Sufficient Velocity plays Pokemon Platinum Version!

Greetings and Welcome to the world of Pokemon!

My name is Rowan, Pokemon Professor of the Sinnoh Region. For years I've studied the miraculous creatures known as Pokemon, how they live, how they interact, and how they change. My personal field is Pokemon Evolution, and what it means for a Pokemon to involve. As a whole, nobody truly knows where and how Pokemon came to be, only that they were, are and will be indispensable to us. Whether as guardians, workers, or even just pets for comfort, Pokemon are truly a wonderful part of our lives.

Ah, but I am getting ahead of myself! After all, I know nothing about you! Tell me, who are you?

A boy?

Or a Girl?

A whole new Pokemon adventure is about to unfold! And I suspect that you will go far in achieving it. However, one must remember that not every adventure is the same! Now, perhaps you might wish to unveil what exact adventure you wish to embark upon?

[] Set in Stone: The familiar one to see, nothing has truly changed about the characters. They will be as they always have been.
[] Shifting like the Sand: Perhaps there are some minor changes in characters, such as personalities or motivations, but they will stay true to their origins.
[] Washed away in the river: Nothing is the same. Character's pasts can and will be washed away, and settle in a way nearly unrecognizable to before.

Now, embark upon you grand journey, and fulfill your desires to your heart's content!

Welcome to Sufficient Velocity plays Pokemon ??? Version, a quest where you take up the mantle of the Sinnoh Protagonist, and live through the Journey of Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum version! This Quest is heavily inspired by Sufficient Velocity plays Pokemon, a quest created ~ 1 1/2 years ago by a user by the name of SVS, where you had gone and played through the Kanto region. However, in the name of being original and liking Gen 4 more than Gen 2, I'm using the Sinnoh Region.

The vote will last for 4 hours, so make sure to vote quickly. And as always, have fun!

Groggily, you wake up in your bed, having not slept very well the night before. From what you recall...

Oh! Right!

You, Lucas Berlitz, are getting a Pokemon today!

With the revelation sparking back memories, you suddenly become invigorated, pulling on your clothes and getting ready for the day much faster. Just before you left, you rummage around in your night drawer, pulling out the only memento of your father...

[] A Signet ring, a clear diamond set into the middle. (Pokemon Diamond Version)
[] A Necklace with a large pink pearl on the string. (Pokemon Pearl Version)
[] A Pocket Watch, Engraved with pure platinum. (Pokemon Platinum Version)

You then head down the stairs, giving a greeting to your mother, before glancing at the television, where...

[] A Comedian is making a joke about the recent quality of Sinnoh trainers. He may be right, but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt! (Easy Mode)
[] A Pokemon Cooking show, which is showing a wonderful Looking Kalos Silk Pie being made. (Normal Mode)
[] An Exhibition Match between 2 elite trainers, showcasing the strength of the Pokemon. (Hard Mode)
[] A News Bulletin, reporting on the recent string of Pokemon breeding ring scandals that many higher ups in the league have been involved in. From what you know, some changes to the official League Policy have been made to stop this kind of crime. (Pokemon ??? Version: Nuzlocke Edition)

After getting a tearful goodbye from your mother (Who knew she was so emotional about this kind of stuff?) you opened the door...

And took in the air of Sandgem town. Since you were so close to the sea, the salt of the warm summer morning smelled absolutely wonderful. Sandgem town was no Jubilife, but it certainly wasn't a backwater. After all, Professor Rowan wouldn't want to settle somewhere in the middle of nowhere!

...Anyway, you made your way to the lab, greeting the neighbors. When you opened the door...

Everything looked exactly as it was. Organized books, Pokemon analysis machines, Boxes everywhere, Professor Rowan looking right at you...

Wait, what?

You startle and stiffen to attention when you notice the Professor's gaze on you. It was extremely intimidating, a signature feature of the "Iron-soul Professor". What was he like? Was he going to chastise you for being late? When was the time he set again? Was your hat off balance? Oh no Oh no what if he didn't give you a Pokemon? What were you going to-

"There you are, my boy! I've been waiting all morning for you!"

...That was not the tone you expected.

Despite your initial impressions, Professor Rowan turns out to be a very jolly man, with plenty of excitement in his voice. He asks how you've been, if you've had any trouble with making sure the late was clean, where his coffee was (it was next to the PC. Apparently he had been browsing the news.). However, after the small talk had finished, his face grew a bit more serious.

"Lucas, my boy. I know that you've wanted a Pokemon for the longest time, but I must ask you once more: Are you absolutely, positively, entirely sure that you're up to this?"

You quickly respond with a "Yes, Professor!".

Rowan regards you for a moment, before his face clears up and gives you a smile of approval.

"Very well then. If you are resolute in your path, then it's the least I can do to start you on your journey. Come with me."

You follow Professor Rowan off to the side room, before blinking. On the pillow you set onto the floor is a Briefcase, inside of which are 3 pokeballs. Professor Rowan takes them all out, before releasing them, revealing...

The 3 Pokemon every trainer starts with!

