Prologue: Part 1

The Uninspired

Sir Terrier
Location
Australia, Queensland.
Its three fifty am, I should've been in bed four hours ago, I have to be up in three hours.

Let's start a quest, why not?
//////

You shift in discontent as something brushes your nose, almost as though someone was tickling your nose with a feather. Light, soft but something just felt off about it. Actually come to think about it, your rucksack, the bundle of all your material possessions, or rather your makeshift pillow felt a whole lot more spike than you'd ever felt it before.

Fighting back a groan because you know, you just know that something terrible is either happening or has happened.

You pop one of your eyes open to view the landscape from the hilltop you were resting on and found your vision instead taken up by a vista that was nowhere near where you had fallen asleep.

Your other eye jerks open and you somehow manage to, in a feat of acrobatics that would leave many flabbergasted, spring away from the tree, onto your feet and then tip over onto your ass in one fluid motion. You end up sitting down leaning back supported by your arms as you stare at the wonder before you.

Verdant grass slips between your fingers, caressing them gently with a lovers touch as you feel the caress over your bare legs. Splashes of stunningly vivid colour breaks the grass hither and thither. You slowly look around captivated by the beauty of this place, as things you had missed before constantly sprung to your attention as your eyes swept over the terrain. Branches tipped with leaves that started green but bled into a rainbow towards the edge caught your attention as your eyes laid themselves upon a single tree that absolutely dominated the scenery around it.

It alone stood taller, with more presence and majesty than anything around it, the other flora in its vicinity almost seemed to pay homage to it, moss growing at its base, flowers packed in tight, to be honest staring at it made you feel blessed, just to have seen it. You struggled to put to words how captivating the sight was, with the light glinting from droplets of water and dew gathering on the tips of grass and flowers. The way the scenery ruffled in small movements and waves, the way he wind blew through your hair and tugged playfully at your garments, the fragrance of the area.

Words simply failed to capture it.

You slowly let your arms slip as you lowered yourself to the ground staring at the sky in a daze, rays of light gently drifting through the holes in the canopy that covered you.

You stared at the gently rustling leaves and reached up to grasp at them.

~Vote~
What catches your eye?
[X] Sitting snugly on your ring finger is a simple band of unadorned silver.
[ ] Wrapping around your wrist an innumerable number of times was a single silken wrap embellished with threads of gold.
[ ] A multitude of time worn scars. Some from battle, some from your attempted forays into the forge and others from wandering the woods.
~Vote~
Character development will run over the first couple votes, instead of letting you guys create your own character whole handed, I'll give you options to develop the character as I continue the quest.
The choices presented here are for one of three backstories I've planned out. I'll answer any questions when I get on in the morning.

Path Chosen:
The simple silver band is a wedding band. You were poor, so you couldn't afford a golden ring clad in gild, but you were happy. You had saved for many months, avoid leisure and wasted expenditure wherever possible to be able to buy it. Things may have been tough but the smile when you presented it? Worth it.

Path's Unchosen:
The Silken Wrap is a gift from someone you admire and have looked up to ever since you'd gotten it. You'd been foolish, running around on the busy street between the wooden carts with the other children, you'd tried to make a pass under a wooden cart! You'd had your wrist caught inside the wheel and almost broken! The lady inside, a woman dressed in purple had apologized profusely, ruffled your hair and hugged you, even though you had been dressed in what could generously be called filthy after all the play, and wrapped your wrist with the band. You'd never let it leave your person since.

The scars were a testament, you thought, to your persistence in the face of adversity. To the battles fought and battles won, to things tried and experience wrestled from the clamped hands of life.

Character Sheet
Your name is: (To Be Decided)
(Pic here)
Biography:

To be filled In.

Current Equipment:
Leather Tunic
Rugged Pants
Foot Wrappings
Wooden Sandals

Current Accessories:

Current Weapons:
Wooden Bo Staff - A weapon that you had fashioned yourself, during your stint with the armed forces. You've managed to work a few surprises into it, just as a precaution. The roads weren't as safe as they used to be.

Current Possessions:
Knapsack - Contains all the things you own other than what you are wearing right now. Currently tied to your Bo.

Fire-Stones - Contains the ember of something greater. Used by the military as explosives, the civilians managed to adapt them to be more constructive and useful. They are enough to easily light a fire, and can sometimes if your lucky be salvaged and used again. It's possible to recharge them in a magic rich fire, but there's always a chance they will crack.

