He had sacrificed much.

He killed the Crowfather to gain his secrets.

Went to a world on the edge of destruction at the hands of a new force corrupting everything it touched.

He met, helped, fought, and killed many on his journey to the Tree of Life.

At the end of his journey, he fought a literal ghost of his past as the true nature of the corruption was revealed. The angry, raging spirits of the Nephilim, his own kind had become an infection worming its way into the heart of the universe. If it was left alone it would upset the Balance anew and force the Four to kill their own kind yet again.

But, as the oldest of the Horsemen, he would not allow that. He would take on that burden alone.

So, he put an end to the Nephilim for the second time. Then paid the ultimate price, so that Humanity may return, and his brother War would be absolved of all crimes.

He had done everything that was required of him.

"Then why have I returned here!!!" Death, the fourth Horseman of the Apocalypse, calls out to the three burning, stone mouths that represent the Charred Council. Their forms stand imperiously, towering over the smaller Horseman who angrily stood amid them. The flames that indicate their presence are gone, leaving naught but their husk staring down at Death.

With the Council standing silent, Death calls out to the one he knows is responsible for this, "Crowfather! Show yourself!" The skeletal Horseman whips his body in every direction to search for the spirit of the now dead Keeper of Secrets.

A dark, wheezing laugh echoes throughout the rock-filled expanse. A cold wind blows past Death, who turns around to swiftly face the transparent spirit behind him. "As impulsive as ever, Horseman," the Crowfather's ghost stands in defiance of the fact that Death took his life long before this, "sacrificing yourself for humankind has done nothing to quell your temper, I see." The old man looks just like his namesake. His shoulders are covered by numerous crow feathers that meet at the back of his neck. He hunches forward with his crooked, hooked nose very pronounced. His green eyes stare at Death with a lilt of humor in them.

The Horseman unsheathes his scythes as he slowly advances on the specter. He accusingly points one of his weapons at the Crowfather, "You! You said that the Tree would revive humanity, and that would absolve my brother of his crimes!"

The spirit floats backward just as Death swipes at the ground where it once was. The Crowfather lands a few feet away from the dais. He raises an elongated finger and crooks it in a way to get Death to follow him. "I did not lie to you Horseman, you have accomplished your goals. But there are powers that still require your 'unique' talents. Follow, if you wish for more answers."

"Wait!" Death shouts while running after the spirit. Dust, the crow that always accompanies him, lands on Death's shoulder just as he reaches the dusty ground where the Crowfather once was. The Keeper of Secrets appears again, far enough away to be out of range of Death's scythes, but not so far as to leave the Horseman's sight.

The Horseman chases after the dead man, if only because he is the only one who can give him answers now. He rushes through the barren, burning wasteland around him. With a thought, he summons Despair to him. The pale, flaming horse whinnies as its rider jumps onto its back. Death chases after the constantly disappearing and reappearing figure until they turn a sharp corner.

Death pulls his horse to a stop in front of a large, blue portal that reminds him very much of how he traveled between the Forge Lands and other worlds. The gateway shimmers brightly, its destination distorted and unrecognizable. The Horseman remains mounted while calling into the emptiness, "I have already done enough for someone else's world. And that was only so War wouldn't be tried for crimes he hasn't committed. I see no reason to do the same for another."

Death pulls the reigns of Despair away from the portal and begins to trot away. The Crowfather materializes in front of the gateway and chuckles, "I am aware of this, I assure you, Horseman. Which is why those who have called for you would like to strike a deal."

The Pale Rider chuckles darkly, "A deal with Death? Just like the last one we made? Need I remind you how that turned out?"

The Keeper laughs at the memory of what caused his end, "No, no. That is not necessary. And the Forces that ask your aid would offer something that even you would be interested in, the protection of your family."

Death turns Despair around to face the Crowfather, "My brothers and I need no protection."

"Against things from this realm, no. But what of outside of it?" The Keeper gestures at the portal. The images within contort until they become as clear as the glass in a mirror. Death gazes into it as the Keeper continues, "Within this other realm, an immense power threatens the Balance of not only their Universe but ours. If they are not stopped soon, they will come for us. And their power might be enough to threaten not just the Council, but you Four as well."

Death looks down at the Crowfather with disdain in his eye, "How can you be sure of this? Has dying given you insight into future events?"

The Keeper shakes his head, "No. I am merely relaying a message from those who stand Above the Charred. This one will certainly come for you and yours if they are left to their own devices. If you wish to defend your family, then destroy the ones They indicate. Otherwise, you will leave a threat that could grow to be greater than you Four."

Death remains still, his eyes kept on the portal in front of him. He doesn't trust the Crowfather, but he is no stranger to killing those who would do harm in the future. It is why he slaughtered his own kin, twice over. He knows not the ones the Keeper speaks of, but it is clear they are not allied with the Council. Otherwise, they would've let the Charred send Death upon this quest.

He carries many doubts about this. Doubts about whether the Crowfather speaks the truth, whether those "Above" the Council should be trusted, and whether killing this one…. creature would really stop the creation of something that could threaten the Balance and the Horsemen.

However, one thing he is unaware of is whether his actions have truly absolved his brother from his crimes. Until he knows that….

"If I find that you and those you speak for are lying to me, I will find you and kill all of you," Death says as he gets Despair ready. With a swift crack of the reigns, Despair rockets forward. With a flaming green path blazed behind him, Death jumps through the portal into the unknown world.

