Strangers in a Strange Land

ZiPeppe
(Human colony)

A somewhat unwelcoming landscape greets you as you wake up - a dry, rocky area, deep crags cutting through the ground and tall, stone pillars rising tens of meters into the air. You can't see any vegetation larger than some bushes and clumps of ugly, dry grass and moss growing on the rocks. And it's rather cold, though not below freezing.

In the distance, you can see what looks like a small town - many small, prefabricated structures, what looks like a small spaceport and a small open-pit mine. You'd estimate a population of ten thousand, at most. Probably less than that. Looks like a backwater dump, but there's nothing else in sight.

Daraken
(Citadel)

You're greeted by the sight of a dark, rather dank and poorly lit corridor. At first glance, you'd think it was some kind of an abandoned underground facility, but the sounds of a city, coming from behind the door at the far end of the corridor don't quite mesh with that. The door at the opposite end seems to be locked, so with no other option, you head towards the noise.

The doors slide open as you come close and you are greeted by an otherworldly sight - quite literally at that. It opens up to a narrow balcony over a wide walkway. Beyond the walkway is a deep canyon of metal between two lines of skyscrapers, flying cars racing between them. And above… four arms, kilometers wide and kilometres long stretching out from a colossal ring. No, five, you're on one of the arms. You can see the lights of a city on each, and beyond, the warm glow of a nearby sun, and thousands of twinkling stars, shrouded by the haze of a nebula.

KnightDisciple
(Illium)

As you wake up, you're sure of one thing - this isn't Earth. If there were cities like this one on Earth, you're pretty sure you'd have heard about it. From the empty balcony you can see towers titanic towers all around you, each as tall as Burj Khalifa, at minimum and vastly more massive. Thousands of small car-like aircraft race between the buildings, massive aircraft that you're sure shouldn't be able to fly with or without wings float above the city, rising into the sky or descending to land.

Definitely not Earth.

Jemnite
(Khar'shan)

The first thing that hits you as you wake up is the smell. The stench of smoke, garbage and putrid water. As you get back to your feet, you become aware of your surroundings - the room of a building, three or four storeys tall, the roof's concrete looking old and cracked in places. Around you is a slum. Buildings similar to this one and various haphazard constructions of plastic and plywood stretch towards a nearby bay, spaced as tightly as possible. Garbage lies in the streets and putrid water pools in the corners and crags of the cracked pavement. You can see ships in the bay, naval and space-capable both, all looking aged and worn.

In the narrow streets, you can see crowds of people going around their business - workers, small-time traders, homeless. Most belong to a four-eyed humanoid species you can't identify, but there are also a few others in the crowd, likewise unknown. You see maybe three humans, total.

As you turn around, you see a stark contrast in the distance, beyond the slum - a city of gleaming, white towers lies beyond the slum, ships coming to ground or rising into space from it.

Usandru
(Asuka - Generic Awful Hellhole)

There are a few words to describe the place you woke up in - words such as "awful", "smelly", "hellhole", "ruined" or "terrible". It looks like a war or some natural disaster rolled through the place a long time ago and no-one ever quite got around to fixing the place up, completely - new buildings are intermixed with old, ruined ones, the roads have been broken and patched a hundred times. The people here are not human. Maybe a third of the people you see are humans, the rest are quite clearly aliens, a lot of them four-eyed humanoids. And evidently poor.

It doesn't take you long to notice other details, such as there being two moons, the light from the sun being blue, the gravity being seemingly weaker and the atmosphere being thinner than you're used to and somewhat hard to breathe.

alguLoD
(Omega)

You wake up on a hard surface, to a distant cacophony of unfamiliar sounds. The floor is damp, and the air is moist, and you can hear water tapping as droplets crash on the floor. Slowly, you get to your feet, and find that you're in a narrow passageway, illuminated by a dim, baleful red light. Why are you here and how, you've no idea, but it isn't what you would call a welcoming sight.

"Oi. Human." someone call from behind you, and you turn to see a strange, four eyed, but still somewhat human-like creature staring at you and pointing some sort of object. "Not your lucky day."

There's a flash from the opening at the end of the object, and suddenly something hits you in the gut with enough strength to send you tumbling back and almost sprawling to the floor. You regain balance… only for a second shot to sound and send you sprawling to the floor, in a quickly gathering pool of your own blood.

YOU DIED

You're not sure how long it takes for you to come back to life. There's no bonfire. Most of your equipment is gone, along with the four-eyed bastard. You're down to a few items, strewn all around you and the clothes on your back.

(You have the equipment you bought. Other items may appear as plot demands.)

Asuka Langley Sohryu whimpered weakly from where she was lying. Why was everything so awful? What had happened…?

A stabbing pain in her eye. A feeling as if something thin and sharp was gouging it out. Her whimpers became hateful hisses. Were they still there? Her enemies, her foes, were they still alive? Those monsters that had taken her eye…!

She touched it gently. It was still there.

She let her hand drift down her body. It was all still there. But hadn't she…?

Shivers ran through her as the memory of her last sortie drifted up from the depths of her mind. She whimpered again, and rubbed at her moistened eyes. It was just the pain, surely. She wasn't crying. Asuka was the best, and she never cried…

Still… what had happened…?

She remembered Rei. Somehow. Rei had come before her. Rei had died, and come back, and then…

"The hell is with you, Wondergirl?" Asuka whispered.

Asuka had died. Rei had taken her away. She'd gone to a warm place. She'd been safe. She…

Asuka blinked. She felt dazed. Her memories were strange, and the bluish sunlight irritated her eyes.

Wait.

She slowly adjusted her position and looked around.

She did not quite believe what she saw.

MAJOR ACTION: Survive
PLAN: Assess surroundings. Objectives are, in order of priority:
1. Find a source of water safe for humans to drink.
2. Find a source of food safe for humans.
3. Find a way to get money.
4. Find shelter.
5. Figure out if language will be an issue, and if it can be bypassed.

ASSETS INVOKED:
Charisma (Trainee)
Bluff (Trainee)
Tactics (Trained)
Pillar: I'm the Best (2)
AS Pilot Suit
Monomolecular Cutter
Kaji's Jacket
Kaji's Gun
Pillar: I am an Eva Pilot (Broken) [Broken pillars always grant boosts]

METHOD OF INVOCATION:
Be a young hotshot pro on a fuckin' mission! Asuka Langley Sohryu is not part of this shitheap, she's the bloody best! All these people in the shitheap might as well just call her Queen Sohryu!

Use the fairly shiny gear and innate confidence to project an aura of "fuck you all". If work is the only thing that'll get her cash, confidence is what separates the wheat from the chaff in applying for work. The story? She's working freelance, independent contractor. Why doesn't she have cash? Training, man. Survival training. Who knows when shit goes down? Be ready for everything. Besides, what the fuck do you need to know about her for? Are you picking a fight? Don't screw with goddamn Asuka Langley Sohryu!

Years of living on the front lines of a major war, allowed Selath to pass from unconsciousness to being fully awake in an instant. What she saw however took more than a few moments to process. She was no longer inside her base with Malak looming against her, but she suddenly was on some kind of barren planet. The change in scenery so sudden and different from what she remembered being in, that she stood still, gaping, trying to grasp what actually happened.

After checking what she had with her - nearly nothing considering her usual equipment loadout - she started looking around, and finally spotted a small town in the distance. The bad news was that it was some kind of backwater colony, the very bad news was that her face was kind of (in)famous and the good news was that the city had a spaceport of sort.

'Time to go then' she thought sardonically as she begun trekking towards the town.

Complex Action: Find out where I am, and find a way off this planet.
PLAN: Scout the town, cautiously. They may live on a backwater planet, but Mandalorians have quite the reputation; better safe than sorry. Find isolated individuals and/or small groups of people and talk with them to extract as much information as possible on the planet. Careful use of mind tricks (disguised as gesticulating) should also help in this endeavor.

ASSETS INVOKED:
Force: Esoteric - Precognition/Force Capable
(The trust your instincts thing all force users have and do. Not sure which one of the two is or if it is both at the same time)
Diplomacy: Trainee
Force Mind: Professional

Complex Action: Money. The engine of most civilizations.
PLAN: Planets like this usually always have some problem or another, that people are willing to pay to get solved; and Mandalorians these days are mostly mercenaries or bounty hunters. Passing off as one shouldn't be difficult.

