet you for some time now."
She then turned around and the only man in the room took note of all her features. She was easily a senior citizen just by looks, but Gohan's inquisitive eyes noticed several unusual details that stood out. She had some wrinkles and grey hair as expected, but fewer than most women. Even stranger was how her body could move with the physical grace of a younger woman. Along with an all too familiar power about her that the old man knew better than anyone else. And there was something about her that just felt…different and inhuman.
This woman was not at all normal. Even physically fit women should not be able to simply move her body so easily. Knowing how the body moves and how to predict it was one of the most important aspects of any martial artist as it often decided who would win in a fight. And her movement was very…unusual in certain ways like she occasionally struggled at moving something that should be completely natural. Only those with a very,
very good eye would notice like himself.
"Who are you really?" Demanded the old man bluntly. "You may have deceived others, but I know that you are not an ordinary human at all. Doctors also would not casually accept herbs even if you were a Nurse."
"That is a horrible thing to say to a lady you just met," said the false human with faux sadness. "I am just a simple elderly woman who wants to heal others like yourself. Now let me get the pot of my special herbal ice tea that will help your joints."
She then went to a pot for tea and poured the content into an oriental tea cup. While handing the tea to the old man. Not that he would even drink the content. Only a fool would drink a cup from a stranger who was a part of the supernatural.
"I do not have time for your tricks, I am an old man." Answered the old man, who was more interested in the unknown woman than the tea. "Are you from the Realm of Demons planning something nefarious? Are you a spirit that lost their original home and decided to move here? Are you some shapeshifter trying to impersonate someone else? I may not be in my prime anymore, but if you are a demon, you are not the first who thought they could end my life so easily."
"I will admit I am not a human, but I am offended that you think I am a demon." Said the suspicious woman. "Didn't Master Roshi teach you that there were divine beings that wished to bring prosperity to mortals like your Kami of Earth?"
Then Son Gohan felt a sudden chill in the room. There was almost no one alive who knew he was a student of the Turtle Hermit anymore. This was for safety reasons as Roshi had a fair list of enemies that could live for a long time and had equally long grudges. Anyone who knew that tidbit of information was much more informed, and dangerous, than average. More so for someone who seemed to be an unknown factor. The only Kami he ever heard about was the one from that tower he forgot the name of. He never seen any others that could be Kami related and his Master never mentioned any. The only benevolent alternative could be spirits, and they only stayed in their locations.
Only demons often travelled far distances to complete their nefarious goals. They never expect mortals to just come to them for favor. They would never get anything done otherwise. Since Son Gohan couldn't recall any agricultural or medicals spirits for almost a thousand kilometers, the only realistic option was demons. Most demons were masculine, but female demons still appeared even though they were very rare. Even Roshi would not try any of his perverted moves on them, for in his words "There are some things you
never try to tap, believe it!".
"Are you here to get rid of me because of some ancient grudge by whoever you follow?" The old master asked in suspicion. "I know that demons are petty, but I have been out of the game for decades. Even your kind see no honor, nor glory, in killing a senior citizen."
"For the last time, I am not a demon!" The woman yelled in frustration. "And if I really wanted to poison you, I would have spiked your tea cup in the waiting room. You were not really paying it much attention to it at all."
Then Son Gohan scorned himself. Why didn't he think to check the content of the tea before drinking it? He was slacking off.
"Now listen to your doctor and drink the tea," said the suspicious woman sternly. "You are not allowed to leave until you drink it and we can continue the medical examination. Or I will personally tie you down and shove it down your throat. Your choice."
Master Gohan sighed and looked at the tea. Some of the leaves looked a little familiar, but if he was going to die, he at least wanted to know what the drink.
"Can you at least tell me what this tea is?" Asked Gohan concerned. Wanting to at least know how he would die. "I recognize some herbs, but I don't see anything that looks poisonous."
"The tea is actually a new herbal tea I have been working on for the elderly. It will ease the stiffness of your joints and make you feel like you are a few decades younger. I am planning on patenting the recipe for my company once I work out some of the kinks. Now drink it and then we can talk about your new grandson and his little…beastly problem from the last full moon."
Any poker face that the old master had was completely shattered by that last sentence. The old man never told anyone he was raising a child and wanted to keep it that way. For someone who came from the stars beyond was not normal at all. Especially after that one night when the baby turned into a giant beast. Thankfully, it was more interested in sleeping rather than rampaging around, the old man didn't even want to think about what could have happened if he died from that.
With a sigh, he took the cup to his lips and drank the content. When he realized that the 'doctor' in front of him was unlikely to be a demon given the evidence. Unless he seriously missed a sign of something nefarious. Which just made him nervous.
