The dirt under your nails - ARCANE

Also, it took 5 seasons for Catradora to kiss.

So my suggestion is to wait but if it does not happen we riot.
On the other hand if it happens, it may actually be the highest profile LGBT relationship in media.

I love She-Ra, but She-Ra is a quite niche show.

Yes, but Arcane has way bigger mainstream impact. Obviously She-Ra is way better when it comes to LGBT, but Arcane does have a great potential to actually shape public discourse.

My hope is that potential is realized.

To quote the Honest Trailer,"Can't jeopardize that China Release."
No.

It has nothing to do with the China release and has everything to do with Riot's upper management being a bunch of regressive assholes. The 'because of China' meme is not only kinda racist and nationalist, because it implies it's the fault of another nation's policy, but also winds up passing the buck from where it belongs, shitty executives who are ultimately responsible for decisions like this.

thank you everyone blaming Tencent for what ever Riot does when actually they are very hands off.

the thing is, China IS part of the problem.
It's both issues within Riot and cultural stuff in China. Not just one or the other.

As for Catradora that almost didn't happen because of US political worries.

People want to tell progressive stories, but various issues both at home and abroad make it a big risk.

i have a issue with people praising Arcane for LGBTQ repsention for implied two conventionally attractive white women are together. never stating it and no homoing any MLM content. especially since other animated and Netflix shows are much better with queer content.

like Sex Education or She-Ra.

especially since Riot Games has issues with MLM content.
While I do agree that people shouldn't be praising Arcane for representation yet, a point to note is that Caitlyn isn't white. She's (vaguely?) east-asian/part asian in an unspecific way (her Arcane version is at least).

and has anyone stated that Tencent is the reason Riot can't tell queer stories? from what i seen form former employee it seemed to be going on before Tencent bought Riot.

why does the Chinese government hate queer people anyways?

and effeminate men too.

i guess like Russia a authoritarian government with strongman that dislikes people breaking gender roles as gender enforcement and authoritarianism seemed to be linked.

You basically answered yourself. XD

Does anyone else think that Milo was just as, if not more insecure than Powder was? I know most people just see him being a regular teen but I think its more than that.

Comparing him to everyone else, it seemed like he was the most average in the family. Vi was the best fighter, Clagger was the strongest, Powder was naturally inventive/intelligent(even if she didn't think much of herself) and what about Milo? He picks locks. Except the first time we see him try, he fails, and Vi is forced to kick the door open, making him useless.

Everything Vi lists in this scene spells out his character; he's trying to make himself look good/cool, either through lifting himself up or tearing others down. The latter happens the most with Powder.

Why her? Not only is she the youngest, she's also the only person in the family he can claim to be better at in most aspects weather it be fighting, roof hopping or otherwise. So she's the easiest and most obvious target to vent at when he's trying to either make himself feel better in comparison.

What really sells me on Milo's insecurity is the first moment he actually gets a personal victory. We already saw Milo fail at lock picking once, and the second time we see him do it, he fumbling, nervous from the situation of being rushed to rescue Vander while Vi holds off Silco's people. Vander-whom I'm assuming is the one who taught him how to pick locks in the first place-looks him in the eye and tells him to,"Take a deep breath, you can do this."

He visibly calms down and gets to work, eventually freeing Vander with a genuinely happy smile on his face and an approving nod from his father figure.

It's actually kinda sad to think about actually, if Milo was a little kinder and a little more understanding to Powder, I think the two of them could've had a deeper connection as the ones who felt 'inadequate' compared to their other siblings.

I mean, being insecure is part of growing up, especially with a couple siblings in the mix. There is always comparisons between siblings. And ya, Mylo's one skill is lock picking (and he wasn't even failing at it in episode 1, Vi was just impatient and does not like to hear him run his mouth).
As a guy with a few siblings myself I know what it's like when you try to stand shoulder to shoulder with others. Sure none of my older siblings actively looked down on me, but one's own mind can be one's own worst enemy. They all made it through K-12 with good marks, I barely made it through the last half without having to repeat a year.
Mylo was a dick and a big player in the festering issues, but like with basically everyone in the show he was painfully human.

Side note, it still baffles me that people thought Mylo was going to be Viktor. Sure it was from the first trailer a few years back before we knew the names of the 2 guys with young Vi and young Jinx and thus we didn't know their names, but there were people that thought Mylo was Viktor and Claggor was Jayce. -.-

Mylo was all for the very dangerous rescue mission for Vander and lambasted powder for running instead of getting the pulp kicked out of her like the rest of them did even though the rival gang were older and stronger.

Vi put him in place but clearly considered him family and so did Vander.

Powder seems to talk to him most out of her hallucinations so they probably interacted most albeit in a negative way.

I think we're meant to take him as basically a normal shitty middle child who still loves his family. Give him a few years and he would probably mature, maybe even getting on with Powder as the runts.

Like the gang are so painfully clearly kids and the plot tears their childhood to pieces and jumps ahead seven years to stunted individuals who know that they are different people but don't yet understand what their new selves are yet. I lean towards them growing up strong together if given a chance just because as tough as the undercity life is they had each other and Vander and a fairly clear place to grow into.

That oughta be the show's tagline. It also helps that the show treats its audience with respect and doesn't try to spoon feed us info about why characters act the way they do; they show us a little backstory, give us some poignant interactions and let us make our own assumptions.

That's hysterical. I maybe would've seen it with Mylo-I don't think we've seen a human version of Viktor in game-but Clagger Jayce is a real reach.

I think we could all see Vi taking over the Last Drop for Vander.
I could see Claggor and Mylo working there, too, but Vi would clearly be in charge.
Powder would be with Ekko as the 2 take over Benzo's place as they continue to tinker and build together.

Actually I really like the idea now of Mylo and Powder just constantly bickering forever but growing to be the closest of the siblings and doing everything together 'hating' every single second of each other's company.

China is VERY iffy on portrayals of lgbt people in media and will often censor them. I am sure homophobes inside studios are happy to have china as an excuse to cut LGBT content, but china does provide the excuse by their often regressive policies.

Tnecent has killed media groups before. They're like.... just another EA but much bigger. They're not worse for being chinese, but they are a media megacorp with all the awful shit that implies.

and as long as Caitlyn and Vi don't kiss on screen then no one can be mad.
right?
right?????
>.>
ah who am I kidding. kiss or no kiss someone will be upset.

Eh, probably. But truth be told, I think even people who don't support homosexuality could still appreciate how it's being handled in the show. Taking time to actually establish a connection instead of just smashing them together at least shows some respect in treating them like people instead of archetypes or check boxes to fill a quota.