ASSETS INVOKED:
Diplomacy: Trainee
Band of Brothers. (2)
(I'm helping the community after all)
Fully sealed Beskar armor (made from salvaged pieces).
Mandalorian ripper
Lightsaber

General Action: Shelter
PLAN:
Quite simply, find a safe place to sleep in case the stay on this planet is longer than expected. Use the information gathered and the goodwill for doing jobs for these people to do that. Little "nudges" should be quite useful in that regard.

ASSETS INVOKED:

Diplomacy: Trainee
Force Mind: Professional

General Action: Cover story
PLAN: Use the information gathered to construct a sufficiently plausible cover story for my presence on the planet, like a good location for a possible (non-existant) crash landing and lack of debris. Usage of mind tricks to make the story more believable (like making people gloss over certain details); and a little bit of intimidation (Mandalorian) to stave off some curiosity, should help immensely.

ASSETS INVOKED:
Diplomacy: Trainee
Fully sealed Beskar armor (made from salvaged pieces).
Mandalorian ripper

Project: Training Force Mind
If she wanted to get out of here on a relatively low key, she needed to be better at manipulating minds, thankfully this place certainly did not lack for opportunities to do that. Of course choosing the right victims and the right time is extremely important in situation like this, so some surveillance first to do that would be ooptimal.

METHOD OF INVOCATION:

Selath was wearing a set of Mandalorian armor, made of Beskar even; posing as a though as nails Mandalorian gun for hire or Bounty Hunter should not be difficult, especially with her familiarity by necessity with their culture. And pumping people for information? Quite doable, even if she never finished her diplomacy training. The fact she was going to cheat with some mind tricks and that quiet dignity all Jedi seemed to exude, should make that even more easy. Besides, who wouldn't talk when politely questioned by a Mandalorian?

Flynn Walker
His head hurt, and the helmet of the DEMONICA was far too oppressive for comfort. Flynn groaned as he picked himself up from the floor, removing the stifling headgear and taking in his surroundings. He was in some sort of corridor, most likely in one of the many underground shelters the survivors of Tokyo huddled in. But, what was he doing here? The last thing he could recall was talking to Isabeau and Fujiwara in the Florida Cafe...

"Burroughs?" Flynn asked as he took a look at his Gauntlet COMP. There was no response, and instead of the face of the COMP's fairy there was merely a spinning icon, the words BOOTING filling the rest of the screen.

Shaking his head, Flynn made a quick review of his situation. With his COMP disabled, he had no access to his demons or his magic. His gun was missing as well, though he had his armor even if he couldn't remember putting it on. At the very least he still had his blade, Flynn comforted to himself, as he gave the pommel of his sword a pat.

No point in staying here. With one end of the corridor locked, Flynn steels himself before opening the other. Noises, far too loud for this to just be some simple shelter are worrisome. What the young man sees when he opens the doors is far more impressive and shocking than what his wildest imaginations could have provided though.

Strange flying vehicles fill the air, and great cities sit astride on the massive arms that dominate the view. The normally unflappable Samurai can only stare in shock. Is this what Tokyo looked like before it's ruin? No, this was even more wondrous and magnificent. These cities were alive, and sprawled across what must have been incredible distances.

*BOOTING COMPLETE*

"Master Flynn?"

Jolted out of his awed induced stupor, Flynn took a relieved look at his COMP, Burroughs' avatar once more filling the screen.

"Status, Burroughs?"

The fairy of the Gauntlet COMP made her report. Most of his demons were gone; the ones remaining a pale shadow compared to what he had before, but it would do. His magic similarly, some strangely missing but enough remaining to comfort Flynn. He wasn't defenseless. Most worrying was that Burroughs could not recall what happened to the duo. Like Flynn, her last recorded memories were them at the Florida Cafe before she awoke at the balcony, with no idea of how they came to this strange locale.

"Hold on Master," interjected Burroughs as she completes her report. "Oh, wireless signals! It's been so long since I've had a chance to activate my electronic communication protocols. Please wait, Master. I might be able to get more information soon!" the fairy concludes cheerfully.

Flynn gives a small smile at Burroughs' unfamiliar words. She sounded confident at least, and that would have to do. The Samurai turned to re-enter the dim corridor, taking a seat on the floor as he waits for the COMP's fairy to finish her task.

Having decided to let Archangel force the door open later, boredom is beginning to set in when Burroughs finally speaks, her tentative tone immediately setting Flynn on edge. "Master, I have some worrying news. This place, it's known as the Citadel. And it's nowhere near Tokyo. It's not even on Earth or in the Solar System. Master, we're on the other side of the galaxy!"

In response, Flynn merely shuts his eyes and huffs a quiet sigh. The terms Burroughs used were strange but the meaning is clear enough. He was a long ways away from home, in a strange new land.

"Is there a way back to Tokyo, Burroughs?" asks the Samurai, hoping against hope.

"Ah, ah, please wait Master. There's just so much information on this Extranet!" There's another indeterminately long pause before the fairy of the Gauntlet COMP speaks again. "Yes, master. There seems to be starships which travel regularly from the Citadel to Earth."

Ships...of the stars?

"But Master, I don't think that would get you back home. I've checked the information available on Earth; Tokyo exists but there is no mention of the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado. In fact, there are no references to God's Wrath or demons appearing at all! The people of Earth consider them mere superstitions, imaginary creatures of legend. Master, given the information I've found so far...I think this is an alternate reality."

The words leave a sour taste in Flynn's mouth. No, it didn't matter. If he had somehow ended up in some strange new reality, there must be a way back as well. It didn't matter how long it'd take or how difficult the path may be; he'd find a way back home, to his friends and comrades.

"Ah, one more thing Master," interrupted Burroughs. The image of a strange avian humanoid filled the COMP's screen, followed by a blue skinned, hairless human and finally a tall slim amphibian.

"Demons? I thought you said this reality had no demons?"

"No Master, aliens! Aliens, Master! Oh, you take me to the most fascinating places!" Burroughs responded excitedly. "They're mortal like you, but have totally different biological systems!"

Flynn blinks wearily at this latest bit of information. No, this was too much. File it away and process it later. "Anything else I need to know, Burroughs?" There's the slightest hint of trepidation and resignation in the Samurai's question.

"Yes, Master. You should refrain from summoning your demons while on the Citadel. I predict that their appearance would cause quite the panic, attracting the attention of the local authorities. They would most likely confiscate your equipment. Furthermore, you may wish to limit use of your magic. I have discovered references to something called 'biotics' that seems similar to magic, but not quite. Again, you may draw the wrong kind of attention, Master."

A handicap then. Not an insurmountable one, and at least he has a goal in mind now. The obstacles in his path might be many, but he'd make his own way. And the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Giving a final nod to himself, Flynn places his helmet back on and readies his Gauntlet.

"Let's get to work then."

---

Complex Action: Information Gathering
Flynn is a fish out of water, lost in space, in a world turned upside down and he realizes this. It is fortunate that Burroughs has access to this "Extranet" that seems to be a fount of information. It may take her time, but she should be able to at least acquire the basics to surviving in this strange gigantic floating city. In the meantime, there's no reason why Flynn can't wander around a bit to familiarize himself in the new environment. What's the worse that can happen?

Assets
Persuasion: Professional
Charisma: Professional
AI Burroughs/Gauntlet COMP

Complex Action: Job Hunting
Language barriers can be broken eventually, but Flynn still lacks money or identification. Luckily, the Samurai is familiar with irregular sources of funding, side quests odd-jobs. Body-guarding, mercenary work, bounty hunting or even scutwork; anything to help build up his resources and connections. The authorities of the Citadel are an unknown, but that does not mean the criminal element is any better. As always, Flynn walks The Middle Path.

Assets
Pillar: The Middle Path (Don't want to draw attention of authorities, and unwilling to do obviously criminal acts)
Infantry Combat: Professional (Flynn's demeanor and stance is that of an experienced fighter)
SMT Magic: Zio, Drain, Debuffs (Demonstrate "biotic/tech" powers to potential employers)
Persuasion: Professional
Charisma: Professional
AI Burroughs/Gauntlet COMP
DEMONICA (Well maintained armor that has clearly seen use, no amateur here)

General Action: Finding Shelter
Flynn is no stranger to sleeping in unpleasant or harsh conditions. While these "Wards" may have gang members and petty criminals, they can't be worse than the demons who ravaged Tokyo. Until he acquires a source of income, Flynn is sure he can find some sort of refuge. If he's lucky, maybe he'll find some charitable soul. If not, well, sleeping in an abandoned ruin isn't anything new.

