Intro and Character Creation

Hi!!! This is my first time running a quest, so feel free to point out anywhere I mess or offer me pointers, especially when it comes to any mechanics. This is also crossposted from Spacebattles, with the votes just being combined from the two, because I don't think I could handle the logistics of essentially running two separate quests. Sorry.

This quest is inspired by the ROYL quest by Leingod, which inspired me to make my own quest starring an OC RWBY team.

I have done my best not to make them Mary Sues, but if you catch any slips, let me know immediately. There are several references in the character names and design, but I promise that they are different characters, I'm just terrible at coming up with names and designs, so see if you can guess what they were, some are more obvious than others.

Anyway, let's begin, I present to you, Team SNST!!!

Insert cool Monty Oum quote here.
--
Who are you?
Are you friend or foe. Did you have a sad life, a happy one, why have you come to this place?
Choose Your Character to Begin With

[x] The Fiery Orange "S"

-You are a leader for sure, and you aren't afraid to let people know. You tend to end up in the big sister role and you deeply care about your team. You are seriously feisty and hard-core Rock N' Roll is your jam.

"It's not true rock until it's loud enough that you can feel your teeth chattering and your blood pumping from adrenaline!!"

Your crest is a burning sun that is half red and half yellow with both colors swirling in the center.

[x] The Mischievous Blue "N"

-You are a fun-loving prankster who lives for completely surprising people. You tend to come off as the little sister of the group due to your height, much to your annoyance.

"You say I'm the animal, but I'm not the one chasing a cute, defenseless, girl around while wearing nothing but chicken feathers!!"

Your crest is a simple indigo shield with a crescent moon on it.

[x] The Vivacious Yellow "S"

-You are fashionable to the extreme and love being the center of attention. Some people might say that you don't belong at Beacon because of your past, but you're here to prove them wrong.

"I didn't come here to be a fashion model, I came here to kick ass take names, and look good while doing it wherever I can."

Your crest is an outline of a star with five beams of golden light converging in the middle.

[x] The Shy Violet "T"

-You are shy and have issues connecting with people, but if someone brings up your obsessions, nothing in the world can get you to stop.

"Really, writing is so much fun!!! You get to create characters and friends, and worlds, it's like opening a portal to another dimension. You should try it!"

Your crest is made of veins of lavender smoke curling into a heart.

A/N additional notes, yes the genders of the characters are decided for you, this was originally going to be a straight fanfic, before I decided it would work better as a quest and I didn't want to figure out how to rework the characters. At a later point I will probably post the unused character introductions, if you want to see them.
Finally, don't think that this is forever locked, there will be several times when there will be POV shifts.
I hope you enjoy this!!!

I don't mean to be weird, and I'm a total noob when it comes to this, so I'm not trying to be offensive, but just in case it came off this way, there aren't any more treadmarks for a whilee. I'm not trying to be rude, it just was a thing that you guys should maybe know just in case.

So are you trying to run two separate continuities for this quest like the original ROYL or just crossposting it like the reboot?

So are you trying to run two separate continuities for this quest like the original ROYL or just crossposting it like the reboot?

Just straight up crossposting it. This is the first quest I've ever run and I don't want to confuse myself with the diverging paths anymore than necessary, plus I don't know if I would have time to essentially run two quests while school is kicking my ass.

[x] The Shy Violet T

(I don't get why the two people who've voted for this don't have the quotation marks around T, but I guess I'll do that too?)

It is a little weird, but it doesn't matter in the long run. I mean, as long as I can tell who you're trying to vote for I'll still count your vote regardless.

Now, if a bunch of people were voting for, say [x] The Mischievous Violet "S" or something, then we would have a problem as I would have no clue who people were trying to vote for.

Thank you to everyone who is participating in this quest, it really means a lot to me!

The current vote tallies are,
[x] The Fiery Orange "S"-4
[x] The Mischievous Blue "N"-1
[x] The Vivacious Yellow "S"-5
[x] The Shy Violet "T"-6

All in all, it's pretty close right now. I'll probably close the vote by Tuesday at the latest, so if you guys haven't voted yet you should probably vote soon.