The Crowfather smiles after Death as he goes, "I wouldn't have it any other way, Grim Reaper."

He laughs while staring at the image….

[X] …. of a One Horned, Purple monster standing above a destroyed town. (Claymore)
[] …. of a massive, white face that stands at the center of the Universe. (Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne)
[] …. of a giant, grey mass of metal, hovering over a burning planet. (Mass Effect)

Please hold off on voting until I explain some things in a following post.

Explanations

Welcome everyone to my new Quest!

Why did I do this? A few reasons:

1. I've been wanting to start a new Quest for a bit, and figured I might as well follow a bit of my Alucard Quest's format.

2. I notice there were very few Darksiders Quest here. So I figured, why not do my own?

3. Cause why not?

Now going forward, this will be like my Alucard Quest to an extent. No game mechanics to block anything, and ya'll are free to do as you wish.

However, there are a two key differences:

1. You actually have goals here. Specifically, you'll receive a Hit List with the names of the ones you're expected to kill in whatever Universe you choose. There will also be secondary and tertiary objectives to accomplish as you see fit.

2. You can actually get hurt here. Death can't die, but he can be damaged and banished for a bit if he gets hurt too much. Not only that, but he isn't tanky like his brother, War. I'd suggest having plans that take advantage of fast movement, and hit and run attacks. You're main weapons will be your Scythe's, but you can use anything you can find/buy/steal from the whichever world is chosen.

And that's about it.

Feel free to post!

Let's Bring Death!

Preparing for the Journey
Death arrived upon the island of Claymore with no fanfare whatsoever. He appeared underneath a canopy of trees in a remote part of one of the many forests that lined the island. There were no nearby villages and even the Organization's eyes can only reach so far. If there were any Yoma in the area, they wouldn't pay any attention to him. Death was such an alien force it was doubtful any who could sense Youki could find him without knowing what they were looking for. Even the animals, who would scatter and reveal his position upon his entrance, had already vacated the area. Perhaps they had sensed that Death was coming and chose to be elsewhere when it arrived.

Despair rears back with its front hooves in the air for but a moment. Then it comes down onto the earth with a soft thud. The pale horse shakes its head, causing its rider to pat its neck down with one hand. Death scans the area he is in taking notice of the large amounts of foliage that surrounds him. The leaves on the trees are thick enough to create a canopy through which few beams of sunlight penetrate. The floor of the clearing itself is mostly covered by thick piles of leaves that have yet to blown away by the wind.

Death frowns, wondering if the ones the Crowfather spoke for plan for him to find his target with nary but an image to go on. True, one could hardly forget the image of a creature like that, but even he would need some information to reference. Riding around with nothing but a vague idea of your goal was a surefire way to get him caught up in a completely irrelevant incident.

The Horseman lightly cracks the reigns on his steed, getting it to trot forward at a steady pace. No sense in standing around in a clearing waiting for correspondence. If the Crowfather's acquaintances are so powerful, they should be able to contact Death while he's moving.

To pass the time and ensure that he's ready for whatever comes ahead, Death starts going through his equipment and general inventory. The last time he was in the Forge Worlds, he had gathered many items, weapons, and armor. He didn't know what he would face going forward, so he would do well to know exactly what he was armed with.

Death held his right hand out in front of his face and swiped it to the left. The air in front of him distorted for a moment, before opening into a dark, empty expanse. Within this place, stuck in suspended animation, are the various objects that Death gained through his travels in the Forge Lands. Not everything is there, of course. On his left hip sits Redemption, his brother, Strife's, gun. How it came to the Forge Lands is still a mystery to Death, but he will not abandon a weapon of his kin in a forgotten land.

On his right hand sits his gauntlet that holds two of his more esoteric tools. The Death Grip which will allow him to pull himself towards objects and vice versa. No doubt it'll be useful in getting around unknown areas and fighting against whatever inhabits this place.

The second object is very unlikely to be used down the line. The Void/Phasewalker. A device acquired from Lostlight and enhanced by Lilith, it can easily make many things Death faces trivial. It can not only create two portals through which Death can travel, but it can even bring Death back to a certain point in time. Unfortunately, it requires specific magical circles to use, and it is doubtful the Horseman will find any of those here.

Then there is the Soul Splitter, which is almost a non-factor as of now. It splits Death's soul in two, creating an exact replica that can fight, climb, and do everything he can do. Along with that, comes a statue of Death's Reaper form that can be used to hold down pressure plates and otherwise. However, this ability is useless in combat, as Death can't control both part of his Soul at a time and if one is damaged the other feels too. Using it when it is not required will only hinder the Horseman.

His inventory itself he carries mostly one-use items and weapons that Death can use for himself. This space does have its limits, however, so Death has rid himself of items that were no longer of use. On top of five health potions and five wrath potions…

[] he carries many twin scythes to use for any occasion. He does not have secondary weapons, but many of his scythes have extra qualities. (No Secondary Weapons, Five Twin Scythes with Inferno, Ice, Lightning, Arcane, and Critical)

[] he has many secondary weapons ready to go. He is stuck with his base scythes, but those should be more than enough for combat. (Start with only Base Scythes, Five Secondary Weapons. Hammer, Claws, Buckler, Axe, and Tonfa)

[] he has a mix of both twin scythes and secondary weapons. It helps to be prepared for any occasion. (Three Twin Scythes, and Two Secondary Weapons. Fire, Ice, and Lightning, with Claws and Axe)

As for armor, Death only has one set for it is all he needs.

