Yeah, the emphasis is definitely important.

Now I could see them pushing for us to become affiliated with them, but I'd personally like to just live and figure out how we're gonna exist as a Cute HexaSpoider for the next while.

E: Power testing is probably gonna be brought up. At the moment I'm indifferent to doing it, and there is a point to be made that figuring out a Master power is pretty dang difficult and a touchy subject for the PRT, given they won't know if it has permanent effects. So they may not attempt it.

[X] Explain what you know of your power.
-[X] Emphasize how Janette made a conscious choice between death and having you use your power on her. This seems somehow important.

I am with this write-in.

This sounds reasonable

Closing the vote here because I should've done it earlier but oh well.

You take a deep breath, then slowly let it out. "Okay, look," you say quickly, almost tripping over your own tongue, "my friend here took a flying piece of concrete to the back of her ankle, which looked like it severed a tendon or something. She couldn't walk, she was bleeding a lot, there was fighting far, far too close to us, and it felt like my power was trying to tell me it could help. So I told her what I knew about my power, and she consented to me using it on her."

"So, wait," the doctor interrupts. "This is the result of your power?"

"She's in full control of herself," you hurriedly interject. "And it's because of this that we were able to get away."

"Can you undo it?" Hailstorm asks rather intensely, and you see her hand clench into a fist.

You feel for Jeanette with your power, and what you find makes you sigh silently in relief. "Yes! Yes, I can." Turning to look at her, you ask, "Should I? Here, now?"

After a moment's thought she nods vigorously.

"Alright," you say, closing your eyes for a moment to find the seed within your friend. Grasping it with your mind, you activate it.

Your eyes open in time to see the lines form, then split, the petals peeling back from her chest to reveal her face. Her eyes open, then squeeze shut against the light. The petals continue until she can set her feet on the floor between her other feet, favoring the one with the bloodied shoe and pants leg. Then, the limbs and head of her monstrous for fold into her back, the petals sealing the hole behind them and leaving your wholly human friend, well, whole.

You and Alice rush to help her over to a nearby chair so she can keep her weight off of her injured foot, which you note with relief is resting at a much less nauseating angle than it had been. You'd like to assume that was your power at work.

A hand on your truncated shoulder gently pushes you, and, surprised, you back away a few steps. You see that the hand belongs to the doctor, who gestures at your friend's ankle and asks, "May I?" At Jeanette's hesitant nod, she kneels down to inspect the injury. "How badly does it hurt?"

"Um, it doesn't hurt nearly as badly as it did earlier, when I got hurt," Jeanette replies as the doctor gets up to put on some gloves.

"You're not allergic to latex, are you?" the doctor asks, to which Jeanette replies in the negative. Turning back to her with a small tray in hand, you finally take a look at the nametag clipped to her lab coat. Fairclough, it reads. She once again crouches down before your friend and sets the tray on the floor beside her.

Another hand on your shoulder, this time less gentle, turns you away from the proceedings. You reflexively bring up some tentacles to strike, only to force yourself to stop as you see that it's only Hailstorm. The expression on what you can see of her face doesn't look too happy, though.

"So, you turn people into monsters, then?" she asks in a low voice, one that makes you start to lean away without realizing it.

"Um, yeah, I guess you could say that," you reply hesitantly.

"I'm sure you know more about your power than you've told us."

"Well, ah." You pause, and her grip tightens. "So, I have to sting someone with my tentacles before I can change them."

"And?"

"And, uh, like I said, I don't control the people I change. Sample size of one, of course, but still."

The cape spends a few moments more staring intently at you, her hand gripping your shoulder hard enough that you imagine might hurt were it not for your chitin. When you don't say anything more, she makes a sort of 'tsk' noise and releases you, turning away. You take the opportunity to check on how Jeanette is doing.

You find her holding the leg of her jeans out of the doctor's way as she snips the bloodstained sock off of your friend with a pair of scissors. You see her bloodied shoe set to the side. Soon, the sock is off and Dr. Fairclough starts swabbing the drying blood away from the site of the injury. Jeanette occasionally lets out small sounds of discomfort as she works, which you choose to take as a good sign, since they're not moans of agony.

When the blood is finally cleared away, you feel relief at the sight of unbroken, if pink and scarred, flesh. The doctor murmurs, "That's interesting…"

"What is?" Hailstorm asked from where she is leaning against a wall.

"Oh, well. The wound looks like it's weeks old, though the blood was relatively fresh. You say you think her Achilles tendon got cut?" She looks at you to make it clear who she's addressing.

"Yeah, um. Well, I'm not exactly a medical expert, but her foot was at a pretty weird angle."

"So it reconnected the tendon, then? Interesting. It's not just simple accelerated healing, then. Still, it doesn't seem fully healed just yet, so try not to put much weight on it for the next while, okay?"

"Okay," Jeanette replies, glancing at you for a moment, then away.

"Now," Dr. Fairclough continues, "for the sake of completeness, we might as well have a look under that cast of yours." She rises, puts everything away, and helps your friend across the room to a door. You start to follow after them but hesitate long enough for the door to close behind them. Out of the corner of your eye, you see that Alice has stayed as well.

You hear a faint buzz, and you turn to see Hailstorm pull out a device of some sort and look at it. For the first time, you see an expression other than a grimace tug at her lips as she straightens. She brings the device to her ear. "Ma'am?" As quickly as it appears, her abortive attempt at a smile fades. "Very well, Ma'am." She holds the device out to you as she pushes off the wall to approach you.

You stretch out a couple tentacles and snag it, making her pause mid-stride as you bring it to your ear. "Yes?"

"Hello." A woman's voice fills your ear, slightly deeper than Hailstorm's, but smoother. "I am Sentinel, leader of this city's Protectorate. Forgive me for not meeting you in person. Might I know your name?"

"Charlotte," you say uncertainly after a moment's pause, still unused to the name Alice gave you… Goddess, was only this morning?

"No cape name?" You shake your head, but before you can open your mouth to reply aloud, she's speaking once more. "I see. Have you been in our fine city long?"

"I, I don't know." Your eyes squeeze shut as you are reminded of your loss. "I don't remember anything before this morning."

"Oh. I'm sorry."

"No, it's… It's fine," you lie.

A moment of silence passes. "If you're certain." You feel a bit of relief at her dropping the subject. "Now, I'm sure you have a number of questions you'd like answered. I have a few minutes that can be used to answer them."

.o.o.o.

What will you ask? (up to five questions because seriously, she doesn't have all the time in the world for you)