Assets
Persuasion: Professional
Charisma: Professional
AI Burroughs/Gauntlet COMP

General Action: Self Education
Raised as a peasant in the Eastern Kingdom of Mikado, Flynn knows that he is ignorant of much of the world, his eyes opened by his experiences in Tokyo. The unceasing fights and adventures of the previous year left no time to study, but perhaps in this new land he will finally have the opportunity. It's time to start walking on his own, instead of relying on Burroughs for everything.

Assets
AI Burroughs/Gauntlet COMP

Project: Tech Powers
This is truly a strange new world. Records are not kept on paper, but "electronically" as Burroughs says. And while Flynn has started learning to adjust to a new paradigm, it won't be enough. Thankfully, he still has Burroughs. While her experience with other electronics and technology may be limited, as an artificial intelligence her ability to learn and adapt are unmatched. Most importantly, replicating those fascinating tech powers like hacking and manipulating electronics are just the thing her Master needs help with.

Haruto Soma, Kamen Rider Wizard

I looked around, trying to make sense of what I saw. My eyes widened, and I looked around the area I sat on.

"Koyomi! Shunpei! Rinko! Wajima!"

No answer. Not that I really expected one. I somehow knew, deep down, that I was alone here. More alone than I'd ever been before. For a split second I felt Dragon stir within me, hoping for Despair to take over.

My hands clenched, and I closed my eyes as I took deep breaths.

"No. I am here now. Wherever they are, they are safe. They have Kosuke, and Mayu, to watch over them. I need to figure out where I am. I should be able to gain some alti-"

I checked the chain at my belt that should hold my extensive collection of Magic and Style rings. It barely carried anything. Connect, Defend, and Flame Style. I could feel the potential within my body for the bulk of my powers, but whatever had brought me here had stripped me of the tools necessary to access those powers.

I checked a strange weight in my front pocket; it was some odd form of computer device. I didn't recognize it, but at the moment I wasn't exactly an expert on computers. Somehow though, I knew it had the foundational knowledge about crafting Magic Rings and my associated tools. As if Old Man Wajima had written a textbook on the matter. I smiled at the thought.

My friends watched over me, even now.

Wherever "here" was. That should probably be my first goal: Figure out where in the world I am and what might be going on.

I smiled as I hopped on the Machine Winger, pulling on my motorcycle helmet. The building I was on looked like an older warehouse, so no one should mind if I took the stairs...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Complex Action: Figure out where I am, and the basics of this world.
Plan: Exit the warehouse, start looking for something that looks like a library, or police station, or something. Riding the Machine Winger, of course. Once I get someplace I can try to read up on things, start working on figuring out where I've ended up, and what I can do to eitehr get by around here, or get home, even. If law enforcement approaches me (which would be just my luck), be polite and fairly straightforward with them. Explain I'm not from around here, and I'm not entirely sure how I got here. I'm not looking to cause trouble, just to get my bearings. If there are laws I've broken I didn't know about them, I apologize profusely, and I'd like to make sure we get everything straightened up and corrected so that everyone is satisfied.
Assets Invoked: Skills: Persuasion, Vehicular Driving; Assets: Machine Winger.
Haruto still thinks he's on Earth, or maybe a Human-colonized planet. He has no idea he's on a Blue Space Babe planet! How's them apples? On the plus side he's not going to question the legitimacy of female law enforcement officers, thanks to Rinko

-----(A bit of time goes past for Haruto to figure out what exactly is up regarding where he is.)-----

Complex Action: Try to start making new friends in this strange and wonderful land. It's kind of lonely.
Plan: If you asked me yesterday if I thought I'd wake up on a planet most guys could only dream of, one filled with scientific wonder and lots of exotic (blue is exotic, right?), beautiful women, I'd have said "no". I would have been wrong, though.
This place, Illium, is strange, but it's also wonderful. I'm alive, and I'm here. I might as well try to make friends, get to know people better. Who knows, maybe I'll figure out something to do around here so the police don't harass me too much.
Assets Invoked: Skills: Persuasion; Virtue: Hope Is Stronger Than Despair (determination to not give up hope despite the totally bizarre circumstances)

----------------------------------------------------

General Action: Try to get a job.
Plan: Well, I'm definitely on a strange alien planet, but the people are friendly. Mostly. They do keep bugging me about being a "bum" though, so I might as well try and get some work. I'm not that great at some of the fancier computer type work or whatnot. But I suppose I could make a pretty solid bodyguard or security guard. If that just absolutely doesn't pan out I could always be a delivery guy, I guess. But guarding would probably be more fun. Plus it'll buy me more donuts.
Assets Invoked: Pillars: I Will Be Your Last Hope, Power Brings Responsibility, I Will Protect My Friends; Skills: Infantry Combat, Persuasion, Public Speaking; Assets: WizarSwordGun, Machine Winger.
Haruto wouldn't reveal his Kamen Rider form unless the situation demanded it, and would prefer to get by on his actual skills with hand-to-hand, ranged, and sword combat, and only showing off the WizarSwordGun (which should be pretty exotic by itself).

----------------------------------------------------

Training Project: Figure out how this place's computers work, and get better in working with computers.
Plan: Work to train myself (in my off time) on working better with computers. If necessary, get someone I know to take pity on me and help me. Start with the basics, and see where we go from there.
Assets Invoked: Skills: Persuasion (to get some help starting out).

----------------------------------------------------

Training Project: Start figuring out this Ring theory that I've got.
Plan: Start reading through that OSD with Ring Creation Theory on it. Try to wrap my head around it.
Assets Invoked: Assets: Ring Creation Theory (OSD).

As far as a first impressions go, this one was fairly good.

You marched out into the street, trying to look like you owned the place and the local cockroaches better not mess with you. No-one's tried to start anything, and you managed to get a few thugs to get out of your way with an annoyed glare. Doing well, so far…

Though, who are these 'Eclipse' people? You've listened in on some locals talking, and they seem to be thinking you're a recruit.

Information gathering hasn't gone badly, either. While the place is a shit heap, conditions are livable, as evidenced by people still being alive. There are a few sources of drinking water, mainly wells and rain collection - some are owned, a few are free, but you can't be sure what's in the water with the latter. There are farms outside the ruined city, as well as some hydroponics. Food from those is being sold in a few places, at annoyingly high prices. If you can't afford those, well, there's a lot of yellow, solid-ish stuff made from 'recycled biomass' being sold for cheap or handed out at a charity.

You have a feeling you don't want to know what's in that.

There's a functional economy. Most of the population seems to be working blue collar, in construction, cleanup or the largest local industry - recycling the giant starship wrecks that the litter the entire place. However, there are a few jobs better suited towards your skill set - the local gangs are recruiting, there's work for bounty hunters (mainly from the local sad excuse for a mob), some security work on claimed wrecks and in the better-off areas of the local town. You made a good impression, so all these options should be open.

Shelter is available. Someone cleaned up parts of wreck of a cruiser (which is larger than the Over the Rainbow) and turned them into a cheap apartment complex. He's rich, now. Rooms are cheap, however and they're willing to wait with the rent for a month before removing fingers. One month's rent is 500c for a fairly small room with running water and basic AC that'll keep the temperature at a manageable level.

Language doesn't seem to be an issue. There's a lot of humans and quite a few of them talk in languages that you can understand. Also, the 'omni-tools', some kind of multi-purpose hand held devices have translation software, so most of the aliens can understand you. Omni-tools are cheap, you can get one for 50c.

ASSETS INVOKED:
+1 Force Capable
+1 Diplomacy: Trainee
+3 Force Mind: Professional

(5 + 12 -> 17)

You approach the town. However, rather than walk right in, you take some time to observe, get a feel for its layout and find someone to talk to.

That goes well. There's a few hydroponic farms on the edges of the town and you wind up talking to a friendly human farmer living on his own. The colony is called "Shorekeep". Why that, when there's no shore? He has absolutely no idea, either. Most of the population is human, and it's apparently a mining colony, extracting palladium and selling it off to the "Systems Alliance".

The quickest way off the planet is by the freighter arriving to pick up the palladium. It arrives every three months and it left two weeks ago, but they should be willing to pick you up for a small sum. The alternative is the few shuttles owned by the locals, which are capable of short range FTL flight. You could hire someone to give you a ride to the regional hub planet of Elysium, which has regular flights to anywhere within "Council Space"

When prompted, he elaborates a bit on the Systems Alliance and the Council.

