Votes that do not follow the template will not be counted!

At this time I am using a counter system, listing the number of days votes take to be put into action. However for write-in votes you don't know how many days an action may take. For this we will use the old system of Major/Minor Decisions, and I will tell you how many days/weeks/months the plan will take. Remember that every month has 28 days, and that there are 13 months in the year with New Years as a special day alone outside the months. There is no leap year, as their calendar is not accurate to that degree.

Major decisions are any new endeavors. Finding new investments. Finding new allies (specify what type, where you're looking if possible, what you want from them, etc) finding new trainers, starting new training even if it is with people you already know... Anything new.

No mixing something that would qualify as a minor decision or free action into your major votes! If you have a question about your votes, ask me.

Talking with specific people about specific subjects. You can generally only talk with one person at a time with this. There are simple logical exceptions, Husband & Wife combos can be put together as one conversation, brother & sister, stuff like that. I'll clarify if a combo is unacceptable when I see the vote. This is also for continuing any long term action. Any major decision that you have already voted to start (not just mused about in-story) can be a minor action the next time around. Continuing training that you have already begun for example. Continuing a long-term investigation or plot. Stuff like this.

Making small talk with characters. You will not learn anything special really, but it gives you more insight into their backgrounds and history, can raise/lower their loyalty or other relationship points with you, etc. Raising/lowering and how much depends on rolls.

These can interrupt any current action(s) and will take precedence over the current plan. A way to change things on the fly as you discover new information or alternate ways to potentially enhance your plan, or change it completely if needed.

Remember for all votes if you take a guard or other individual with you, you will need to write-in which guard/person you take with you (just saying take a guard or ally will leave the decision of which one up to me) and also whether Daenerys tries to use any future knowledge on the decision as well if it is one of hers or she is present. (She still may decide to try and use her future knowledge without your consent if she thinks it necessary.) These details are sub-votes.

[] [Plan] X (Current Month, Short Term, Long Term, Immediate Actions, Purchases, etc.)
-[] Major Decisions: Character name here
--[] Major Decision 1
---[] Sub-conditions of Major Decision 1
---[] Sub-conditions of Major Decision 1
--[] Major Decision 2
---[] Sub-conditions of Major Decision 2
---[] Sub-conditions of Major Decision 2
-[] Minor Decisions: Character name here
--[] Minor Decision 1
---[] Sub-conditions of Minor Decision 1
---[] Sub-conditions of Minor Decision 1
--[] Minor Decision 2
-[] Free Actions: Character name here
--[] Free Action 1
---[] Sub-conditions
--[] Free Action 2
---[] Sub-conditions

You get the jist of this.

However, under the plan vote, you will then put a "Priority" Vote.

[] Aegon Priority: 1. Major Decision 1, 2. Free Action 2, 3. Minor Decision 1, 4. Major Decision 2, etc.
[] Daenerys Priority: 1. Free Action 2, 2. Major Decision 3, 3. Minor Decision 1, etc.

This way we can vote on the general plan, then I can separate the order of events in said plan.

Don't put V1, V2, or any other such revision information into your plan. Just leave it like I have it. Nothing extra. The tally system will update to your newest post. No need to make version markers. It just makes things harder for me.

If an action in a plan is not one for a specific character, more a general idea of what needs to be done, it will still need to go into the priority matrix.

At the end of all your votes, put your reasons explaining your vote choice. As I've said before, a plan with reasons will get more weight than one without. Because reasons matter. I care about reasons more than numbers. I need reasons to help build the characters. Get used to putting reasons into your plans, as eventually reasons will become a requirement rather than a suggestion. This post will change when that occurs.

[] [Plan] X

You may (but are not required to) put additional reasons to agree with that plan beneath your vote if there are reasons for it that the original vote creator didn't put in that you thought of. The more/better the reasoning inside explaining a vote, the greater the chance it will be added into the story.

Votes are typically closed after either 12 or 24 hours unless real life interferes. Ties will be either decided by me, or by whoever is in the forum or the Discord that has not voted already at the time. I will @ whoever is currently in the forum or Discord that I choose to be the tiebreaker.

Plans have specific timelines. Immediate Actions are obviously immediate. Current Month is similarly self-explanatory. Short Term is something that can conceivably be done within 1-3 months, and Long Term is 3-6 months.

You aren't the only one who does this. People are used to stories and games being more idealized worlds. That's why shows like GoT that have main characters die are so shocking to us. The Red Wedding? Was shocking because it was a fantasy story. No one would be shocked if it was a history story. Treat it like real life and you'll do better in this quest.

Remember, you go to work, you have people there you like, people there you have no feelings one way or the other for, and people there you hate. But you still work with them and smile in their faces because you have to be professional to put food on the table.

The same is in the quest. Business is about money. Not friends. Enemies will do business together if it is profitable. Interactions are key to making allies.

That is pretty untrue... Events like the Red Wedding might have some basis in history (I think G.R.R.M explicitly mentions some events in 14-15th century scotland) but they were rare and more importantly were viewed as shocking and exceptional by both the people today as well as the people at that time. Medieval age was a more brutal time but not total anarchy...

I'm not saying that the event wasn't shocking. I'm saying that we're used to the benefits of our idealized worlds in stories. I wasn't talking about guest-right being violated. Which in and of itself was shocking in that time period, yes. I was talking about things like main characters dying being the shocking part.