His Abyssal Armor.

This armor is his ultimate war gear, ritually prepared to allow him to face any and all foes. Very few can stand up to him when he wears this, as it amplifies all aspects of his abilities. His health, defense, speed, power, all are improved when the Horseman dons the Abyss. However, even it has a weakness. It greatly improves Death's physical defense but leaves him completely vulnerable to elemental attacks. It is even possible to defeat the Horseman in one shot if the attack is powerful enough. Death scowls at the memory of fighting Argul while wearing the armor, and how one icy blast from the giant's weapon was enough to defeat him.

Even so, Death still carries the Abyssal Armor and keeps it ready to be used for battle. While he doesn't know what to expect going forward, it could be a sound idea to wear the gear for now. Then again, perhaps he should keep it in reserve in case he really needs it.

[] Equip the Abyssal Armor. No need to leave anything up to chance. Any who face the Horseman, will fall.

[] Do not equip the Abyssal Armor. Death'll see how strong the opposition is first. Then he will decide whether or not to use the armor.

Lastly, besides his Harvester, there were his abilities. His journey to the Forge Lands had left him weak. He did not have many of the powers he would otherwise use. Fortunately, his mission to the Tree of Life gave him plenty of opportunities to regain his lost talents. However, even after everything he accomplished, he could only recover a fraction of his being. Something prevented him from regaining his full power. Thus, it forced him to focus on specific types of abilities to be effective in combat.

Choose Your Build:

[] Maximum Healing: Teleport Slash (Maxed) + Harvest (with Trauma) + Murder (with Bless)
[] Wrath of Death: Teleport Slash (with Unending Fury) + Exhume (with Enervation) + Frenzy
[] Reaper Madness: Harvest (with Red Harvest) + Aegis Guard (with Grave Defense and Enraged Guardian) + Murder (with Heralds of Death)
[] Write in….

Once he is sure of his current situation, Death waves his hand through the air again. His inventory space disappears as quickly as it came. Death gazes down the empty, brush ridden trail in front of him, until his attention is caught by a rolled-up piece of parchment on his saddle. Already certain who it is from, Death's suspicions are confirmed as he opens the brownish paper. The letters are in a bold, red color with an intricate seal on the side that he doesn't recognize. He looks down and reads what can only be described as his Hit List.

Main Objectives:
Priscilla: She is your PRIMARY TARGET. No matter what happens, no matter who gets in your way, no matter the circumstance, she. Must. Die. She is arguably,
the most powerful creature in the world right now. Priority Threat.

Riful of the West, Isley of the North, and Luciela of the South:
While they are not as powerful or dangerous as Priscilla, each one could become strong enough to threaten the Balance if left alone. Not to mention each would be happy to fill the power vacuum left once Priscilla is gone. They are NOT PRIORITY TARGETS but MUST BE DEALT WITH.

The Organization: They are the reason the above targets exist. Even in the face of that, they have not stopped their experiments that continuously create creatures like that. If left alone they will make something that will be as powerful and dangerous as Priscilla. This must not happen. They are a PRIORITY TARGET.

Secondary Objectives:

Claymores:
They were created by the Organization, but they are not puppets. Each is as unpredictable as a human. As such, you may deal with them on a case by case basis. Defeat the ones that get in your way, but don't go out of your way to kill them.

Lesser Yoma and Awakened Beings:: These beasts plague the island, constantly preying on the human population. While this is terrible, they are NOT targets that could threaten the Balance. As such, you are not required to go out of your way to kill them. However, you may choose to do so. Like the Claymores, deal with them on a case by case basis.

Tertiary Objectives:

Protect Claire and Raki:
Through their actions, these two will cause a major upset in the status quo of the island. If something were to happen to them before they can accomplish this, the Balance would be destroyed. However, there is currently nothing that indicates this will happen, so there is no reason to worry. However, if the situation is one where either of them will be in danger, PROTECT THEM AT ALL COST.

Death stares at the message for a few minutes, ensuring he has the instructions memorized. Then he places it into his inventory with a simple wave of his hand. He looks up at the crow on his right shoulder and speaks with a no-nonsense tone, "Point the way, Dust."

With a squawk, the crow flaps away from Death's shoulder into the air. It pauses just below the canopy, circles for a few seconds, and starts heading left. Death's eyes follow the crow as it goes deeper into the forest, before it stops on a far away branch just within the Horseman's sight. The bird won't move until Death catches up to it, and knows exactly where to go to accomplish his current objective. Meaning it is likely pointing towards one of the Main Objectives described on the parchment. Though heading straight for his targets would quickly ensure this quest's end, going into a fight blind will assuredly lead to a fight he isn't prepared for.

The other option is to choose a different heading and see if he can find some form of civilization. Though few would be willing to speak to them if they are mortals, he could at least observe them and learn important information that will prove useful later. However, his targets are not static objects. If he dallies too long, they might move away from their current position. Not to mention the attention he could gain that might warn his targets of his presence.

[] Follow Dusk. This task will be accomplished quickly and without delay.
[] Head in a different direction. Information gathering is one of the most important parts of assassination.
- [] Keep your current heading, forward.
- [] Head in the opposite direction of Dust, right.
- [] Turn around and keep going the way you came.
[] Write in….