He's curious about what species, exactly, are you, but you deflect the question with a quick mind trick.

Complex Action: Money. The engine of most civilizations.

ASSETS INVOKED:

Band of Brothers. (2)
->No bonus. You're an outsider to this group , not exactly doing charity work, or something that really benefits the locals, much.
+1 Fully sealed Beskar armor (made from salvaged pieces).
+1 Mandalorian ripper
+1 Lightsaber

(4 + 16 -> 20)

There are, in fact, side-quests problems the locals need a mercenary to handle. Namely, some annoying off-world species called the 'varren' and a small band of 'vorcha'. You've no idea what a vorcha is, but it sounds vicious. And is also armed.

The varren job will involve patrols and killing them off if they show up. Steady pay of a 100c, daily. Easy money, really.

The vorcha job is from the local administration, and they're willing to pay quite a bit more for it - 6,000c, which should buy you passage off-world by shuttle and still leave you with some credits. It's more dangerous, however - there's a dozen of them and they're armed. Not strong enough to threaten the colony, but they've been harassing the outskirts and the local militia just isn't organized enough to hunt them down.

General Action: Shelter

ASSETS INVOKED:

+Diplomacy: Trainee
+++Force Mind: Professional

(4 + 1 -> 5)

There are a few free apartments around town, but they're expensive - rent is 1,000c per month, on average, for what's literally a single, kinda small room with a tiny bathroom. You attempted using diplomacy reinforced by mind tricks, but these people must be part-toydarian, or something, because it fails miserably. Greedy bastards.

'Great, just great!' Selath thought. 'I must be in the middle of the Force-damn-them Unknown Regions!' putting on a pleasant facade, she thanked the human and moved inside the town. There was simply no way she was going to be stuck on this rock for three months, she would find a way to get on one of those shuttles; even if it meant breaking the mind of one of these morons.

Hopefully on Elysium she would be able to find a ship with a decent enough hyperdrive to reach the more familiar parts of the galaxy. 'Unless you are too far away,' a traitorous thought said. ' The Force here does not seem to be affected by the conflict going on after all.'

Selath metaphorically shuddered at the thought, but promptly dismissed it. It was simply impossible after all.

Vorcha. She never heard of that species before, but that was not surprising. It was a very big galaxy after all. In any case their death would mean getting off this rock faster, something she was all for. time to go scrounging for information about the Vorcha with the militia and their version of the holonet, if they even had one.

(4 + 1 -> 5)

The human who tried to rent her that excuse for an habitation was alive by a miracle. After she heard just how pricey it was and the sheer bull-headiness about it she was too stunned to properly convey her frustration. She would rather carve a cave with her lightsaber than give that slimy Hutt a single credit.

General Action: Get as much information as possible on the Vorcha in general and these ones in particular.
PLAN: Talk to the milita, get everything they know about them. Look for them on the Holonet (or local equivalent). Any recording of them fighting, the weapons they may carry, what they have pillaged, unusual behaviours, detailed maps, last known locations, where they attacked and when. This kind of stuff.

ASSETS INVOKED:
Diplomacy: Trainee

Complex Action: Preparation, preparation, preparation.
PLAN: Try to get as much equipment as possible from the militia. Sensors, shields, rations, survival kits. The feeling is that Vorcha are almost considered vermins, and getting killed by them or while hunting them because of arrogance would be quite humiliating. Also it may take more than an afternoon to hunt them down. If asked our equipment got damaged beyond repair.

General Action: Look for someone willing to ferry me to Elysium.
PLAN: Simply ask around who would be willing to do that after my return from the hunting trip. The lowest bidder gets the job/money. Even use a small mental push here and there to encourage that.

ASSETS INVOKED:
Diplomacy: Trainee
Force: Mind (Professional)

Complex Action: Hunt down the Vorcha.
PLAN: Track the Vorcha down with everything available: from the Force to the information gathered. They must have a base of operation, a place where they rest and/or store the loot. The patterns of attacks should give a rough idea of where that is, and there may be tracks to follow at the site of the latest attack. The Force is also uniquely suited for something like that, them being living beings with - apparently - sufficient sentience.

ASSET INVOKED:

Whatever i could get with my previous action.

Project: Training Force Mind
If she wanted to get out of here on a relatively low key, she needed to be better at manipulating minds, thankfully this place certainly did not lack for opportunities to do that. Of course choosing the right victims and the right time is extremely important in situation like this, so some surveillance first to do that would be optimal.

What's the worst that could happen? You've no idea, because it clearly did not. Gathering information went extremely well, starting with Burroughs finding copy of the "Galactic Codex: 2279 Edition" on the extranet. After a few hours of skimming, you have the basic knowledge of the Citadel and the galaxy in general. With that knowledge, you decide to set out into the Wards.

Things continue going well. As you wander through the Wards, you pass by aliens and humans alike. You'd think you wouldn't be able to talk due to the language barrier, but everyone seems to be carrying some sort of a translation device. The people you talked to along the way were friendly enough, directing you to a few places of interest - a few diners, some of them really cheap, a shelter or the homeless, a few hardware and software stores, a cinema, a few potential employers.

After a few hours of wandering, the streets start emptying as the day comes to an end. You begin to contemplate looking for some shelter for the night, when out of the blue, someone runs out of an alley and straight into you, almost knocking you down to the ground. You manage to get your balance, but whoever just ran into you was less lucky and landed on their back. As they frantically scramble to their feet, you manage to get a look at the person - one of the aliens who have to walk in sealed suits, a quarian. You're pretty sure he's male.

Before either of you can really do anything, four people, two humans, an asari and a turian run out of the alley.

"We've got you now!" the turian declares "You, human! Better stay out of this."

The quarian just barely managed to get back to his feet. No way he's going to escape the four. However, they don't look well-armed - just knives. The asari might be an issue, given these 'biotics' you've read about, but she doesn't look like much of a fighter - just a thug, like the other three.

You're on a lucky streak, it seems. After a few more hours of searching, you find a small mercenary unit looking for recruits. They're offering a monthly pay of 4,000c for starters, which should be more or less enough to get by comfortably on the Citadel, according to Burroughs. Mostly, they seem to be doing security jobs for companies and VIP protection. A cursory check indicates they're on the level and don't deal in anything illegal, but you can't be sure without a more thorough investigation.

They're a bit leery to hire you, due to your lack of qualifications, but agree to put you through an evaluation with the other three recruits. At first, it's just an obstacle course, firing range, and hand to hand combat, all of which you pass with little trouble within two days

The final test, on the third day, however, is a combat test. The four of you will go up against a number of remotely controlled light security mechs, first individually, then as a team.. Both sides use non-lethal ammunition, so it isn't life threatening, but your career depends on it.

You hit the road. The arcology appears to have designated passages for small vehicles, such as motorcycles. And, luckily, there's a speed limit written in arabic numerals and English alongside alien script, so you don't break any laws right off the bat.

After a few minutes of driving, you find what looks to be a library. Investigating, you find that most of the books are written in alienish, but the friendly librarian directs you to an 'extranet terminal' and an tells you that you can download books onto your 'omni-tool' - they have a lot of translated, electronic copies.

Not having an omni-tool, you choose the extranet terminal and it doesn't take you long to realize that it's basically Space Internet. After a bit of searching for an encyclopedia, or something, you find a "Galactic Codex: 2279 Edition" and spend a few hours skimming through it, and getting a basic idea of how things are.

You also check the article on Illium and a few forum posts. This place might look beautiful, but the best word to describe what's underneath might be "rotten". Better not to sign any deals without reading the fine print.

You have basic information. By the looks of it, there's still time until the library closes, so you can look more stuff up. Or you can leave and visit some other place - you found a floor map for the arcology and there's a police station a level below.

You hang around various places in the arcology, getting to know the place as you go the quest for friends. You strike up a conversation with a few people, but it doesn't really go anywhere. Until you run into Arina.

She's a young asari (only a hundred and three) and came here from off-world a few months ago, so while she doesn't know everything about the place, she knows a fair bit and is happy to help out a fellow off-worlder. The two of you spend most of the day together - she seems friendly, and talkative. Really talkative. At moments, you can barely get a word in, before she goes off on another tangent. It's… sorta annoying, really. Still, friendly face.

She shows you around the arcology and tells you about some places of interest in the city of Nos Astra. She also notes that she knows a few people you could do some work for, for a quick buck.

