In the void between worlds, in the time between consciousness and dreams, the legacies of the five beasts scatter in shame. Consumed by the teachings of their Master, those who were once siblings in all but blood turned on each other in distrust. What has been said many a time, across many a world holds true:

"When banded together, unified by a common enemy, they are a noticeable threat. But divide them, place doubt into their minds, and any semblance of power they once had will wash away."

But then, as is always the case:

"Perhaps… Victory doesn't require Armies, Monuments or Great Philosophies, but merely a Smaller, More Honest Soul."

Those with powerful abilities, years of training and experience would fall to the exact same trappings as their predecessors. If disaster was to be averted, this could not be allowed to pass.

And so, the scattered beasts sought out simpler souls to wield their power and blind The Devil's Eye.

Those who were once their brother and father had turned on them, tearing down the world order they once embodied and shattering their family, all for the sake of a destiny the father saw.

But destiny and what the gods ordain… doesn't have to come to pass.

Across the worlds there are millions upon billions of Hearts and Souls who strive against what should be, some succeed, some fail, yet the point remains;

Nothing is set in stone.

Of all the potential candidates it came down to these five. They were young, inexperienced and each with their own insecurities yet each held within themselves a solid core of conviction:

A young girl with a mirrored gaze, born and raised by fallen legends. Latching onto the tales uttered to her in her youth, she runs ever onwards to drive back the encroaching and immortal Darkness. The Power she holds is blinding to behold.

A girl who bathes in the glory of the sun. Abandoned by one wife and the second dying soon after would leave any man broken, yet with two daughters, it fell to the eldest to both care for the family and seek answers. The Power she holds shall burn away the shadows.

A girl without a past. Running the streets of a small village from birth is tough. When that village is later erased by Darkness, all hope seems lost. Yet so long as someone walks besides her, she can shake the earth. The Power she holds will shift the world itself.

A boy who wanders the earth. Torn from his once happy life at a young age by the forces of Darkness, many would break and shatter in such a crucible, yet he found comfort from the void within and the life without. The Power he holds is as silent as the void.

A young boy destined to be eroded by the past. A simple farm boy is all he is right now, but when the Emerald Wizard falls again, he will assume the cursed mantle and be crushed once again by the sins of the Golden God. The Power he holds is as sure and steady as the march of time itself.

The choice made, one of the legacies pulled the slumbering soul into the void.

But which one did so?

The Unicorn. Leader of the Five and the driving force of all the group's actions. Although they are the most respected of the lot, that is a double edged sword. Favours the soul crushed by time.

The Snake. Impartial spy and judge of the group, charged with the most distasteful of roles, they drowned in the word of the law, entirely forgetting the spirit. Favours the soul who walks in silence.

The Bear. Arguably the most important member as the lynchpin, it was nonetheless their call for trust that finally shattered the group. Favours the soul who will move the world.

The Leopard. Charged with solving the last puzzle left by their Master, their constant questioning drove the others away. Favours the soul who shines like the sun.

The Fox. Tasked with preparing the next generation, they lost touch with their siblings and thus couldn't head off the brewing disaster. Favours the soul who sees the light.

GM Notes: Ok, let's try this again. Last time RL got hectic and my love for Kingdom Hearts kind of went into hibernation, but with a calmer schedule and Kingdom Hearts III reinvigorating my love for the franchise (even if not for the game itself.) I want to try again.

Obviously this contains spoilers for said game, even if I'm tossing out major swaths of it. So if you haven't finished it yet, this probably isn't the quest for you.

Now, some notes and hints;

This takes place the day after Ruby stopped Roman's Dust Shop robbery and just after KHII.

Volume 6 is canon for this quest, although this shouldn't be spoilers by now, be wary.

My RPs come before this quest, but I have quite a bit of time between posts, so don't worry.

The "Legacies" have other synergies, so even though I revealed one for each, feel free to experiment and theorise, who knows what great powers are hidden by which combos?

This quest relies on the Union X lore, while I will explain things for those who need it, if you don't know the bare basics, this whole quest will go over your head.

Each character will have two non-playable RWBY characters attached to them as their Donald and Goofy; one a positive reflection of their story, one negative, depending on which one your character interacts with more, it affects the whole party's character development.

As an addendum to this; each character will influence your character in both good and bad ways, regardless of whether they're the positive or negative reflection, in order to achieve this, certain characters are being rewritten completely. Coughcoughadamtauruscoughcough

Pardon me.

[x] Ruby Rose
[x] Vulpeus

I picked my favorite character among the five, while among the Foretellers' legacies, I gravitate towards the one that synergizes with Ruby.

Momma Bear is the Burning Heart of her family, both born and found, and extends trust and forgiveness even to those who hurt her most, as long as they ask for it.

[X] Ruby Rose
[X] Vulpeus
Vulpaeus seems to be the most about connecting with others and thats kind of Rubys shtick. Plus Ava(If iremember right) was the most humane and kind of them all
While yes, Ava is the most humane and sympathic one, It was actually Aced's job to keep everyone together. It was only because the MoM told the others to never work together that he failed.

Still if we want Ruby to be a Dandelion Best bet is Avas guild and work well for best chance of exposure

[X]Anguis

I actively want to avoid whatever combo the spirit we choose favors, so I'm not taking Vulpeus, and won't change my mind there. The reason I'm taking Anguis is that I can't see Ruby falling into the trap of following the rules over doing the right thing.

Any reason you want to avoid the the named synergy?
Because it feels likely that if the legacies we know failed get to partner with the host they feel the most sympathy towards, it would be far too easy to fall into the same failure state they did in kingdom hearts whatever.

Note:I have not actually played any of the games, and don't really know the details of the stories beyond the first game and chain of memories. Literally the only place I've heard of these 'legacies' are the two instances of this quest.

Ah, people seem to be mistaken;

These are not the Foretellers themselves choosing their successors, but their powers finding more worthy successors. Think how Sora got his Keyblade from Riku.

But there is a bit of a cannon conflict there
Their still All Alive
Edit: Nevermind that really wasnt an issue for Riku and Soras situation

Their are a shit ton of playthroughs and a complete lore series it would make the fanfic SO much more rewarding same with the quests
