Tam Lin's Monsterworld

It will hopefully also prevent them from killing each other, if only so that they won't have to smell the consequences.
Sounds like a plan. Stinky Roundman may well take the place of it's predecessor. Hope, Simple Roundmans not going to like the smell and try to kill new branch of evolution to warpaint their bodies with smelly blood. Even then - new branch more united and will try not to kill each other...

The more I think, the crazier futures appear before my eyes.

[X] [Roundman] Start excrete a very smelly and sticky mucus after they die that will stick to whatever ate them for days. They also developed a keen sense of smell to detect this smell from a great distance, so that they know to stay clear of the area.

[X] [Roundman] Develop the ability to digest earth and dig for more territory.
[X] [Seedling] Can grow very sweet and covered in soft peel, like unripe chestnut, orange fruit with small seeds. Very good at spread further away through the digestive system, due to resistant seeds and subtle laxative effect they cause when get into the intestines. Fruits have very weak narcotic and additive effect for Roundmen, which become stronger and stronger during fruit decay. And noticeably more toxic for other creatures.
[X] Some roundmen become colorful and gain poisonous blood to discourage predators. The more colorful the roundman the more poisonous they are.

    [X] [Roundmen] Develop Seedling farming.

Some Roundmen are able to excrete a stinky fluid when eaten. These Roundmen become known as Nosemen and have developed noses that can detect this stinky fluid, allowing them to smell predators from a mile away. While this doesn't have any immediate benefits for the Noseman that has been eaten, it incentivizes them to live in small families unlike the territorial Roundmen.

Because Roundmen aren't able to smell the fluid, they come into competition with the Nosemen and because Nosemen live in families, they are able to outcompete the solitary Roundmen.

Krebs and Krows have learned to avoid the Nosemen in favor of targeting the solitary Roundmen, making the Roundmen extinct in 3 turns.

Additionally, because Roundmen are starting to be short in supply, Krebs and Krows are also starting to develop territorial behaviors.

Select one monster to evolve
>Roundman (Will become extinct in 3 turns)
>Noseman
>Kreb
>Rokreb
>Krow
>Seedling
>Stone Seedling
>Seadling

[X] [Roundman] The Roundmen develop a linked-up hivemind to combat threats to the race as a whole

I thought Krows were already extremely territorial.

Edit:
[X] [Roundman] The Roundmen develop a linked-up hivemind to combat threats to the race as a whole

This feels a bit OP to me. With the only function being that it allows them to live in bigger units.

Double Edit: I didn't see the post below me before editing, oh well.

well, the main problem as I see it is that the Roundmen are too territorial to actually fight off other species picking away at them. If you recall, the update in which we were first notified of the Roundmen's incoming extinction mentioned that they had fierce infighting, which left them more vulnerable to other species

edit: nvm, it was increasing Krow and Kreb populations.

anyways, i think the best way to save the roundmen is to build them as the archetypical hive-type species. very r-selected reproduction, and an overarching incentive for cooperation

It was both the infighting and the growing predator populations, not just one or the other. Just to be clear

well in that case i see a few solutions for us here:

create a new species to prey on the krows and krebs

increase the ability of roundmen to fight back against krows and krebs

create a greater diversity of prey for krows and krebs so they don't focus too much on roundmen and stinkmen

create unity among roundmen so there is much less infighting

scale up roundmen population to match the krow and kreb population

disincentivize krows and krebs from eating roundmen (poison or barbs or something)

give the roundmen abilities to fight back (maybe they can shape the stone seedlings into tools?)

[X] [Roundman] Develop the ability to digest earth and dig for more territory.
Its not specifically a territory issue, its an infighting issue. (as well as increasing predator populations). yes, the cause of the infighting is the territoriality, but an increase in territory is treating the symptoms instead of rooting out the cause. if we incentivize them to cooperate there is no need for increased territory, but what do we do if roundmen population scales up along with the increased territory and infighting begins again?

[X] Krow: Roundmen are growing into short supply, so start trying to protect and farm them(while also forcefully gathering and grouping them), more heavily predating Krebs to make up for it.

If you want R-selection, just exchange size for higher breeding rates. The Krows and Krebs will have to put more effort into killing enough to survive, but there will be more than enough to go around.

I think that this will be easier for them with less territorial creatures like StoneKrebs. Unless they can of course adapt their mysterious ways to Pacify the Roundmen.

You know what I'll just vote for this. It will be interesting, even if I don't expect it to work outright and forces the Krows to the coast where seedlings are plentifull.

I'm not sure I understood everything, but yeah, why not.
Make love, not war, my dear Roundmen!

[X] [Roundman] Increase sex drive and breeding period.

And I;m changing my vote, because I'm feeling more sure that this will work.