Honest work. Nothing illegal.

Really.

Goddamn bullshit.

Asuka absently kicked a few rusted bolts as she sat on a starship wreck and considered her options.

Everything was goddamn bullshit.

Aliens. Spaceships. Machine translators.

Asuka Langley Sohryu was in the grand future of space! And she was stuck as Queen of Shit Mountain. Bull. Fucking. Shit.

She could barely even get angry. It was just so… absurdly unfair. Asuka was sure that Shinji wouldn't wake up in the space future on shit mountain. Nooo. Boy Genius Shinji Ikari, Best Pilot, would land gently near the heart of civilization, and that goddamn purple eyesore would probably stick right along, because it always fucking did.

At least…

Asuka pulled Kaji's jacket closer and suppressed tears. She wasn't doing that. She wasn't accepting that. If she'd died and then come back…

"...did you save him too, Wondergirl?" She whispered to the wrecks.

Kindly red eyes.

Asuka blinked and shivered. What had happened?

In the end, it hardly mattered.

***

The streets were disgusting. Full of wretched creatures and their waste. Tepid, stagnant fluids pooled in potholes and shadowed crevices, while the harsh glare of the sun scorched away everything else. Flakes of rust and metal swirled in the wind, and an acrid, decaying smell prickled her nostrils.

A four-eyed wretch shakily proffered a collection box as she walked past. Grimy, sweaty creatures passed her by, glancing in surprise at the still-shiny suit and her mostly-clean and well-brushed hair.

A few children were playing among the wreckage. But not many.

Asuka strode onwards. It was no worse than the poorer districts of Berlin, after all. There was nothing she could do for them, even if she cared to.

A slip of an alien - a girl? - sat staring at her from the shade underneath a warped plate of metal. The tiny eyes drilling into Asuka's back as she forced herself to keep moving.

It was, after all, no worse than the worse parts of Berlin.

In minutes, she was past the shantytown, and the ghostly tickles of eyes following her receded until there were none…

A little distance away was the reclamation and recycling camp. The towering wreck of a giant starship, collapsing slowly upon itself, twisting and tearing while the metal screeched in pain. It was huge. Enormous.

An alien was looking at her as she approached. It was clad in a dusty suit of armour and cradled a futuristic gun. A turian, she thought she'd heard them called.

"You the Eclipse girl?" It finally rasped out, voice amplified and projected from a decent distance. Asuka frowned and shrugged.

"I'm the one interested in work." She called back.

The alien nodded in response to that, and began talking quietly to someone else, probably over radio.

"Right, the boss says come into the site. Don't approach the wreck, go straight to the prefab. Try any funny business, and you'll get shot."

Asuka nodded and called out an affirmative. She'd expected about as much.

As she came closer, she could see quickly erected fencing around the wreck, and a checkpoint about large enough to let vehicles pass through. Hardly deterrent against any concerted effort, but likely enough to ward off petty thieves and inconvenience anyone of a mind to attack. Another two security stood by the checkpoint, one by the ground, the other on a platform overlooking the area. Further in was the prefab, and a small prefab barrack.

One of the security, helmeted and thus difficult to see what species it was, waved her onwards. On the wreck, she could see a few beings scurrying on the outside halting to briefly look over at her, and then resume salvaging, methodically ripping exterior plates from the former ship.

Then she entered the prefab and came face to face with some… blue-skinned woman with tentacle hair sitting behind a desk. The amount of human features were uncanny.

"So." The blue woman said, gesturing blandly at a chair. Asuka sat down while the woman continued.

"Rumours spread fast around here. A human girl with shiny gear and an attitude showing up is juicy news. Looking for work too. The odds are on you being an Eclipse initiate. You feel like confirming or denying?" The woman smiled blandly.

"I'm not asking for your story here. Besides, it doesn't matter shit all. I'm not here because of anyone else." Asuka retorted with no real heat.

"Hmm. I suppose. Well then, you want work? I can afford a bit more security. If you're as good as you pretend to be, anyway." The woman said, leaning back and flicking through a few things on her computer.

"I can do security, sure. I'm better than that, though." Asuka said, grinning slyly.

"Oh?" The woman said, glancing at her dismissively. "Some kind of pro with a gun? Worth ten of my normal guys?"

Asuka scoffed.

"Please. That's just insulting. I've taken courses in mechanical engineering and physics. I betcha with a bit of equipment and some of your know-nothing salvaging flunkies I could speed up your operation. And I can do security. Just because I'm stuck on this shitheap and I've got sexy gear doesn't mean I'm an uneducated moron." She declared, smirking confidently.

"I'm good. Stick me in some kind of exoskeleton and I'm the best. Don't write me off as just a flunky gun-for-hire. You'll be missing out."

COMPLEX ACTION CONTINUED: Survive
PLAN: Get hired for loads of dosh by being so fuckin' awesome.

Flynn Walker
Complex Action (Continued): Information Gathering

"Stop."

With that single authority-laden word, Flynn steps forward to place himself between the four and the quarian, his armored form moving to shield the other man. Perhaps the group had a legitimate reason for chasing down the fleeing alien, some wrong they rightfully sought recompense for. After all from what he could recall, quarians were supposed to be itinerant wanderers and beggars, which meant it was a possibility.

But the situation seemed far too familiar to the lost Samurai, a scene that he's seen before many times. Memories of Ashura-kai thugs squeezing the lifeblood from the denizens of Tokyo and cultists of the Ring of Gaea crushing the poor and weak beneath them filled Flynn's mind. It seemed like even in this fascinating new world filled with strange aliens, things remained the same. And if these four were of the same ilk of the scum back home, Flynn would not stand idly by. He had not back then, and he would not now.

"Explain yourselves."

His voice is harsh, the threatening tone clear to everyone. A peaceful resolution would be best here, but the way the four are gripping their knives, the looks on their faces; they were clearing looking for blood. Intimidation would have to do in this case. The Samurai's stance has already shifted to a combat ready position, the picture of an experienced fighter, impending violence barely leashed. If his words failed, the fighting would start in an instant.

Flynn considered the group, categorizing the threats before him. The humans and turian were a low priority, compared to the potential threat of the asari. No- he shouldn't assume things in this new environment, all four could be more dangerous than they seemed. More than one of his fellow Samurai had met their end underestimating a new and unknown demon. Area attacks would be more effective at addressing all the threats at once, and a plan forms in Flynn's head as he comes to that decision.

"There's no need for violence."

But there will be.

Plan: Intimidate thugs into leaving

Assets
Pillar: Protector of the Masses
Persuasion: Professional
Charisma: Professional
Infantry Combat: Professional
DEMONICA
Excalibur

Method of Invocation
Protector of the Masses, Persuasion and Charisma are the verbal component, giving Flynn's words that extra bite of honest, restrained viciousness. Infantry Combat, DEMONICA and Excalibur combine to form the physical component, creating the image and aura of a veteran fighter; armed, armored and dangerous.

Contingency Plan: Remove the thugs' ability to be a threat

Assets
Pillar: Protector of the Masses
Infantry Combat: Professional
Tactics: Professional
SMT Magic: Expert
DEMONICA
Gauntlet COMP
Excalibur

Method of Invocation
Start off with a Debilitate to weaken their strength and slow reflexes. Mazio follows, and depending on their condition, another Mazio or striking with Excalibur. Avoid deaths if possible and if any flee, don't bother chasing.

Complex Action (Continued): Job Hunting

The concept of recruitment, jobs given based on one's merits and skills is strangely novel to Flynn. Nothing at all like the strict caste system of Mikado, or the Gauntlet Rite that selected new Samurai. The work itself seems reasonable, nothing unfamiliar or unacceptable to the young man. Meanwhile, the evaluations thus far were nostalgic, reminiscent of the exercises and tests the grizzled Samurai veterans had put Flynn and his fellow prentices through in their training.

Shaking his head to clear away the idle thoughts of yesterdays, Flynn takes a look around the small waiting room. A few days of frantic studying and processing new knowledge in his free time has yet to make his situation any less bizarre or wondrous, a thought that remains as the Samurai views his fellow recruits. A pair of turians, brothers apparently and a young asari occupy the room alongside him, fidgeting in anticipation and making their own silent preparations. Aliens, not demons, as Burroughs said. Mortals with mortal foibles.

