I know you've heard this before, but I'm REALLY sorry. I didn't think before posting about Skitter. I didn't mean to try to out her. Please, just give me an hour to say goodbye to everyone. You don't have to unban me. Just let me say goodbye.
xX_Void_Cowboy_Xx: Alathea?
xX_Void_Cowboy_Xx: Hello?
xX_Void_Cowboy_Xx: Testing. Are you getting my messages? I think the forum isn't sending properly.
xX_Void_Cowboy_Xx: It's been a couple hours now.
Alathea: Speculating on cape identities is strictly forbidden on Parahumans Online. You have a history of lying to moderators.
Alathea: As Judge and Tin Mother have already informed you, this ban is final. No goodbyes, no special treatment. Nothing.
Alathea: Do you understand now?
xX_Void_Cowboy_Xx: Please. Just pass on a message for me. Let me give GstringGirl my phone number. Or at least read her last PMs to me.
Alathea: Absolutely not. And don't try to message a fourth admin. I know about you asking Tin Mother and Judge before me.

---

You spent a long time staring at that last exchange. It wasn't the forums themselves that you'd miss, nobody took you seriously anymore after that stupid stunt you tried to pull after Leviathan. It was the lost connection. You couldn't talk to girls in real life. Hell, you couldn't even make friends in real life. GstringGirl was the one person who thought you were worth something. You'd fucked up. Again. You're not sure when you passed out. But in your dreams you saw them: two perfect, impossible beings, flying through the void toward the Earth. One of them - made of an impossible silver that was metal and crystal and liquid and music and truth all at the same time - smashed into the ground with a terrible crash. A single drop splashed toward you, burning and bright.

You awaken. The monitor is off, but there is a screen in front of you, glowing with that same impossible silver.

First vote of the quest is a bit of a doozy, folks! Please select which Stats and Skills Greg will raise, as well as what he will fill in for Religion, Substance, Civics, Politics, Economics, Ethics and his two Virtues. Race and Class will be selected in the vote after this. Greg's attributes do not let him to know what all of these choices imply without expending Hints to get more information. You may use a single Hint to bring up the manual entry about one entry on the character sheet, or to ask your power any other question the thread votes for. If you happen to recognize the third part of the crossover, please don't spoil it for the rest of the thread just yet. Your questmistress is amused by puns and she may award bonus experience for particularly groan-worthy ones. And finally, please keep in mind Rule 3 of the forum: Be Civil. If people are voting to make Greg be a Communist Idealist who believes in Free Will, don't get antsy and call them freedom-hating liberal scum just because you wanted a Catholic Materialist Bonapartist Greg instead. This is not a place for serious philosophical, political or theological discussion.

SPELL LIST

Requirements: Level 1 Idealist Metaphysician.
Type: Targeted, Kantian
Cost: 1W
Timing: 1
Effect: Strikes the true essence of a target for five mental damage, unmodified by defensive bonuses.
Requirements: Level 1 Metaphysician.
Type: Targeted, Computers, Technology
Cost: 1W
Timing: 1
Defense: B(S) > Your Level + 2
Effect: Distinguish a true human from a convincing simulacrum. On successfully casting this spell, you discover whether the target creature has a mind (and so is capable of taking mental damage) or whether it is a robot, clockwork creature, or p-zombie (and so can only be harmed by physical damage). On a successful Bullshyte save, target can choose which result you receive.

So if I wanted to ask what Virtues are, we would have to expend a Hint? If I guessed correctly - say the "traditional" 7 Contrary Virtues - would you confirm that I was correct, or is it explicitly unknown until an attempt is made to set one successfully, or a Hint is used?

As for Greg's beliefs, I'm kind of torn. My first instinct is to go for something not based on faith at all, and a take a science-y approach, but attempting to model him after my own beliefs may be somewhat missing the point.

What you know without a Hint: There's two spaces on the menu labelled "Virtue 1" and "Virtue 2", and Greg can fill in whatever words he wants for those boxes. When he fills in a box, he gets either a "Set Virtue to <whatever you put> Y/N?" confirmation message OR a "Could not parse, please reenter Virtue." error message.

If you spent a Hint, you can bring up the manual blurb for Virtues, which explains what they are, what they do, what a valid entry would look like and other helpful information regarding Virtues.

Hints will only be used if there is a consensus that one should be used.

The Religion box works the same way as the Virtue boxes - you can put in whatever you want. All other beliefs have preset choices.

Don't want to blow a hint on the stats and skills, but nothing I can see requires us to spend those immediately, we can try out what they mean first.

It's a reference to the people who put down "Jedi" on the census so that it would show up in official breakdowns of the population's religion - it's definitely Greg making a joke in a place where he really should be being serious.
Jedi census phenomenon - Wikipedia

Elf-Reliance
You study the screen, bewildered. It's like someone fused a dungeons and dragons character sheet with a census form. You recognize some of the words. You know what a belief is, obviously. STR is your Strength score, obviously. But what's MER? Mercy? PHR? Parahuman Response? Ohhhh, if that's what it is you've GOT to put all the points in it. What power are you going to. Wait, what if THIS-

No. That's how you got yourself into this situation - not thinking about things before we did them. You resist and fill out the other parts of the form instead. But on the other hand...

Race Selected: Elf! Elves cannot be left out of a role-playing game under any circumstances. Having become tired of slaving away in Santa's Workshop for the benefit of others, your people have adopted the principles of Objectivism en masse. Now they preach elf-reliance and the virtue of elfishness. Elves age slower based on their current wealth level and receive a bonus to Rationality, Merit and Bullshyte equal to their wealth level -3. Your current bonus is -2. Elves may carry an extra copy of Atlas Shrugged in addition to their usual two books. However, they start at -1 to Association.

New Quest: Obtain a copy of Atlas Shrugged. Reward: +1 Hints.

New Quest: Obtain Wealth. Reward: +5 to Oikonomia for 24 hours.

Religion Selected: Jedi! +1 to Bullshyte and -5% to XP costs in the Empiricist class. -10% damage from Apologists. -2 to Merit. Apologist class disabled. Afterlife disabled.

Substance Selected: Idealism! -10% damage from all physical attacks. +10% damage from all mental attacks. There are metaphysical consequences for this choice.

Civics Selected: Liberalism! +1 to Oikonomia. There are tax consequences for this choice.

Virtues Selected: Diligence and Curiousity. Actions relating to these Virtues have increased moral consequences.

You brush your hand through your hair. You feel something on your head. As you jerk away from the screen, you realize that either the room has gotten a lot bigger, or you've gotten a lot smaller. You start to wonder if maybe picking Elf wasn't a good idea.

Yeah, we weren't thinking of Santa's elves - unlike pointy ears and possibly a more slender frame, the height difference is likely impossible to hide.

Nah, we knew we were making Greg make a dumb joke. It's more the implication that there is an afterlife and we've shut ourselves out of it that's tripped us up - IC Greg's gonna be salty as hell, if he doesn't assume it's a joke. (Which he probably will, actually.)

Oh.

Um?

Class Selected: Metaphysician. Next Level: 0/50 XP.
The Metaphysician deals with the deep structure of the world and the meaning of reality itself. They also focus on the mind, consciousness, and on the division between body and soul. Most likely cause of death: voluntarily turning into a vampire in an attempt to find out what it is like to be a bat.