Traits
Married:
You are married, happily so. Anything that would tempt your devotion, through any means will meet heavy resistance. You have one single love of your life and you will stick by their side, from the moment you had put the ring on, nothing would pry you from the person you've married. You will whittle away your youth standing together, and you're determined to spend your twilight years with them too. There exists no words to describe your devotion to the one you married. [Resistance against manipulation]

You Are Not Alone:
You are not alone, and you know this. Where you should fall, you instead stand back up because you don't fight for yourself, you fight for them too. You fight like a man possessed, Never slowing and never tiring. Because you do not fight alone. [When with Partner, receive Massive boost to Combat. When with Allies, receive a Slight boost to Combat.]
Experienced Vagabond:
You're not new to a scuffle, you've had your fair share. You've seen a fair bit, not enough to stack up against the veterans but well, you're well on your way there. You've traveled here and far during your stint as an Exemplar. Continued to even after your Discharge. You'd picked up many tricks for dealing with terrain that seemingly had it out for you and in some cases, actually did have it out for you. [Receive a good bonus to survival in all terrain types. Able to Forage with low chance of poisoning yourself. Able to grasp the lay of the land easier.]

Flaws
Marital Yearning.
Your moods are more likely to turn towards depression and sadness when you're given time to think.
You haven't seen your other half in the longest time, you're forlorn at the thought that you might not see them again ever. You ache, you long and you wish to see your other half, for all your worth you wish to see them again. [Small chance to be removed during Meditation]

Mechanics, Rules and Miscellaneous Information

Rules:
Use Common Sense
Apart from that, no rules. I hope I won't have to start needing them.

Mechanics:
Chance and You
I will roll for encounters. Encounter rules will be similar to Terraria's spawn rules, in that I will not just drop monsters on you, it'll be up to you to seek them out, barring Boss Fights.
When you meet the conditions for a boss to spawn, I will notify you and start rolling. Depending on the boss that will spawn, the chance will adjust accordingly.

When some actions are undertaken, I will call for a roll. A bad roll will never prevent something from happening, just reduce the quality of the work done. A good roll would net you much more than what you bargained for. To the point where it could almost be a bad thing. Moderation is key. :p
Example: Digging for ore, on a bad roll, you'll still find some, just not as much as normal. Hitting a critical would mean you find more than you could conceivably carry back.

Hitting the 'Natural One' as far as I'm concerned, is almost as lucky as hitting the 'Natural Hundred!'... Just not for you. Hitting a 'Nat 1' will cause a non hostile encounter to happen.

Upon killing enemies, sometimes I'll roll dice to determine your loot. This is for more exotic things though. Mob specific drops or what have you. Although, that having been said I think I'll also include a counter, so that if you whiff the dice rolls enough times you'll get it through sheer persistence.

I'm open to discussion on this subject. There can be as much or as little chance in this quest you, the players desire. I myself harbor a more than mild dislike of chance.

Combat and You
Combat will be entirely narrative driven. Absolutely no combat rolls will happen during combat. I will set your opponent a goal during the fight and make him stick with that, what you do and how you react during your combat write ins or if you use the provided options will determine how a fight pans out. There are more ways to 'win' combat than simply beating them, I feel the need to say.

You can achieve victory against a stronger foe by running from it, you can achieve victory by showing those weaker than you kindness. Who knows, they may even reciprocate in time. Yes, Wyvern Bro is a possibility.

Borrowed from Esreadel on Deviantart (Linky Link).

Summoning and You
Summoning is a thing that happens, it can be as big or as small a part of this quest as you guys choose to allow it to be. Some people you encounter may be capable of summoning, although they will be few and far between.

More will be placed here and explained as you explore the mechanic in quest.

Miscellaneous
This quests is to serve as motivation to me, Hopefully to the point that I start writing Daily again.
My apologies in advance if things seem well... shitty Initially. I need to dust off my writing skills and actually get back into the swing of things. It doesn't really help that I'm actually in the middle of moving house at the moment...

If updates stray from daily, sorry.

At absolute worst, I will strive to keep them at a weekly updates.

The 'World' from which your character hails from will have little presence in the quest, apart from allowing me to build backstory and potentially an end goal of returning to your Partner.

The items that you carried with you upon entering Terraria will be the only items you have from the 'World' that I've built for backstory, once they're gone, they're gone.

Glossary and Bestiary
Glossary:
Exemplars:
A military order founded by the kingdoms of man to fight back against the encroaching territories of the bests that roam the outer lands. Exemplars were not the best of the best, more often than not those of the Exemplars were convicts, criminals and mercenaries.