Chapter 1: Twyla Lucen
Here we are, the final vote tally.
[x] The Fiery Orange "S"-4
[x] The Mischievous Blue "N"-1
[x] The Vivacious Yellow "S"-6
[x] The Shy Violet "T"-8
It was pretty close, but our main POV character is officially:
[x] The Shy Violet "T"
I hope you'll enjoy her, her POV is honestly one of the most fun to write.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You are Twyla Lucen from the verdant kingdom of Vale.

You desperately flip to the next page of your book as it hits the climax, making you even more curious about how it's going to end.

You are unfortunately distracted when you see group of people that have just sauntered up next to you and seem to impose their presence onto you.

You don't know if you should talk to them, on one hand you really want to get some practice in on talking to new people before the school year really begins, but on the other hand you really like your book, and what if they don't want to be interrupted by some weird girl and what if they're just too polite to exclude you but all conversation freezes up and you're all left standing their awkwardly, or, or, what if they do try to include you but are internally making fun of you and are just waiting to save up all your lame comments to laugh at with their friends when you're not around!?

Or what if you try to join them and they start laughing in your face then and there and then everyone else on the airship starts laughing at you too for being stupid enough to attempt to talk to them.

They seem to notice your staring and look your way, so you quickly duck your face back into your book, as you blush red as a tomato with embarrassment, you begin to rub your weapon to get your nerves under control. Rubbing your weapon always helps you calm down, its name is

[x] Will O' The Wisp: An old-fashioned lantern that can be used as a flame thrower and can turn into a mace, although it doesn't have a gun, and the flamethrower effect's usefulness depends greatly on the environment in which it is used, you enjoy the feeling of using your weapon, as everything else fades away.

[x] Morningstar: A giant compound bow that can be folded into a gun and has blades on the limbs, even in bow form it fires dust rounds rather than arrows. While it's hefty and takes a lot of practice to use in close combat you love the weapon for the range and the confidence you feel when you use it.

[x] Write in

After you've rubbed it for a minute you can slowly feel you're nerves begin to steady. However, you are interrupted when a holographic lady appears in place of the news channel that you were tuning out and draws all the students' attention to her. She is blonde with a very prim and proper feeling. You can't help but think if life was a story, she'd be the sexy teacher type, stern on the outside but soft on the inside, the kind that wants to give their students the best through tough love.

She makes a speech about how all the new students are the future and how Beacon was built to make sure you succeed. You try to pay close attention, but part of you can't help but critique the speech on how cliché it is. You quickly shush that part of yourself though, because it's rude to think that about a teacher, particularly one who is as respected a huntress as Glynda Goodwitch is.

As she ends her speech you look out the window as you wistfully put your bookmark into the book, you clearly aren't going to finish it before you get to Beacon.

You can't help but nervously trace the tattoos on your legs, violet tendrils of smoke that slowly creep up your calves that are simultaneously a reminder and a promise for the future, you are starting a whole new life here at the academy and you've got to be ready.

As the airship lands and your scramble for your possessions as you prepare to exit, you can't help but think,

[x] It's here, just keep calm and try not to make eye contact with anyone and you'll be fine, right?

[x] Oh my god, we're going to be put in teams what if I'm stuck with a bunch of horrible people, what if they're all bullies or don't like the way I dress!

[x] I wonder how many other students here like to read, maybe we could make a book club, I love book clubs!!! We could chat and nerd out and I wouldn't have to be here alone!!!

[x] No!!! I think I left the oven on, my house is totally going to burn down, and the energy bill will be super high and…

Thoughts? Feelings? Comments?
Tell me if the formatting is weird it changed a bit when I copied this over from my word document, I tried to fix it but I might have missed a few spots.

Also, see if you can guess Twyla's character inspiration, hers is one of the hardest to guess. The one hint I will give for all the characters is that they are from shows with doll lines, each one different. The one exception to this is "N" because she is actually based on a very popular fan character from the same franchise as the Fiery "S" and when I was creating the team I had this moment where I forgot she wasn't actually canon.

Remember, these character inspirations are mostly for appearances and names, there personalities are not the same, nor are they necessarily even close to the same.

I hope you enjoyed the first real chapter of Team SNST and thank you all for your support!!!!!!!!!!

I recognize that weapon from Soul Eater!

This was so cute!!!,
No need to worry, you're formatting was just fine.

Thoughts.

