The Politics of Military Sci-Fi

There was a discussion on military sci-fi a while ago, and I found that to be an interesting topic. There were mentions of the fact that quite a lot of them, like, say, John Ringo's books, Honor Harrington, Mass Effect, maybe Robert Heinlein, they all have a view of "Military rules, Politicians drool". You could say that military science fiction does give a good opportunity for a solid Good vs Evil type of conflict in that a popular setting would be aliens invading Earth, humans having to fight it off, all that stuff.

So. what do you folks think of that? What would you consider the politics of military science fiction?

While not 100% universal milSF does tend to have a conservative bent. Pro- militarism, and also often pro monarchy. Maybe a dash of capitalism when the economics get involved.
