The Stomach of Man under Socialism: Travels through Marxist-DeLeonist America

I had previously mentioned this TL, written by JesterBL and posted at both AH.com and the Sea Lion Press forum. It's an engrossing and highly original take on what is already an interesting question in and of itself: what would a Socialist America look like in practice? So I'd like those who have read it to tell us what they think.

One thing that the text hasn't mentioned yet is the precise POD, though we can infer from various hints that it was shortly after WW1. A revolutionary wave swept the US, spearheaded by the Industrial Workers of the World, and some 60-odd years later, a travel writer from Europe gives us his perspective on how the place has turned out, focusing, of all things, on cuisine. This is a more relevant framing device than one might think, considering how much influence American corporate capitalism has had on its own cuisine as well as, from the mid-20th century onwards, that of the rest of the world. Without OTL's corn lobby, fast food industry and car-dependent suburban lifestyle, what do Americans eat?

Welcome to a world without McDonalds, high fructose corn syrup or microwavable dinners. A world where the workers own the means of production. Welcome to Marxist-DeLeonist America!

Chapter 1: America's Native Spirit

"Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough."- Mark Twain

Let's begin our exploration of American food where many Americans begin their evening meal- with a stiff drink. The most likely stiff drink an American will pour for himself and for you if you are a guest is bourbon. It is considered impolite to refuse and, although rather different than anything you may have had before, it is best to get it over quickly. You will find your host does the same.

This art is unrelated to the TL (it's by Regicollis on DeviantArt) but it serves as a nice illustration to it.