I can very much relate to this section when it comes to social interaction, like do people want to come talk to them, am I being awkward if I don't. I feel like she and Ruby are definitely going to bond over their social awkwardness.

She is blonde with a very prim and proper feeling. You can't help but think if life was a story, she'd be the sexy teacher type, stern on the outside but soft on the inside, the kind that wants to give their students the best through tough love.

Okay YES!!! A nerd making meta observations of all the characters!!! Sign me up!!! Please keep this sort of commentary up this so funny to me!!

Oooooh!!! A mystery. This is nice, always good to have a bit of a mysterious backstory in things like these. Maybe her backstory is like, her friend dragged her to the tattoo parlor and made her get big ass tattoos on her legs and the reminder and the promise is to never be friends with people like that again and to search for magic tattoo removal.

Also it was mentioned that she's from vale, did she go to Signal with Yang and Ruby then, was she one of the shadow people Yang ditched Ruby with in volume one? Tell me your secrets story!!!

Choices huh?
[x] I wonder how many other students here like to read, maybe we could make a book club, I love book clubs!!! We could chat and nerd out and I wouldn't have to be here alone!!!

Let's go with the upbeat answer that simultaneously shows off how much of a book nerd we are and hints at our angsty loneliness. Also I'm just imagining her and Blake meeting and the nerdiness that would ensue.

[x] Morningstar: A giant compound bow that can be folded into a gun and has blades on the limbs, even in bow form it fires dust rounds rather than arrows. While it's hefty and takes a lot of practice to use in close combat you love the weapon for the range and the confidence you feel when you use it.

I like this choice a bit better for the character building that's revealed in this answer, plus a range specialist is useful and bows are super underrepresented in RWBY. Only canon character I can think of who uses one is Cinder, and, well you know.
Also, this seems very similar to the weapon of Mark Zhang's Viridian trailer which I am in love with.

Also while I love the Kim and Jaqueline reference in the other weapon, it seems a bit limited with the ranged option only being able tobe used in certain conditions.

I'm pretty sure I know who you're referencing, but I also have close proximity to an eight year old so, I feel like I have a bit of an advantage. I'll wait a few days to see if anyone else knows it.

Overall, this was a great first chapter and I look forwards to seeing more of this quest and getting to know the other members of this team and seeing their interactions with the main eight.

Also while I love the Kim and Jaqueline reference in the other weapon, it seems a bit limited with the ranged option only being able tobe used in certain conditions.
Eh, they go both ways. The lantern is a badass close to mid range weapon, in exchange its not going to be very good at long range. The compound bow is amazing at long and mid range, but if they get in close and STAY close you're basically stuck doing pistol whipping.

Does Twyla enjoy burning things?

Well, if she didn't before, she does now!

We need to see if we can improved the flamethrower part, make it a Swiss army blowtorch, flamethrower, flare, directed explosion, blowtorch, etc

[x] I wonder how many other students here like to read, maybe we could make a book club, I love book clubs!!! We could chat and nerd out and I wouldn't have to be here alone!!!

Bit of analysis post on the weapons:
-Lantern is the melee primary weapon with the ranged option mainly suited for augmenting the melee. Its something like Nora's fighting style, good in the press, reasonably good at mid-range and mob clearing but you won't be doing much sniping unless the stars align. Great for sweeping Grimm mobs and Huntsmen are going to see their Aura sizzle away with DoT, but fire isn't usually a very good weapon against high mass armored opponents like giant Grimm. Assuming the Soul Eater source inspiration holds out, using it for rocket propulsion may be a possible upgrade once we're skilled enough not to faceplant fatally.

-Bow is the ranged primary weapon, with the melee option being specifically awkward due to its bulk. It'd be likely to dominate long ranged fights, at least while ammo lasts. Great support weapon, but its vulnerable to being rushed down by abnormally tough or fast opponent. Not so big a problem with most mook Grimm to be sure(and boss Grimm are big targets for Dust Arrows), its more vulnerable to Huntsmen.

[x] I wonder how many other students here like to read, maybe we could make a book club, I love book clubs!!! We could chat and nerd out and I wouldn't have to be here alone!!!

And we shall call it: 'Plan Bookish Burner.'

... I'll just see myself out

Your formatting is fine, but...

...there are lots of typos.

Just for the mental image of enjoying the feeling of using a flamethrower as everything else melts fades away.