Only to sudden realize he wasn't in excruciating pain. Rather, he felt
better than he had in decades. His body just felt lighter and more energized. The opposite of dying, much to his surprise.
"Now that you know I am not going to kill you, can we talk like civilized beings now?" Said the suspicious elder. "Or are you going to continue acting unreasonable stubborn. I thought masters of your age had more manners."
Gohan's honor as a martial artist would not take anything that implied he was a savage barbarian. The simple implication of that would have meant he was completely undisciplined and arrogant. The two worst traits of any martial artists. And since she hasn't shown any hostile conduct, it would make
him look like a complete fool. So he has to treat her with proper respect, for now anyway.
"I apologize for my earlier behavior," stated Gohan humbly. A bit embarrassed at his earlier behavior. "But I have several questions I need to know. How did you know I learned under Master Roshi? How did you know about my grandson? And most importantly, who are
you and what do you want with me?"
"I can answer most of those questions easily, except the last one which will require more details." Said the unusual lady with honest intentions. "I am from outer space and I have a talent for divination. I came to your planet because your grandson has a great destiny thrusted on his shoulders. He will become a great hero that will face evil forces of power far beyond your comprehension. But until then, he is a baby that needs to be raised. You are doing an admirable job given the circumstances, and I want to help you."
Gohan knew that the false Earthling was not a human, but that she was also from outer space was surprising.
"Your grandson and those who will become his friends will live in very interesting times. More and more powerful threats will come to destroy Earth and the universe at large and your planet will play a crucial role in its survival. The potential for your kind is fascinating, I wish to not just make Goku and his allies survive, but usher in a golden age of prosperity."
"I find it hard to believe a mere baby could do something like that," said the apprentice of the Turtle Master in disbelief. Finding the idea of supernaturally powerful enemies which increasingly become more threatening ridiculous. In his years of training, there was always a limit to how powerful an opponent can become. "How dangerous could these threats possibly be?"
"Allow me to demonstrate," said the one known as 'Dr. Cecil' before performing a brief Ki surge that realeased an immense power that Gohan never felt occur. Simple Ki of such
power that it completely overwhelmed the old man. It was only for a few seconds, but it led to the old man to discover a shocking truth. He would be
slaughtered like a bug if he ever tried to fight against this woman. Which just made his heart race in
terror.
"There are those with far greater power than what I have and could easily destroy Earth with as much ease as a flick of a finger." Said the alien from outer space. "Goku and those he will connect with will need to learn much to face the treats of the next coming decades of chaos. And given the monkey boy's involvement in many events, he will need both of our tutoring and support. He will need to learn not just how to fight, but other crucial skills."
"I cannot deny that your power is impressive and useful," Said Grampa Gohan after recovering his breath from his initial shock. "But I do not quite understand the second part."
The woman sighed. "I know you will raise him to be an impressive fighter by Earths standards and it would serve as the foundations of the future. But Goku cannot just rely on his skills as a fighter to survive in modern times. He will need to gain an education, social skills, and wisdom to the ways of both the world and universe. You are a simple hermit with little to provide him and your time among the mortal plane will soon end."
Son Gohan could not deny that he was very old, even by normal standards. While he would still be around for years, the doors towards death were slowly opening. Time was the one opponent that he could never beat. Other than his master.
"I can provide all the necessary resources you can not to raise him to his full potential." Said the foreign Doctor. "However, this could be very unusual unless we do something that wouldn't be suspicious at all."
"What could that be?" asked the old Turtle Master. Having absolutely no clue where she was going.
"Why become husband and wife of course," stated the foreign doctor like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
To say that the old man was surprised was an understatement. He long since thought the likelihood of getting married at his age was none-existent.
When training under his master, he gained a reputation for being a massive pervert (which was actually false, he was completely civil) which scared away many young women. When he finished his training, he lived as a hermit, which was considered a massive turnoff. The age of martial arts was already declining for decades and there were few women who would marry martial artists anymore except instructors of successful dojos. Son Gohan lived as a wandering hermit, which was often considered by many as a hobo in those times. Women didn't just want a husband with a stable income and a decent household for settling down anymore, they wanted a man that could give them all kinds of materialistic items that just seemed like a waste of money to the old man (like some jewelry he saw in the day that cost enough to feed him for a month or longer). Any potential relationships he tried to pursue instantly failed when they found out the truth and they wanted to find wealthier spouses.
Now there was someone who wanted to marry him and ignore the dating stage. Needless to say he was completely surprised at the sudden proposal. Especially since traditionally, it was supposed to be the other way around. And certainly not by an alien of all things.
"You want to marry…me!?" Said Gohan in complete shock. "First you tell me this crazy story about my grandson and now you are proposing to me? We just met each other!"