Ok, so explanations:

First, the Builds:

Due to how the Skills in Darksiders 2 work, I decided to implement them like this: You guys will have any Skills/Abilities that the Build allows. I'll mark them down on a new Threadmark, and you can use them during battle. They will cost Wrath to use, and will have whatever extra qualities come from upgrading them or buying their separate upgrades. Its as simple as that.

You may either choose one of the Builds provided, or you can create your own. If you're going to do that, then please follow these instructions:

- You have 49 Points to spend on the Skills.
- It cost 1 point to unlock a Skill and 1 point to upgrade it.
- You may choose any Skill from the different trees you would like, just as long as you keep it within the point limit.
- Here is what each Skill does for reference: Necromancy, Harbinger
- Here are the Skill Tress side by side: Skill Tree

Second, Resource Tracking: There will be three resources tracked in this Quest: Wrath, Wrath Potions, and Healing Potions:
- Wrath is the resource that allows you to use your Skills. If you have less Wrath than what you're Skill cost, you can't use it. Wrath refills completely after every battle, but you can refill it during battle by using a potion.

- Wrath Potions refill Wrath. One is enough to completely refill your Wrath Bar.

- Health Potions heal you. One is enough to bring you back to full Health.

Health will not be tracked in numbers and be a more Narrative thing. You'll know how much how much damage you've taken and how much Death believes he can withstand. It'll be down to you guys to decide whether its a good idea to use a Potion or not. If he's about to die though, Death will automatically use a potion to stay alive.

There will be other ways to increase Wrath and Health as the Quest goes along, so you won't be completely screwed if you run out.

Lastly, Objectives: They're kind of self-explanatory, but to give more detail:

- The Main Objectives are the ones you must complete. In order to win and get back to his world, Death must accomplish all of his Main Objectives.

- Secondary Objectives: Things that will be important for the Quest and will affect Death's journey, but they are things that he can ignore or use to his advantage.

- Tertiary Objectives: Pretty much just extra shit. You don't have to do them, but they will be useful to you if you decide to accomplish/follow them.

And that's all I can think of. If there are any other Questions, feel free to ask.

Edit: And I just thought of something else: Reaper Form.

Reaper Form works much like it does in the game, being a manifestation of Death's True Form. In order to use it, you need Reaper Energy, which you gain from combat. I'll inform you about how much Reaper Energy you have before, during, and after every Combat related Update. Once it is full, you may vote to activate Reaper Form before or during any Combat related Update.

If you are activating Reaper Form, you will gain all of these effects for one Update:

- You are completely invincible.
- You can not run out of Wrath.
- You wield the Harvester.
- All of your attacks do Arcane damage, which almost no one has a defense against.
- You are faster, stronger, and gain complete resistance to everything.

So keep all these things in mind, if you are forming a plan that has you activate Reaper Form.

Edit Edit: Also, keep in mind the Hit List is merely the Objectives given to Death. As the Quest goes on, Death can make/gain his own Objective List that has nothing to do with the Hit List. So don't feel like you're forced to get all of the things on the Hit List done immediately, and everything has to serve completing them.

Death's Inventory
Current Inventory:

- 5 Health Potions
- 5 Wrath Potions

- Twin Fire Scythes
- Twin Ice Scythes
- Twin Lightning Scythes

- 1 Crushing Axe
- 1 Twin Life-Stealing Claws

- Abyssal Armor (Not Equipped)

- Redemption (Strife's Gun)

- Death Grip: Grappling Hook that can pull you towards things and pull things towards you

- Voidwalker: Let's you create portals in specific places, and go back in time.

- Soul Splitter: Split your Soul in two. Two Deaths appear and act as one, alongside an immovable statue of Death's true form. Not useful in combat, as when one is damaged so is the other.

Three Interesting Places
Death thought about his objectives and what was asked of him. He gazed down the path Dust had indicated while weighing his options. If he followed Dust now, he could be done with this whole ordeal immediately. He would find his target, kill it, then hunt down the rest. A simple solution to this seemingly simple situation.

However, Death was the leader of the Horseman of the Apocalypse for a reason. He was the oldest and wisest out of them all. And one thing that has come to him in all his years in Creation is that nothing is ever simple.

If he were to rush headlong into battle with no information about this world whatsoever, it would only prolong his stay here. And he couldn't afford that. His journey to the Tree had already cost him time that could've been spent assisting his brother directly. Though he doubts any on this world could truly harm him, he should not be cocky.

No, it would be better to explore the land. Find some knowledgeable locals, learn how things work in this land, and gauge the combat ability of all possible foes. It wouldn't be any different from his time in the Forge Lands, after all. He needed the Maker's assistance to open the way to the Tree when the Guardian was corrupted.

Death stared after Dust for a few seconds longer. Then, he grabbed the reigns of his horse and moved it in the opposite direction. With a sharp call, he spurred Despair onward through the desolate, grey tree line. His steed obeyed without question and thundered through the foliage with no trouble whatsoever. Even as the branches of the tall trees smacked into the Rider and his steed, they never slowed down. The strong, brown bark of the branches shattered on contact with Death's skin.

He heard the familiar cawing of Dust as the crow began to fly ahead of him. It trailed feathers behind it that disappeared before they hit the ground, much like the burning green hoofprints that Despair left in its wake.

With his purpose clear in his mind, Death stormed on into the foreign land.

Despair shook its head and pawed the rocky ground beneath it. Death rubbed his steed's neck as he gazed over the edge of the cliff he was on. From this vantage point, he could see the openings in the forest that marked areas of interest. Each of them was either a place where something unnatural seemed to have occurred, where manmade structures or pathways could be observed, or where something out of the ordinary had happened or is currently happening. From his position, Death identified three places that met at least one of the criteria above.