With a sigh, the young man turned to focus instead on the gun in his hands. Lacking a weapon of his own, Flynn had been issued one for the duration of the tests, it's design alien, yet strangely familiar. Time on the firing range had proved that his skill with guns were no less diminished with these new "mass effect" weapons, much to the Samurai's relief. Like the others, Flynn continued his own checks and preparations, halting only when the door to the room opens.

"Walker, you're up," barks out the proctor as he enters the room, an officer by the looks of him. Nodding in response, Flynn makes a quick double check of his assigned assault rifle before standing up and following the mercenary outside.

Time to go.

***
A small break awaited the four after they completed their solo combat tests, providing a much needed reprieve. Short introductions were exchanged between the four, the tone somber and plain. As talk lapsed into an awkward silence, Flynn sighed mentally. Why did things always seem to fall onto him? Even his fellow prentices, despite his previous status as a simple Casualry, had followed his lead in their expeditions into Tokyo.

"We're going to need to work as a team," Flynn states obviously. "If any of you feel comfortable taking the role of the lead here, go ahead and speak up." There's a pause, before the Samurai continues. "We're all no simple conscripts, given how far we've gotten. It may be different, fighting alongside strangers, but I believe that is something we can all do. Tell us what your strengths are, trust each other to cover your back, and we'll get through this."
Plan: Complete solo combat test

Assets
Infantry Combat: Professional
Tactics: Professional
SMT Magic: Expert
DEMONICA
Gauntlet COMP

Method of Invocation
Mobility will be key here, as Flynn is alone against a number of enemies. Allowing himself to be flanked will certainly end the test in failure. According to Burroughs, electrical spells could easily pass a tech power, giving Flynn an extra oomph of power if his rifle proves insufficient. Lacking allies or support, the Samurai will have to rely on cover and speed to take down his opponents.

Plan: Complete team combat test

Assets
Infantry Combat: Professional
Tactics: Professional
SMT Magic: Expert
Charisma: Professional
Persuasion: Professional
DEMONICA
Gauntlet COMP

Method of Invocation
Charisma and Persuasion to get all the recruits working together smoothly as a team. Flynn will try to provide a supporting role, covering his teammates with electrical spells and gunfire as needed while trying to maintain cohesion between the recruits. Getting everyone to work together as a unit is paramount.

My mind reeled with the sheer...difference...of this place. At least my motorcycle worked. And the library was still free, that's good. Even if it's staffed by, well...
Nitoh and Shunpei would love this planet, I'm sure. Rinko would just roll her eyes.
I made sure to be polite and thankful to the staff, but I spent as much time as I could getting basic information on this planet, Earth (if it exists here), and maybe searching the Space Internet for local jobs.
Because money would clearly be needed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arina has been nice. But...there's something in the back of my mind that keeps getting twigged. Gut instinct, you might call it.

"Hm. Well, I'm interested in work, sure. But do you think you could tell me a bit more about it? I just like to know these things for sure, you see?Go in with both eyes open. I'm sure you know what I mean; you seem like a smart person, Arina."

Flattery to smooth the rough edges. I did not want to sign a contract without reading it.

So, this was the big city. Kenshin stared. Kyoto had been nothing like this. Was this Tokyo? No... the Empire would have never allowed such large nonhuman populations on any native human world, and especially not on any of the Yamato worlds. Then, had he wandered out of the Yamato systems?

He had certainly never meant to wander that far.

Kenshin checked his belongings. Everything was still there, includes his saber. As he pulled it out, he stared at it resting in his hands. Once, a saber like it had slain many for the sake of the 'people'. But nothing had changed. The Empire had turned out be just as bad as the Shogunate, and the Imperial governors just as oppressive as the damiyos of old. A lone man with a blade could change nothing, but people from living to dead.

Enough. He shook himself out of his recollections. There was nothing to be done in memories. Better to move on with the day. Kenshin drew a linke to the force - ever changing shifting magnificent- and leapt. He rolled with his knees as he hit the ground and came out of his tumble with a single smooth motion.

Walking casually out of the alleyway that he landed in, Kenshin pulled his rice hat lower of his head and his cloak closer around him. He found on of the four eyed aliens secluded from the others, out of sight, and surreptitiously approached him. Twitching his finger discretely, he pressed down upon the alien's mind with the power of the force. "Hello. This one is a traveler from the rimward colonies. Would you happen to know where this one has landed?" Kenshin smiled goofily, radiating the most ridiculously non-threatening aura.

It was time to play the role of the idiot rurouni.

Force: Stealth (Professional)

Make sure to avoid detection. See if there's any jobs that can be used to gain resources, either momentary or physical in nature, anything will do. Things that require bladework or physical labor are easy. Even though though the world cannot be changed with blades, they can still earn a day's pay. And as always, remember to stay off the radar. The government may not be so happy to have a hikitori wandering around their planet, especially if they heard what happened on the fields of Toba-Fushimi.

ASSETS INVOKED:
+1 Diplomacy: Trainee

(6 + 5 -> 11)

That one was easy. You get a lot of information on vorcha biology from the militia - not tougher than humans, not very intelligent, but fairly cunning - they've been able to avoid attempts at tracking them down, after all. You get a few recordings of their attacks - their tactics are basic, but fairly well executed and effective.

Weapons-wise, they're using standard M-8 Avenger assault rifles and M-100 Grenade Launchers. The former is a significantly larger problem - it fires 2mm flechettes at ludicrous speed, at something like 900 round per minute. You can dodge them with precog, but blocking with the saber will be rather… suboptimal. The M-100 is not that much of a problem - the projectiles are fast, but not fast enough to not dodge… or grab with telekinesis and send them back.

The militia hands you maps, with attack, spotting, old camp locations all marked. You have a few ideas on where to start the search.

The list of looted equipment… isn't all that impressive. Food, some valuables, a ground cargo truck, the palladium from that truck, fuel cells, fertilizer… anything valuable or vaguely useful. No unusual behaviours, as far as anyone's noticed.

While the militia doesn't seem to be particularly inclined towards giving you gear just because you took the job, a few mind tricks and some diplomacy convince them to give you a standard omni-tool (basic sensor system, communications and nano-fabricator), a kinetic barrier harness, some food rations and medi-gel.

New Assets:
Omni-Tool (Civilian, Standard)
Kinetic Barrier Harness
Food Rations
Medi-Gel

General Action: Look for someone willing to ferry me to Elysium.

ASSETS INVOKED:

This doesn't go as well as you'd like. The local shuttle pilots generally make short in-system hops to the handful of stations present or a freighter in orbit. Sometimes to a colony in a neighbouring system. Elysium, while in range, is quite a bit farther than that and a flight there is, conversly, more expensive. It'll cost you 5,000c. Going by freighter would cost a fifth or even a tenth of that.

It takes two days of tracking, but with the Force guiding you, there could be only one outcome.

You have them.

They're camped out in a shallow and narrow gorge, well hidden from any aerial recon by camo netting. You count sixteen, total. Eleven armed with Avenger rifles and the rest with grenade launchers. They're keeping their weapons close, but they're clearly not expecting an attack, most of them being busy eating or resting. There are five sentries, two at the bottom of the gorge, at opposite sides of the camp and three hidden up top, near the edges. The latter seem to have a good line of sight on the bottom and the surrounding area, but they haven't spotted you.

Your new boss is skeptical, but decides to give you a chance and put you in one of the engineering exosuit for a try-out… and pointedly states that this better not be a waste of time.

It isn't.

The suit is different, and takes a bit to get used to, but with your knowledge and experience in mecha piloting, you're moving around in it like a pro within minutes. The boss is suitably impressed and soon enough, you're off to the reclamation site. Like with the suit, the shipwreck is different from anything you've seen, but there's only so many ways you can build something like that, and it doesn't take you long to figure it out with your knowledge of engineering, and pick up some things on how starships are made.

After a few days, you're doing great. Better or as well as the other exosuit operators - most of them clearly aren't as well trained as you or don't have an equivalent education. And aren't Asuka Goddamn Sohryu, of course. The boss gives you a few flunkies, including two other suits, to push around. They're not great, but are competent, and you make good use of them, putting your work crew ahead of the others in quotas. It gets to the point where when your teams walks through the hallways other operators and workers give you envious and jealous looks.

The four stop cold, seemingly only now noticing that you're kitted out in full armour. All the courage and will to fight disappears almost instantly.

"Uh, Kril, I, uh, think the guy's a merc." one of the humans says.

The turian gives you what you think is an angry look - it's hard to tell, with a completely expressionless face.

