Ch.1.1
June 4th [POV Catherine Colbert]

The summer was always the worst time of year to work at the Hall of Justice. The tourists season was at its height, and it seemed to Catherine every person with an ounce of political connection would avail of her for a personal meeting with a member of the League. She inevitably had to turn them all down, no matter how much little Timmy was looking forward to meeting with Superman. Thankfully most of the League had autographed enough memorabilia to mollify the most irate tourist. If the free swag wasn't enough a personal tour of the Hall including some of the so called restricted sections usually did the trick.

Unfortunately it meant a good chunk of her work week was taken up dealing with these knuckleheads issues instead of doing her actual job. So during the summer she tended to work later into the day then she preferred. Not that she was complaining, the League paid great, and the overtime was even better. Besides it was the League policy not to have any non-League members at the Hall after dark for safety concerns. So she usually didn't have to work that late, barring any supervillain whose plans always make her day worse.

Today was a good day, only one tour in the morning, and all was quiet on the League front, so it seemed she was going to be able to get out of the office by five. Her hopes were dashed when Stacy, her assistant, knocked at her office door.

"I'm sorry to bother you, but there is a boy in the lobby I think you should meet." Stacy said pleadingly.

"Why is that?" Asked Catherine trying to keep the frustration out of her voice. As much as she loved and depended on Stacy she had a tendency to bring every sob story to her attention. Stacy's heart was in the right place, but when Catherine inevitably couldn't help the person it left her feeling terrible.

"He is just the sweetest guy you'll ever meet. He's been trying to get someone to introduce him to Red Tornado. He is not pestering anyone too much, but he's been here from dusk till dawn for the last three days asking anyone who will give him the time of day. I met him on my break and can you believe he said he knew I could help him because my aura was so bright. I told him I knew just the person he needed to talk to." Stacy said all in one breath.

"And?" Asked Catherine. There was always an important detail Stacy left out.

"Oh, he's blind and probably homeless judging by his clothes. He also has a strong accent and doesn't seem to have a full grasp of English."

Stacy paused for a moment before speaking again.

"Ok, I can see how this looks, but I don't think he's wanting to meet with a hero for the normal touristy reasons. I believe it would be best for you to meet with him. Besides, I don't think he'll stop coming around if you don't meet with him."

Catherine gave it a thought for a moment before saying " I'll meet with him, but I want security on alert in case things get ugly. We don't want another Mitchell Mayo incident. My office stank for months thanks to that lunatic. "

A few minutes later Stacy returned with the guy that at first glance Catherine wouldn't have described as sweet. No one as well built as the stranger could ever describe as sweet, well maybe Captain Marvel, but he was a special exception. Though Stacy had been right about the clothes, the second hand cast offs were looking like they had seen far better days, especially the beanie on his head that had several visible holes. An odd choice in summer, but Catherine didn't judge. Especially given that the stranger was obviously blind. Only the blind had eyes that were opaque as his. He probably wasn't aware of how ragged he looked in his get up.

The stranger, who couldn't be older than sixteen, folded his hands together and bowed to her and spoke in an oddly rhythmic accent "Hello, Miss Catherine Colbert, I am Bolin Beifong, the radiant Miss Stacy told me you could help me with my endeavor."

Stacy beamed at the compliment, as she guided Bolin to the closet chair. She then left the room, closing her office door to give them more privacy as they spoke.

"Well please have a seat, and I'll see what I can do for you." Catherine said as she took her own behind her desk.

"Miss Catherine if you please tell me where is the Tornado of Red, for I much desire to speak with him."

"… What did you say?"

"I apologize, I meant Red Tornado, I'm still learning your language, and I sometimes fall back into the grammar of my native tongue."

"It is no problem, I had the same problem when I was learning English. It is a difficult language to learn. Though that doesn't answer the question of why you want to meet Red Tornado. Are you or your family in any danger, I can put you in contact with the local authorities, or ARGUS if needed. I know they may not be as flashy as the League but you'll be just as safe."

"No, me and my family are in no danger as far as I am aware. I simply wish to speak with Red Tornado on a deeply personal matter. It is not time sensitive or a matter of great importance to anyone besides myself, but I believe we would have much to discuss. "

"I can certainly put in a request, but he is likely to decline. Red Tornado is one of the less sociable members of League." It was the understatement of the year. Besides Batman, Red Tornado was the hardest to corral for the PR events. It was a shame given he was extremely popular with young boys. His action figure line was only out sold by the Wonder Women pin ups.

" I understand that Red Tornado must have many commitments to his time, but from what I have gathered from speaking to the staff here is if anyone in this building could facilitate a meeting it would be you. What do I need to do to convince you to do so?"

Catherine thought about it for a moment before saying " I need more of a reason than you want to meet with Red Tornado on a personal matter. If you could give me a hint of what you would want to talk about, and if it's important enough I can make a meeting happen."

Bolin seemed to ponder the question for a few seconds then he raised his left hand and began moving it in a slight circular motion. A small tornado appeared out of thin air hovering in the center of his hand and the reason why this Bolin wanted to meet with Red Tornado became suddenly obvious.

Catherine sighed, as she knew that she wasn't going to get out of the office early today after all.

Ch.1.2
June 4th [POV Bolin Beifong]

The vile bitter liquid was getting cold as Bolin waited in the conference room as his unseen observers deliberated. Why would anyone drink this Coffee when they had perfectly good tea escaped him. You could apparently add sweeteners to dule the bitterness, but at that point it just made sense to have tea. In his travels around the four nations with the Air Nation and his mother, Bolin had not found any tea that could not be made palatable with the proper blend, no sweetener needed. Still Bolin hadn't had the chance to truly explore the culinary variety of this world. Being a penniless wanderer, what food and drink he had eaten had been limited. There could still be a type of coffee out in the world that he would enjoy.