To his left was a small gathering of squarish buildings. A human village based on the way they were arranged. The houses looked reminiscent of the earlier Dark Ages on the earth Death knew. He could see smoke coming out of one of them, and small dots that indicated mortals going about their daily business. This would be the most obvious place to go to acquire information on the land, but he doubts that any would be willing to speak to him. He would need to find another way to obtain the knowledge he sought.

Straight in front of him was a large blue stream that flowed down from a mountain nearby. It would explain the village, as being by a river meant easy access to fresh water. What made it notable to Death was how the mortals acted strangely around it. There was a clear path straight to the main part of the river, but the dots would take roundabout paths to out of the way areas to get their water. It could mean that something that frightened the mortals was in the area. If that was the case, then it would allow Death to gain some insight into the creatures that inhabit this place.

And to his right was something that Death normally saw after he had left an area, crows flying overhead in a circle. Scavenger birds only ever did that when there was something dead nearby. If that was the case, then it was possible a battle or otherwise had happened just before Death got here. Not only would it give him a chance to see how dangerous the more hostile locals were, but it would serve as good practice to make sure his skills hadn't gotten rusty.

Looking towards Dust, Death saw the crow flying towards the river and cawing as it went. It stopped when it had gotten to the edge of Death's vision and began circling like its brethren nearby. Death looked far below him and spurred Despair….

[] Towards the village. He would obtain information first, then he could go gallivanting to a battle.
- [] A disguise should be enough to get him inside the town. From there, he can simply listen to the local gossip or find the leader of the village.
- [] He would wait until nightfall then sneak into the village leader's house. They are sure to have something that would tell him what he needed to know.
- [] He would wait until one of the villagers left, then accost them in the forest. From there, he could interrogate them very easily.
- [] There is no need to be stealthy. He will simply walk into the village, find the leader, and get the answers he needs.
- [] Write in….

[] Towards the river in front of him. Dust has pointed the way, meaning this will lead back into his main objective. No point in postponing it then.

[] Towards the circling crows. A battle is just what he needs to shake off any dust he got from teleporting here. And finding survivors could endear him to the village, making it easier to gain information.

First Sighting/Plan Time
Death knelt and picked up the small, broken piece of a knife. He held it up to the sun to watch the light glint off its edge. The handle laid off to the side, tossed next to an outlined portion of the dusty ground. The way the dirt has been moved and shifted indicated that a human body had once lain there. However, there was nothing else to indicate that was what it was. No blood, no bones, nothing. Death's experience is the only reason he was able to see the imprint the body left in the earth.

He scowled and looked to the sky as he got to his feet. He had come this way in the hopes of finding someone alive or at least evidence of a battle having taken place. Despair had been dismissed so that he wouldn't attract too much attention. Any present would've seen the flaming, pale horse from a mile away. But there were no signs of conflict outside of that one spot. Yet the crows still circled overhead, meaning that something was here. He started to observe the area closely, looking for any indication that he was missing something.

He was ready to consider this venture a waste of time when he heard a muffled scream. It came from deep within the forest, meaning that it reached the ears of none but him. The only place close enough to hear it was nearby the river and people were taking great pains to avoid that area. Whoever did this ensured they would not be discovered by anyone.

Death unconsciously flexes his fingers as he dashes into the trees towards the voice. Ironically, this entire situation works out perfectly for him. Having more people around would complicate matters. They would probably go out of their way to help their fellow villager thus getting in his way when the battle started. Not to mention someone who went to this length to hide their activities would bail at the first sign of an audience.

Death moved through the forest with incredible speed, his hands gripping thick branches to swing off and increase his momentum. He stepped on some tree trunks for but moments, before launching forward without missing a beat. He never once touched the ground nor hit any unforeseen branch in his path. His steps were completely silent as he approached where the scream had come from. As he got closer, he noticed the fallen leaves had been crushed in certain places. They were in patterns similar to footprints, but only two pairs were human. There were four others following behind them more akin to a beast or bird-like creature. He made a mental note of this as he continued onward.

The Horseman stopped and perched on the branch of a tree that was tall enough to poke its head out of the canopy around it. The ground below was grey and cold, indicating the coming winter months. Upon the ground was freshly splattered blood, pooling as more and more was added to it by the ones Death was after.

Below and across from him, Death saw what appeared to be the corpse of a grown man getting devoured by three monsters. Their brown skin was taut with no visible hair on any part of their bodies. They were bipedal and very humanlike in appearance with the primary differences being the long-clawed fingers, the sharp talon-like feet, and the mouths filled with sharp pointed teeth. They were ripping the flesh off the corpse with reckless abandon, nosily swallowing everything they could get in their maws.

Nearby two other humans were completely stock still, paralyzed with fear. Death couldn't make out details, but he could tell one was male and the other was female based on their breathing.

None of the figures below had noticed him yet, giving him some time to come up with a plan for how he would engage the creatures. He was in a new land and about to face unseen enemies after all. It might be prudent to discover exactly where he stands in terms of power and ability before rushing into anything. Then again, he wasn't sure how long that body would last. If they finished before he acted, they would go after the two humans trembling against the tree.

Death let himself slowly rise, as he prepared his plan of attack.

