I imagine that most people on this site currently have a subscription to a streaming service, which is evidenced by the large threads centered on shows exclusive to the major services. However there are likely tons of shows that have not received the same buzz, either due to obscurity or not being able to sustain pages worth of disscution the way that the She Ra's, The Mandalorian's and The Boys of the services are able to.
So I decided to set up this thread to give some attention to interesting but overlooked shows. Now I am personally limited to Netflix, but I wellcome anything from any streaming platform to be recommended. They should preferably be originals, but interesting stuff generally is also okay. I recommend posting at least a trailer and a short synopsis and an explanation of why you think it's worthwhile. Any genre is wellcome, as long as warnings are given incase there is offensive content.
As a start, here are my personal recommendations:
I won't hide the fact that food is one of my joys in life. I love shows about district cuisines, and here is a show about the various food items in diffrent parts of China. Season one is about Chaoshan while two is about Yunnan. The focus is on the amazing cinematography that captures the food preparation, as opposed to personality focused food shows most may be familiar with. Each episode is ten minutes long so it should not overstay it's welcome. And it makes me hungry for the flower of a Hardy Bannana (good luck guessing what that refers to without context).
Yes, they made a whole series out of a single pretty short book. And yes it works. The animation is handrawn and Michel Douglas voices one of the main characters. Note it is fairly obvious which audiance it's aimed for, but I am pretty you animation fans will be interested.
Only seen one episode, but it looks promising. It's about the episodic clientele of a midnight diner in Tokyo. No big bells and whistles here, but it utilizes it main setting well, and seems to be a good slice of multible lives. And this is coming from a guy usually bored with the genre. Must be the food.
I tried to give a spread of genres, hope you find these interesting.