Bestiary:
Creature of Motes:
A creature that grew before your eyes, a collection of possibly thousands of motes. The motes themselves came from the surroundings, a tree in a grove that defies belief and from the ground on the floating Isle that you currently reside on.

Achievements!

None, you haven't done anything yet.

Unless you want one for being alive?

...

Is that really an achievement?

Time to add a new link to your sig, good GM.

I've updated the character sheet some, filled in the rules and mechanics post, made an achievements tab because I figure why not?

I also filled in the character sheet with some basic info from the skeleton backstory that I said would come with the picks. ^.^

Special thanks ta' everyone who's voted so far. Next installment should be tomorrow provided everything doesn't go tits up.

Prologue: Part 2
[X] Sitting snugly on your ring finger is a simple band of unadorned silver.
/////

You stared at the gently rustling leaves and reached up to grasp at them.

Something glints and catches your eye. There, sitting snugly on your ring finger is a simple band of unadorned silver.

A simple silver band that represented so much happiness in your life that it really was absurd.

You ignored the canopy above you in favor of focusing on the wedding band and slowly rolling it in your fingers not really thinking of anything. You had been on your way home when you had woken in this corpse of trees that almost defied belief in their abundance and the sheer beauty of this place.

Levering yourself to your feet, you take a moment so sweep the area as you had done many times before, and as you did so you found your knapsack and Bo, along with a few other bits and bobs that you had been carrying, the most important one by far however was the small pack of fire-stones you had bought from the last town you visited, simple things really.

Small and smooth, warm to the touch when held, a soothing warmth that belied their immense power when actually activated.

You had little knowledge into their inner workings and what made them tick, but you knew enough to use them. Cupping them in your hands and holding them closed, tight enough that no light could peek in and the heat would cause them to react, in a usually violent way, save the civilians had figured out how to use them for non military purposes, these fire-stones burned longer, but at the price of intensity compared to their military counterpart. Perfect for starting a fire however.

Gain 11 Fire-stones. [6 + 1d6 = 11]

Scooping them up, they were soon snuggled away tightly in your constant companion, the Knapsack. They had their own little pouch, as stable as the civilians had managed to get them, they still had a tendency to explode whenever shaken around too much.

That set, you swiftly checked all the other components in the bag and found exactly what you were expecting. All your food was still there, enough to last perhaps a week if you rationed it out well, along with water and a small poultice of lesser healing. That particular poultice you'd made yourself. It was on par and even better than the store bought alternatives in the area you were. It wasn't saying your skills were great, no you only had a basic knowledge on the subject, but you suppose it just went to show how bad quality was on the fringes of society.

Still, you shake your head and get moving. As much as you would like to explore the stunningly beautiful tree and its surroundings, you feel a little uncomfortable simply checking it out when you have no idea where you are. Your goal having been set, you swing your Bo to rest on your should and trek off to check the surroundings.

As you pace around the grove that had caught your eye, you decide to check up on all the things that had piled onto your mental checklist while you were checking your supplies.

You checked your pockets and found nothing, you patted your head down and brushed off a few stray leaves that had fallen on you during your nap. With its task finished you placed your snaked your arm into your tunic and feeling grateful to yourself that you had sprung for the snazzier option, propped the front open a bit and rested your arm on the belt that wrapped around your torso half inside your tunic and half out.

You couldn't help but pluck at the wrappings underneath though, as much as you disliked the idea of it, you simply couldn't deny the usefulness of it. A Sarashi, pragmatically, you knew it was a good idea, and a great boon to you, didn't make wrapping it less annoying though. It made for decent bandages in a pinch too.

Gender:
[ ] You plucked lightly at the bindings wrapping around almost the entirety of your torso, focusing mainly on getting some slack around your breasts, just enough to loosen them a bit but not enough that it would begin slipping.
[ ] You plucked lightly at the bindings wrapped around almost the entirety of your torso. Shifting it around enough so that it was just a little bit looser the entire way around, not loose enough to slip, but loose enough to give you some more comfort.
Just as you had finished adjusting your Sarashi you found the outer edge of the trees protecting the grove you awoke in, as you stepped out you blinked mildly as you processed the sight before you.

A flat plain of grass that extended a little beyond the edge of the trees and suddenly dropped. There was nothing beyond that at all. Absolutely nothing. You walk over to the edge and peer over. Nothing stares back.

