Story Debate...or some other version of it

Basically for really big story quests[?]. In particular like Ad Astra or even Rebuilding of Empires.

I'm not sure if 'quests' are the right term for them. I'd suppose they're more along the lines of very story-intensive RPGs.

I was under the impression what we called Story Debates tended to fall into the general umbrella of "play by post" games elsewhere.

It's just an old SB name for 'play by post' games. But you'd kind of have to make sure it didn't turn into a BROB type thing. I don't think this new site could handle that kind of traffic and intensive posting.

This website is actually more capable of handling that kind of traffic than Spacebattles currently is. Also the guy in charge of the technical side of things is actually available - Xon is a very reliable guy.

Elsewhere Squishy posted that the board could be upgraded to a max of 56 gigabytes of ram and 20 cores. Which would be enough for 50,000 users posting like BROBites without too much issue.

Based on the current set up we could sustain about five times the current level of usage. That's before upgrades, though given that a five fold increase is amazingly massive the board won't have to worry about that for a while.

We are currently running a single core, 512MB RAM VM instance with a 20GB SSD. 250 concurrent users averages about 15-25% CPU utilization, though figuring out how much actual production that is is pretty tricky.

We can scale this VM to a 20-core, 64GB VM instance if necessary.

They generally are much longer type of game; the one I'm in has been around for nearly a whole decade.

It had it's own subforum because it was just so goddamn extensive.

Yep, some of the older "story debates" I was in (before I got serve writers block and more paid work hours) had upwards of 10 pages per post. None of this 10 line "BROB" stuff. ^^;; :p

Just to be absolutely clear, do story debates refer specifically to play-by-post games and not high quality quests or council games?

The term Story debates was around on SB long, long before Quests were a thing. It was originally drummed up for what is more commonly known as play by post games elsewhere on the internet so it probably applies only to PBP games. If you want a cool sounding name for an epic quest, you've first got to make a quest last six to twelve years, then come up with a new name :D