"The quarian's a thief, he stole our chits." he finally says. You're guessing he's the leader "We were just trying to take them back, teach him not to steal. Hey, you know what quarians are like?"

Instantly, the quarian cries out in protest "Bullshit! I earn more in a week than you scrape together in a month, bosh'tet, why would I steal from you!?" he looks to you, talking frantically "Listen, I lost my way, ended up in the wrong part of town and they tried to kill me, help me out, and I can repay you, I promise."

The quarian's suit looks pretty well-maintained, not like it belongs to someone who'd steal from random people on the street. The four harassing him don't look like they're up for a fight with you - one word, and they'll split, by the looks of it.

With neither of the two brothers or the asari stepping up to command, you naturally slip into the leader role. Both of the turians have combat experience from their service in the Hierarchy military, one as a regular soldier, the other as a combat engineer. The asari also has combat experience, though no formal training. She makes up for it with decent biotics, however.

You go through a few combat scenarios. Your knowledge of tactics and charism brings the team together into an effective unit and while the scenarios aren't exactly a breeze, you aren't in a real danger of losing, at any point.

After the end of the fifth scenario, the loudspeakers crackle to life.

"Nice job, team, that was a helluva display! However, the boss wants to see you what's the best you got - we have a second training area, proceed there."

The new training area is a warehouse, just like the last one. This one's a fair bit more cluttered, with old junk and empty containers littering every corner and turning it into a multi-layered labyrinth.

"Alright, you're going to face a bigger challenge - the mechs we're putting you up against here are directed by actual people, not just combat algorithms. we're throwing in some heavies and flying drones for good measure. Show us what you can do!"

The moment he finishes, half a dozen bots emerge from the maze. You leap to cover, as they open fire. Two, larger, hulking shapes march out from between the junk, looking like some kind of engineering suit repurposed for combat. They stomp towards you, bringing their weapons to bear, preparing to suppress you. You see glimpses of fliers, flitting between containers and broken machinery, moving to flank. There's some cover around you, but not enough to save you. You need to move, now.

MISSION: Killing Vorcha raiders. The Fight.

Force: TK Expert
Force: Enhancement Professional
Force: Lightsaber Combat Professional
Weapon Handling: Pistol Trained
Force: Esoteric - Precognition Trained
Force: Esoteric - Lightning Trained
Force: Mind Professional

[OOC: I do not think that making a description of the fight would be the correct avenue, so I'll put here only the plan and then write the rest after the rolls and results are known]

PLAN: Wait until the check in, then take out the sentries (starting with the two at the bottom) quietly using TK (Squish the brain, snap the neck or simply suffocate them; basically a silent and bloodless method), also use TK to avoid the bodies hitting the ground. Mind will also be used to lure out/distract the sentries as needed. Weapons will be of course looted.

Once we are done with the upper sentries, I will use TK to manipulate the looted guns to open fire on the camp below. I will naturally NOT be in the same area where the guns are (possibly on a flanking position). If I can kill them all by moving the guns around, I will do that. If they try to run away (depending on numbers) I will either try to thin them out first with the looted guns, and then hunt them down; if the are already in sufficiently low numbers I will go straight to hunting them down.

If I can't kill them all by moving around the looted guns, I will try first to push and/or mind trick anyone I can out of cover and then go down there to take care of it personally.

Flynn Walker
Complex Action (Continued): Information Gathering

Taking a long look at both the four and the quarian, it's all Flynn can do to not sigh in frustration. All this, over a theft?

"Do you have any evidence, beyond the fact he is a quarian?" questioned Flynn even as he shook his head. "In any case, I cannot condone violence as a solution. I'm sorry, but I have to ask that you and your friends leave." The implied violence that would occur if they refused was obvious, and Flynn watches steadily until the four make their retreat.

With just the quarian remaining, the Samurai turns to him, flipping open his visor as to present a less intimidating view. "I know this is going to sound insulting, but you weren't responsible for the theft, correct?" Flynn questions apologetically, even as he watches the alien closely. "In any case, you should be more careful."

============

Complex Action (Continued): Job Hunting

As Flynn proceeds to complete each test, he can feel the familiar rush of adrenaline, and a smile is on his face beneath his helmet the whole time. It had been far too long since he had last fought, his time recently all spent on studying and thinking. The relatively straightforwardness of simple battle was positively invigorating in comparison. The solo test had been fairly easy, and the team test vaguely reminiscent of battles with his demon allies, everyone working smoothly as a unit. Now though, apparently their potential employer wanted to see just how far they could push them.

"IGNORE THE GIANTS!" Flynn immediately barks out, as he turns to the fliers. "BREAK THROUGH THE ENEMY AND KEEP MOVING!"

Outnumbered and with limited cover, the solution was clear. Stay mobile and find better cover. The slower and lumbering heavy mechs needed time to bring their weapons to bear, so a sudden blitz before they had that opportunity was integral to surviving. And even as the team charged forth, that same smile remained on his face. Game time.

Taking advantage of the electric nature of his spells, Flynn will try to destroy as many of the flying drones as he can while the Engineer supports with Overload and his Combat Drone. The main goal is to keep the fliers distracted while the two follow the Soldier and Mercenary clearing the path ahead.

Turian Soldier, Asari Mercenary

Method of Invocation
The Mercenary will attempt to Stasis as many of the Training Mechs as she can, and then follow up with the Soldier in cutting down whoever remains standing. Again, speed is key here, moving fast enough to avoid the heavy mech's line of fire while taking down and opening a path past the Training Mechs as fast as possible.

You find an abundance of job offers. Most of them you ignore due to lack of qualification, not being desperate enough, or the offers being really shady. There's a few interesting items, though: some delivery company looking for drivers, security work, a merc company recruiting, someone looking for a stunt motorcycle driver for a movie, a starship looking for some extra crew (job training on site)

"Eh, it's just some courier work. Get stuff from A to B, get the money and all done, don't even have to sign a contract for it. Lotsa people don't like using the big delivery companies, I mean, have you seen the rates? They're crazy! Like, you should have seen my face when I first saw those. It's just package delivery! How much can you charge for that?"

She momentarily pauses for breath.

"But yeah, delivery. Perfectly legal. And oh, they might have some security work, but that's kinda boring. Trust me, I tried it's just a lot of sitting around or walking around and doing nothing and the schedule is a hundred per cent awful. Delivery work is way better and hey we might be working together and that would be cool and I'm sure we'd have lots of fun together. Delivering stuff. Which is legal. Not many illegal things on Illium. Did you know even Red Sand is legal here? Though, uh, these people are kinda irritable. I swear, you'd think people would grow a thicker skin on Illium, but nope! Say a joke and they get all annoyed and stuff. Goddess, it's annoying."

This world is called Khar'shan. Populated by some ten billion people, almost all of them batarians, the four-eyed humanoids. While divided into competing nation-states, it's also the capital of a major power, the Batarian Hegemony. It doesn't sound like a particularly nice state - isolationist, totalitarian, militaristic. Slavery is apparently legal, though regulated. The people you talked to didn't paint a pretty picture. Doesn't seem like there's any major conflicts going on, at least.

You also get your hands on a map of the galaxy, along with some encyclopaedic information on other first and second rate powers. It's pretty clear this is not your home galaxy.

Food, water and shelter aren't as easy. For shelter, there are a few abandoned houses, here and there. Almost certainly in a state of severe disrepair, so you'd have to restore it, otherwise it might just collapse on top of you. The apartment buildings are an alternative, and might even have running water, but they'll cost you money. For water, there's a lot of rain collectors - you might set one up, if you find a house. Alternatively, you can buy it, or find an apartment which has running water. Food is aplenty, with a lot of stands in the streets, but again, money. Alternatively, you could hunt something down - those pyjak things don't look too disgusting…

Getting off-planet may be difficult. The Hegemony is isolationist and on unfriendly terms with half the galaxy - Council Space, to be specific. The safe, economically well-off half. There's no ships going there. However, there are quite a few making passenger and cargo runs between Batarian Space and the Terminus Systems, which are a mixed bag of conflict zones and safe regions and anything in between. Unfortunately, tickets are costly, 1,000 Hegemony Credits at a minimum, from what you hear. If you're lucky and willing to help out on the ship.