You take a couple of steps back and after marking where you started, you started sweeping the outer edge of this floating isle you've found yourself on. As you carry on, you spot little that breaks the plain monotony of the green grass and the tree's. Small branches every now and then sneaking their way outwards a little, stray leaves dotting the land as they wish. One thing you did notice that there almost seemed to be sections to this floating isle as you walked in one area the tree's seemed to tint purple and at others, they seemed to take on a reddish hue.

You trip around the outside and minor introspection is broken when you hit the mark that you had made when you began.

You scuff it over and head back in, your arm still held against your chest. You sweep the area you woke in once again and find a few things you definitely didn't have on you before. You find a set of tools made from differing metals. One is of Iron, one is of Copper and the other looks have been hewn from wood.

What tool was made from Iron? (Choose One)
[ ] The Pickaxe
[ ] The Axe

You gather the tools and pick them up. Each time you do, you vaguely feel like something clicks into place somewhere deep inside of you, you couldn't point to it or otherwise know where but it just felt as though you were regaining a part of yourself after never knowing it was missing.

As you finish gathering up the tools and placing them on yourself, a chime draws your attention towards the massive grove where you had initially woken up.

Motes of light seem to bleed from the tree and surrounding flora into a gathering that grows and grows. The motes of light don't stop congregating until the swarm is roughly half the size of you.

You see the motes shudder and writhe, twist and turn before they all coalesce and a indistinct figure is left standing before you. Pale and translucent, you can still quite easily see them.

What do yo do? (Choose One)
[ ] Announce yourself to the presence? It doesn't feel hostile and you're pretty sure after having scoped the area out that there's little more to be found here.
[ ] Cough politely and let the presence introduce itself first. If it does turn out to be hostile you'll probably be able to tell by its reaction to your cough.
[ ] Write In.

Phew.
Sorry for the late update, but I got a bit sidetracked. Moving furniture around and packing boxes for the move. I injured my wrist too, but that's not gonna stop me. As usual, I'll be available tomorrow to answer any questions you may have. ^.^

Updates have happened to the following posts. Character Sheet, Bestiary and Glossary, Rules and Mechanics. Go check em out if you're interested! :D

Have a good day everyone~!

[X] The Pickaxe

can't start Terraria with out a Pickaxe now
now we should mine up some iron to make an Reinforce fishing pole, then we go to the Jungle to get some bait ( Buggy, Grubby) then we go to the Ocean and fish up a Reaver Shark and a Sawtooth Shark

that Pickaxe and Axe problem solve very quickly (those 2 will last us until Hardmode)
don't really need to upgrade hammer, not like we're gonna need it, Shadow Orb and Crimson Heart can be break by Wooden hammer and the Wall of Flesh drop the Pwnhammer for us to break the Altar

[X] Announce yourself to the presence? It doesn't feel hostile and you're pretty sure after having scoped the area out that there's little more to be found here.

Yes, i have the game and i have dump alot of hour into it

@Z000, You're getting all of the tools regardless, its just one is made from Iron and the other is made from Copper, the Hammer is wooden regardless, because it's the weakest type you can make.

So with your vote, the Pickaxe is Iron, the Axe is Copper and the Hammer is Wood.

Each option is equally advantageous and disadvantageous.

Also, I totally understand, I've got a little over 800 hours into Terraria now I think, and it's a damn shame that there isn't anymore content on the site relating to it. D:<

@Z000 Nope, never touched mods. Then again it's kinda moot point here anyway since I'm taking artistic license with this quest anyway.

Mmmmmm. This is kinda... depressing?

I can't really call the vote with well, one incomplete vote guys.

I'll leave the vote open for another 24 hours, if I don't get some more participation, I guess I'll have to call this off due to lack of interest.

Since this seems to have flopped so dramatically, does anyone know where I could post to gauge the interest in a particular quest / Idea?

^.^, Take care guys.

Well I'm not sure if one more person will be enough to keep the quest going, but Island Survival barely has any players and it's awesome so...

[X] You plucked lightly at the bindings wrapping around almost the entirety of your torso, focusing mainly on getting some slack around your breasts, just enough to loosen them a bit but notenough that it would begin slipping.

[X] The Pickaxe

[X] Announce yourself to the presence? It doesn't feel hostile and you're pretty sure after having scoped the area out that there's little more to be found here.

And it's been awhile since I've checked out Terraria, but I don't remember it having this much of an oriental influence. Kind of off-putting, doesn't have the same vibe as the source material.