Death VS 3 Yoma 1 is Hiding

Death Status:

Health: Full
Wrath: 1000/1000
Main Weapon: Normal Twin Scythes
Secondary Weapon: None
Useful Items: Redemption, Death Grip
Health Potions: 5
Wrath Potions: 5

[] The plan is simple; Kill all of the monsters. Go down there and tear them apart.
[] Let's be a bit subtle here. You'll kill them alright, but it'll be from the trees and shadows. They won't even know you're there.
[] You won't even move from your perch. Just pull out Redemption and kill them from range. If they get wise, jump to another branch and fire. Use Death Grip if they try to run.
[] Write-in plan…

The "Fight" is Over
Death waited until the three monsters were finished with the corpse. There was no point in pining over someone who was already dead. When the creatures lifted themselves from the ground, nothing was left of the dead body. Just like back on the path, there was no trace that a human had ever died there. Only a small depression in the ground that looked vaguely human. When the creatures turned their attention to the two mortals cowering against the tree, Death made his move.

Within the split second the monsters' focus was elsewhere, Death quickly held out his right arm. A green, elongated version of his appendage shot out towards the rearmost creature. The ghostly arm gripped its target tightly and yanked it back towards the Horseman. Death jumped, unsheathing his scythes as the enemy attempted to turn and look at him. It was faster than Death had anticipated, turning its body halfway around to almost strike back. But the Horseman had gotten the jump on it.

There was nothing it could do as Death clicked the hilts of his two weapons together. With an upward slash, his prey was cleaved in two. As blood sprayed through the air, Death turned his gaze to the two monsters below. The viscera left over from his actions didn't hit the ground immediately. Here, high in the canopy, there were plenty of branches and leaves for guts and the like to get caught on.

So, by the time the first drop of blood splashed on the shoulder of the leftmost monster, his shadow was already over them.

The two tried to jump away, but only one made it away from the Reaper's unlinked, twin scythes. The other was neatly bisected just like the first one. Its body dropped to the ground with a thud as the other landed on a pile of leaves. Blood dripped from the stump where its right arm should be. It snarled at him, but he could see the surprise in its eyes at his appearance.

Death took a split second to examine the two human onlookers. Now that he had a clear view, he saw that his previous observations were correct. The victims were standing with their backs against the tree. One was a young man, his eyes darting between the monster and Death. He was kneeling and holding a little girl in his arms, hiding her face from the carnage. They both wore the type of clothing that was normal in the Dark Ages of the earth. The boy had on a white tunic and brown pants, while the girl was wearing a greenish dress that reaches her ankles. However, there was a small, dark red spot on the girl's shoulder.

The Horsman stopped his observation of the two and turned back to his foe. He took note of these creatures' abilities. So far, they had demonstrated enhanced feats of athleticism, intuition, and tenacity. If they were on the level of normal humans, they'd be dead already. Then again, it hasn't been too spectacular. Death has fought worse than them in all his years being one of the four. Before the monster could even think of running, Death's linked scythe comes spinning through the air. It cuts straight through the monster's middle before flying back to its master with blood trailing behind it. The two halves of the creature's torso fall to the ground with a wet thump.

He kept his back turned as footsteps started to approach him from behind. He heard a jovial, male voice speak, "That was amazing. Thank you for helping us. I was sure we were going to be eaten by those Yoma."

"Make no mistake," Death says, his scythe still held in his right hand, "I did not come to save you out of kindness. I have need of information that I believe your village can provide." He let his head tilt slightly backward to see the man out of the corner of his eye. He read the mortal's entire demeanor and health status within a minute.

The young man's left-hand starts to move forward, "Well, I'm sure the chief would be willing to help you out. You did sa—"

There is a sound of air being cut.

Death faces the man with his scythe held out with one hand while the mortal is stock still. The mortal looks down at his killer… then his face begins to morph. His skin darkens until it is the same color as the creatures from earlier. His hair, clothing, and everything else that made him look human disappears from his body.

The monster stammers out a question, "H-h-how did you know?"

"You made several mistakes," Death scoffs at the creature, "First, you weren't trembling in fear like that girl was. Your eyes never once wavered from the fight. Second, the girl has blood on her clothes, while yours are spotless. Third, there were four sets of footprints when I came here and only three, Yoma, I believe you called them.

The Horseman sheathes his scythes and walks past the already dead Yoma. He placed a hand on its shoulder before saying, "Lastly, you approached me with no fear in your heart and greeted me with joviality. If you were a human, you would've been just as scared of me as the Yoma."

With a soft push, the Yoma's head and torso fell to the floor. Its last words were, "Da-damn y-y-you. Wh-what e-ven—"

Death paid the words of the dead no heed as he walked towards the only survivor. She stared at the ground with empty, shell-shocked eyes that didn't see the world around her. Her hands were covered in the blood that covered her dress. Even her face had splashes of the liquid across her cheeks. Her skin was ashen and the auburn hair on her head was a tangled mess.

Death rolled his eyes while sighing in frustration. If he brought the girl to the village now, they would think he did something to her. Doubtful they'd trust the words of a strange monster, especially if all of these "Yoma" can shapeshift. Every small town or village would be suspicious of anything out of the ordinary. All in all, this was a partial failure. He won't be able to gain the goodwill of the village as he thought, but he did learn more about this world and his enemies. Valuable information to have if he was here as an assassin.

The girl shifted, hugging herself while trembling in the face of the tragedy. Death wondered if she even knew he was there.