He hadn't wanted to refuse the drink when Miss Catherine offered it to him while he waited. It had been difficult enough to finally get a meeting with Red Tornado, Bolin didn't want to do anything to muck it up. If having to drink a bitter liquid that gave him the runs, it was a small price to pay.

Because Bolin didn't learn English and travel for months across this America without reason. Ever since he learned that he wasn't the only bender stranded in this odd world full of wonders and terrors, Bolin had one overriding goal to meet them. For he desperately missed his family, his friends, and most of all he missed May, his shirshu animal companion. It was irrational, but he felt any connection to his homeland would help alleviate his sorrow.

Bolin wasn't sure how Red Tornado had found his way through the spirit world as he did. He had only fallen through to this world closing the hole Vaatu had teared open trying to destroy the spirit world. If any bending discipline could do the same airbender was the best bet. Bolin was sure the Red Tornado was an airbender of the highest order.

Bolin's attention peaked when he felt through his seismic sense the four observers break away from what he assumed was a computer of some type. His blindness usually didn't hamper his life, given his mastery of his great great grandmother Toph technique of sensing the vibration through the earth with his native earth bending abilities. The Hall of Justice being made nearly entirely out of cut stone was a perfect environment for him to sense in. Including the restricted section that he felt the four observers materialized from the thin air. They had spoken to Miss Catherine for a while, then spoke among themselves for the last hour or so.

Whatever they had been discussing had seemed to be concluded as they were making their way through the hall towards his position. As they got closer the Bolin began to sense greater detail about their appearance. All seemed to be men, though two of them had odd steps. One was lighter than he should be, and the other far heavier than man should be. Maybe one of those alien spirits he had heard were members of League.

Seismic sense wasn't the only way Bolin could see through bending. All benders possessed an unconscious awareness of their element. Most didn't realize they even possessed the skill. Only benders of advanced skill made the leap of sensing the elements actively. It wasn't really that useful a skill as you were always surrounded by air, earth tended to be on the ground, and fire you could see and feel the heat. Only water was truly useful. It could be hidden in the air, plants, and most importantly blood.

Sensing blood allowed him to have an awareness of individuals around him separate from his other senses. So it unnerved him when the group split before entering the room. He sensed the water within three of them as waited on the other side of the door. The fourth man who entered the room seemed to be made of metal.

Bolin rose from his chair and bowed towards the group and said, trying to keep the trepidation out of his voice "Greetings, I'm Bolin Beifong the Avatar. Am I correct in assuming I'm addressing the Red Tornado?"

"That is me. I was told you wanted to meet with me." Said Red Tornado in an emotionless artificial voice.

"Yes I did, but I'm beginning to fear I may have made a fool out of myself. You don't happen to be the spirit of an Air Nomad inhabiting that metal body?" Bolin said as he felt his hope of going home slowly disappearing.

"No, I'm an android created by Dr T.O. Morrow." Said Red Tornado as Bolin's heart sank as his whole purpose for this meeting went up in flames.

"From your expression I summarize this wasn't the answer you were hoping for?"

"When I heard there was a master airbender amongst the Justice League I had hoped you were from the Four Nations and knew a way back to my homeland."

"Why would you assume I was from these Four Nations?" Asked Red Tornado.

Bolin took off his beanie revealing the marks of mastery upon his bald head.

"People I have met in this world told me that my mastery tattoos are the same as yours. In Air Nomad culture these tattoos are given to those who have successfully become a master airbender as a right of passage. I assumed yours meant that you were a master airbender who had traveled to this world."

Strictly speaking as a native earthbender it was not necessary for him to get the tattoos, but his mother had encouraged him to get them like all of his cousins and siblings.

He had started to hide his own tattoos after being accused as a stalker super fan of Tornado's. His grandfather and namesake had similar problems with fans in the past and Bolin didn't need that stigma following him.

"I can see logic in that deduction, however my origins and nature are not a secret to the public record. Why didn't you research further before asking for this meeting."

"I'm blind I can not read or write. Those I have asked about you failed to mention the fact you were an android. I'm not even sure what that is besides meaning you are made of metal."

"It means I'm artificial intelligence using a constructed body to interact with the physical world."

"I don't know what an artificial intelligence is either."

"An artificial intelligence is" Red Tornado said but was stopped when Bolin raised his hand.

"I believe we're starting to get off topic. If your markings aren't mastery tattoos then what are they?" Asked Bolin.

"They are a stylized letter T representing my creator's trademark T.O. Morrow. They are supposed to be pointing into tomorrow at the same time looking like a symbol for a tornado for my aerokinesis abilities."

Bolin sighed in frustration.

"I apologize I have wasted both of our time in this endeavor."

" Not necessarily I would like to speak to you about this Airbending. I do not often have the chance to speak to those with similar power sets to my own. In addition my associates are waiting outside, they apparently have been trying to make contact with you for the last few weeks. If you could speak too them I would count this meeting as time well spent." Said Red Tornado.

Bolin thought about it for a moment. He wanted to hide in hole somewhere and vent his frustration. It wouldn't be the right thing to do after dragging Red Tornado from his work.

" I'm willing to do so, but I have one small request." Asked Bolin.

" Which is?"

" Is there anything to drink besides this coffee. Preferable tea, but any other drink would be a vast improvement."