Robb Stark, the young wolf, avenger of house Stark dies not in battle against an enemy, but at a wedding? The only thing more shocking would be if all the Starks end up dying tragically, unavenged with the Lannisters still on the throne. That is categorically true, which is why it is always a big deal when stories do it. Every time a story comes out that does it, people talk about how "daring" it is. That happens because people aren't used to it. Far more stories have plot armor.

For TV shows it's Game of Thrones. For anime it was Attack on Titan. For books well, Game of Thrones again. Most stories aren't like that. If most stories were, Hermione and Ron would have died in Harry Potter. But we knew that wasn't going to happen. Not many stories do that. One or two main characters sure. But not this many.

Stories tend to kill side characters in order to highlight how bad an enemy is, then kill one or two mains for shock value and anger before the hero takes down the bad guy to get justice and/or revenge. They don't generally kill entire family lines and let bad guys win. Unless that's the beginning of the story, and the hero's entire family being killed is what motivates him.

This is because in real life there are no "main characters" and we recognize that anything can happen to anyone. In stories we think we know who the story is about and so they "obviously" have to survive to the end. This results in people surviving things they shouldn't, which is where Plot Armor or Deus Ex Machina comes into play. Those tropes exist solely because there are times when people can't figure another way to keep certain characters alive.

This idealism gets extended into other areas. And so things are easier in fantasy than they are in reality.

A Divine Order For This Mortal Coil - Part Six
Winning Vote:

Keep the guild and the guard force separate. Two different business ventures so you can charge the guild full price. 2 Talons for setup. All profits remain your own.

A Divine Order For This Mortal Coil - Part Six
Third Week of the Fifth Month 297 AC

Having talked with the merchants about the Barons, (as well as subtly inquiring about the Silver Scorpions) you know that the men outside spoke truth. The Silver Scorpions were more guards than bandits, though there were obviously times that they acted... unfavorably. Still, those times were few, and Lester kept them in line for the most part. With his death though, they fell apart.

The Barons are led by a former member of the Scorpions, a man who was tired of being "kept in line" by Lester. He took with him most of the rogue elements, and what's left while diminished in number, are the better in temperament.

As for ideas about forming a guild, the idea has merit, but you think it unlikely that they will invite you to the table. While they have no problem paying you for a job well done if you complete your task, you are new to Braavos, and they do not know you well enough to join such a group with you. Though it does seem that they are thinking about doing so with each other. An opportunity missed most likely, unless you can come up with a better argument than the one you gave tonight. It may be better to broach the subject again once you actually own some businesses that are actually in their area of the city. Otherwise it might be best to simply try elsewhere.

When you go outside Garrett is there waiting, though the others are gone. At your questioning look he simply says that he sent them to get the rest of his people. If you're going to take down the Barons, surprise is the way to go, and frankly, he doesn't want to give the Barons time to get information from anyone that might be playing both sides of this conflict. You move tonight, or not at all.

Having expected to at least have some time to setup a plan of attack, or to be able to bring some of your paid guards with you, you are not sure how to react at first. But your blood rushes in your veins as you remember how easily you trounced this lot, and you agree.

Down the dark alleyways of Braavos you travel, passing unlit lanterns and darkened doorways as you go. People scurry about, moving on their own business, and your clothes are really looking too fine for this area. More than once people make eyes at you, obviously judging the risk of taking you on. Thankfully, being with your current companion keeps anyone from trying to accost you. You need to be at full strength tonight, not already tired from dealing with random thugs before you face an armed gang.

Eventually you and Garrett come to a large open area around a well. It is filled with about 15 men, but there is still ample room to move around. "Ed!" Garrett calls out, and a 16th man appears in a doorway. "Is it done?" Garrett asks ambiguously.

"Aye," Ed responds.

"Good," Garrett says, nodding slightly. "Then we wait."

"Wait?" you ask unsure what is happening. "What or who are we waiting for?" you ask, feeling a sense of dread creep down your back.

"Barons," Garrett replies gravely.

'Oh shit.' you think. Garrett is some kind of honorable type. 'The bloody fool has gone and requested some kind of official fight or meeting instead of us leading a sneak attack on them!?' Too late, you realize just why the Silver Scorpions stared losing to the Barons. Garrett is an idiot when it comes to tactics, and you're here without guards.

You turn and look around, trying to find the best route to slip away unnoticed before the Barons arrive, when you hear footsteps approaching. Too many to be anything but the rival gang.

'Fuck.'

What do you do?

[] Write-in

The die were not nice to you today. First you were braver than you were sensible, and went along with Garrett's plan to attack tonight then you had Garrett be stupid. Not a good set of things to happen together.

So I talked withe the QM on discord and he said Aegon thinks that it sounds like 30 people. We're really outnumbered. Let's run?

[X] Plan: Better a coward for a minute, than dead for the rest of your life.
- [X] Quickly ask for Garret's plan and for details on your opposition. If it seems good, do your best to help. If you think it has a high chance of failure, try to convince him to retreat.
- [X] If Garret refuses, try to convince his men to retreat.
- [X] If they refuse, retreat yourself.
- [X] If you can't retreat, send a prayer to the gods and ready yourself for battle!

We don't actually know what Garret has planned. It seems like he was an idiot, but maybe we're giving him too little credit.

That being said, there is way more uncertainty to this event than I'm comfortable with. Live to fight another day.

Well. Not many votes on this one. And what the hell is with people somehow voting one chapter behind lately? Once was a surprise, this is what? Three times now? Is something glitching? The last parts not showing up for people? It's not a problem, just honestly curious if people aren't seeing the update.

Anyway, I was ready to write the next segment, but not enough votes are in. Guess I'll wait.