[] Death shrugged and started to walk away. The girl was not his problem. Someone would find her sooner or later. He needed to think of his next immediate objective.

[] He had come this far. He wasn't going to let this end here. He'll at least get this girl talking again. After that, he should be able to drop her in front of the village and leave a note to gain some of their trust.
-[] What does he say to the child? (Write in…)

[] While he wasn't directly responsible, he knows how it feels to watch your family die in front of your eyes. He doesn't like it, but he'll stay with the girl for as long as she needs. After that though, he'll leave her to her own devices.

[] Write in….

Meeting the Stranger
Death stares at the human girl as she continues to shiver. He sighs and walks closer to her prone form. She is still coherent enough to feel fear, as she starts to back up in panic when the Horseman draws close. Death simply moves to her right side and sits down with his hands on his knees. The girl opens her eyes and nearly jumps out of her skin at the sight of the Horseman next to her.

Death stares at her with his same unreadable expression, "Do not worry, I shall remain with you until the shock and tears stop. After that, you will be on your own. Now, as you were." Death dismissively waves at the child while turning his gaze to the rest of the forest. Though he only saw four Yoma, there might still be some waiting in the shadows for him to drop his guard.

The girl stares at Death for some time, before pulling her legs to her chest again. Her hair falls around her neck as the sobbing starts. They wrack her form with each inhalation, filled to the brim with all her fear, hopelessness, and despair over the current events. The entire time, Death sits and listens. He may care very little for the girl, but he can understand her plights.

The loss of family is never gotten over easily. While the Four have never had a perfect relationship, they are the last of their kind. He would do anything to protect them. It was for that reason he was here in the first place. And this girl had just lost all her close relatives to a pack of flesh-eating monsters. That was not something you got over within a day. Coupled with the loss of innocence and the sudden realization of the finality of death, it was a miracle the child hadn't contemplated suicide.

The human and the Force of Nature sat there among the trees for some time. Leaves fell and piled up on the nearby grass only to be blown away by the wind. Death remained with the girl the whole time, even after her tears had dried up. Her face remained in her knees until she lifted her hazel eyes to stare at her rescuer.

"Finished?" the Horseman asked. When she nodded, he stood up, "Then my work here is done. I trust you know the way back to your village?" Another nod gives Death all the information he needs.

As he starts to walk away, the girl gets up and holds her hand out towards him, "Wait! Ah!" She falls to the ground and causes a pile of leaves to crunch and scatter. She slowly pushes herself up to look up at the Reaper.

Death glances back at the girl, "Do not presume that I will become your protector. I have business I must attend to."

"But-but-I…they won't…" she goes quiet, unable to finish her sentence. Instead, her sobbing starts up again, with balled up hands moving up to dry her eyes. Death keeps staring at her for a bit longer, before walking over to her side and picking her up by the arm.

He gently sets her back on her feet. At her confused look, he states, "I said I would remain with you until your shock and tears have stopped. Your shock has gone, but your tears still flow. So, I will stay with you." With that, the Horseman starts to make his way back towards the village. The girl stares after him for a short time, before her footsteps fall in line with his. Her arms wrap around her shoulders as she hugs herself in his wake.

As Death walks, he looks back at the child following him. He doesn't plan to keep her with him. Not only does he have little patience for those who can't keep up with him, but she would become a mighty hindrance during his later battles. He'll drop her off at the village, see what information he could gather, and continue his way. Until then, he might be able to discover something about this world from her. He was doubtful that it would—

The Horseman stopped in his tracks, causing the child to run into his right leg. She hit the ground quickly and looked up at him with confusion. That soon turned to fear as she concluded that it had to be more Yoma. She quickly grabbed onto Death's leg, shaking in fear.

Death looked towards a single tree that didn't seem much different from the rest. However, the thing Death noticed was the long, human shadow extending from the tree's.

Swiftly, his right arm shot out with the green, ethereal hand of Death's Grip following soon after. It grabbed up the leaves from the ground near the tree and brought them to the Horseman within the span of a second. Death called out to the hiding fool, "Show yourself! Else I'll drag you out by your neck!"

Silence reigned for a few moments before a cloaked figure stepped from behind the trunk of the tree. His entire body was covered in a long, brown cloak that made him blend in with the environment. He had done a good job of hiding himself up till now. However, Death was no fool and he had dealt with creatures harder to discover than this man.

The human slowly stepped out into the light but kept his face hidden beneath his hood. He spoke in a gravelly, light voice, "Well now. We never expected something such as yourself to appear."

"Spare me your empty conversation," the Horseman took out one of his scythes, "tell me what you want."

The human held his hands above his head, "Very well. I am here with a proposition of sorts. If you'll allow me to take the girl off your hands, I'll gladly inform you about anything you could possibly need answering. It is obvious that you are not from around here and wandering blindly would do you no good. And you have no reason to keep the girl anyway. So, what do you say?"

Death does not trust this man as far as he could throw him, but he could not doubt what he said. He was planning to send this child to her village and he was mainly looking for information. He stood to benefit most from this deal.

However, he knew what making a deal that sounded too good to be true was like.

He was the master of such things, after all.

[] He took the deal anyway. Though Death didn't trust the man, he would not pass up this reasonable deal. (You may pick multiple questions)
-[] Where am I?
-[] Who are you?
-[] How long have you been there?
-[] Other? Write in...

[] He refused it outright. He didn't trust anything about it and would not let himself be tricked.

