Now that you've got time stop tech ready to go for the most part, there's a few other things you want to do. First, you want to check upon Anne and make sure she's alright, that electrical spell did a real number on her and she might have some serious damage. For various reasons, though Joes get serviced down in engineering, some hospital beds have been hauled down there. Admittedly, long-term occupancy doesn't really happen much, but it's still nicer than a metal slab for doing operations or when they need to do mental defragmentation.
You quickly find Anne's bed, and there she is in her armored combat mode, her boyfriend by her side. You quickly check one of the displays for how long she's been here, and see to your dismay that Anne has been in safe mode for the last 87 hours. You nod to Dom, and inform him "I don't think Anne will recover from this on her own, this will likely require some extra measures."
All this new information, I don't know how to process it! HELP!
Thankfully, the Command Override system still works in safe mode, and you order "Command Override (query); are there any unknown extensions to your software? If yes, describe them."
Anne replies "There are two unknown software extensions. The first is feeding in sensory data in an unknown format. The second is an executable with several options."
Those are some really basic spells. Should be a few basic blasts, a bit of self-regen, a few really short-duration buffs.
You continue with "Command Override (query); What are the options for the executable?"
"There are 5 settings. Their designations translate to English as 'Thermal Adjustment', 'EMP blast', 'In-depth analysis', 'enhanced self-repair', and 'mass adjustment'.
You consider the probabilities, and decide "Activate enhanced self-repair." as it has the least chance to go wrong.
Anne's emotionless Safe Mode voice rings out "This program is attempting to make changes to the operating system. Continue?"
You answer in the affirmative, And after a few minutes, Anne restarts. As she sits up, she shifts to her civilian mode, and pulls her lover into a hug that you're sure would be tear-filled if Joes had tear ducts. Anyway, you butt in with "When you two are done, I'd like Anne to come talk with Gioachino. I think I know what happened."
Soon, the both of you are in Gio's office, and the man remarks "Well, feels like a mage in the room, besides the local Savant I mean. Mind telling an old Therapist who you are and how long have you been doing magic?"
Anne's answer is "I'm the 14th robot in the Joe model to be constructed, though I prefer to go by Anne. I've only been doing magic for about 20 minutes though."
Gio nods and looks thoughtful. It occurs to you to ask Anne "Anne, would you mind if I take a look at your code to see how your becoming a Mage actually works? I was thinking I might be able to add it as a standard feature for the rest of the Joe line."
Other things you do with your time include handing your R&D department a recipe for an alloy called Ceratanium and telling them to see if they can make it on an industrial scale. You also order up some time dilation boosted factories to crank out the equipment that you'll be selling to your backers, along with applying the technology to your pre-existing units that are capable of benefiting from it.
The UN wants more return on investment, so that's exactly what you're giving them, throwing massive amounts of money around building up the high tech infrastructure they'll need to become a spacefaring power. Factories are going up, along with a whole lot of other infrastructure across Europe. Things you're doing include producing fusion powered cargo SSTOs by the dozen, making clean fusion power plants and electric cars to supplant the current fossil fuel based infrastructure, and releasing the plans for fusion technology to the greater world after much prodding.
Back on base, you order the construction of a Time Lab, intended to accelerate research projects by a significant margin. You won't be able to use it all the time for obvious reasons, but soon you'll be able to have long running experiments that would normally take months or years done in just a few days. On a side note, one of your engineers suggested using it to age alcoholic beverages and cheese to get even more money.
After that intelligence report came in about some of the Savants extant worldwide, you've been trying to think of ways to act on it. One of the more worrying individuals is Mauno Laaksonen, what with his tendency to overwrite people's minds. You know that Sybille's currently hunting him in Berlin, and that he hasn't managed to leave town yet, but you want him out of the picture for good before he has a chance to get his hands on any of your tech. Step one of dealing with this is of course to quick-fab a few mind shields for your troops.
You're basing the new model off what you've managed to glean from Anne's Mage coding, and they work by converting any madness that winds up in the wearer directly into regeneration, or some other useful effects if they're already in prime condition. Unlike the old version, this model won't cause brain damage if worn for too long, and blocks all mental interference rather than just one specific type of energy.
Anyway, you have a few agents (one of them being Adrian, who managed to defrag on his own) with laser pistols briefed on their mission profile. They'll be getting teleported to one of the safehouses you have in Berlin, and from there they'll meet up with Sybille (contacted by your agent duo already on site) before tracking down Mauno.
The first step goes swimmingly, the teleportation being as seamless as ever. Making contact with Sybille also goes well, and then your taps into various surveillance networks reveal that Mauno's at Berlin Tegel Airport, waiting for his flight to Rio. The plane in question is going to depart in half an hour, and Mauno's smart enough not to mess with airport proceedings (such as re-fuelling) and possibly get himself killed.
I REALLY wanted to use an actual flight from there and have him be at the appropriate Gate, but it didn't pan out.
Course of action?
[] Beam in, zap him, beam out. (gives no time for him to try anything. Doesn't help your reputation in the slightest.)
[] Take a car in, say you're tracking down an international criminal, use contemporary equipment, drag him out. (He might try something, doesn't mess with your repuation)
[] Something else You could get him in-flight by the way.