Finally, there's work. For bladework, the local street gangs and the mob are always looking for enforcers. And so are the local factories looking for security. Ranged weapons are strictly regulate, both by the Hegemony and the local administration and the consequence are bad enough for both the criminals and security to hide their stashes. As such, people proficient in melee combat are sought after. Physical labour is the main source of employment in the slum - the nearby factories pay enough to cover food and water, if barely. There's some construction work going on, both by companies and local communities, though it doesn't pay well, either.

You wake up to perhaps the most terrifying thing of all.

A little icon at the corner of your vision blinking helpfully and informing you that there is no signal.

You are cut off from the web.

A second later, scanning for anything, anything at all, you see that your private network still exists. The little thing the three of you set up, just to be sure, with encryption keys conjured up by Aneta and handed over physically. It is still there. You are connected.

But the web is still gone. And with it, all your external data - memories packed away in harddrives and cloud servers around the world - is denied you.

Slowly you huddle together to get your bearings. You are sitting by a plaza, of some sort, late in the evening, or perhaps in the middle of the night.

And not far away you can see a gleaming city on a hill.

It is breathtakingly beautiful.

You almost forget to wonder where the rot is.

Stage One is a success. You waste no time from the moment the sentries report int and move as quickly as you can without being detected. You rush the first sentry, lunging out of the darkness and killing him before he can so much as scream. Then, you circle around the camp, and quickly eliminate the second one.

That done, you still have twenty more minutes. You climb the gorge's walls and emerge at the top. The three remaining sentries fall quickly and quietly, leaving you with ten minutes to spare.

Wasting no time, you set the looted guns into position. They're unlikely to be precise enough to be of much use, aside from causing panic, but that should be enough.

The guns in place, you prepare to move…

Vorcha scatter in panic, making for their weapons, stumbling over equipment and each other. One goes down to a lucky hit, but it's pretty obvious the guns will be ineffectual at actually killing them, and so, you fire your Ripper as you move into saber range. Two more go down and you're in the fray, cutting them down.

Four more go down, accounting for over half their number before they manage to pull themselves together. They retreat to the edge of the camp, and lay down suppressive fire, forcing you to back away, momentarily.

Their respite doesn't last long, as you turn your force powers on them, hitting them with a burst of lightning, supported by a few mind tricks. This, finally, breaks their resolve and they scatter and flee. The battle ends, right there, as you pick them off, one by one, with precise shots from the Ripper.

Whoever programmed them, though, knew what they were doing. When an electric discharge hits a drone, the others move in and unleash a quick barrage, letting it recover. They move around fast, evading fire and making full use of their numerical superiority and mobility advantage. On the other hand, their light weapons fail to make an impression on either of you, and they're unable to push you back.

The two sides end up in a deadlock, with no casualties. However, the drones are fully committed to combat and unable to engage the other two.

The attack opens with the asari merc unleashing the full power of her biotics, locking down no less than three mechs in short succession. The action visibly strains her, but she just powers through the exhaustion and is immediately on the turian's side as the two tear into the remaining mechs.

Whoever is running the battle is clearly paying attention to the mechs, but this helps the remaining three none, as the two tear into them with gunfire and biotics at close range. The three mechs go down after a quick but brutal exchange, one losing its chest to a shotgun at point blank, another taking a submachine gun burst and the final lifted into the air and finished off by a burst of combined gunfire.

The two rush into cover, followed by you and the engineer, still exchanging fire with the drones, just as the heavies move into firing position. Their rifles spit fire, but it's all completely ineffectual, as your team is now in cover of the labyrinth of junk.

I still lack one of these omnitools, though. That needs to be fixed, pronto.

I smile at Arina.

"I think it would be enjoyable working with you, yes. Tell you what. This arrangement sounds pretty laid-back, sort of a case-by-case basis, yeah? Could I maybe do some delivery work on the side while holding down something else? Security work might be boring but it seems like it would pay my bills pretty well. Unless your friends could set me up with both security work and deliveries on the side? Obviously I'd want to read all contracts and boring stuff before hand just to be sure. You know how that stuff is."

Disarming smile.

"So I suppose I am interested, yes. When should we have a meeting with the managers?"

"Uh, Mira? Since when do you have a Landmate?"

Two women in their early to mid thirties stood before a bipedal warmachine equipped with an impressive variety of weapons, from a 30mm autocannon to anti-tank missiles. The one who had just spoken was of somewhat average height and a proud owner of blonde, waist-long hair. Dressed in denim trousers, and a black, hooded jacket, she seemed unbothered by the night's chill.

"Aneta, I don't have a Landmate."

The other woman was a tall, wiry brunette. Dressed in loose trousers and a gray sweater, the cold didn't seem to bother her either. It wouldn't, no matter her clothing - the trained eye would note that the woman was a full-body cyborg.

"Hey, I checked out those crates!" a third voice called from further down the plaza the small group was on, as another woman approached. She was of average height, had short, blue hair and wore clothing more suited for visiting a cafe, rather than walking around during a rather chilly night.

Mira - actually Mirosława - turned to her. "What'd you find, Monika?"

"An assault rifle and a pistol - I think they're Seburo C30 and CX - a pile of HV Ammo and a thermoptic camo cloak. Yours, Mira?"

The woman merely shook her head. "Most of it, no. I had a Seburo CX, and that's it."

"We get transported to some weird place, a giant mech pops up out of nowhere, along with a crate of guns and ammo. You sure it's not a VR?"

"Ah, definitely not VR." Aneta said, pulling her eyes away from the mech. "With a simulation this large, we'd really have noticed, by now - some graphics errors, physics going wonky or something."

"Aneta knows her stuff, Monika. If she says it isn't VR, then it isn't VR."

While Aneta suddenly took incredible interest in the plaza's cobblestone, Monika mussed up her hair. "Not VR, hmm. Well, then, I'm not saying it's aliens..."

She raised her hands, palms open, holding them to the front and sides of her face.

"...but it's aliens."

Aneta groaned, while Mira looked more than a bit confused. "Well, it might be, as far as we know, no?"

"It would explain the city..." Aneta said, somewhat hesitantly, looking towards the bright, shining towers, standing upon a distant hill. Each as large as the largest human arcology, climbing hundreds of meters into the sky, small lights flitting between them. Were they airplanes? Aneta had no idea, could be flying cars, as far as she knew.

The air felt slightly off, when she thought about it. Thinner. Different smell. And her weight felt slightly... off.

Maybe it really was aliens?

She looked at the mech, then at the weapon's crate.

...really weird aliens.

"Okay, girls, it's time we started moving." Mira began "Aneta, any plans?"

"Eh?"

Aneta jumped up, startled and suddenly noticing both Mirosława and Monika looking at her, expectantly.

"Um… well." she looked at Mira. then at Monika. Then at the mech. And finally at the cobblestones, as if they could provide her answers. They did not.

"Well, uh. I guess we should head for the city? Ah. I think we should start with some, uhm, recon. One of us will go ahead, as the 'face', the other other stay close under that camo cloak to cover her, while the third stays behind in the mechs as, uhm, support."

Standard light recon tactic. Send a small force ahead, with heavier units hanging back, ready to cover their retreat.

Mira bit her lip. "Does either of you know how to pilot a Landmate?" blank looks "Well… this means I'll have to stay behind..."

She didn't look happy at the prospect.

"I guess I'll be our public relations department, then!" Monika declared.

"And I'll be the stealth element..."

"Can you handle it?" Mira asked, concern evident in her expression.

"Y-yeah. I generally play a recon build in SFO. I, uh, have some experience."

"Okay… I suppose it's settled. Let's move."

A message popped up in the corner of Aneta's view. 'You have 1 new message.' Their VPN was still working, so it could be Mira or Monika. And Mira preferred cybercomm rather than text, so it had to be Monika.

TehReiClone: Ufufufu~

KomandorSharpe: …
TehReiClone: Oh my~
TehReiClone: Maybe I should be nicknaming you Yandere-chan, not Moeblob-chan. :3
KomandorSharpe: I will inflict a thousand death upon you

To this purpose, Agent Blue Eyes will proceed to reconnoitre Shining Beacon, disguised as a civilian. Agent Mirage Flame will follow, equipped with Shadow Cloak and a Seburo C-30 Assault Rifle to provide overwatch and immediate assistance.

Aneta Mirage Flame will follow behind, under the thermoptic cloak. Both should avoid dense crowds.

Mirosława Razor Thunder will stay behind and find a secluded spot to place the Landmate Avenging Titan in, using her experience as a Landmate pilot and the motivation of the burning wound in her soul, made by the destruction of her hopes and dreams for a better tomorrow.