It's only when Professor Rowan chuckles that you realize you spoke aloud.
"Indeed, my boy! These three are the same species of Pokemon that all League trainers are given to start their journey! We have Turtwig, the Grass type Pokemon, Chimchar, the Fire type Pokemon, and Piplup, the Water type Pokemon. How about you take one as your own starter?"

You nod your head resolutely, before cautiously making your way to the three Pokemon. Your had reaching out, you point towards...

Well? What Pokemon did you choose?

(AN: Vote will be open for 6 hours.

Sorry that I went AWOL for a while there. I got bamboozled by work spontaneously. Luckily I don't have to work Holiday shifts anymore...

Anyway, yes there is a Nuzlocke option. Now, I will not give you any extra bonuses for choosing it. If you choose it, it's on your head if you get a Game Over. Anyway, have fun!)

Sandgem Town 2/ Route 201 1
Eventually, you found yourself liking the Pride and poise of Piplup. While Chimchar had interested you for the notorious lack of Fire-type Pokemon in the Sinnoh Region, if push came to shove you could just power through it with a fire fang or something. Professor Rowan nods accordingly, and gives you Piplup's pokeball. You held out a hand, giving a silent invitation. Piplup regards the appendage...

(Nature Roll: 16. Modest Nature!)

Before taking it, almost in a docile manner. Chimchar pats Piplup on the back in a Jolly fashion, while Turtwig regards you with a Relaxed look. You look back at Rowan, finding his obviously happy face to be a very nice look. However, once he opens his eyes, he motions for you to come along, Piplup following you.

"Now, I've already asked much of you in the past few years, considering you looked after the lab, but if you could do me one more favor, I would truly appreciate it. You see, there are two other new trainers over in Twinleaf town that will be getting Pokemon today, however I was just pressed into a quarterly meeting with the other Pokemon professors, so I was hoping you could aid me with it. Would you mind heading over to Twinleaf town and giving the trainers the new Pokemon?"

Finding no issue with it, you agree. Rowan's face lights up once more, happy that you were helping him.

"Excellent! Now, before you leave, I have a few tips. After giving the new Pokemon to the other two trainers, I would suggest going to the Lake Verity if you have a fishing rod, considering it is an excellent place to find a Magikarp. Considering what Pokemon it evolves to..."

He trailed off, and you understood. Gyrados was a terrifyingly powerful Pokemon to face.

"After that, I would suggest the Trainer's school in Jubilife city. It provides an excellent place to learn some of the lesser known basics of Pokemon training, and they give you a prize for completing the quiz for it!"

"If you finish that, Oreburgh is to the east of Jubilife, through the Oreburgh Gate. Don't make too much noise, lest you find yourself inundated with Zubat."

He shivers while you give a commiserating nod. You had seen a swarm on the news, and they looked nasty.

"Anyway, I've kept you for long enough. You best be on your way, before the other two do something drastic, like walking into the tall grass without Pokemon..."

He turns away, before blinking and smacking his palm.

"I nearly forgot! Some trainers nickname their Pokemon to feel closer to them. Would you like to do so?"

You blink yourself, before looking to Piplup, who looks back. Do you want to give him a nickname?

[] Yes.
-[] What Nickname shall Piplup have? (Write-in)
[] No.

----------------------------------

After leaving the professor's lab, you return to your house only to get glommed by your mother, who starts bombarding you with questions, fussing over your new Pokemon, and worrying herself into a fit. All at the same time.

It's rather impressive.

After calming her down, Your mother eventually states that your father would be proud that you were following in his footsteps. You're not going to lie, it made you tear up a bit, but you put on a brave face. Before you go to help the professor, you ask if Dad ever left a Fishing Rod in the basement.

(Fishing Rod? DC 70: 1)

Your mother looks thoughtful for a moment, before startling and looking incredibly guilty.

"I don't really know how to say this Lucas, so I'll just say it now: We had a Super Rod, but I sold it. In fact, the Buyer came by just a few days ago, remember?"

Damn it. Wait, wasn't that the guy who hit on her?

"A-ah. Yes, he was."

Right then. He dies.

(No Rod for you. Also, your mom got the moves put on her...while you were watching.)

Route 201. The beginning of many a trainer, most had come here to get to Lake Verity, or catch a Starly for their team. You, were no different. Only now...you didn't need mom to guide you. You could do this!

Only question was...what did you do?

What do you do?

(AN: Vote will be open for 12 hours. Also, your Piplup's stats are on the Character Sheet. I'd suggest looking at it.
I will say that seeing that one as your roll kinda made me choke there for a second. This is going to be a long, long game...)

Route 201 2
Nodding to yourself, you decide that while speed is of use, taking encounters as you will is always useful. You decide to hop down the cliff to save time, waving to the people along the route, before entering the tall grass. The first step gave you a bit of a shiver, finding nothing in the grass did help your nerves. Around halfway through the route...

...

A wild [Starly Lvl 2] Blocks your path!

Go, Neptune!

NEPTUNE: 21/21

STARLY: 13/13

What do you do?

(AN: 10 Hours for this vote. I'm sorry that I can't provide pictures, but the internet would not cooperate. I can still find town/building and character sprites though! Also, a bit for the future: Unless you specifically ask for the Pokemon in question, I'll only be fully plotting out battles between trainers, and the first wild encounter between Pokemon.)
