A snippet thread. A thread for all my ideas that aren't fully stories on their own quite yet, but my muse refuses to let me leave them as just ideas in my head.

I'm finally getting back into writing, and the ideas are a flowing. Before I update any of my current fics though, here is a bit of a snippet I've been working on. Future snippets will be going in this thread as the muse hits. As with any snippet, it may get its own thread eventually, but for now, if it's a just a few thread marks, it'll be just here.

If any of these snippets inspires anyone else to write a story, go ahead and take the concept and run with it!
Onto the first Snippet:

Guardian Devil (Worm/Elfen Lied)

She stared listlessly through the window as the bus made its way to park. She was finally here. A whole summer away from Brockton Bay. And she was by herself. There was no Emma here, no dad… no mom. She sniffled slightly. She felt sad enough to cry, but no tears came. The pain was dull, but ever present. She was never going to see her mother ever again.

Minutes later, she was outside, gathering up her bags, ready to head off to her assigned cabin. She saw a flash of pink in the corner of her eyes, and glanced over. Around one of the other buses, a girl with pink hair wearing a blue beanie was grabbing her own bags. The hair was pretty cool, but it was a bit warm for a beanie wasn't it? Taylor blinked a few times. There were two lumps under the beanie, almost giving the impression the girl had horns…

The day passed rather eventfully for a first day at camp. Of course there was a boring bit of orientation and camp safety guidelines to remember, such as always use the buddy system when not with a counselor or chaperone and other common sense things like that. But after the boring stuff, they got to do a bunch of fun stuff! Archery, frisbee, capture the flag, softball, an obstacle course, and all just on the first day! Maybe this camp isn't so bad after all. It helped her not think about the pain.

She had just finished her shower and was ready to head to bed when she heard the voices out back behind her cabin.

"I said give it back!" A desperate and sad voice shouted with the touch of a Japanese accent.

"Oh, does the freak want to hide her ugly horns?" A voice Taylor recognized as Elsa asked. She was the jerk who pushed her out of the cafeteria line earlier!

Taylor blinked before running behind the cabin. She saw Elsa twirling a beanie hat on her right index finger with two other girls at her side, all of them mockingly staring at… "Are those cat ears?"

All four girls looked at her. The pink haired girl from this morning looked terrified and quickly but awkwardly covered her… cat ears? Horns? She covered them with her hands trying to hide them, while Elsa and her flunkies merely smirked.

"I guess they kind of look like cat ears, but they're made out of bone!" Elsa frowned. "At first we thought she was a cape or something, but she doesn't have powers at all. She's just a freak!"

"Stop being a jerk!' Taylor shouted, positioning herself between the bullies and their target.

Behind her the pink haired girl said "I have a genetic condition."

Taylor then blinked and looked over her shoulder. "Oh, like that one kid in India who has a tail!" Taylor scratched her head. "Or was it Brazil?" She remembered something about that on the Discovery Channel.

Elsa just looked at Taylor and rolled her eyes. "Whatever, a freak is a freak, and should be ridiculed as such. Are you a freak too?"

"I'd rather be a freak than a bitch!" Taylor immediately retorted. One of the flunkies behind Elsa, actually snorted a laugh for a moment, before Elsa turned on them with withering glare. "Besides," Taylor continued. "I think her cat ears… horn things… whatever they are, I think they're cool!"

Behind her, the girl muttered. "They're just horns…"

"Yeah, her horns are cool! Leave her alone!" Taylor then pointed at the beanie now hanging limp from Elsa's finger. "And give her back her hat!"

Elsa scoffed. "And why should I do that?"

Taylor's pointed finger recoiled back for a second. But only for a second. "Because what if she is a cape! Just because she didn't immediately use a power on you, doesn't mean she doesn't have any! Are you going to just keep bullying her until she blows you up? That doesn't seem smart!"

Elsa and her two lackeys paused, and paled when they actually thought about the situation for more than a few seconds. "Uh, right. Here's your stupid hat." She then threw the beanie at Taylor's general direction, and the three ran off.

Taylor quickly grabbed the hat before it could hit the ground, and turned around towards the horned girl with a smile. "Well, that sent them packing." She extended a hand with the beanie to the horned girl. "Sorry those girls were jerks. Most people at this camp have been pretty nice."

The horned girl just stared at Taylor with a distrustful gaze, then snatched the beanie from her hand. She quickly put it on, and started to walk away.

"Hey! Wait a minute! What's your name?"

The horned girl didn't even stop. "Why do you care?"

"Because I think we could become friends!"

The horned girl almost tripped for a moment. She then turned around and stared at Taylor with a piercing gaze. There was a sudden shift, almost as if Taylor was staring at a completely different person. She stood a bit taller, her eyes were colder, and her face was an emotionless mask. "Why?"

Taylor blinked at the odd question. She also felt an undercurrent of seriousness laid within that question, and that her answer had to be a good one… or else.

"You look sad." Taylor finally said. She looked down at her feet. "I was sad when I got here. My… My mom died recently. And after that, I didn't think I could ever be happy again. And if I didn't have my friend Emma to rely on… I'd probably still be crying. She couldn't come with me this summer, but I still plan on calling her every day." She looked back up at the horned girl with a smile. "Because that's what friends do! We cheer each other up and stick together no matter what happens! So let's be friends and maybe you can stop being sad!"

The emotionless mask on the girl's face cracked as she frowned. "It's… It's not that simple. You can't just say your friends and be friends."

"Of course you can! I'll show you!" Taylor walked up to the girl with a big smile and put her hand out. "My name's Taylor and I want to be your friend. What's your name?"

The horned girl just stared at Taylor for several seconds, and then sighed. Once again, there was a shift. She was no longer standing straight and her eyes looked so sad. She very slowly put her hand in Taylor's, slowly as if she thought she was going to be bitten. With a gingerly grasp, she spoke.

"My name's Kaede."