[] He would simply take the man hostage and force him to answer his questions. There's very little this human could do to one such as him.

Meeting The Stranger Part 2
Death took the stranger's measure within a moment. The man was no fighter, that was clear. He couldn't see the bulge of a hidden weapon anywhere on his person. His hood hid any expression he could give, so the Reaper couldn't get a read on his emotions that way. Though he could tell the stranger was nervous. Who wouldn't be after watching one of the Horsemen kill four "Yoma", on his own? After some time, Death did consider simply taking the man hostage. It wouldn't be difficult. He was a mortal. Even if he was armed, nothing he had could hurt Death in any way that mattered. He wouldn't even have to move from his current position. A single Death's Grip would be enough to grab and pull the man close enough for Death to deal with. Then he could get all the information he wanted.

However, then the man might decide to stay silent out of fear or obligation. Some mortals tended to become enraged when they were forced into less-than-ideal positions. He hummed to himself as he considered the man's proposal. An increase in pressure on his leg reminded him of the mortal girl holding onto him...which gave him an idea.

"Why?" Death asked without looking at the stranger.

He didn't physically react to Death's question, but his voice gave away his unease, "Why what?"

"Why do you wish to take the girl? What compels you to take custody of a random girl?" Death waved a hand through the air as he spoke.

"Why, I'm simply trying to do something out of the kindness of my heart. Wouldn't any decent human being wish to help a young child that just lost her family to predations of evil beasts?" he said this easily, but that just made Death more suspicious.

"If that is the case, then why are you offering something in return for her? Someone simply looking to do a good deed wouldn't need to offer anything unless asked, correct?" Death wasn't entirely sure if that was true, but that was fine. The purpose of his answer was more to catch the man off guard, possibly make him reveal his true reason for wanting the girl. After all, if he was simply looking to take care of the girl then he would've said so when he was revealed.

Death catches the man's flinch despite the stranger's best efforts to hide it. He remained silent for a time as he reassessed the Horseman in front of him. His posture became a bit stiffer as he continued, "A shrewd one, aren't you? Then, what if I told you I'd be able to give the girl a chance to get revenge on the ones that killed her family?"

Death felt the girl's grip on his leg lessens at the stranger's words. Some of the tension left her as she gave the man her full attention. Death narrowed his eyes, "Perhaps you should remove that hood of yours. It's interfering with your eyesight."

Death tapped the side of his head to emphasize. The man chuckled, "I can assure you I can see just fine like this."

"Then you should know that I killed the ones you speak of already."

"Those, yes. But there are more. Many, many more. All across his land Yoma prey on unsuspecting humans. Doing the exact same thing that they did to this girl and to others just like her. And I can offer her the power to stop them."

While he couldn't see the man's lips from his position, Death could tell the man was grinning. The stranger's head tilted down to regard the girl, "She certainly seems interested."

Looking down, Death saw that the girl had only one hand on his leg now. The other had let go when she started taking steps toward the stranger. She was only an arm's length away from the Horseman, head darting from the stranger to Death and back again. She frowned while licking her lips as her eyes narrowed in thought. Then she turned to the stranger, "W-Will you...will you make me a Clay...more?"

Death gave the stranger his full attention. The man didn't seem to notice the Horseman's gaze, as he simply shrugged, "I suppose so. Interested?"

Death didn't take his eyes off the man even as the girl turned her gaze back to him. Without looking at her, he spoke, "If you wish to follow him, do so. As I stated, I will not be your new guardian. Your choices are your own."

Despite what he said, Death was honestly considering murdering the stranger before he could get away. He had burned what his "Hit List" had said into memory and had already put together what was happening. The man in front of him was from the Organization. One of his "Priority Targets". And he was planning to take this girl to make her into a Claymore, a "Secondary Target". That changed things quite a bit.

The girl was already starting to let go of his leg. But Death still had a chance to act. He chose to...

[] Kill the man. He was one of his targets. There was no need to think about this.
- [] He'd explain why he did that to the girl afterwards. If only to stop her from crying.
- [] He didn't have to explain himself to the girl afterwards. Whatever she thought didn't matter to him.
- [] Write in...

[] Capture the man. He had vital information that Death could use. Though he might need to use some...less than savory methods to get what he wanted. (3 Question Limit)
- [] Get him to tell Death where they're main base is.
- [] Get him to disclose the location of any nearby Claymores.
- [] Get him to disclose the location of any nearby Yoma.
- [] Write in...

[] Let the man go. He still had too little information. He couldn't afford to act rashly now.
- [] Death keeps the girl with him. If the man is going to turn her into one of these "Claymores", then she'll probably get in Death's way later on. He can't let that happen.
- [] Death lets the girl go with the man. Whether she becomes one of these "Claymores" or not is of no concern to him. If she gets in his way, then he'll strike her down.

[] Write in...

...Uh....hi.

OK. OK. I know. I know.

Put simply, I've been wanting to go back to one of my older Quests for a while now. Originally, it was going to be my Primarch Quest (Between Man and Monster)...but I literally blanked on it. Like I tried to sit down and write the next update and my mind just...blanked. No ideas. No possible starts. Nothing.

However, I recently read through the Claymore Manga again and started thinking of trying to do a Claymore Quest. Then someone started liking my posts here and I was reminded of this Quest. I read through what I had already wrote and....well...put this to paper.

So...yeah.

For anyone who's willing to continue a 4+ Year old Quest with me, thank you.