"Would you believe it if I said that I feel in love with you are first sight?" Said the elderly doctor.
Gohan gave her a deadpan look.
She then burst out laughing. "I was kidding about the love part." Her face then returned to her previous serious expression. "I was not joking about the part of marrying you. I want to give Goku an inheritance when my current form 'dies' shortly after you do and the only way I can do that is if we tie the knot. This is not just for his benefit, I will serve your needs as a dutiful wife and make your last years some of the best times of your life. You are a good person and you really drew the short stick from most of your life. Do you not seek happiness for your final years?"
"This whole scenario is completely ridiculous anyway." said Gohan, in disbelief over the intended marriage.
"Regardless, all you just need to do is sign a contract that will automatically get the two of us married." She then handed him a single piece of paper. "The contents of the contract will be supernaturally binding on both our sides and I cannot do anything to break either the lettering or spirit of the agreement. Feel free to look through the contract before signing on the dotted line. I can wait."
Gohan carefully examined every single word and sentence on the contract. The contract itself was very simple, it stated that the woman in front of him would help raise his grandson as his grandmother and she would take care of the household and provide contributions to further Goku's development. While also making Goku the heir of a company she owns along with several other assets when Gohan dies. While also along Grampa Gohan support for the rest of his remaining life and not do anything to harm him. There was nothing to indicate he would have to sell his soul or do a favor for dark forces. Only that he could not maliciously harm Goku, which he would never do to the alien boy anyway.
It was…an agreement that seemed to benefit him and his grandson more than her. It was very unusual for contract makers of something so binding to make since they wanted a bigger end of the stick. To fail to fulfill these terms on her end could lead to her death if serious enough. Which was kind of scary when he read the list of potential punishments.
"Somehow, I doubt I can stop anyway given how thoroughly you want to marry me," Said Gohan which shortly followed a sigh. "I will only accept this agreement under three conditions. You will not do anything to directly harm or corrupt my Grandson. I also want to see your true form and know your real name, since 'Cecil' is obviously fake."
The elderly women nodded. "I will not do anything to harm Goku or corrupt him into a force of evil. He will still remain a pure individual with a strong sense of justice and goodness. But he will have to fight his own battles unless I believe it to be impossible for him and his allies. For he will have to face great challenges as it is his destiny. As for my real form…"
The elderly woman in front of Gohan changed completely before his eyes. Gone was the hunched form and wrinkles of age. An exquisite form that looked of a near human that looked of artistic perfection appeared in front of him. An alien woman who would have completely passed for a human if not for the unusual skin color and unusual hair color that did not look like anything a local could possess. At least without a hair dye, and even then, finding a color like that must have been difficult, if not impossible. If Gohan were several decades younger, he probably would have had difficulty forming complete words in front of her face. But he was an old man whose hormones mostly died out from old age. She was…he didn't even know if the word 'beautiful' was an understatement.
"As for your third condition," said the young alien herself, wishing to hear his decision. "My real name is Luci. Just Luci. Now will you sign the contract?"
Gohan knew that being involved with this woman was going to make his life much crazier. But nothing she done seemed to actually be bad and he didn't really have anything to lose and so much to gain. He just wondered why she was so interested in Goku and
how he wanted to raise her.
He signed his name on the contract. A supernatural feeling came over him that almost seemed like he was tied together with the woman in front of him. And noticed an absolutely beautiful smile that seemed so sincere that scared him a little. He couldn't tell if it was legitimate or fake.
"The contract has now been signed dear." Said Luci as she changed back into her elderly from as 'Dr. Cecil' and went to get that metal circle that was worn by the ears. A…stethoscope, was it? He never paid much attention to medical tools.
"We will work on the marriage details later," Said his 'wife' now in professional conduct. "For now, I need to give you your health examination. I am a doctor and I do have to take care of the health of my patients. Now take your shirt off, we have delayed long enough with the examination."
"I swear you will be the death of me," said the elderly man with a sigh.
"Don't be silly dear. Everyone know that married men live longer," said his new wife cheerfully.
"Probably because it only
feels longer," complained Son Gohan.
"Now we are talking like we have been married for a
very long time. You are a natural at this." Said the supernatural doctor as a compliment
"What have I gotten myself into?" Asked the old man frustrated to no one in specific.
As much at the meeting annoyed the Turtle Master, the medical checkup itself was very pleasant in itself. Other than being forced to take certain herbs (which included that one tea he drank earlier), everything went fine. He got a clean bill of health and could actually do his trading (and did surprisingly well despite the delay). When the sun was declining, he made record time returning because his 'fiancée' decided to
fly him back home. That was an…unforgettable experience.
A week later, the small chapel announced a new marriage through the ringing of its wedding bell. Something that has not been used for over a decade.
